But from the start I liked how it made me feel, and I wanted to get more.”</p>

<p>He lost a lot of weight which fans noticed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I was out of control and very unhealthy. I returned to my original birth weight,” he added jokingly when asked about his body weight at the time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>That year, Perry admitted himself to rehab. According to People magazine, he spent 28 days in Hazelden rehab center in Minnesota, but the sobriety didn’t last long post his return home. “I was able to stay sober for a brief period. But I didn’t really get it,” he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the time, Friends producer Marta Kauffman was quoted saying, “it was terrifying, watching someone you care about in so much pain."”</p>

<p>Something struck Matthew and he knew not all was well so he called his parents for help. The substance abuse was getting the better of him as he was in the fear of losing his life. “There’s a moment of clarity where you have to prioritize your life. I listened to it,” he had said.</p>

<p>Matthew was checked into rehab. While filming for Friends, he was placed at an undisclosed rehab center where he spent two and a half months in treatment. From then his journey to sobriety started. In 2011, he checked himself into rehab to “focus” on his sobriety.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Two years later, he set out to help others recover.</p>

<p>He even went ahead with helping others and turned his Malibu, California home into The Perry House, a sober-living center for men. “When I die, I’d like Friends to be listed behind helping people,” he said at the time.</p>

<p>By 2015, he closed the house for financial reasons with plans to reopen in a different location. It didn’t materialise for some reason.&nbsp;</p>

"At first we thought, shows will be delayed for a month or two at the most, and now it seems like it`s going to be far longer than that. We`re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer if the stars align and hopefully we can get back into production," Greenblatt told Variety.<br />

"We do think there`s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didn`t want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms," Variety quoted Greenblatt as saying. Greenblatt was addressing the earlier reports that stated that the reunion would be shot virtually with six cast members filming from their respective homes.<br />

He did not completely overrule the idea of a virtual reunion though if it got delayed for too long due to the current stay-at-home situation created due to the pandemic.<br />

The highly anticipated one-hour-long reunion special episode of the six 'Friends' cast members was earlier slated to be on HBO Max at its launch on May 27. "At first we thought, shows will be delayed for a month or two at the most, and now it seems like it`s going to be far longer than that. We`re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer if the stars align and hopefully we can get back into production," Greenblatt told Variety. "We do think there`s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didn`t want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms," Variety quoted Greenblatt as saying. Greenblatt was addressing the earlier reports that stated that the reunion would be shot virtually with six cast members filming from their respective homes. He did not completely overrule the idea of a virtual reunion though if it got delayed for too long due to the current stay-at-home situation created due to the pandemic. "But at the moment, we`re trying to look to the future and get this thing done in a more conventional way, and I think it`s worth waiting for," Greenblatt added. "We would have loved to have had it on (HBO Max on) Day One, but at the same time, if we can get it launched in the fall, I think it`ll be something that we can have the audience really looking forward to as well," he added. The shooting of the reunion special episode that comes almost 26 years after its launch was earlier scheduled for March this year but got pushed back to May owing to the production shutdown amid the coronavirus pandemic. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer were all scheduled to reunite for the unscripted reunion that would also feature the show's creators David Krane and Marta Kauffman. The special was set to film on Stage 24, the original 'Friends' soundstage on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank. The cast and crew were to speak to Ellen DeGeneres who would have hosted the episode.
