"People have been saying that our team is quite aged, but you need experience. All credit goes to Dhoni as you can see he is playing freely. In the IPL, he has shown that he can still play very well despite being 35-36," said Suresh Raina, explaining the fact that why IPL team Chennai includes aged players.

As Chennai qualified for play-offs for the ninth time, since IPL's inception, Raina said it is equally important to have experience and cites team's performance in the ongoing league.

Currently, the 'Yellow Brigade' have players above 35 years of age which include — Mahendra Singh Dhoni (36), Shane Watson (36), Dwayne Bravo (34), Harbhajan Singh (37) and Imran Tahir (39).

When asked about their current performance and strategy for the upcoming games, the left-handed batsman said that half work is done by qualifying, but the ultimate goal is to take the golden trophy home.

"Nobody remembers the runner-up. Everybody looks up to the winner. If we win this time, then the harsh memories of the finals that we lost in previous editions of IPL will go away," said Raina.

Altogether in IPL, Chennai have made their way to finals six times, out of which only two times they managed to emerge victoriously.

The star cricketer heaped praise on his current IPL team's skipper MS Dhoni and Indian Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli.

"Having Dhoni with Virat changes the morale of the Indian cricket team. In South Africa, we won the T20s and ODI series. We even defeated them in one Test match," he said.

"Virat is a player, who does not like to lose. In the current scenario, the cricket community in India has become fearless," he added.

Other than Chennai, Hyderabad too qualified for semi-finals with 18 points in IPL.

The finale of IPL 2018 will be played on May 27 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

IPL 2018: Players to watch out for in Chennai vs Hyderabad clash

After suffering a setback from Rajasthan in their last match, Chennai will host table-toppers Hyderabad at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, on Saturday

The Yellow Brigade was defeated by five wickets when they faced Rajasthan at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.

After beginning the eleventh season in cracking fashion, they have lost three games out of their last five and more often than not, it's the bowling that has let them down.&nbsp

&nbspA combined batting effort by Suresh Raina, skipper M.S. Dhoni and opener Shane Watson helped Chennai post a fighting total of 176 against Rajasthan.&nbsp

So far, batsmen are the major reason behind Chennai's success as they have been in top form this season, however, death-over bowling still remains a concern for the franchise.

Most of the batsmen - Ambati Rayudu, Australian Shane Watson, West Indian Dwayne Bravo and Suresh Raina, have contributed whenever the team needed.

Rayudu has batted well both as an opener and at number four, amassing 435 runs from 11 innings.

With 393 runs from 10 innings, Dhoni has also shown glimpses of the past.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who struggled in the first half of the league, emerged with a match-winning figure of 3/18 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The pace attack will once again rely on Lungi Ngidi, David Willey and Shardul Thakur.

Hyderabad, on the other hand, have already sealed a playoff berth and will be eyeing another win to consolidate their position.&nbsp

The Kane Williamson-led side is currently in red-hot form. In their last encounter, Hyderabad hammered Delhi by nine wickets while chasing a massive total of 188 runs.

The orange army is capable of putting huge totals as well as defending low scores.

Overall, its Hyderabad's bowling unit led by the overseas spin twins - Afghan Rashid Khan and Bangladeshi Shakib Al Hasan - who have been instrumental till now.

The spinners have been well supported by the pace department led by fit-again Bhuvneshwar Kumar and young Siddharth Kaul.

Their batting mainly centres around the skipper -- Williamson -- who has repeatedly dug them out of troubled waters, scoring six half-centuries so far in this season.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan, who struggled for runs earlier, got back his touch against Delhi, smashing a 50-ball unbeaten 92, laced with nine fours and four sixes.

However, Alex Hales and Manish Pandey need to shoulder the responsibility in case Williamson fails to deliver.

Overall, it will be another edge of the seat match for fans when the top two teams of the cash-rich league square-off in a crucial tie.

IPL 2018: Ajinkya Rahane-led Rajasthan turns pink to boot cancer out

This will be the first time when Punjab and Rajasthan will come face to face in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018.&nbsp&nbsp

The Ravichandran Ashwin-led team stands at number four with five wins, while the Ajinkya Rahane-led Rajasthan are currently placed at the last position with just three win.&nbsp &nbsp

As the two teams will lock horns today, so, let's take a look at the players expected to perform.

1. Chris Gayle - 'The Universal Boss' has proved that he still has a lot of cricket left in him as he smashed a century and three half-centuries in a total of five IPL games he has played so far for Punjab. Also, he is the second player to hit most sixes, 23, so far. In his last game, he scored 40-ball-50 which included six fours and two sixes. Today the 'Gayle storm' is expected to bring spread his charisma to help his team get back to the winning momentum.&nbsp

2. Jos Buttler - The Rajasthan opener returned to his form in his last game against Delhi. He slammed 67 runs off just 26 balls which included huge seven sixes. Though the team failed to defeat Delhi, still his previous inning definitely makes him a player to watch out for.&nbsp

3. KL Rahul - He is among the top run scorers in IPL so far. But still, he has a long way to go to achieve the orange cap. Today is the day when this opening batsman can score well to make his team win and jump up to top three, as they currently stand at number four. In six games Rahul has scored 292 runs with 60 being his highest.&nbsp

4. D'Arcy Short - The Rajasthan opener scored 25-ball-44 including two fours and four sixes against Delhi. His great innings went in vain as the team couldn't turn in into a win. Today, he'll step down on the ground to lift his team from the bottom in the league table.&nbsp

5. Jaydev Unadkant - So far his performance in IPL has not been at par. But in his previous game, he managed to take three crucial wickets of Delhi. Purchased at a whopping price of Rs 11.5 crore, it is important for him to stand to his billing. His attack and length is good but needs to play with a different technique today to swing wickets in his team's favour.&nbsp

So overall, Punjab, which has an upper hand over Rajasthan, will fight to reach the top three, while Royals will be prepared to defeat the Kings coming their way.&nbsp &nbsp

While achieving a paltry total of 127 runs, Chennai got a decent start with opener Ambati Rayadu contributing 32 runs in 25 balls.

Suresh Raina too made his presence felt by hitting one six and two fours to inch Chennai closer to victory.

But it was Dhoni and Bravo who took the team to victory.

Earlier, Virat Kohli-led Bangalore fell like nine pins after the powerplay as the team ended their innings at just 127, their lowest total in this year's IPL.

At one point Bangalore were 47 for the loss of one wicket, but then lost Kohli, AB and Mandeep to spin in the space of five overs.

Parthiv Patel, who played his first game in IPL 2018, smashed a half-century and also became the top scorer for the team by making 53 runs off 41 balls.

The team could have ended their innings with the lowest score in this year's league before Tim Southee came to their rescue.

He made 36 runs in 26 balls to save his team from drowning and set a decent score on board.

Apart from Patel and Southee, no other player scored in two digits.

Kohli was clean bowled by Ravindra Jadeja while de Villiers gave away his wicket to Harbhajan Singh.

Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl.

Chennai is coming off from a tragic defeat against Kolkata in their previous encounter and must have worked on their loopholes and rectified the errors in order to earn two crucial points.

On the other hand, team Bangalore is high on spirit as they have won the previous match against Mumbai.

The competition between the teams which are placed at the fourth, fifth and sixth position at the league's table is very tough now.

Chennai have lost its two previous clashes out of three and looked a bit off but with a well-balanced team, it requires just one win to prove caliber of the entire team.

On the other hand, confidence Virat Kohli is leading the batting department from the front but still, team Bangalore is dealing with the problems of bowling unit, which has been very expensive especially in death overs.

The current team of Chennai is very sorted and any change at this moment is not required.

On the other hand, the good news for Bangalore is that their star player, AB de Villiers is fit and back in the squad but opener Quinton de Kock has flown back home due to some personal reasons and skipper Virat Kohli might replace him by Manan Vohra.

In the absence of wicket-keeper, the best replacement for team Bangalore is Parthiv Patel.

He made 36 runs in 26 balls to save his team from drowning and set a decent score on board. Apart from Patel and Southee, no other player scored in two digits. Skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers fell succumbed to Chennai's spin attack as Bangalore were put into bat at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, on Saturday. Kohli was clean bowled by Ravindra Jadeja while de Villiers gave away his wicket to Harbhajan Singh. Kohli was departed for eight runs and de Villiers made just one.

IPL 2018: MS Dhoni makes 43* off 25 as Chennai post 177 against Kolkata

Table-topper Chennai is all set to destroy Kolkata's home coming as the two teams lock horns at the Eden Garden on Thursday.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's vintage form has added to their strength and the team would look to continue their winning momentum.

Dhoni has turned back the clock with his last three innings, two of them half centuries, adding to the fine run of imposing all-rounder Shane Watson.

Chennai are currently leading the eight-team table with 12 points from six wins out of eight games.

Both the teams are here on the back of two morale-boosting wins. While Kolkata successfully chased 176 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru.

Chennai also reigned supreme against Delhi at their adopted home in Pune.

Half-centuries from Watson and Dhoni blasted Chennai to its third 200-plus score and then young fast bowlers Lungi Ngidi and KM Asif choked Delhi's chase to hand Chennai its sixth win of the season.

In batting, Watson, who struggled for Bangalore last season, has been a revelation.

Backed by Dhoni, the veteran Australian all-rounder slammed this season's highest score -- 106 -- his fourth T20 hundred.

Ambati Rayudu too has gone about his tasks quietly, be it as an opener or in the middle-order to lead the batting chart with 370 runs.

Then there is Dhoni himself. Dhoni is currently averaging 71.50 with three half-centuries.

His knock of 70 not out from 34 balls to hunt down Virat-Kohli-led side's 205 still remains the talk of the town. The way he sealed the game with his signature swing over wide long on boundary brought back memories of the 2011 World Cup triumph.

In the mid-table with six matches to go, Kolkata cannot afford to lose at Eden Gardens, where they play three more, in their bid to secure a maiden play-off berth under Dinesh Karthik.

Kolkata's campaign, so far, has been hugely dependent on the overseas trio of Chris Lynn, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.

Lynn was the architect of Kolkata's six-wicket win in Bangalore with a restrained knock of 62 not out from 52 balls after he got a reprieve on seven.

The franchise would hope for a strong batting show, especially from Robin Uthappa who is in the middle of a lean patch and is yet to score a half-century.

Teams
Kolkata: Dinesh Karthik (C), Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Nitish Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi, Mitchell Johnson, Shubman Gill, R Vinay Kumar, Rinku Singh, Cameron Delport, Javon Searless, Apoorv Wankhade, Ishank Jaggi, Tom Curran.

Skipper MS Dhoni led his team from the front to defeat Delhi in yesterday's game in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Chennai skipper was supported by another brilliant batsman&nbspAmbati Rayudu, who once again impressed with the bat yesterday.

But it was something else which made the match a memorable one.&nbsp

On Monday, Dhoni and Rayudu were again at it, adding 79 runs in just six overs to reach a step closer to victory over Delhi.&nbsp

However, on the penultimate ball of Chennai innings, an incident took place that led to a laugh riot.

Trent Boult, bowling the last over for Delhi, delivered a bouncer to Dhoni who went for a pull-shot.&nbsp

The skipper only managed to get a slight edge with Rishabh Pant putting down a tough chance down the leg side.

Between all this, Rayudu decided to sneak in a single but Dhoni was not aware of it. &nbsp

The Chennai skipper was supported by another brilliant batsman Ambati Rayudu

Skipper MS Dhoni led his team from the front to defeat Delhi in yesterday's game in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The Chennai skipper was supported by another brilliant batsman&nbspAmbati Rayudu, who once again impressed with the bat yesterday. But it was something else which made the match a memorable one. On Monday, Dhoni and Rayudu were again at it, adding 79 runs in just six overs to reach a step closer to victory over Delhi. However, on the penultimate ball of Chennai innings, an incident took place that led to a laugh riot. Trent Boult, bowling the last over for Delhi, delivered a bouncer to Dhoni who went for a pull-shot. The skipper only managed to get a slight edge with Rishabh Pant putting down a tough chance down the leg side. Between all this, Rayudu decided to sneak in a single but Dhoni was not aware of it. The 30th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played between confident Chennai and resurgent Delhi on Monday.

Tipped to possess the most destructive batting lineup this season, Delhi have found the going tough and have lost five out of seven whereas Chennai, ridiculed as an 'old outfit', have just done the exact opposite to be placed second with ten points.

Chennai have been ruthless this season managing to win five out of seven matches played. But if we talk about the two teams, then after Gautam Gambhir decided to step down as captain, the resurgent Delhi defeated Kolkata by 55 runs.

Opener Prithvi Shaw and new skipper Shreyas Iyer smashed a half-century each to set a mammoth total of 219.

But, Iyer has to plan new strategies to survive this IPL and especially to defeat Chennai today.

The bowlers also performed against Kolkata with Trent Boult, Avesh Khan and Amit Mishra taking two wickets apiece.

Delhi will have to bowl out of their skin if they want to restrict the star-studded Chennai batting line-up to a paltry total.

Chennai, on the other hand, would be equally keen to get back to winning ways after they lost their last match to Mumbai by 8 wickets.

Ambati Raydu and Suresh Raina made 45 and 75 runs respectively to help Chennai seta decent score.

And Dhoni needs to fix this problem to defeat rejuvenated Delhi.
