Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was on fire with the ball as he made a strong comeback from injury in the second T20I against Australia in Nagpur on Friday. Bumrah looked in a great rhythm and bowled a sensational yorker to clean up Aussie skipper Aaron Finch in his very first over in the game.

Bumrah was sidelined for a couple of months due to a back injury and missed the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022. The premier fast bowler also didn't feature in the series-opener between India and Australia earlier this week before making his comeback to take Umesh Yadav's place in the playing XI in the second T20I on Friday.

Bumrah came out to bowl for the first time in the 5th over of the rain-curtailed encounter. He bowled a searing yorker to rattle Finch's stumps and send him packing on 31 off 15 balls to reduce Australia to 46/4 in the 8-overs-a-side contest. Bumrah bowled two overs in the game and finished with figures of 1/23.

"Finch couldn't stop himself from applauding the delivery. It is never easy to make a comeback after an injury. He bowled an excellent spell under pressure. He is going to break people's toes at the T20 World Cup," he added.

IND vs AUS, 3rd T20I: Stampede in Hyderabad as fans come in large numbers for tickets - Watch

Before the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, to be held in Australia from October-November, India are involved in a three-match T20I series versus Australia, at home, and will then host South Africa in three T20Is and ODIs, each, before heading to the showpiece event. Since the Asia Cup 2022 edition, Rohit Sharma & Co. have disappointed their fans with their performances and their main concern remains death bowling.

India leaked runs in the death overs in their Super Four face-off versus Pakistan and the script remained the same versus Sri Lanka as well (losing both the games in the last over). In the three-match T20I series opener versus T20 world champions Australia, India posted 208 for 6 -- their highest score in the format versus Australia -- but failed to defend it as Aaron Finch & Co. won by four wickets in 19.2 overs courtesy of Cameron Green's 61 and Matthew Wade's 21-ball 45 not out.

India had reduced Australia to 145-5, at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, after they were cruising at 109 for 1 at the halfway mark. However, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal leaked runs -- with each going in excess of 11 an over -- whereas spinner Axar Patel was the only impressive bowler, conceding 3 for 17. Bhuvi, the most experienced of the lot, leaked 31 runs in his last 12 deliveries whereas Harshal gave away 22 in the penultimate over.

After the match, the Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led Indian team management remains concerned with the death-bowling woes. As per a report in InsideSport, the BCCI selectors also remain 'concerned' and will talk to the team management to address the bowling issues before the T20 WC Down Under.

"Of course, it’s a concern when our bowlers cannot defend 208. But there is time and you have to understand that the Mohali pitch was batting heaven. So, it would not be ideal to discard them based on one match. We will talk to the team management on the help they need to make this work," one of the selectors was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

"Jasprit is still not 100%, Harshal has just returned, and a senior campaigner like Bhuvneshwar has a dip in form at the worst possible time. So, it’s concerning. Umesh has returned from injury, so he was a bit off the rhythm. They will bounce back," the selector added.

Since the T20 WC will be held in Australia, a place where bowlers are offered good conditions, Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and Bhuvneshwar’s dip in form have kept the selectors worried.

England wins Twenty20 international on first Pakistan tour in 17 years

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri came down heavily on the Indian team after their poor fielding in the first T20I against Australia on Tuesday (September 20). Shastri said India are currently no match to the top teams in the world when it comes to fielding and that it can cost them badly in big tournaments.

India lost the series-opener against Australia by four wickets at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday despite posting a massive total of 208 runs on the board. The hosts produced a remarkable effort with the bat but the bowlers were taken to the cleaners as the Aussies pulled off a record chase.

India's shoddy fielding didn't help their cause during Australia's run-chase as the hosts dropped a number of crucial catches to let the game slip out of their hands. India dropped a total of three catches during Australia's innings, including those of Cameron Green and Matthew Wade, who went on to play terrific knocks to help the visitors gun down the 209-run target.

"If you look at all the top Indian teams over the years, there is youth and experience. I find the youth missing here and hence the fielding. If you look at the last five-six years, fielding-wise, I think this side is no match to any of the top sides when it comes to fielding. And that can hit badly in big tournaments," Shastri said on Star Sports after the match.

While Axar Patel dropped Green on 42 and went on to score 61 off just 30 deliveries, Wade remained unbeaten on 45 off 21 balls to take the Aussies home. It was a poor effort from India on the field as they put down important catches while also giving away crucial runs.

'They are no match to top teams': Ravi Shastri slams Team India for sloppy fielding against Australia

India failed to defend a massive total of 208 runs as they suffered a four-wicket defeat in the first T20I against Australia at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday (September 20). India produced a brilliant show with the bat but the bowlers failed to deliver as the Aussies went 1-0 up in the three-match series with a comfortable victory.

With the four-wicket defeat in the series-opener, the Men in Blue sipped to a new low as they became the first team to fail to defend 200-plus totals in T20Is at home more than once in a calendar year. India had earlier failed to defend a total of 211 runs in a T20I against South Africa at home under Rishabh Pant's captaincy.

Rohit Sharma & Co. are the only second team after South Africa among the full members of the ICC to have lost twice in a calendar year despite having posted a total in excess of 200 in a T20I match. Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners on Tuesday as Australia gunned down the 209-run target with four balls to spare.

Batting first in the series-opener, India lost captain Rohit Sharma cheaply on 11 off 9 balls before Virat Kohli too departed early managing just 2 runs off 7 balls. However, KL Rahul played a sublime knock of 35-ball 55 and was well supported by Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 46 off 25 balls as the duo added 68 runs for the third wicket.

Hardik Pandya then notched u a sensational cameo of 30-ball 71 laced with seven fours and five sixes to help India post a mammoth total of 208 runs on the board in 20 overs. It was India's highest-ever total in a T20I game against Australia and the bowlers were expected to defend it comfortably.

Rohit Sharma-led India set unwanted record after failing to defend 208 in 1st T20I against Australia

The Indian team is facing criticism from all corners for their sloppy fielding in the first T20I against Australia in Mohali on Tuesday. India looked far from clinical on the pitch and dropped as many as three crucial catches during Australia's run-chase. The Men in Blue lost the series-opener by four wickets after failing to defend a good total of 208 runs.

India dropped the catches of both Cameron Green and Matthew Wade, who went on to play brilliant knocks to take their team home in the 209-run chase. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt took a swipe at the Indian players' fitness after their shoddy fielding in the game and called some of the Indian players 'overweight'.

Butt compared the Indian players to their Australian, English and South African counterparts while arguing why they are not the fittest despite being the highest-paid cricketers in the world.

"Indian players are the highest-paid cricketers in the world. They play the maximum number of matches. You tell me why are they not the fittest. If we compare their body structure, teams like South Africa, Australia and England are much better. I would even say some Asian teams are ahead of India. Some Indian players are overweight. I think they need to work on that because they are brilliant cricketers," Butt said in a video on his YouTube channel.

While he admitted the likes of Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja have set great fitness standards in the Indian team, Butt argued Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant don't look on top of their fitness. He also called out KL Rahul for being lethargic on the field against Australia on Tuesday.

"I don't know if others will talk about this or not, but in my view, Team India's fitness is not ideal. Some experienced players are not at that level where they should be in terms of fielding. Virat Kohli has set an example for others in fitness. Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya are so fit," said Butt.

They have outstanding fitness, but there are players like Rohit Sharma, even KL Rahul looked lethargic today, you know, Rishabh Pant. If they become fit, they will become more dangerous cricketers," he added.

Highest-paid but some are overweight: Former Pakistan captain aims dig at Indian players on fitness

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar shared his two cents on skipper Rohit Sharma's recent struggles for the Indian team in white-ball cricket. While he has been among the runs, Rohit has been far from consistent and has often gotten out trying to go after the bowlers.

India's new approach to go all-out from the word go in T20Is has ended up costing Rohit his wicket on several occasions. The opening batter tried to take on the Australian bowlers early in India's innings in the first T20I in Mohali on Tuesday but ended up getting dismissed cheaply for just 11 off nine deliveries.

Rohit played a couple of good shots during his stay in the middle, including a brilliant six over backward square leg against Pat Cummins in the second over. However, the Indian skipper perished in the next over after trying to flick one for a six against Josh Hazlewood.

Explaining Rohit's recent struggles on the pitch, Gavaskar said the Indian skipper is trying to do a little bit more every time he walks out to bat. The India legend believes Rohit should take his time in settling down at the top before taking on the bowlers as he has enough shots in his arsenal to catch up later even if he starts slow.

"With Rohit Sharma, the range of shots that he has, he doesn't really have to do what he is looking to do over here, that is step down the pitch even before the bowler has released the ball," Gavaskar told India Today.

"The way he has been playing T20 cricket before that, his scoring and strike rate has been phenomenal. It's been absolutely terrific. He hasn't tried to do anything more. Over here, in the last few matches, it just seems to me that he is looking to do a little bit more and, in the process, getting out," he added.

Despite Rohit's cheap dismissal in the first T20I, India managed to post a big total of 208 runs riding on brilliant half-centuries from KL Rahul (55) and Hardik Pandya (71). Suryakumar Yadav also looked in terrific touch as he notched up a quickfire 46 off 25 deliveries. However, their efforts went in vain as Australia gunned down the target with four balls to spare.

Rohit's personal form can be a concern for India with the T20 World Cup 2022 starting next month in Australia. The Hitman hasn't looked on top of his game and Gavaskar believes he needs to give himself time while opening to ensure he can produce impactful knocks for the team.

"I do believe that Rohit needs to give himself that little more time, he has got all the shots in the book. Even if he gets off to a slow start, he can triple it by the time his innings is over," he added," said Gavaskar.

Rohit has so far scored 434 runs in 18 T20Is this year at an average of 25.52. He has maintained a healthy strike rate of 142.76 but has managed only two fifties in the shortest format, highlighting his inconsistent returns at the top. The Indian skipper will be hopeful of bouncing back in the remaining two games of the ongoing three-match T20I series against Australia.

Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam gave a strong response after he was slammed by former cricketer Aaqib Javed over his timid batting approach in T20Is. Javed had criticised Babar over his slow strike rate and inability to accelerate in the shortest format.

Javed, who is the head coach of the Lahore Qalandars franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) also aimed a sarcastic jibe at the Pakistan captain, claiming he never asks his team to get Babar out in a run-chase due to his sow strike rate. Responding to his comments, Babar urged former players to avoid making personal attacks.

"When we play against Karachi Kings and we have a total of 180 or so, we have never tried too hard or wanted too badly to get Babar Azam out. Because he plays at his own pace and the required rate keeps increasing," Javed had said taking a dig at Babar.

The Pakistan captain was asked for his views on the former pacer's comments during the pre-match press conference ahead of the first T20I against England at home. Babar said he respects everyone's opinion but never lets the criticism get in his head and affect his performances.

"He may think so. Everyone has their opinion but as players, we do not carry it inside the dressing room," Babar told reporters on Monday.

"Former players know how difficult it is to play in the middle. They can make observations but personal attacks should not happen. There is no need for that," he added.

The Pakistan captain has been subjected to criticism after his lean patch in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022. The prolific right-hander looked out of touch as he managed to score only 68 runs in six matches throughout the tournament. However, Babar is hopeful of bouncing back in the upcoming series against England.

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has made a bold suggestion urging the Indian team management to leave Rishabh Pant out of the playing XI in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. Jaffer believes Pant has not managed to impress in T20Is for India and doesn't fit in the middle order.

Pant and Dinesh Karthik are the two wicket-keepers in India's 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia next month. While it remains to be seen who will be the first choice behind the stumps, Jaffer believes Karthik should play ahead of Pant as the left-hander has not been up to the mark in the shortest format of the game.

India will lock horns with Australia in a three-match T20I series starting from Tuesday where they will have to make the tough choice of picking one between Pant and Karthik. Jaffer wants the Indian team management to go with Karthik as the keeper and give all-rounder Axar Patel a chance in the middle-order in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja.

"I think Axar Patel has done really well in recent times, so I don't know why India has not trusted him, because he has won matches with his batting," Jaffer said on ESPNCricinfo.

Explaining why Pant should not be India's playing XI in the World Cup, Jaffer said the left-hander might have played some game-changing knocks in Test cricket but is still to prove his worth in the shortest format for the Indian team. Jaffer believes Pant can be utilised as an opener but he doesn't suit well in the middle order.

"India need to figure out whether Rishabh Pant plays or not. The Indian think tank has been thinking a lot about putting Rishabh Pant in. He has been brilliant and we have talked about it many times. In Test cricket and in the ODIs, he has played series-winning, game-changing knocks, but that has not happened in T20 internationals or even in T20s," Jaffer said.

"So India need to figure out if they want to stick with Rishabh Pant in the top six or if they want to play Dinesh Karthik, who has done really well since the Indian Premier League. For me personally, Rishabh Pant does not fit in number 4 or 5. His best place is to open the batting, which I don't think will happen. I feel leaving out Rishabh Pant in the World Cup will be the best thing," he added.

Pant has so far played 58 T20Is for the Indian team and has managed to score 934 runs at an average of 23.94 and a strike rate of just over 126. He is yet to fire consistently with the willow in the shortest format and is yet to play the kind of innings he is known for.

Also Read: Will Virat Kohli break Sachin Tendulkar's historic feat? Ricky Ponting shares his take Explaining why Pant should not be India's playing XI in the World Cup, Jaffer said the left-hander might have played some game-changing knocks in Test cricket but is still to prove his worth in the shortest format for the Indian team. No Rishabh Pant in T20 World Cup? Wasim Jaffer says leaving out wicket-keeper will be best thing for India

Kapil Dev is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders of all time. He led India to their maiden cricket World Cup triumph in 1983 after defeating the mighty West Indies in the final, a victory that changed the way the game was played in the country. It also paved way for future generations to take up the game.

While he was an exceptional fast bowler, Kapil was also a hard-hitting batter and could change gears seamlessly during matches when required. One of the finest all-rounders to have played the game, Kapil had 434 wickets to his name in Test cricket when he decided to retire from the game in 1994.

He was the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket at the time and had just surpassed Richard Hadlee's tally in the longest format. However, Kapil was subsequently convinced to bring curtains down on his 16-year-long international career by the then BCCI selection committee.

Former India selector Anshuman Gaekwad, who was part of the selection panel at the time, recalled how he convinced Kapil to retire from the game after he broke Hadlee's record in a Test match against Sri Lanka. Gaekwad revealed it was not an easy decision but the selectors had decided to move on from Kapil after allowing him to play the Test series against Sri Lanka that year.

However, Kapil went on to state in a press conference after his record-breaking feat that he wanted to play for two more years. His statement prompted the selectors to have a conversation with the former all-rounder.

"You can’t drop such a big player. We allowed him (Kapil) to play the Test series against Sri Lanka, and he broke the world record in the Ahmedabad Test. We thought he would announce his retirement after breaking the record. However, that evening, at the press conference, he said that he’ll play for two more years," Gaikwad recently recalled while speaking at an event in Mumbai, as per Mid-Day.

"Next day, a seemingly hassled (chief selector Gundappa Viswanath) Vishy told me, 'See the headlines. Kapil is saying that he will play for two more years'.

"That same evening, there was a national selection committee meeting. (Jagmohan) Dalmiya was the BCCI secretary. So, we sat and decided that it was time for Kapil to quit. I suggested to Dalmiya that as a selection committee chairman and senior, Vishy should talk to him.

"However, Vishy insisted that I accompany him. "At tea time, we approached Kapil in the dressing room. Vishy wasn't a forthright guy, who would tell you that you were doing something wrong on your face," he added.

Gaekwad and Viswanath then went on to meet Kapil for a conversation regarding his future and the two selectors offered the legendary all-rounder a farewell game while urging him to quit international cricket. Gaikwad said Kapil accepted their suggestions gracefully and agreed to hang up his boots.

"He would go round and round while talking to someone. So, I took the initiative. I told Kapil: 'Kaps, we need to talk to you. The selectors feel that you need to quit now, and you also know it. We will give you a farewell game as per your choice, but you've got to call it a day.' Kapil reacted very nicely and said: 'Thank you very much. I really appreciate what you told me'. One has to do these kind of things at times, which I did," Gaekwad said.

Kapil played his last Test match for India against New Zealand in Hamilton in March 1994 and his last ODI appearance for India came against West Indies at his home ground in Faridabad, Haryana on October 17, the same year.

He played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs for India and finished with 5248 and 3783 runs in the two formats respectively. The legendary all-rounder picked up a total of 687 wickets in international cricket.

'We need to talk to you': Former India selector reveals how he convinced the legendary Kapil Dev to retire

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced a fresh set of rules which are set to have a significant impact on the game. ICC have announced a host of changes to the playing conditions which were approved by the ICC Cricket Committee led by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. The new rules will come into effect from October 01, 2022.

With the T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner, the new rules are set to be implemented in the tournament and can have a huge impact. As per the new rules, 'Mankad'(bowler running the non-striker out) is no longer under the 'Unfair Play' section and will be considered a legitimate run-out.

The use of saliva to shine the cricket ball has also been permanently banned. ICC banned the use of saliva for the first time in 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, however, the rule is now set to be implemented permanently. As per the new rules, the incoming batters will now have only two minutes to take charge at the crease after the dismissal of their teammate.

Here is a look at the new ICC rules:

Ban on saliva: The use of saliva to shine or polish the cricket ball will be banned permanently in international cricket. The long-standing practice had been abolished for the first time in 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis. The rule is now set to be implemented permanently and the players will not be allowed to use saliva on the ball to generate swing. The players can continue using sweat to shine the ball instead of saliva.

Batter returning when caught: The new batter coming in will have to take strike when a batter is caught, regardless of whether the two batters crossed each other on the pitch during the dismissal. Earlier, if the batter had crossed the non-striker before the catch, the non-striker was allowed to take strike.

'Mankad' not unfair: Running out the non-striker for backing up too much will no more be considered unfair and referred to as 'Mankad'. The mode of dismissal has now been moved from the 'Unfair Play' section to the 'Run out' section. Running out a non-striker will now be considered a regular run-out.

Incoming batter ready to face the ball: The incoming batter will be allowed only two minutes to settle down and take the strike in both ODIs and Tests. The 90 seconds rule in T20Is will remain intact.

Bowler throwing the ball at the striker's end before the delivery: As per the new rule, a bowler will not be allowed to attempt to run out a batter on the striker's end if he is advancing down the wicket before the bowler's delivery stride. The bowler was earlier allowed to attempt a run-out but it will now be deemed a dead ball.

Striker's right to play the ball: A batter will require to keep some part of their bat or their body inside the pitch while facing a delivery. It will be called a dead ball if a batter stands beyond the pitch. Any delivery which forces the batter to leave the pitch will also be called a no-ball

Five runs penalty on unfair fielding movement: Any attempt to distract the batter by the fielding side with an unfair or deliberate movement while the bowler is running in to bowl the delivery will result in a five-run penalty. The batting side will be awarded five runs and the delivery will be adjudged as a dead ball.

Penalty for slow over rate: In January this year, the ICC implemented a new in-match penalty for teams failing to complete their overs in the allotted time in T20Is. Failure of the fielding team to bowl their overs in the scheduled time led to an additional fielder being brought inside the fielding circle for the remaining overs during the match.

The rule is now set to be implemented in ODIs as well following the conclusion of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League in 2023. The rule has already cost matches to a few teams for maintaining a slow over rate.

ICC introduces new rules in cricket: No more 'mankad', permanent ban on use of saliva on ball

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Mohammad Hafeez has opened up on his recent comments about the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and said the people are unwilling to criticise the Indian cricket board due to its growing influence in world cricket. Hafeez had recently called India the 'pampered child' of world cricket.

The former Pakistan all-rounder believes BCCI's power helps the Indian board in influencing a lot of major decisions in world cricket and there are not many who raise their voice against them. BCCI is one of the richest cricket boards in the world and enjoys significant power in the International Cricket Council (ICC) affairs.

Former cricketers like Australia's Adam Gilchrist and Sri Lanka's Arvinda de Silva among others have in the past expressed their concerns over BCCI enjoying veto power in the ICC. Hafeez has now become the latest to join the bandwagon and speak against the Indian cricket board.

"Let’s be honest. Cricket is a beautiful game, and the countries that play it are really good at the sport. They add value wherever they go. They have a flair that entertains fans. But when it comes to India, everybody knows that a lot of times people stay quiet, thinking that they cannot criticise India," Hafeez said in an interview with Cricket Pakistan.

Many other players inspire you and provide eye-catching moments with their game. That’s why I said that they are treated as ‘laadla’. I stand by my statement," he added.

Former Australian cricketer encountered an unwanted guest in his hotel room in India's Lucknow on Monday. Johnson found a snake lying in the room of the hotel where he is staying in the city. He took to social media to share pictures of the snake and asked fans to guess what type it was.

“Anyone know what type of snake this is?? Just hanging out in my room door," Johnson wrote while sharing pictures of the snake lying on the ground.

Australia's T20I skipper Aaron Finch has hailed Virat Kohli as one of the greatest batters of all time ahead of the T20I series against India. Australia will lock horns with hosts India in a three-match T20I series starting on Tuesday (September 20).

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the first T20I between the two top teams in Mohali, Aussie skipper Finch said it will take a brave person to write off someone like Kohli, who has been on top of his game for a number of years now. One of the best batters in the world at present, Kohli had shut down his critics with his performances at the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022.

The Indian batter was under fire heading into the Asia Cup having faced massive criticism over his slump in form. He had gone without scoring an international century for nearly three years but managed to bounce back in style. Kohli rediscovered his form and went on to bring an end to his long-standing wait for his 71st international century.

Kohli ended the tournament as the highest run-getter for India with 276 runs from five matches at a brilliant average of 92. He also joined Ricky Ponting at the second spot on the list of batters with the highest number of centuries in international cricket and now lies behind only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 100 international tons.

Finch said scoring 71 international centuries is a 'ridiculous' achievement and it's never a good idea to write off someone like Kohli, who has the pedigree for big knocks.

''It would be a very brave man to write Virat Kohli off. At any stage, he has shown for 15 years now that he is one of the greatest players of all time,'' Finch told reporters ahead of the first T20I against India.

''Particularly in T20 cricket, he's someone who has developed and grown his game over such a long period that you always plan and prepare the best when you're coming up against him. He is super and has 71 international centuries. That's just ridiculous,'' added the Australian skipper.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir revealed some of the senior players in the Indian team told him ahead of the semi-final of the 2011 ODI World Cup that they needed to win the tournament to take the "conversation away from 1983". Gambhir was part of India's title-winning squad in the 2011 World Cup and played an instrumental role in the team's memorable triumph.

India had won their maiden cricket World Cup under the legendary Kapil Dev in 1983 before clinching their second title under MS Dhoni in 2011. India had defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in a high-octane semi-final before locking horns with Sri Lanka in the final at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Ahead of the semi-final against Pakistan, some of the senior members of the Indian team had a conversation with Gambhir stressing on why they wanted to win the tournament. Gambhir revealed he was not interested in 'finishing anyone' while referring to the contributions of the 1983 World Cup-winning team and only wanted to bring glory to the nation.

"Two or three senior players came to me and said 'we need to win this tournament because we have to take the conversation away from 1983. We have to finish their thing off', Gambhir said on Indian Express's Idea Exchange.

"I said I haven’t come here to finish anyone. I haven’t come here to shorten someone’s line. I want to win this to extend our line. If the media is giving them jobs from 1983 to 2011, that’s the media’s problem, not ours.

"We need to win the World Cup because we want this country to be happy. That is something which needs to change in the future," added the former India opener.

Gambhir had played a key role in helping India win the final against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup with a brilliant knock of 97 runs. Chasing a tricky target of 275 runs, India found themselves reeling at 31/2 inside the first seven overs after losing openers Virender Sehwag (18) and Sachin Tendulkar (0) cheaply before Gambhir steadied the ship with Virat Kohli.

A young Kohli scored crucial 35 runs off 49 balls to add an 83-run stand for the third wicket with Gambhir before he was sent back by Tillakaratne Dilshan. Gambhir then joined forces with captain MS Dhoni in the middle to take India closer to victory with a gritty 97 off 122 balls.

Dhoni finished off the chase in style with an iconic six and remained unbeaten on 91 off 79 deliveries. He was awarded the Man of the Match for his captain's knock but Gambhir was the top-scorer for India in the final with his 97.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins has issued a warning to the Indian team ahead of the start of the upcoming three-match T20I series between the two sides. India will host Australia in the three-match rubber which can prove to be perfect preparation for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia next month.

Australia are missing a number of key players in the T20I series against India as star batter David Warner has been rested while the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis are out with injuries. However, Cummins has warned India no to take the Aussies lightly as they still have a strong team and will look to earn positive results.

Cummins also expressed confidence in his abilities and said he is in peak shape raring to go against the hosts. The right-arm pacer is making his comeback for Australia after two months as he last featured for the national side during their tour of Sri Lanka in July this year.

Australia will head into the World Cup next month as the defending champions and arguably one of the favourites to win the title at home. Aaron Finch will continue leading the team in the shortest format after he retired from ODIs recently.

The three-match series will be a good test for the Indian team as the hosts will look to bounce back after their disappointing campaign in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022 where they failed to make it to the final after facing back-to-back defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

However, India have performed exceedingly well under new captain Rohit Sharma in T20Is since the T20 World Cup last year, barring their recent blip at the Asia Cup. India are yet to lose a bilateral T20I series under Rohit and will be aiming to keep the record intact against the Aussies.

Tensions have been rising in UK's east Leciseter after the Asia Cup cricket matches between India and Pakistan. The area is home to a large diaspora community with origins in the two neighbouring South Asian countries, which are arch rivals in cricket.

The Leicestershire police arrested 15 people for causing 'disorder', following clashes between two groups and unplanned protests. The police said it was done to minimise harm and disturbance to the communities. All 15 people remain in police custody.

The protests broke out on Saturday night after rumours of an attack on a mosque surfaced on social media. But Leicestershire Police had rubbished the speculations stating, "We've seen reports on social media that a mosque is being attacked. Officers on the ground have confirmed this is not true. Please only share information on social media you know to be true."

Two people were arrested earlier, following the protests on Saturday night and Sunday morning. While one man was detained on the suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder, another was held for the possession of a bladed article. Another police operation was conducted to contain the serious disorder in the city leading to 15 arrests on Sunday.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh celebrated the 15th anniversary of his six sixes against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup with his son Orion on Monday (September 19). Yuvraj had become the second batter after former South Africa batter Herschelle Gibbs to slam six sixes in an over in international cricket.

The former India all-rounder had launched a brutal onslaught against England pacer Stuart Broad in the T20 World Cup clash between the two sides at the Kingsmead in Durban. While he became the first Indian batter to smash six sixes of six consecutive deliveries in an international game, Yuvraj also smashed the fastest fifty in international cricket off just 12 balls.

It was on this day in 2007 that Yuvraj achieved the magnificent feat and he celebrated the 15th anniversary of his six sixes in the company of his son Orion on Monday.

"Couldn’t have found a better partner to watch this together with after 15 years," Yuvraj tweeted with a video of himself watching the highlights of his famous knock with his son.

Yuvraj came out to bat at number five in the game and was looking in terrific touch as he went after the England bowlers from the word go. The swashbuckling left-hander was involved in an on-field spat with Andrew Flintoff ahead of Broad's over and went on to vent out his frustration against the pacer by whacking him for six straight sixes.

He dispatched the first ball of the 19th over from Broad over the cow corner before sending the second one ver backward square leg for a maximum. There was no stopping Yuvraj as he smashed the next one over extra cover before punishing Broad again in the fourth over despite the pacer going round the wicket.

Mohammed Shami's T20I comeback will be delayed as the veteran pace bowler has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be out of the Australia series starting in Mohali from September 20.

Veteran pacer Umesh Yadav, who played the last of his seven T20Is in 2019 against Australia is back in the scheme of things, having recovered from a quadriceps injury.

"Yes, Shami has tested COVID-19 positive. But there is nothing to worry as the symptoms are mild. But he will have to remain in isolation and will be able to rejoin the squad once he tests negative. It is unfortunate but that is how life is," a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Asked how long he thinks Shami will take to recover, the source seemed hopeful that he would be fit for the next series against Australia.

"We are expecting Shami to be fit for the next series against South Africa. There is 10 days before that series starts. So we are more than hopeful you can say," he said.

Mohammed Shami out of Australia T20 series due to COVID19, likely to be replaced by Umesh Yadav

Rohit Sharam-led India will be looking to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 when they host Australia in a three-match T20I series starting from Tuesday (September 20). India last locked horns with Australia in a T20I series last year and won 2-1.

This will be India's first assignment since their disappointing exit from the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE where the Men in Blue failed to make it to the final after facing straight defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The hosts will be aiming to bounce back and regain some confidence ahead of the World Cup in Australia next month.

While it remains to be seen who will be groomed as the second all-rounder in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja, the series will also mark the return of fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. After the Indian pacers' poor show at the Asia Cup, a lot will be riding on the shoulders of Bumrah and Harshal against the Aussies.

India were dealt with a blow ahead of the start of the T20I series as senior pacer Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the three-match rubber after testing positive for COVID-19. He has been replaced by Umesh Yadav, who has been recalled to the T20I team after a long gap.

It will also be a litmus test for opening batter KL Rahul, who has come under pressure after failing to fire since his comeback from injury last month. Senior batter Virat Kohli will also be hoping to continue his fine form after rediscovering his mojo in the Asia Cup.

India vs Australia T20I series: Full schedule, timings, squads and live streaming details

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir believes India can not win the T20 World Cup this year if they cannot beat Australia in the tournament. Australia are the defending champions and the hosts of the upcoming edition of the tournament and will start the tournament as one of the favourites for the title.

India and Australia are set to lock horns with each other in a three-match T20I series at home starting on Tuesday. The series will serve as perfect preparation for both teams ahead of the showpiece event next season. Gambhir wants the Indian team to not take the assignment lightly and get the better of Australia at home.

Talking about the importance of the upcoming series for the Indian team, Gambhir said India will have to beat Australia if they want to win the T20 World Cup this year. The former opener also pointed out how India had defeated Australia in both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup on their way to lifting the titles.

India cannot win the T20 World Cup if they do not beat Australia, says Gautam Gambhir

Amid rising debate over Virat Kohli's promotion as an opener for India in T20Is, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has said he and the team management are open to being flexible ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia next month. Kohli has been touted by many to replace opening batter KL Rahul at the top after returning to form in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022

Kohli had smashed his 71st international century while opening the batting in India's final Super Four game against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, sparking a debate if he should continue batting at the top for the Indian team in the shortest format.

Ahead of the start of India's three-match T20I series against Australia at home, skipper Rohit was asked if Kohli can be considered for the opening slot in the T20 World Cup. The Indian captain said Kohli is a 'definite option' for the team as an opener as he has done well opening for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL as well.

"It is always nice to have options available for you. It is important going into a World Cup that you have flexibility. You want the players to be in best shape batting at any position. When we try and do something new, that does not mean that's a problem," Rohit said during the presser.

"For us, we understand the quality of all our players and what they bring for us. But yeah, it is an option (Virat Kohli opening) for us, we will always keep that in mind. Since we have not taken a third opener, he opens for his franchise in the IPL and he has done really well, so it is a definite option for us," he explained.

However, Rohit insisted Rahul remains India's first-choice opener and Kohli will only come into the picture if his performances dip in the T20 World Cup. The Hitman confirmed Kohli will be India's third opener and might play a few matches ahead of Rahul in the showpiece event next month.

"Virat Kohli is our third opener and he will open in some of the games. In the last match of Asia Cup, we were happy with the way he played. But KL Rahul will open the batting in the World Cup, we do not want to experiment with that position a lot, his performance sometimes goes quite unnoticed," said Rohit.

Virat Kohli opening in T20 World Cup definitely an option for us, says Indian skipper Rohit Sharma

Virat Kohli rediscovered his form in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022 where he finished as the highest run-getter for India with 276 runs from five matches, including his much-awaited 71st international ton. Kohli slammed two successive fifties before following it up with his maiden T20I hundred in India's last Super Four game against Afghanistan.

The Indian batting maestro scored his 71st ton while opening the innings in the absence of captain Rohit Sharma, who was rested for the game. Kohli looked in wonderful touch as he smashed a brilliant knock of 122 runs to end his campaign in the Asia Cup on a high and shut down his critics in style.

After his amazing knock as an opener, there have been talks of Kohli opening the batting for India in T20Is. Kohli's heroics at the top has come at a time when opener KL Rahul is finding it difficult to get going after returning from his injury.

Rahul has failed to fire so far since making his comeback during India's tour of Zimbabwe earlier this year and his form is a concern for the Indian team heading into the T20 World Cup next month. However, former India opener Gautam Gambhir has played down the suggestions of Kohli replacing Rahul as an opener for India in T20Is.

Gambhir believes the talks of Kohli opening the innings will put unnecessary pressure on Rahul and will damage his confidence if he fails to do well in the first game at the T20 World Cup. The former India opener wants the selectors to ensure Rahul doesn't feel insecure about his spot as an opener ahead of the major tournament.

“You know what happens in India? The moment someone starts doing very well -for example, when Virat Kohli scored a hundred in the last game, we all start forgetting what Rahul and Rohit have done over a long period of time," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

“When you talk about Kohli opening the batting, imagine what happens to KL Rahul? Imagine the amount of insecurity he must be feeling. Imagine if he gets a low score in the first game, there will be another debate on whether Kohli should open in the next game," he added.

Both Rahul and Kohli are part of India's final 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. However, Rahul is unlikely to lose his spot to Kohli unless his form dips further in the upcoming home series against Australia and South Africa. In case Kohli is asked to open for India, Suryakumar Yadav will be a natural selection at number 3.

Virat Kohli rediscovered his form in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022 where he finished as the highest run-getter for India with 276 runs from five matches, including his much-awaited 71st international ton.

Sanju Samson was snubbed from India's T20 World Cup 2022 squad which was announced earlier this month. The talented wicket-keeper batter was touted by many to make the cut into the final 15-man squad but was overlooked as the selectors picked Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant as the two wicket-keepers in the team.

Samson failed to even make it to the list of reserves which left his fans disappointed. Ever since India's squad was announced, there has been a lot of talk surrounding Samson's non-selection and his fans have lashed out at the BCCI and selectors for not providing enough chances to the 27-year-old.

Amid the growing debate over his snub, Samson was on Saturday named the captain of the India A team for their upcoming unofficial ODI series against New Zealand. Reacting to his appointment as captain, former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria said the BCCI came under massive pressure after Samson was not selected for the T20 World Cup 2022 which led to him becoming the captain of the India A team.

"Sanju has great fan following. His batting style, in Australia, gives you an X-factor. On bouncy wickets, nobody plays better than Sanju...Sanju has now been made India A captain (against New Zealand). BCCI came under so much pressure (for not selecting Sanju Samson for T20 World Cup), that Sanju was been handed the captaincy of India A," Kaneria said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Apart from Samson, the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Umran Malik among others will also be seen in action for India A in their upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand A. Samson will be hoping to make the most of the opportunity and lead his team to victory against the Black Caps.

'BCCI came under pressure': Former Pakistan star on Sanju Samson being appointed as India A captain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to introduce the 'impact player' rule in the domestic T20 tournaments in the country, including the Indian Premier League (IPL). The rule is set to be tested for the first time in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which gets underway on October 11 before it can be applied in the IPL.

As per the rule, a team can replace one member of their playing XI with an 'impact' substitute during a match in order to improve their chances of winning the contest. The impact sub can either be a batter or a bowler and can help his team change the game. The BCCI wants to first implement the rule in domestic tournaments for the players and team officials to get used to it.

The Indian cricket board believes the rule will further help in making T20s more attractive and interesting amid the rising popularity of the game.

“With the ever-growing popularity of T20 cricket, it is imperative that we look at introducing new dimensions which will make this format more attractive and interesting not only for our viewers but also the participating teams from a strategic viewpoint," the BCCI said in a circular sent to all state associations.

“Teams need to identify playing XI and 4 substitutes at the time of the toss. Out of the 4 substitutes named in the team sheet, only one of the players can be used as an Impact player,” it added.

All you need to know about the Impact Player rule

An impact player can be the 12th or 13th name on the team sheet alongside the original playing XI. The impact player can be introduced after the 10th over of the first innings and can replace only a player, who hasn't batted or is yet to bowl more than a single over.

The replacement player can bowl his full quota of four overs even if the player he replaced has already bowled one over. However, the impact player cannot bowl four overs if the match is interrupted by rain and the overs are reduced per innings. The impact player can be introduced only before the completion of the 14th over of the innings.

It is not mandatory for a team to use impact players during a game. However, if a team plans to introduce one, the captain, head coach or manager will have to inform the on-field officials about the introduction of the impact player. Once replaced by an impact player, the other player cannot take part in the rest of the game or come in as a substitute fielder.

“Player who is replaced by an Impact Player can no longer take part in the remainder of the match and is also not permitted to return as a substitute fielder. If a player gets injured while fielding in mid over, the current playing condition prevails under 24.1 – substitute fielders,” stated the circular shared by BCCI.

“After the introduction of Impact Player in game, a player can bat and may bowl a full allotment of 4 overs in an uninterrupted innings. In case a player gets retired hurt, Impact Player can be introduced only at the end of the over in progress and is eligible to bat. In any situation, only 11 players can bat," it added further.

No impact players can be used if the start of the match is delayed and the overs are reduced to less than ten per innings. The rule can be a game-changer going ahead as teams can use it to their benefit by introducing an 'impact player' when in trouble while batting or bowling.

BCCI set to introduce new 'impact player' rule in domestic T20s and IPL - All you need to know

Former cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Mathew Hayden have brushed away the argument that Virat Kohli would be opening the innings in the upcoming T20I series against Australia and Men`s T20 World Cup, saying that the star batter should bat at No 3 for India in T20 cricket and there should not be any doubt that.

During the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022, Kohli scored his maiden T20I century (122 not off 61 balls) which marked his resurgence to form.

Following a break from cricket, Virat had a brilliant Asia Cup where he emerged as the tournament`s second highest scorer and was in sublime touch. His form is a good sign for India ahead of the ICC Men`s T20 World Cup which is less than a month away.

The former India opener Gambhir said that he will expect the same fluency from Kohli in the T20I series against Australia, starting on September 20.

"Exactly the same fluency as what we saw in the Asia Cup. The only issue is, that when we saw him play that innings against Afghanistan it was at the top of the order. And in a T20 format, there is a huge difference in playing in the first six and after the first six. And when you go into the middle without having any scoreboard pressure, suddenly when you`re one wicket down or probably will have to continue the momentum so that`s a different ball game, but runs under your belt or no runs under your belt, there is no better feeling than scoring a hundred," Gambhir told Star Sports.

"And Virat goes into the series with a lot of confidence and I hope he continues his form because he is going to be very useful if India has to play well in the world cup because it`s a very important position," he added.

On the other hand, former Australia opener Hayden said that Kohli is a great player of fast bowling and also shut down any discussion on the Indian batter`s position in the team.

"Virat, you know, he`s such a great player of fast bowling, and Australia`s full of fast bowling in their cricket team and they are relying heavily on Adam Zampa through the middle stages now. Pointers to take pace off the ball, Mitch Marsh as well, he`ll handle him nicely," the 50-year-old said.

"And this great debate around Virat batting up, GG (Gambhir) and I have already had this over the last couple of days, there`s no way that he has to open the batting, he has to bat at number 3, simple as that. And again, it`s another one of those things that you don`t want to let the door open the discussion on this.

"You don`t want to have a doubt, you don`t want to have K.L Rahul in the masterful form that he`s been in of late and Rohit Sharma who is captain of the team thinking `I`ve got to kind of watch my spot here that you know I`m an opening batsman and my job is to play with freedom` and unfortunately, when you start having these debates and you start thinking `oh maybe he, for his game, it should be him opening`, I`m sure he wouldn`t want to entertain that and put pressure.

"The one thing that you want to alleviate in the World Cup is the pressure. Just let the batting order rely on its own form and Virat Kohli can handle the situation. He`s a world-class player, he can bat at three and he should bat at three in my opinion," he added.

Gambhir was in full support of Hayden`s argument, saying the confusion over Kohli`s batting order will put more pressure on other batters of the team.

"That`s a very valid point, the moment someone starts doing very well, for example, if Virat Kohli has got a hundred in the last game, we all start forgetting about what K.L Rahul and Rohit Sharma have done over such a long period of time. And suddenly when you start this debate about Virat Kohli opening the batting, imagine what happens to K.L Rahul, you don`t want your top-class players to be under pressure, especially someone like K.L Rahul, who`s got probably more ability than Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli. And we have seen that in international cricket and the IPL as well," he said.

"Think from India`s point of view and not from an individual`s point of view. So that`s why I think you (Hayden) made a very valid point that we as experts and broadcasters should start thinking about how India can flourish in the World Cup rather than certain individuals who particularly want to bat at a certain number," he added.

Gautam Gambhir and Mathew Hayden call for Virat Kohli to come in to bat at No. 3 in upcoming T20I outings

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja recently responded to former all-rounder Shahid Afridi's shocking statement about injured fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi. Afridi had recently claimed Shaheen, who is recovering from an injury, has travelled to England at his own expense and is undergoing treatment on his own.

Speaking on a Pakistani news channel, Afridi claimed Shaheen has received no support from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) despite being one of the superstars in the current Pakistan team. His statement soon went viral on social media and became a major talking point in the Pakistan cricket fraternity, inviting criticism for the PCB.

However, PCB chief Raja has denied Afridi's allegations and has termed the entire saga an “unfortunate controversy”. Raja said there was some ticketing issue in Shaheen's case as he had to leave early and the left-arm pacer didn't like the place that PCB had arranged for his treatment so he opted for treatment from another doctor.

"Because he had to leave quickly from Dubai, maybe there was some ticketing issue. Because he went where he had to go, but he didn't like the place, so he went somewhere else,” added the PCB chief.

Shaheen has been one of the vital cogs in Pakistan set up in all three formats for the last few years. The premier fast bowler has been among the most prolific wicket-takers for Pakistan in international cricket and has quickly established his credentials as one of the most exciting pacers in the world at present.

How can you even think that PCB can disown Shaheen? Ramiz Raja on Shahid Afridi's shocking statement

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja recently opened up on snapping at an Indian journalist after his team's loss in the Asia Cup 2022 final. The Babar Azam-led side had lost the summit clash against Sri Lanka by 23 runs after failing to chase down the target of 171 runs.

While Pakistan's poor show in the final drew criticism from all corners, one of the biggest talking points was Raja losing his cool at a journalist after the game. The incident happened outside the Dubai International Stadium where reporters were waiting with questions for the PCB chief after Pakistan's loss in the final.

The Indian journalist asked Raja about his views on the Pakistani fans who were disappointed after the defeat. The PCB chief lost his cool on hearing the question and went on to ask the journalist if he was from India. He then snatched the reporter's phone before returning it back.

The clip of the incident had gone viral on social media with the Indian fans lashing out at the PCB chief over his behaviour. Raja opened up about the incident during a Q&A with fans on Pakistan Cricket's official YouTube channel. The PCB chief said the Indian reporter's line of questioning was not right and labelled his questions 'provocative'.

"I'll tell you what happened. The line of questioning was not right. The only point that I had was, the reporter asked that all Pakistan fans are angry with the loss in Asia Cup final, I just asked him how does he know that fans are angry? You are sitting in a different area, so how do you know the fans are unhappy," said Raja.

"These are provocative statements, if you do not have any malice in your heart, it will come through. Anyway, it was just one incident, we shall let it go," he added.

A recent Twitter exchange between Indian star Shubman Gill and his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) has left the fans guessing. Gill played an instrumental role in helping the Titans win their maiden IPL title in their debut campaign last season. However, their recent exchange suggests that batter might be set to leave the franchise.

"It's been a journey to remember. We wish you all the best for your next endeavour, @ShubmanGill," Gujarat Titans wrote in a tweet on Saturday. Gill was quick to respond with a heart and a hug emoji, sparking rumours of his departure. However, there has been no official word from both parties yet.

Fans were left puzzled as they were left guessing after the Twitter exchange between the team and the player. While some suggested it could be a prank or some advertisement, others were quick to speculate about Gill's potential return to his former team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Gill, who made his IPL debut in 2018, was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders for four seasons from 2018 to 2021. He established himself as one of the key members of the KKR squad with his batting exploits on top of the order and was even touted by many as the future captain of the franchise.

However, Gill was surprisingly let go of by KKR last year as he joined debutant Gujarat Titans as one of their marquee players. Gill was brilliant on top of the order for the Titans and went on to notch up 483 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of over 132 to help the Hardik Pandya-led side win the title in what was a memorable campaign for the debutants.

It remains to be seen if Gujarat Titans' message for Gill is ahead of his departure from the franchise. Gill, who has been part of the IPL for five seasons now, has played 74 matches and amassed 1900 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 125.25.
