IPL 2018: MS Dhoni wins toss, opts to bowl against Virat Kohli-led Bangalore

Defending champions Mumbai will be up against Hyderabad for the second time in this year's IPL. Their first encounter was won by one wicket.

Both the teams will try all the cards under their sleeves to emerge out as victorious in this match for sure.

So let us take a look at the top players to watch out for in today's game.

1. Suryakumar Yadav: He has been Mumbai's most successful and consistent batsman ever since the beginning of the season. Yadav, who played for Kolkata in 2017, has displayed a totally different game than what he had last year. Having compiled 196 runs from five innings with an impressive strike rate of 140, he is definitely among the players to watch out for in today's game.

2. Rohit Sharma: The Mumbai skipper, who shelved his poor form with a thundering 52-ball 94, will be all set to spread some magic on the ground for his franchise. Given his track record and capabilities, fans are expecting a quality performance from him in this match. Rohit, who has not done justice to his playing abilities so far in IPL, would also be very determined to deliver the same.

3. Kane Williamson: The Hyderabad skipper has been in red-hot form for the franchise. Or to say is more directly, he is the backbone of the batting line-up of Hyderabad. Having amassed a total of 230 runs with an average of 57.50, Williamson has scored three consecutive fifties in his last three outings.

4. Rashid Khan: The Afghanistan tweaker is yet to repeat what he had done for his franchise in 2017. He made his debut in the IPL last year and got 17 wickets from 14 matches at an average of 21.05. But his bowling figures in this season so far are nowhere near to his previous season's performance. Khan has four wickets from five matches averaging at 42.75, almost double compared to the last season.

5. Krunal Pandya: The Mumbai batsman has performed decently in IPL so far. But it will be important for him to perform at his home ground. Krunal is one of those batsmen who can single-handedly snatch the match from the opponent's jaws. Hence, his calibre makes him the player to watch out for in today's clash against Hyderabad.

Diesel prices hit their highest in India since 2013 after they were hiked for a sixth consecutive day.

The prices of diesel and petrol were hiked effective Tuesday morning across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

Petrol prices reached Rs 74.40 a litre, while diesel rates touched Rs 65.65, the highest-ever since May 2014 in Delhi, according to Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).

In Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai petrol prices climbed to new highs of Rs 77.10, Rs 82.25 and Rs 77.19 respectively.

Diesel prices in the three cities touched record highs of Rs. 65.65, Rs. 68.35, Rs. 69.91 and Rs. 69.27 respectively.

The petrol and diesel prices across the country are revised on a day to day revisions by state-run oil marketing companies which is determined by international crude oil price.

The rise in crude oil prices is due to the ongoing supply cut of oil by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), coupled with a strong global demand for crude causing a hike in petrol and diesel prices in India.

Chasing a mammoth 183 runs target, Hyderabad team fought hard but in the end, lost to Chennai by mere four runs.&nbsp

Kane Williamson played a skipper's knock and slammed 84 runs but Bravo defended 19 off the last over to give Chennai the win.&nbsp

Williamson reignited the Hyderabad's chase but lost his wicket to Bravo while trying to hit a six.&nbsp

Yusuf Pathan, who was at the other end with Williamson, too tried to hit a six but gave away his wicket to Thakur after making 45 runs off 27 balls.

Opener Ricky Bhui, who replaced injured Shikhar Dhawan, failed to contribute and was sent back to the pavilion without opening his account. &nbsp

Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina slammed a half-century each to help Chennai set a decent target against Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 on Saturday.

Raydu slammed a powerful 37-ball 79 while Raina made 54 runs off 43 balls to lift Chennai to 182 runs after a loss of three wickets.

Raydu got run-out in a dramatic turn of event on the ground while Raina remained unbeaten.

Chennai Skipper MS Dhoni too contributed crucial 25 runs off just 12 balls.

Earlier, Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bowl in their clash against Chennai at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Playing at their home ground, Hyderabad will look to regain the winning momentum. After winning three matches in a row, Hyderabad tasted their first defeat in this year's IPL from Punjab.

However, in today's game Hyderabad entered the ground without Shikhar Dhawan. &nbsp

"Billy Stanlake comes in for CJ and Ricky Bhui makes his debut, comes in for Shikhar. He (Dhawan) adds to any team so his inclusion would be good. It's a good chance for Ricky who's an exciting young talent. Think Shikhar will be ready for the next match. It's always a tough game. We'll play at the best of our ability and I am sure it'll be another good game," he added.

Meanwhile, Chennai skipper MS Dhoni said, "So far so good. It's not like we are relying on one individual. Everyone has contributed when it comes to bowling or batting. We always want the whole team to contribute so that there's not much pressure on one individual."

"It's always important that's why you are playing a team sport. The job of every individual becomes easy. What is important is someone soaks up the pressure. Imran Tahir is not fit so Faf comes his place."

R Ashwin's Punjab face a big challenge in the form of Hyderabad, who are yet to face a defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018.

Punjab defeated determined Chennai by mere four runs to give MS Dhoni his first loss in the tournament.&nbsp

Batsman Chris Gayle was mighty effective against Chennai at Mohali on Sunday, where he scored a blistering 63 runs from just 33 balls.

His innings included four sixes and seven fours. Considering that it was his first match in this year's IPL, he showed the world why he is still the most destructive in the world.&nbsp

His form was not less than a warning to other franchises to be aware of the Jamaican cricketer.

Gayle would be looking to continue his sublime form but his past record against Hyderabad in the previous editions, he hasn’t fared very well.&nbsp

He boasts of a strike-rate of 151.72 in nine innings, but has only managed to score 220 runs at an average of 24.44.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad is having a ball in the IPL. Their batsman are in terrific form. In the played three matches, either Shikhar Dhawan or skipper Kane Williamson have managed to stood up for the team in order to set a mammoth target.

The bowling attack of Hyderabad has been outstanding and is capable to deplete any batting attack.&nbsp

The visiting side is unlikely to tinker with the combination that has given them three wins.&nbsp

Sandeep Sharma only got a game against Mumbai Indians due to an injury to Bhuvneshar Kumar.

&nbspHowever, once the lead pacer was fit, Sandeep had to make way despite a good showing. SRH are likely to remain unchanged for the game.

Punjab, on the other hand, may bring Manoj Tiwary to replace Yuvraj Singh, who has looked off colour.&nbsp

Other than the two, the middle and lower order batsmen failed to contribute much.

While Yuvraj was sent back to the pavilion after making just 20 runs, Aaron finch again failed to open his account after being LBW by Tahir.

MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to field first against Ashwin-led Punjab.

IPL 2018: Punjab set 198-run target after being put in to bat by Chennai

Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai, who have had a four-day break since their thrilling win in Chennai, will today take on Punjab, who lost to Bangalore in their most-recent outing.

Punjab have one win and one loss so far. Despite the loss, one expects they will not make too many changes to the team that took the field on Friday night.&nbsp

The team got off to a blazing start, but suffered setbacks after losing wickets in clusters that’s something they will try to avoid.

Chennai, on the other hand, have clinched wins from the clutches of their opponents twice now, and they will want to put in a much improved performance.&nbsp

Against Mumbai, Bravo’s end-overs pyrotechnics took them across the line. While against Kolkata, it was Sam Billings who did the rescue job.&nbsp

Chennai have been forced to reorganise first Kedar Jadhav suffered an injury and was ruled out of the rest of the season, and now Suresh Raina has been ruled out for at least two matches.&nbsp

The injury to Raina could mean an opening for Murali Vijay – who is now fully fit and available for selection, and possibly a move down the order for Ambati Rayudu.

Chennai also have experienced players like Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu.&nbsp

The bowlers were under the pump in the previous game but that was on a track that offered them little and the team would rather dwell on the better bowling performance against Punjab.

Punjab, on the other hand, have been well-served by the spin duo of Ashwin and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who have picked up key wickets and have also helped in the containment bit.

Yuvraj Singh's form remains a concern for the team while Mayank Agarwal hasn't been able to replicate his tremendous domestic success. &nbsp

Giving a chance to Chris Gayle may work for the Punjab side.

Probable XI: KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Aaron Finch, Yuvraj Singh, Karun Nair, Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin (c), Andrew Tye, Mohit Sharma, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.&nbsp

Probable XI: Shane Watson, Murali Vijay, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c), Sam Billings, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, Shardul Thakur.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai, who have had a four-day break since their thrilling win in Chennai, will today take on Punjab, who lost to Bangalore in their most-recent outing. Punjab have one win and one loss so far. Despite the loss, one expects they will not make too many changes to the team that took the field on Friday night. The team got off to a blazing start, but suffered setbacks after losing wickets in clusters that’s something they will try to avoid. Chennai, on the other hand, have clinched wins from the clutches of their opponents twice now, and they will want to put in a much improved performance. Against Mumbai, Bravo’s end-overs pyrotechnics took them across the line. While against Kolkata, it was Sam Billings who did the rescue job. Chennai have been forced to reorganise first Kedar Jadhav suffered an injury and was ruled out of the rest of the season, and now Suresh Raina has been ruled out for at least two matches. The injury to Raina could mean an opening for Murali Vijay – who is now fully fit and available for selection, and possibly a move down the order for Ambati Rayudu. Chennai also have experienced players like Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu. This is another blow to Chennai team as all-rounder Kedar Jadhav has already been ruled out of the tournament on Monday, due to a hamstring injury.

Faf du Plessis is still recovering from recovering from a slight side strain. Meanwhile, Murli Vijay can find his way back to the playing XI.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Chennai, actor Kamal Haasan released a video on Twitter where he sought justice for Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery issue.

"People of Tamil Nadu are fighting for justice. Justice has been given but it is not being executed. People have started to believe that this delay is due to Karnataka elections, and your interest in it. I want this belief to be dispelled for people are more important than elections," Haasan said in his video.

"With your previous experiment with Narmada Water Authority, you could easily deliver the justice that Tamil Nadu is asking," Haasan said. "Please do justice with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka," he added in nearly 2-minute-long video.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hit out at the previous UPA government for "policy paralysis" in the defence sector and told foreign companies that it will not take a decade to take a decision on procurement of a batch of 110 fighter jets.

In his address after inaugurating the four-day Defence Expo here, Modi said "laziness, incompetence or perhaps some hidden motives" of the previous government had badly impacted the defence sector.

Policy paralysis in the defence sector during the previous regime had affected the country's military preparedness, the prime minister said, adding that the NDA government's efforts to build a partnership with defence industries will be guided by the "highest ideals of integrity and probity".

"There was a time when the critical issue of defence preparedness was hampered by policy paralysis. We have seen the damage such laziness, incompetence or perhaps some hidden motives can cause to the nation. Not now, not anymore, never," he said.

Modi also took a dig at the UPA regime for failing to conclude a deal to procure 126 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) after a long-drawn selection process.

"You would also recall the long-drawn process of procurement of fighter aircraft that never reached any conclusion. We have not only taken bold action to meet our immediate critical requirements, but have also initiated a new process to procure 110 fighter aircraft. We do not want to spend 10 years in discussions without any tangible outcomes," he said.

The government last week began the process to procure around 110 fighter jets by issuing an RFI (Request for Information) or initial tender. It is the first mega procurement initiative for fighter jets after the government scrapped the process to acquire 126 MMRCA for the Indian Air Force about five years ago.

"We will work with you with a sense of mission to keep our defence forces equipped with state-of-the-art systems, and to create the necessary domestic manufacturing ecosystem to achieve this. And, in all our efforts to pursue efficiency and effectiveness in partnership with you, we will be guided by the highest ideals of integrity and probity," he said.

Following scrapping of the MMRCA deal, the NDA government in September 2016 signed a Euro 7.87 billion (approx Rs 59,000 crore) deal with the French government for the purchase of 36 Rafale twin-engine fighter jets.

Ramping up its attack on the government over the Rafale issue, the Congress claims that the deal negotiated under its rule was much cheaper than the contract signed by the Modi government to procure the Rafale jets.

The UPA government floated a tender in 2007 for the purchase of 126 MMRCA for the Air Force. After negotiations, only Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon remained in the reckoning. However, the deal could not be finalised by the UPA regime

Modi said the government was committed to making India a leading manufacturer of defence equipment and building two defence industrial corridors, "with room for everyone".

"We are committed to establishing two defence industrial corridors: one in Tamil Nadu and other in Uttar Pradesh. These will utilize defence manufacturing ecosystems in the regions and further build upon it. The corridors will become engines of economic development and growth of defence industrial base," he said.

Modi said venture capital and start-ups in defence sector will be encouraged.
