US President Donald Trump may experience a surprise in his political journey as the mid-term election approaches and is scheduled for November 3. Voters across the country will decide whether the Republican alliance will retain control of Congress, or Democrats will return to the majority. Several reports suggest that the Democrats are favoured to take back control of the House of Representatives, and most likely the Senate. Turning to the Senate's seven-race cluster, the mid-term election races are expected to face high competition. With a three-seat majority and Vice President JD Vance holding the tie-breaking vote, Democrats are required to gain four seats to flip control. Ahead of weeks for Election Day, the fight for the Senate has now shifted to "a pure toss-up" for the first time since early June, according to Decision Desk HQ's forecast.
The Seven Seats That Actually Matter
Of the 35 seats on the ballot this November, the Cook Political Report currently rates seven as true toss-ups. Of those, two are held by Democrats, and five are held by Republicans, which include Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Texas. Every other race, however loudly contested, is effectively priced in; control of the chamber will be decided inside this narrow cluster. Few expected Alaska to be competitive, but betting markets and election forecasters now show Democrat Mary Peltola favoured over Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan, with DDHQ giving her a 61 per cent chance and prediction markets putting her even higher. Also read: ‘Not afraid of death,’ flydubai co-pilot tells probe team, confesses he wanted to crash jet
Iowa and Ohio: Open Seats, Tightening Polls
In Iowa, a late-September Fox News poll showed Democrat Josh Turek narrowly ahead of Republican Ashley Hinson 49-47, even as other pollsters showed the race essentially tied, tight enough that Sabato's Crystal Ball moved the state from "Leans Republican" to "Toss-up" in September, aligning it with Cook and Inside Elections.
Maine and Michigan: The Incumbent Problem and the Open-Seat Scramble
Maine presents a different kind of test. Republican Susan Collins has weathered nearly 30 years of challenges, but Democrats believe a blue-leaning state combined with an unpopular president finally gives them their opening, against an opponent whose progressive politics remain untested in Maine's purple-tinted electorate. Michigan, meanwhile, is an open-seat free-for-all, with Republicans rallying around former congressman Mike Rogers, who lost narrowly to now-Senator Elissa Slotkin in 2024.
Texas: The Race Nobody Saw Coming
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the cycle is Texas. Scandal-plagued Attorney General Ken Paxton's nomination transformed what should have been a safe Republican hold into the marquee toss-up of the cycle, with six of the most recent public polls showing Democrat James Talarico leading in a state Democrats haven't carried statewide since 1994.

US President Donald Trump has declared that the US government will henceforth refer to artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence”, using his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday (Sep 22) to reject calls for tighter international oversight of the rapidly advancing technology.Trump said the term “artificial intelligence” no longer adequately captured the technology’s capabilities and suggested that “Super Intelligence” was both a more accurate and better-sounding description. A NORAD F-16 intercepted a civilian aircraft that strayed into restricted airspace near Camp David on Saturday morning (Sep 19) while President Donald Trump was at the retreat. Trump returned to the White House that evening, a day ahead of schedule. The intercept took place over Thurmont, Maryland, at about 7:50 am, the First Air Force said. US President Donald Trump’s hair is again making headlines as he appeared with a different colour and style, days after he denied wearing a wig. The look drew attention on X, where users joked about the hair color and shape. Trump had previously clarified that he doesn't wear a wig. His latest hairstyle appears to be darker brunette hair and his familiar side-parting suddenly flipped to the opposite side. The sudden makeover was spotted on Friday, September 4. He was photographed as he arrived in New Jersey to spend the weekend at his Bedminster golf club. As he sported a new look, internet went into a frenzy. X users asked what was happening to his hair, with some saying he looked like he was “melting” and others comparing the colour to Rudy Giuliani or the style to Robert Redford. The reactions are social media commentary and do not establish that Trump wears a wig. One post asked, “what is the world is going on with Trump’s hair?”Another wrote, “Why does he look like he’s melting?” A third user commented, “Trump is obviously wearing a new wig.” Another wrote, “A new hair color doesn't change the fact that he looks like a clown.” Another wrote, “It looks like they’re trying for a sort of Robert Redford look.. ? That would fit with his delusional fantasy view of himself.”
Trump denies wearing a wig
During the September 2 dinner, Trump spoke about a 2024 campaign rally in Ohio for then-Senate candidate Bernie Moreno. He recalled strong winds at the event and used that experience to reject claims that he wears a wig. “I went up to the speaker, and it was blowing so hard,” Trump said. “I don’t wear a wig. But that night, they found out I did not wear a wig because if you did, it was not going to be on your head very long.”At a 2015 campaign rally, he said, “I don’t wear a toupee; it’s my hair, I swear,” before adding, “This is getting crazy,” while pulling on his hair.
Trump’s hair has been discussed for years
In 2018, Trump said at the Conservative Political Action Conference, “I try like hell to hide that bald spot, folks. I work hard at it.” His hair also drew attention during an August 5 speech in Las Vegas, when journalist Aaron Rupar wrote, “Is Trump rocking a wig, or what the hell is going on here?” Trump’s longtime doctor, Dr. Harold Bornstein, told The New York Times in 2017 that Trump took finasteride, used to treat male-pattern hair loss and an enlarged prostate. Mayo Clinic lists the same uses.

But that night, they found out I did not wear a wig because if you did, it was not going to be on your head very long.”At a 2015 campaign rally, he said, “I don’t wear a toupee; it’s my hair, I swear,” before adding, “This is getting crazy,” while pulling on his hair. Trump’s hair has been discussed for years In 2018, Trump said at the Conservative Political Action Conference, “I try like hell to hide that bald spot, folks.

Donald Trump’s new hairstyle and darker hair colour have sparked reactions on X, days after he denied wearing a wig. Trump recalled a windy 2024 Ohio rally to reject wig claims, while his hair has remained a subject of public and media attention for years.

US President Donald Trump planned to fly to Ireland next week with the Boeing luxury jet donated by the Qataris despite security concerns and incomplete upgrades, a senior administration official confirmed on Friday (September 5). Earlier, Trump announced that the plane would be taken out of service for roughly a month for new security upgrades. On Friday (September 4), Trump said that after his term ends, the plane would probably go to his presidential museum. A senior administration official claimed that the decision comes weeks after Trump suggested the plane would be grounded for nearly a month while it underwent unspecified security upgrades. Explaining further, a senior administration official said, “We don’t comment on specific upgrades or modifications to Air Force One. We maintain a consistent posture that ensures a safe, secure, and reliable capability for the President of the United States and routinely evolve the capability as required to maintain that posture.” Also read: UN votes to correct world map that visually shrank Africa for 450 years
Two custom-built Boeing aircraft
The jet was repurposed for presidential use earlier in Trump’s term, following years of delays to the two custom-built Boeing aircraft meant to eventually become the new Air Force One. While those planes yet to be ready have been designed from the basics, with elaborate missile-defence systems built in. The plane, costing $400m, a “palace in the sky,” has never been confirmed to have a match. Concerns about the plane's defence capabilities resurfaced after Trump's most recent trip abroad on it, to a NATO summit in Turkey this past July. It later came to light that Trump had actually been secretly transferred via a catering truck onto a different, older aircraft after officials became aware of a potential Iranian threat in Ankara, leaving the plane he'd originally boarded to serve as a decoy. That original flight, which may have been the actual target, carried Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, several senior aides, and the travelling press corps, none of whom were informed of the threat and who were instructed to keep their window shades drawn. The incident has since been featured in a new Netflix mini-documentary, sparking widespread criticism and outrage over accusations that Trump had been willing to treat his own staff and journalists as disposable to protect himself. Meanwhile, what security enhancements, if any, the jet has actually received since being grounded remains unclear to this day.

A secret security operation involving U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked questions over the safety and transparency of journalists travelling with the president.

According to a Washington Post report, journalists accompanying Trump from Turkey to Britain were allegedly kept unaware when the president was quietly moved from Air Force One to another aircraft.

Trump was reportedly transported using a catering truck, with the operation linked to a perceived security threat from Iran. The secret plane switch was first reported by The Washington Post and later confirmed by Trump.

Journalists travelling with the president said they noticed unusual activity around Air Force One, including a catering truck positioned unusually close to the aircraft. They also said they were instructed to keep their window blinds closed after takeoff without receiving a clear explanation.

Around a dozen journalists were reportedly travelling with Trump, with several expressing disappointment over not being informed about the security operation. Some questioned whether the White House adequately considered the safety of members of the presidential press pool.

The United States has launched its eighth consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran, targeting IRGC coastal surveillance systems, missile depots, air defense facilities, and military infrastructure. The strikes come after two American service members were killed in Jordan during an Iranian missile and drone attack. CENTCOM confirmed that the operation aimed to weaken Iran's military capabilities, while Iranian media reported attacks near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has responded by claiming strikes on US military bases in Kuwait, warning that further American attacks will be met with a "devastating response."

Experts have predicted that Donald Trump's H-1B visa crackdown will force US firms to shift critical work to India. Earlier this month, in a move to secure tech jobs for locals in the US, Trump imposed a hefty H-1B visa fee of $100,000. Experts have predicted that Donald Trump's H-1B visa crackdown will force US firms to shift critical work to India. Earlier this month, in a move to secure tech jobs for locals in the US, Trump imposed a hefty H-1B visa fee of $100,000. Trump's move will turbocharge the growth of global capability centres (GCCs) that handle operations from finance to research and development. Amid the pressure of the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence and the US administration's curbs on visas, GCCs in India have emerged as a resilient option for American companies. Rohan Lobo, partner and GCC industry leader at Deloitte India, told Reuters that these centres can serve as a ready in-house engine. For the shift of US companies, he said, plans are in place, especially in areas like financial services and tech, and particularly among firms with exposure to US federal contracts. By making the fee $100,000, the administration has made hiring local talent more tenable than importing talent from abroad. However, this strategy can also make the talent gap wider. On Monday, US senators reintroduced a bill to tighten rules on the H-1B and L-1 worker visa programmes, targeting what they called loopholes and abuse by major employers. If Trump's visa curbs are unchallenged in courts, US firms may be forced to shift high-end work tied to AI, product development, cybersecurity, and analytics to their GCCs in India. Ramkumar Ramamoorthy, a former managing director of Cognizant India, said that the move could result in what he described as "extreme offshoring". A head of the GCC said that either the roles will be shifted to India or they will have to rely on countries like Mexico, Colombia, and Canada. However, a lurking danger for these firms is that if the HIRE Act is passed, they may have to pay 25 per cent tax on outsourcing work. India's $283-billion IT industry is being strained by Trump's visa move. However, the demand for GCC services can cushion the blow.

Hollywood executives, meanwhile, are uncertain about the scope. Would the tariffs apply to streaming platforms, foreign-financed American films, or co-productions with international studios? The lack of clarity has left entertainment companies scrambling for answers. Part of wider protectionist agenda Trump has been gradually expanding tariffs beyond manufacturing into cultural and consumer industries. Alongside films, he also announced fresh levies on imported furniture, citing economic losses in states like North Carolina. The move continues his broader “America First” trade agenda, which has seen tariffs imposed on pharmaceuticals, heavy trucks, and household goods in recent weeks. Studios like Disney, Paramount, and Warner Bros often shoot abroad to reduce costs, and international markets, particularly China make up a significant share of their revenue. Restricting access to foreign productions could hinder growth at a time when studios are still recovering from the pandemic and adjusting to changing streaming dynamics. Despite skepticism, Trump doubled down in his post, stressing that the tariffs are meant to “level the playing field” and bring film production back to U.S. soil. “We want movies made in America again,” he said.

President Donald Trump said on Monday that he thinks US companies should not report their earnings quarterly and should do it every six months instead, proposing a change that would disrupt a longstanding practice and would require an approval from the nation’s securities regulator. “Subject to SEC Approval, Companies and Corporations should no longer be forced to “Report” on a quarterly basis (Quarterly Reporting!), but rather to Report on a “Six (6) Month Basis,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This will save money, and allow managers to focus on properly running their companies. Did you ever hear the statement that, “China has a 50 to 100 year view on management of a company, whereas we run our companies on a quarterly basis???” Not good!!!”China, in fact, does require quarterly reports, while in the UK and Europe, companies publish financial results every six months. The US shifted to the quarterly model in 1970.

Trump had asked for the change in the US during his first term as well. It is hard for companies and executives to share numbers every three months, and the practice is also criticised for leading to short-term thinking and planning. However, it is defended by some who say it provides higher transparency and is crucial for investors. In a policy research brief, the CFA Institute’s Research and Policy Center says that timely and accurate financial information is the lifeblood of financial markets. Quarterly reporting of financial information creates a more level playing field for access to financial information between insiders and outside investors and shareholders and ultimately promotes greater investor confidence and improved capital allocation, it added.

Trump has called for US companies to stop reporting quarterly results, adding that a shift to publishing figures twice a year will save them cash and allow executives to focus on their businesses and long-term growth and management.

It further lauded the defence secretary as ‘an officer in the United States Army National Guard. A veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. Recipient of the Bronze Star medal for valor. A warrior. A leader. And a patriot.’ Hegseth has received two Bronze Star medals during his service; not for valor, but for meritorious service. https://www.wionews.com/videos/survey-trump-s-intervention-weighs-on-fed-s-independence-wion-1757308972701/embed The video was posted after the US President Donald gave the Department of Defence a new title ‘ Department of War’. And just after that, his video was posted and was later removed. But the internet is unsparing and keeps a log of everything that happens. Department of War for a president, who is promoting peace, is quite a contrast as well.

What will Donald Trump do next? The answer is, reopen Arkham Asylum-like (Yes! The one Batman's arch foe Joker was locked up in) mental institutions and stuff people he believes have "serious mental illnesses" into them. On Monday (Sep 1), during an interview, the US president was asked if he was "open to the government reopening insane asylums for people with serious mental illness?". It claimed that the President is expected to die in August 2025 after a severe chest illness. According to the narrator of the clip footage, the footage comes from a long-forgotten episode that aired over 15 years ago but has since been removed from syndication and streaming platforms due to its disturbing similarities with real-life events. In the animated sequence, a character resembling Donald Trump—depicted with golden hair, an orange complexion, and a fiery temper—is shown walking alone through the White House halls. During a live national broadcast, the character suddenly clutches his chest and collapses, sparking panic among staff and the medical team. A medic is heard shouting, “This wasn’t just stress, this was a sign,” adding to the dramatic tension of the scene. The episode is said to span from the character’s fictional presidential victory in 2000 to a re-election storyline aired in 2015. While many online believe the scene eerily mirrors real events, there is no confirmed record of such an episode existing in The Simpsons' catalogue, reported The Times of India. Nevertheless, the clip has added to the conspiracy theories about the show's alleged ability to "predict the future." Read More | US flag at White House flown at half-mast amid 'Trump is dead' trend: Here's why https://www.wionews.com/videos/jd-vance-reiterates-trump-is-in-great-health-trump-s-frailing-health-causes-concerns-1756464270620/embed
Trump's health and Vance's ‘terrible tragedy' remark
Donald Trump's health has been the topic of discussion since he became the oldest president to take over the White House at the age of 78. Concerns about his health were raised after his swollen ankles were visible during numerous appearances. The White House, later, revealed that the US president is suffering from chronic venous insufficiency. Bruise on his right hand also made headlines, with the White House first issuing a bizarre explanation that he 'meets a lot of people and shakes hands with them' to saying that it may be because of ‘minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.’ The Trump administration has emphasized time and again that the president is in ‘excellent health.’ On Trump's heart health, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that he underwent an echocardiogram as part of the evaluation and his heart function was normal. Trump underwent his first annual medical test as the president of United States in April this year in which it was revealed that he is in “excellent cognitive and physical health.” Read More | What's behind Trump's left-hand bruise?
