Brazil on Wednesday approached the World Trade Organization (WTO) for relief against a hefty trade tariff imposed by President Donald Trump on more than a third of US-bound exports from the Latin American powerhouse. The 50-percent tariff on several Brazilian goods went into force Wednesday over what Trump has termed a "witch hunt" against his far-right ally Jair Bolsonaro, the former president on trial for plotting a coup. Sources in the government of incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told AFP that Brasilia had filed a request for consultations with the US mission to the WTO -- the first formal step in the trade body's dispute settlement process. Donald Trump's latest tariff salvo raised duties on Brazil from 10 percent to 50 percent for key exports, including coffee, beef, and sugar. Exempt were nearly 700 other exports, including civilian planes, orange juice and pulp, Brazil nuts, and some iron, steel, and aluminum products. Brazil's Vice President Geraldo Alckmin previously told journalists the new tariff would apply to about 36 percent of the country's exports to the United States, equal to trade of about $14.5 billion last year. Trump's Brazil tariff is among the highest imposed on US trading partners and was framed in openly political terms, sweeping aside centuries-old trade ties and a surplus Brasilia put at $284 million last year. 'Judge and jury' In an executive order last week, the Trump administration lashed out at Brazilian officials for "unjustified criminal charges" against Bolsonaro, on trial for allegedly plotting to wrest back power after losing the 2022 presidential election to Lula. Trump's order also charged that the Lula government's recent policies and actions threatened the US economy, national security, and foreign policy. US tensions with Brazil are not likely to dissipate soon, with a Brazilian judge on Monday placing Bolsonaro under house arrest pending the outcome of his trial for contravening a social media ban. The judge, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, presides over Bolsonaro's trial and was himself hit with financial sanctions this week as Washington claimed he had "taken it upon himself to be judge and jury in an unlawful witch hunt." Moraes has clashed repeatedly with the far-right in Brazil, and with tech titan Elon Musk over the spread of online misinformation. Bolsonaro risks decades in prison if found guilty on the coup charges that had allegedly also included discussions to assassinate Lula and other senior officials. The tariff hike on Brazilian goods came a day before a separate wave of higher duties on dozens of economies ranging from the European Union to Taiwan. Analysts at Pantheon Macroeconomics estimate the pending increases would boost the average effective tariff rate for US imports to nearly 20 percent. This marks the highest level since at least the 1930s, according to the Budget Lab at Yale University.

Brazil seeks WTO relief against Donald Trump tariffs: Report

A former US trade official said on Wednesday that President Donald Trump's announcement of additional tariffs will impact most of India's exports to the United States. Senior Vice President of the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) and former Deputy US Trade Representative Wendy Cutler warned that the India-US dispute is escalating and neither side can afford to be at odds with the other. "Regrettably, the US-India dispute is escalating, with the President now threatening an additional 25 per cent tariff. This will essentially cut off most Indian exports to the US," Cutler was quoted as saying by AFP. She said that China will likely benefit from the US-India trade dispute. "Beijing is most probably welcoming these developments and may take modest steps now to improve its relations with Delhi. It's time for US and Indian officials to try to work out their differences in private," Cutler said in a statement. Bringing the total tariffs on Indian exports to 50 per cent, Donald Trump today imposed an additional tariff of 25 per cent, citing New Delhi's continual purchase of Russian oil. India called the US move "unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable". Meanwhile, Dr Ranjeet Mehta, CEO and Secretary General of non-profit PHDCCI, told ANI that the tariff's impact on the Indian economy would be negligible. "The US has imposed an additional 25% tariff on India. We are concerned about it and quite disappointed. However, its impact on the overall Indian economy is very negligible. Today, PHDCCI has released a report in which the 25% tariff imposed earlier was analysed, and our export to the US in 2024-25 is about 88 billion dollars. So if we look at the impact of this tariff, we have analysed an impact of about 1.87%, which is about 8.11 billion dollars. But if we look at the impact of this 25% on the overall economy, it is 0.19 per cent. The additional 25% may have an impact of about 0.38% on the overall economy," he said. He said that the Indian economy is resilient and robust. Dr Manoranjan Sharma, Chief Economist, Infomerics Ratings, said several sectors will be hit due to the tariffs. "This will severely hit sectors such as drugs and pharmaceuticals, textiles, electricals and electronics, gems and jewellery. So this is certainly a reason for us in India to be concerned, but no reason for us to be alarmed. It is essential to remember that India, unlike China, is largely a domestically driven economy...We have weathered many storms in the past, like the global financial crisis of October 2008 or even the COVID-19 pandemic. So we are confident this will cause some hits but will be able to weather this shock confidently," he added.

'This is Biden's war...': Trump reveals why he is funding Ukraine in war against Russia

Republican congressional representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, once among the strongest backers of Donald Trump, has lashed out at the US president over his plans to raise tariffs on India. She also slammed Trump for the continued US aid to Ukraine, in what is being seen as the latest sign of a growing rift between the MAGA firebrand and her Republican party. Greene's sharp rebuke followed Trump's announcement Monday (Aug 4) that he would impose "substantially" higher tariffs on India, accusing the long-time US ally of financing Moscow's war in Ukraine and profiteering from discounted Russian oil while ignoring the human toll of the conflict.
Trump claims India profiteering from Russia's war in Ukraine
In a post on X, Trump claimed, "India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits." He added that "They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!." The US president said he would raise tariffs in response. But Greene, long considered a staunch Trump ally, fired back online, urging him to focus instead on restricting immigration and ending support for Ukraine’s defence. "End Indian H1-B visas replacing American jobs instead and stop funding and sending weapons to the Obama/Biden/Neocon Ukraine Russia war," she wrote on X. Her message made reference to a longstanding issue repeatedly raised by the Republican base, who view the H1-B visa program as a threat to American workers. The program allows US companies to hire foreign talent — especially in the tech sector — for specialised jobs on a temporary basis.
Trump losing friends? After Musk, is Greene miffed by Trump?
Greene's latest criticism seems part of a broader pattern. In recent weeks, she has voiced mounting frustration with the direction of the Republican Party, distancing herself from GOP leadership. "I don’t know if the Republican Party is leaving me, or if I’m kind of not relating to the Republican Party as much anymore," she told the Daily Mail over the weekend. "The course that it’s on, I don’t want to have anything to do with it...I just don’t care anymore," she added.Greene has previously also warned Trump over his handling of key issues, including transparency on the Jeffrey Epstein case. In a post on X last month, she said, "Dangling bits of red meat no longer satisfies. They want the whole steak dinner and will accept nothing else".
Russia, Ukraine and Trump
Russia and Ukraine continue to be a political minefield for Trump, who has struggled to make good on his campaign promise to end the war "on day one" if elected. After months of failed diplomacy, Trump last week shortened a 50-day ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin, now demanding a ceasefire within 10 days or face new sanctions and tariffs. The deadline expires Friday. Meanwhile, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to travel to Moscow this week for high-level talks aimed at ending more than three years of war.

Trump claims India profiteering from Russia's war in Ukraine In a post on X, Trump claimed, "India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits." He added that "They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. "The course that it’s on, I don’t want to have anything to do with it...I just don’t care anymore," she added. Greene has previously also warned Trump over his handling of key issues, including transparency on the Jeffrey Epstein case. In a post on X last month, she said, "Dangling bits of red meat no longer satisfies. They want the whole steak dinner and will accept nothing else". Russia, Ukraine and Trump Russia and Ukraine continue to be a political minefield for Trump, who has struggled to make good on his campaign promise to end the war "on day one" if elected.

Donald Trump's impeachments have been deleted from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. As per reports, the 47th President of the United States, who happens to be the only POTUS to be impeached twice, has been removed from the "impeachment" exhibit, part of the wider exhibit called "The American Presidency". The display, which until July 2025 included references to both of Trump's impeachments, now states, "Only three presidents have seriously faced removal".
Trump's impeachment display
As per the Washington Post, the exhibit featuring Trump's impeachments has been up since September 2021. However, it has now been taken down, supposedly as part of a content review that the Smithsonian has "agreed to undertake following pressure from the White House to remove an art museum director".While, according to the report, the Smithsonian has said that "a future and updated exhibit will include all impeachments", all except a brief mention of the impeachments is made by the online companion. However, it doesn't provide much information about the cases.

United States' impeached presidents
In the US, four presidents have been impeached:

Andrew Johnson in 1868 for violating the Tenure of Office Act—was acquitted by the Senate later.

Richard Nixon, in 1974, faced impeachment proceedings for his role in the Watergate scandal. However, he resigned before the House could vote on the impeachment motion.

Bill Clinton in 1998 for the perjury and obstruction of justice related to his affair with Monica Lewinsky — was acquitted by the Senate later.

Donald Trump, as mentioned, has been impeached twice. In 2019, he was impeached for abuse of power and for alleged unlawful solicitation from Ukraine. In 2021, he was impeached over the Jan 6 US Capitol insurrection. Both times, he was acquitted by the Senate.

Trump rewriting history?
Since his return to the White House, Donald Trump has made multiple attempts to exert influence over American cultural institutions. Since January of this year, he has taken over the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, has made drastic changes at the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities and has imposed budget cuts on the National Park Service. In March, in an apparent bid to exert influence on the Smithsonian, he signed an executive order to eliminate what he called "anti-American ideology" across the Smithsonian museums and "restore the Smithsonian Institution to its rightful place as a symbol of inspiration and American greatness." He later, without any authority, tried to fire Kim Sajet, the director of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, accusing her of being "a highly partisan" person. To back his attempts, his White House later published a list of 17 instances, including the caption for the museum's presidential portrait for Trump, which mentioned the two impeachments and "incitement of insurrection" for Jan 6.

On July 30, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a sweeping 25% tariff on Indian exports, effective August 1, alongside threats of penalties for India’s continued purchase of Russian oil and military hardware. Justified by Trump as retaliation for India’s “far too high” tariffs and “strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary trade barriers,” this move severely disrupts an expanding trade partnership. More troubling is the proposed 100% secondary tariff on nations dealing in Russian oil—especially damaging for India, which sources around 35% of its crude from Russia. These measures risk entangling trade, energy security, and defence in a complex geopolitical crossfire. This opinion piece analyses the implications, the current trade dynamics, the potential sectoral impact, and India’s strategic responses.
India–U.S. Trade Snapshot: Who Needs Whom?
India is the U.S.'s ninth-largest trading partner, and the U.S. is India’s largest export destination. In 2024, bilateral trade (per Indian sources) stood at $136.7 billion—with India exporting $91.2 billion and importing $45.5 billion, yielding a $45.7 billion surplus for India. U.S. data shows bilateral goods trade at $129.2 billion, with exports to India at $41.8 billion and imports from India at $87.4 billion. This trade imbalance remains a sore point for Washington. While Trump has dubbed India the “tariff king,” the actual weighted average tariff on U.S. imports is under 5%, well within WTO limits. However, India does levy higher duties on specific items like whiskey, wines, and automobiles—similar to protectionist policies adopted by many other nations, including the U.S. India’s major exports to the U.S. in 2024 included electrical and electronic equipment ($14.4 billion), pharmaceuticals ($12.73 billion), and precious metals and stones ($11.88 billion). Conversely, U.S. exports to India comprised mineral fuels ($12.6 billion), precious stones ($5.31 billion), and machinery ($3.29 billion), along with soybeans ($2.2 billion).
Tariff Dynamics Before the Trump Shock
Before Trump’s announcement, U.S. tariffs on Indian goods averaged 2.5%, while Indian duties ranged from 10% to 80% depending on the sector—with high rates on agricultural products like apples and rice. Non-tariff barriers, especially in agriculture and pharmaceuticals, have long frustrated U.S. businesses. Trump has used tariffs as a pressure tool to counter the trade deficit under the guise of protecting U.S. industries. From India’s perspective, the U.S. administration has ignored the significant American advantage in India’s services and education sectors. Furthermore, India’s obligations to safeguard farmers’ livelihoods, sensitivities regarding dairy products, ensure energy security, and maintain affordability restrict its capacity to yield to U.S. expectations.
Fallout of 25% Tariff and Proposed Penalties
The new 25% tariff raises average duties on Indian goods to 27%, affecting key sectors such as auto parts, electronics, steel, and aluminium. Even iPhones assembled in India may see price hikes. Projections suggest a 10% to 50% drop in Indian exports in these sectors—amounting to annual losses of up to $3 billion. India, with 1.4 billion people and the world’s fourth-largest economy, aims to double trade with the U.S. to $500 billion by 2030. However, Trump’s tariffs threaten this goal, potentially trimming 0.3–0.5% off India’s projected 6.5% GDP growth for 2025 (as per HSBC). For U.S. consumers, these tariffs will likely spark inflation, especially in healthcare affordability. Tariff revenues—estimated to constitute 5% of federal income in 2025—are intended to offset Trump’s tax cuts and support domestic manufacturing. Yet economists, including J.P. Morgan, predict a U.S. GDP slowdown to 1.6% and supply chain disruptions, given India’s crucial role in supplying generics, pharmaceuticals, and electronics. Strategically, these tariffs risk alienating a key Indo-Pacific partner, undermining U.S. efforts to counter China. The punitive measures could push India closer to the Russia-China-India (RIC) alignment. India imported $40 billion of Russian oil in 2024 (forming 35% of India’s energy imports). A 100% secondary tariff on this trade would spike India’s import bill, increase inflation, strain fuel subsidies, and derail fiscal targets—especially problematic in an election year. In defence, India’s 36% dependency on Russian arms (down from 55% in 2019) makes it vulnerable to U.S. sanctions, particularly regarding high-value systems like the S-400. While compliance compromises strategic autonomy, non-compliance risks further penalties. Given the perceived unreliability of U.S. foreign policy, India may be inclined to take calculated risks.
A Web of Sticking Points
Agriculture is India’s red line. U.S. demands greater access to India’s protected agricultural market, particularly in dairy and grains. But with 45% of the population reliant on farming, India faces high political costs in liberalising this sector.India is unlikely to emulate U.S. allies like Japan or the EU in offering zero-tariff concessions, owing to security dependencies. Indian exports of auto parts, steel, aluminium, and electronics face the steepest tariffs. Less-affected sectors like textiles and gems may still lose market share to Vietnam and Bangladesh. In retaliation, India could target U.S. exports such as soybeans and aircraft—although this could impact its aviation sector if the U.K. cannot meet shortfalls.
Domestic Compulsions in India’s Trade Strategy: The Inflexible Realities
India’s trade policy is constrained by domestic politics. Any concessions on agriculture risk electoral backlash, especially in a pre-election year. MSMEs, which drive Indian exports, would be severely impacted by higher U.S. tariffs. Energy security remains paramount, and Russian oil provides affordable options not easily replaceable. Strategic autonomy underpins India’s foreign policy. Aligning too closely with either Washington or Moscow would compromise this balance. Given Trump’s recent policy unpredictability, abandoning a reliable partner like Russia seems unjustified.
India’s Balancing Act: Strategic Options
Trump’s tariff blitz leaves India with limited but critical choices. These include:Negotiate a Selective Trade Deal: India may pursue a limited deal, lowering tariffs on non-sensitive imports like machinery, liquor, hydrocarbons, motorbikes, and soybeans, while resisting U.S. demands on agriculture and dairy. It must stand firm on energy affordability for its vast poor population. From August 1, 2025, India should absorb the tariffs temporarily without rushing into a disadvantageous deal. It should protect MSMEs, prioritise growth, and wait out the 10-day deadline on secondary tariffs, monitoring U.S.–China negotiations. This appears to be the most prudent approach. Diversify Markets: India should expand exports to ASEAN, the EU, and Africa. Deepening ties with BRICS nations can also cushion the impact. Though these markets lack the scale of the U.S., diversification reduces dependency and future coercion risks. Aggressive pursuit of FTAs and strategic partnerships is essential. Strategic Reduction in Russian Trade: India can gradually diversify oil imports to the Middle East or the U.S., and broaden arms sourcing to France, Israel, and others. However, higher costs and strong Russia ties complicate this transition. India can redirect exports to ASEAN, the EU, and Africa, though with smaller profit margins. Self-Reliance: Strengthening the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign for defence and tech manufacturing is vital. Past disruptions, like COVID, have shown India’s capacity to localize supply chains—a trend that must accelerate.Controlled Retaliation: If unavoidable, India must retaliate proportionately with tariffs on high-profile U.S. goods like aircraft, oil, whiskey, and motorcycles. Such a move risks escalation but may be necessary to defend sovereignty and prevent future coercion. https://www.wionews.com/videos/trump-tariffs-us-president-slams-india-calls-economy-dead-criticizes-russia-ties-1754020784164/embed
BRICS: Can It Pose a United Front to the U.S.?
BRICS nations face similar U.S. tariffs—34% on China, 50% on Brazil. The concept of a coordinated BRICS response is attractive but lacks momentum. India-China rivalry and Russia’s economic constraints limit cohesion. While alternate payment systems (e.g., rupee-ruble trade) are being explored, intra-BRICS trade ($700 billion) pales in comparison to their $5 trillion trade with the U.S.However, if Trump follows through with 100% tariffs on BRICS and 500% on countries trading with Russia, he may inadvertently force BRICS closer. This could catalyze a realignment toward the RIC format.
Realistic Road Ahead: Strategic Patience Without Compromising National Interest
India’s optimal response blends diplomacy, economic recalibration, and strategic signalling. A selective trade deal protecting sensitive sectors while retaining competitiveness is key. Simultaneously, India must diversify exports, reduce reliance on Russian oil and arms incrementally, and boost domestic manufacturing.Subsidies for impacted exporters and tax relief for MSMEs can cushion the blow. By reinforcing its role as a democratic counterweight to China, India can retain geopolitical leverage while defending long-term interests.Trump’s tariff offensive poses serious challenges—but India possesses considerable leverage. Through smart negotiation, diversification, and strategic patience, India can weather the storm and emerge stronger, with a more resilient and self-reliant economic framework. Diplomacy, reform, and national resolve will be India’s guiding tools in navigating this turbulent phase.

Reacting to US President Donald Trump's threat that he would impose additional tariffs on China if it continued purchasing Russian oil, Beijing said on Wednesday that the country will firmly defend its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests. US President Donald Trump's trip to Scotland has been in the news for all the wrong reasons – people protesting against his visit and accusing the United Kingdom leaders of pandering to the Americans. Now, his Scotland visit is making headlines for the so-called "Golf Force One", an armour-plated buggy that was on full display at the Royal Turnberry, as Trump enjoys golf during his golf-centric trip to Scotland. The armoured golf buggy has come to light a year after Trump survived an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Just extra precaution, or has someone threatened to kill Trump?
Exactly 12 months after the 13 July 2024 assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, the site where Trump's iconic "fight, fight, fight" pictures were clicked, the Secret Service seems to be taking extra precautions on Trump's outing. Soon after, on 15 September 2024, while playing his favourite sport – golf – Trump was once again made the target of a gun when a gunman fled after firing a shot. The Secret Service, which came under fire for not protecting Trump properly last year, has pulled out all stops, according to reports. As per the Daily Mail, along with the armoured buggy, Trump's Golf games have been accompanied by a stream of army trucks, road checkpoints and snipers to protect the US president's life.
Trump's Golf Force One or The Beast
As per reports, the armoured buggy carries striking similarities to "The Beast", the official US presidential car that accompanies the POTUS on most journeys. While Trump opted to use a standard white golf cart, the black intimidating-looking buggy trailed him throughout the golf course. Security experts suggest that it carries all the tell-tale signs of being an armoured protection vehicle. Talking to the Telegraph, Gary Relf, director of Armoured Car Services, said that based on photos, "that is 100 per cent armoured...The windscreen is a giveaway, as are the side panels, doors, and the large panel at the rear above the load tray." Identifying the armoured vehicle as a modified Polaris Ranger XP, the expert said that it would have been designed to give the passengers maximum protection while remaining light enough not to damage the golf course. He noted that the vehicle appears to be equipped to be "defensive not offensive" and said that the tinted windows could hint at a robust transparent armour.

The United States' House Intelligence Committee had found that the country's intelligence community didn't have any direct information that Vladimir Putin wanted to help Donald Trump get elected as the president in 2016. She continued, "He continues to work aggressively to end the war in Russia and Ukraine. He completely obliterated Iran's nuclear sites. He has continued to hopefully negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, to end that conflict and release all of the hostages. We've seen many of the hostages released as a result of this president's efforts." Also read: 'India and Pakistan would have been a nuclear war': Trump credits himself again, this time in front of NATO Secy Gen Trump has reiterated that he has stopped the conflict between nuclear-armed nations India and Pakistan on multiple occasions. In his recent interaction with Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, he said, "We have been very successful in settling wars. You have India, Pakistan...India and Pakistan would have been a nuclear war within another week, the way that was going. That was going very badly. We did that through trade. I said, we're not going to talk to you about trade unless you get this thing settled. And they did, they are both great leaders." Leavitt also mentioned, “He (Trump) promised the American people many things and on top of that list was to defeat the Biden inflation crisis and to secure our border and our homeland, and he has delivered on these two. Inflation is at a 2.1 annual rate, and if you look at data from last month, zero illegal aliens were released into our country.”

Lauding the present government, Leavitt said, 'it's the most transparent administration in history.' Fans across the globe are disappointed as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be ending this year. CBS announced last week its decision to pull the plug on the popular show, which left fans and viewers heartbroken. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump seemed to celebrate the show’s cancellation and shared a message of happiness on Truth Social, fanning speculations that the show was cancelled due to political pressure.
Stephen Colbert slams Donald Trump
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump wrote, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.” The post came just after Colbert broke the news on air that The Late Show is ending this year.Colbert did not mince his words as he slammed the President on Monday night in the first episode of the show since the announcement. Colbert first read out Trump’s post, mocked him and said, “How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?” Colbert then appeared in a on-screen frame that read Eloquence Cam and said, “Go f*** yourself.” The f-bomb was bleeped out for the telecast, but the studio audience seemed to lap it up. There was a massive roar of cheer, followed by cheers of “Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!” The preview of the monologue was shared by The Late Show on Instagram, too, with the caption: “Sticks and stones may break our bones, but presidential turds can never hurt us.”

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert cancelled
The 11th season of The Late Show will be its final season, and the show will end in May 2026. Colbert announced the news on Thursday’s episode and added that he had only found out about the new development the previous day. The news was met with protest online, with many blaming Trump for the cancellation. Colbert has been known to be a vocal critic of Trump for years. CBS, however, maintained the show’s cancellation is “purely a financial decision,” due to a years-long dwindling of ratings of late-night TV in the US. The show’s cancellation comes after Colbert slammed CBS for paying Trump $16 million to settle a lawsuit over an interview. Colbert called the settlement a ‘big fat bribe’ on air, implying the payment was made to ease things for CBS’ parent company, Paramount Global’s merger with Skydance.

In the first episode since announcing the cancellation of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert slammed Donald Trump for celebrating the news. CBS has pulled the plug on Colbert's show which will be ending on May 2026.

Fans across the globe are disappointed as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be ending this year. Stephen Colbert slams Donald Trump In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump wrote, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.” The post came just after Colbert broke the news on air that The Late Show is ending this year. Colbert did not mince his words as he slammed the President on Monday night in the first episode of the show since the announcement.

United States President Donald Trump has slammed former president Barack Obama, accusing him of manufacturing a false story of 2016 election fraud. Trump was accused of using Russia to win the 2016 Presidential elections. In a post on Truth Social on Monday (July 21), Trump accused Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and other Democrats of participating in the false story and added that it was the “crime of the century.” Meanwhile, the White House also shared a post stating that Trump was hunted and now he is the hunter. This comes a day after Trump shared an AI-generated video of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arresting the former President in the Oval Office.

“Obama himself manufactured the Russia, Russia, Russia HOAX. Crooked Hillary, Sleepy Joe, and numerous others participated in this, THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY!. Irrefutable EVIDENCE. A major threat to our Country!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. Trump's remark comes after the Department of Justice received a criminal referral from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, as per multiple reports. The criminal referral alleges that the Obama administration engaged in a “treasonous conspiracy” to undermine Donald Trump’s 2016 election win. Gabbard's notice accused Obama and his top intelligence team — including former DNI James Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan, and FBI Director James Comey — of orchestrating a “treasonous conspiracy.” In a post on X, Gabbard said that the goal of the above-mentioned people was to "usurp President Trump and subvert the will of the American people." She added, "No matter how powerful, every person involved in this conspiracy must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The integrity of our democratic republic depends on it."

Trump's AI video about Obama
Trump had shared an AI video on Truth Social stating that "no one is above the law." The video begins with Obama saying, "especially the President is above the law". The clip then switches to an AI-generated video of Obama being handcuffed by two FBI agents in the same office he once occupied as the President. Trump can be seen sitting and smiling during the "arrest". The fake video ends with Obama standing inside jail, wearing the prison's orange jumpsuit.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday (July 21) said that Tehran cannot give up on its uranium enrichment program, which was severely damaged during the Israel-Iran war last month. The foreign minister, in an interview with Fox News, said that the damage to the nuclear facilities in Iran after US and Israeli strikes was serious and was being evaluated further. Responding to his comments, United States President Donald Trump said that he will do it again, if necessary. The US president went on to slam CNN for not believing Trump's statement that “Iran’s nuclear sites were obliterated.” Meanwhile, Araghchi informed that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was in "good health" and that Tehran was open to talks with Washington but that those will not be direct "for the time being."
What Araghchi said in Fox News interview?
While speaking to Fox News, Araghchi said the impact of the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites were “Serious” but added that Tehran won't give up enrichment. "Our facilities have been damaged – seriously damaged. The extent of which is now under evaluation by our atomic energy organisation," Araghchi said. "We cannot give up enrichment because it is an achievement of our own scientists. And now, more than that, it is a question of national pride. Our enrichment is so dear to us," Araghchi added.
How Trump reacted?
After Iran's foreign minister's statement on Fox News, US President Donald Trump defended his remarks about Iran’s nuclear sites, doubling down in a Truth Social post. He said that Iranian minister's remark validates the US strikes and warned that his administration would carry out more such strikes if necessary. "Of course they are, just like I said, and we will do it again, if necessary!" Trump wrote. The POTUS then slammed CNN and MSNBC. "Fake News CNN should immediately fire their phony 'reporter' and apologize to me and the great pilots who 'OBLITERATED' Iran’s nuclear sites," Trump added. He also labeled CNN and MSNBC as "major ratings losers," continuing his long-standing criticism of mainstream media outlets.

Iran-US nuclear talks and 12-day war
Prior to the war, Tehran and Washington held five rounds of nuclear talks mediated by Oman but could not agree on the extent to which Iran should be allowed to enrich uranium. Israel and Washington say Iran was close to enriching to levels that would allow it to quickly produce a nuclear weapon, while Tehran says its enrichment program is for civilian purposes only. US ally Israel attacked Iran on June 13 and the West Asian rivals then engaged in an air war for 12 days in which Washington also bombed Iran's nuclear facilities. A ceasefire was reached in late June. Iran is a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, while Israel is not. The UN nuclear watchdog says it has "no credible indication" of an active, coordinated weapons program in Iran. Tehran maintains its nuclear program is solely meant for civilian purposes.

US President Donald Trump has threatened NFL team Washington Commanders' football stadium deal over the moniker.
