"We all know that Indian film and advertisement industries are ranked first in the world as far as the number of films produced per year is concerned. The annual turnover is pegged at USD 2.7 billion. Indian cinema is composed of various regional language film industries employing a large number of people. However, the Indian film industry is now facing a major issue with the foreign crew replacing their Indian counterparts. Many of these foreigners are working illegally in India in violation of visa norms," a union leader said.<br />

Why employing foreign crew should not be banned the way Pakistani actors and technicians are not allowed to work in the Indian film industry, he questioned.<br />
<br />
Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) chairman Ashok Dubey told PTI they don't permit the hiring of the foreign crew.<br />

"The hiring is done by producers. Unfortunately, our people are losing employment opportunities. Almost 90 per cent of foreigners working in the Indian film industry are working illegally without proper work permits," he alleged.<br />

He also claimed that producers and coordinators do not entertain discussions on this topic.<br />

"We had complained to Mumbai Police many times about this issue (foreigners working illegally) but they didn't take our complaint seriously and failed to act. I have faced four FIRs (First Information Reports) when I raised these issues for the betterment of our workers. At least three lakhs workers are members of the FWICE in various capacities. We fight for their rights, he said.<br />

However, the exact number of foreigners, and their countries of origin, working in Bollywood, Tollywood, and other regional film industries, is not known.<br />

BJP Chitrapat Union president Sandip Ghuge said foreigners working illegally in films and also on OTT (Over The Top) platforms is a big issue.<br />

"This is injustice for the Indian crew, including make-up artists and technicians. The majority of foreigners are working on a tourist visa and don't possess a work permit," he said.<br />

Ghuge said the Chitrapat Union had complained to the Foreigners Registration Office (FRRO) and Mumbai Police. He alleged the police didn't initiate action, mainly because many local officials are unaware of the law against illegal foreign artists, and technicians.<br />
<br />
"It seems FRRO is very reluctant to act. This should be stopped with the strict implementation of law and strong action should be initiated against the agents and coordinators who support this illegal activity," he demanded.<br />

<p>'All the Beauty and the Bloodshed', a documentary about U.S. photographer Nan Goldin and her fight against the wealthy Sackler family, won the top Golden Lion award at the&nbsp;Venice&nbsp;Film Festival on Saturday.</p>

<p>Made by investigative journalist Laura Poitras, the film interweaves the remarkable story of Goldin's life with her campaign to hold the Sacklers and their pharmaceutical firm accountable for the U.S. opioid crisis.</p>

<p>It is only the second time in the 79-year history of the film festival, often seen as a launch pad for Oscar hopefuls, that the main prize has gone to a documentary.</p>

<p>"All the Beauty and the Bloodshed" beat out a string of more high-profile rivals, including a quartet of movies by U.S. streaming giant Netflix and well-considered European dramas.</p>

<p>The documentary draws on many of Goldin's images from her acclaimed slide show, "The Ballad of Sexual Dependency", which documented New York subcultures from 1979-1986.</p>

<p>But Goldin says her career almost came to an end in 2014 when she got addicted to the OxyContin painkiller, made by the Sackler's Purdue Pharma, which was given after an operation.</p>

<p>Purdue Pharma allegedly downplayed the addiction risks of OxyContin, helping to fuel a healthcare crisis that has claimed more than 500,000 opioid overdose deaths over two decades. It filed for bankruptcy in 2019.</p>

<p>The Sacklers have denied wrongdoing but said in March that they "sincerely regret" that OxyContin "unexpectedly became part of an opioid crisis".</p>

<p>Goldin has fought a years-long battle to get museums to stop taking money from the family, saying they should not be allowed to buy respectability through "toxic philanthropy".</p>

<p>"I have known a lot of brave and courageous people in my life, but I have never met anyone like Nan, somebody who could decide to take on the billionaire Sackler family," director Poitras said as she collected the Golden Lion.</p>

<p>"She goes to the depths of her soul and shares things with us that most people don't share with the people they are closest to, let alone to a public like this."</p>

<p>Mufasa is back!&nbsp;On Friday, the makers of the super hit movie 'The Lion King'&nbsp;announced the official title and release year of the prequel film.&nbsp;<br />

During the global Disney fan event D23 Expo, 'Moonlight' director Barry Jenkins officially announced the prequel of the 2019 live-action film with the title, 'Mufasa: The Lion King.' The movie will hit the big screens in 2024.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A year after the release of the 'Lion King', which was based on the life of Mufasa's son Simba, the sequel was announced with Barry as the director.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The new film will tell the origin of the Lion King Mufasa - from a cub to growing up with his brother Scar and becoming a brave Lion King.<br />

The teaser was also premiered at the event. The footage narrated by Rafiki (John Kani), told the story of Mufasa, from his childhood,&nbsp;revealing that he was an&nbsp;orphan. Further, the teaser showed his journey to become the great king and later little Simba's father.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last week, the German weekly Der Spiegel published anonymous testimonies from members of the film crew, as well as children who starred in the film and claimed to have been exposed to violence on the film set.</p>

<p>Parents were also quoted on condition of anonymity as saying they were not properly informed about the film's subject matter.</p>

<p>"This film has been withdrawn," the Toronto International Film Festival wrote on its website without giving further details.</p>

<p>Production company Ulrich Seidl Filmproduktion declined to comment on the cancellation when contacted by AFP.</p>

<p>Seidl -- who won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival in 2001 for 'Dog Days'&nbsp;and in 2012 for 'Paradise: Faith'&nbsp;-- has rejected the allegations.</p>

<p>"I never pushed the children (or any of the other actors for that matter) to do things on camera that they did not wish to do," the 69-year-old said in a statement on his website after the publication of the article.</p>

<p>"No child was ever filmed naked or in a sexual situation, pose or context. Such scenes were never my intention and none were ever filmed. During shooting, we never crossed the line of ethical and moral boundaries."</p>
