<h2>Dharmendra won a talent contest</h2><p>It was 1958 when the 23-year-old Dharam Singh Deol travelled from Punjab to Mumbai (Bombay) with big dreams of becoming an actor.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He took part in Filmfare magazine’s first-ever nationally organised talent competition and even won. The victory promised him a film debut, but the project never even began. Talking about the turning point in his life, it was Ayee Milan Ki Bela (1964) alongside Rajendra Kumar and Saira Banu that gave him his first Filmfare nomination.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Dharmendra was loved in Haqeeqat (1964), and Kar Chale Hum Fida. With his loveable, mischievous, yet rugged charm as Veeru, Dharmendra made the role immortal in cinema history. While there were other superstars in that era, such as Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, and Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra's charisma, dialogue delivery, and effortless screen romance made him one of the most bankable stars of the 70s and 80s.</p><h2>An evergreen star</h2><p>Dharmendra has acted in over 300 films and has impressed fans in all kinds of roles, from romance to action thrillers. Besides launching his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol under Vijayta Films, it is said that Dharmendra also supported Amitabh Bachchan early in his career.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>He was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and has also worked in the upcoming film Ikkis alongside Agastya Nanda and Jaideep Ahlawat. The 89-year-old actor was taken to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on November 10, after reportedly complaining of breathlessness. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to reports, recently his health started deteriorating, and it was also suggested that the actor was put on ventilator support. However, after several rumours started circulating on social media, Sunny Deol’s team issued a statement saying, "Dharamji is still in the hospital. Doctors have not advised him to go home. His condition is improving. He is being monitored and is not on a ventilator."</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Dharmendra admitted to hospital</h2><p>The veteran actor was admitted to the hospital on Monday. While the reason for his admission has not been revealed, Sunny issued a statement requesting privacy. “Mr Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Further comments and updates will be shared as available. We request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery and respect the family’s right to privacy,” the statement read.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Meanwhile, a statement from his team assured that the actor was responding to the treatment. “He’s under observation, but there’s nothing to worry about,” assured his team.</p><p>Last week, Dharmendra’s visit to the hospital had sparked concern about his health. The team had later clarified that the actor had been admitted for a routine check-up. A day later, his wife, actress-politician Hema Malini, was asked about the actor’s health by the paps as she was spotted at the Mumbai airport. <p>A Delhi court has summoned veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra in a cheating case related to the ‘Garam Dharam Dhaba’ restaurant franchise. Dharmendra along with two others have been named in the case.</p>

<p>The summon was issued by Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Yashdeep Chahal of the Patiala House Court in Delhi on the basis of a formal complaint filed by Delhi businessman Sushil Kumar who alleged that he was lured into investing in the franchise on false promises of huge profits.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the summoning order passed on December 5, the judge said, "The evidence on record prima facie indicates that the accused persons induced the complainant in furtherance of their common intent and the ingredients of the offence of cheating are duly disclosed.”</p>

<p>"Accordingly, let the accused persons at serial number 1 (Dharam Singh Deol), 2 and 3 be summoned for the commission of offences under section 420, 120B read with section 34 IPC. Let the accused persons at serial no. 2 and 3 be also summoned for the offence of criminal intimidation under section 506 of IPC," the court ordered.</p>

<p>The matter has been listed for further hearing on February 20, 2025.</p>

<p>While the court has issued a summon, it has dismissed the need for registration of FIR or first information report.</p>

<p>It has taken cognisance of the complaint since the documents submitted pertain to Garam Dharam Dhaba and the letter of intent also bears the logo of the same restaurant.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>What is the Garam Dharam Dhaba case?</h2>

<p>On behalf of complainant Sushil Kumar, his advocate DD Pandey explained that in the month of April 2018, the co-accused had approached him on behalf of Dharmendra with an offer to open a franchise of Garam Dharma Dhaba on NH-24/NH-9, Uttar Pradesh.</p>

<p>Sushil was allegedly lured to invest in the franchise on the pretext that the branches of said restaurant at Delhi's Connaught Place and Haryana's Murthal were generating a monthly turnover of approximately Rs 7 to 8 million ruppees.</p>

<p>The complainant was promised that he would have to invest a sum of Rs 4.1 million against an assurance of a seven per cent profit on his investment.</p>

<p>The complainant was also promised that he would be getting complete assistance for setting up the franchise in Uttar Pradesh, said the lawyer.</p>

<p>Various e-mails were exchanged and meetings held between the complainant and co-accused in this regard.</p>

<p>In one of these meetings, Sushil was allegedly asked by a co-accused to invest a sum of 6.3 million plus tax and to arrange land for the said business and accordingly, a letter of intent dated September 22, 2018, was executed between the complainant, his business associates, and co-accused persons.</p>

<p>As per the letter, the complainant and his business associates had to pay 6.3 million up to January 31, 2019, to get the business franchise.</p>

<p>Sushil then gave a cheque of amount Rs 1.7 million on September 22, 2018.</p>

<p>The same was encashed. Further, land was also purchased on November 2, 2018, by the complainant and his business associates.</p>

<p>Sushil asked for work to progress but no parties involved responded to him. Sushil, after repeated attempts, filed a case of cheating.</p>

<p>It is further alleged that the complainant was threatened with dire consequences if he attempted to contact the accused again.</p>

<p>Since the case pertains to breach of contract, the matter is civil in nature and requires no police action.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The source further added, “He went to a wedding with his family, including&nbsp;Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, recently in Udaipur. That’s where he got injured, and his health took a toll. He hurt his back and leg while dancing. And his health also suffered because of exertion and old age”.</p>

<p>“He was exhausted because of the exertion, and it got bad because of his injury. However, he is doing fine now, and is on the road to recovery. In fact, he is taking it slow now, and focusing on his health completely,” added the source.</p>
