Chahar has been named in India's ODI and T20I squads but will join the national team&nbsp;only&nbsp;after his father's health improves. Chahar marked a return to the T20I setup for the first time since October 2022 during India's&nbsp;five-match T20Is versus&nbsp;Australia, at home, which they won 4-1.</p>

<p>Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin picked one name that CSK is likely&nbsp;to chase at the upcoming IPL 2024 mini-auction scheduled in Dubai on Tuesday (Dec 19), and it’s not the ‘apparent finisher’ Shahrukh Khan.</p>

<p>“I have a feeling that they will invest in Karun Nair. They are searching for a replacement for Ambati Rayudu. Shahrukh is not a replacement for him at No. 4. I have no idea who they are going to play in that position this season.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>“They might try a left-hand option, but if you look at CSK’s track record, they have never gone for an unknown commodity. They have never played anybody who just did well in their first season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” Ashwin explained.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO&nbsp;Kasi Viswanathan has said MS Dhoni will fulfil his promise to play in the 2024 season after the five-time champions retained him during the retention window that expired on Sunday (Nov 26).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The former Indian skipper has been nursing a wobbly knee for some time and played through the 2023 title-winning season with pain.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If our leader has given a word, he has never gone back. He already told what he was planning to do in that interview," Viswanathan said in a video shared by CSK.</p>

<p>"I am sure that knowing MS, he will always do what he has committed to do. He is quite fit. Thalaivan is thalaivan (our leader is our leader)," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dhoni underwent knee surgery at Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital&nbsp;after the end of the last IPL season but speculations remained that he might skip next edition.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, CSK retaining him sent a message to the fans that the prized player was set to return for one final hurrah.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chennai Super Kings suffered a huge blow in the lead-up to the upcoming season as their star all-rounder, Ben Stokes, decided to opt out of IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness, with the franchise 'in support of his decision'.&nbsp;CSK, who recently was said to take a call on Stokes’ future in the franchise owing to his knee-related issues, for which he is sure to undergo surgery, will now be without their most expensive purchase in the tournament history.</p>

<p>Bought for a whopping INR 16.25 crore (US$ 1.98 million approx. at the time) ahead of the IPL 2023, Stokes played just two matches for the CSK, scoring 15 runs in total and bowling just one over. Stokes played as a specialist batter but failed to contribute enough in the franchise’s record joint-most winning campaign.</p>

<p>Although Stokes’ knee issue had been a cause of concern for him for some time now, it flared up during the New Zealand series in February last year, with CSK coach Stephen Fleming admitting waiting for Stokes to get ‘100% fit’ before asking him to bowl.</p>

Though he was among the two centurions (including Dawid Malan), the 2019 title holders had a torrid run, losing six out of the nine contested matches. With two fifties (against Australia and Pakistan) and a hundred against the Netherlands, Stokes amassed 304 runs, averaging 50.66.</p>

<h2>Stokes to undergo surgery on troubled left knee</h2>

<p>Even during the fag end of the tournament, Stokes confirmed his decision to go under the knife on his troubled left knee. Following the surgery, Stokes would remain on the sidelines and continue with the rehab. Considering England would tour India in January for five Tests, Stokes'&nbsp;participation remains under question.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I've put a lot of hard work in away from cricket to give myself the best chance of a quicker recovery, and with Christmas and everything coming up, the main thing for me is getting this knee right and being ready and raring to go for that Test series in India," Stokes had said after England's last game at the World Cup.</p>

<p>Rayudu recently tasted success with Chennai Super Kings, winning the IPL 2023 by beating defending champions Gujarat Titans in a rain-hit, three-day stretched Final at&nbsp;Ahmedabad in May. On the day of the IPL 2023 Final, Rayudu informed everyone about his decision to retire from all forms of the game via social media.</p>

<p>Kasi Viswanathan, Chennai Super Kings CEO, revealed that captain MS Dhoni didn’t consider missing a single IPL game this season due to his troubled knee. After the final, he said, 'okay, I'll have a surgery.' He's finished his surgery, he's quite happy, he's recovering,” Kasi added.</p>

<h2>‘He knows what to do’ – Kasi on MS Dhoni</h2>

<p>After helping his team lift the IPL trophy for a record fifth time, joint-most with Mumbai Indians, MS Dhoni, during the post-match presser, was again asked about his future, to which he replied&nbsp;that he would like to return for one more season next year&nbsp;for the love he got from the fans though&nbsp;announcing his retirement at this&nbsp;stage would be an ideal thing.</p>

<p>Talking about MS'&nbsp;plans, Kasi said Dhoni informed the head management about him undergoing rehab following his knee surgery in Mumbai and not considering playing any competitive cricket at least until January next year.</p>

<p>"Actually, he told us immediately after the final is over, he'll fly to Mumbai, have surgery and go back to Ranchi for rehab," Viswanathan said. "In Mumbai, after Ruturaj's wedding [on June 4], I visited him. It was a courtesy call. He's quite comfortable. He said he'll rest for three weeks and then start his rehab. And like he said, he's not going to play until January-February. We don't need to remind him about all that."</p>

<p>"He knows what to do, how to go about it, so we aren't going to ask him 'What are you going to do, how' etc. He will inform us on his own. Whatever he's doing, he'll call first and inform only Mr N Srinivasan, not anyone else. Factually, he'll be straightforward with him. From him, we'll get the information that this is what he's doing. After a lengthy delay due to rain and wet outfield, the match resumed at 12:10 AM IST with a revised target; 171 in 15-over contest.&nbsp;Both Ruturaj and Devon Conway started off on a positive note, slamming the pacers while also attacking Rashid Khan in his first over.</p>

<p>Ruturaj fell for a 16-ball 26 before Conway followed suit (for a 25-ball 47) but struck some flawless boundaries prior to his fall. Noor Ahmad (2 for 17 in three&nbsp;overs) removed both the openers but Ajinkya Rahane announced his arrival with two sublime sixes.</p>

<p>The chase was on. While Dube struggled, Rahane got the boundaries to keep a check on the required run rate. His cameo, 13-ball 27, ended with Mohit Sharma outfoxing him with CSK in need of 54 off 25 balls. With Dube not connecting it well, he finally got going with two big sixes off Rashid and managed to keep CSK alive.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Rayudu, playing his last IPL match, attacked Mohit from the word go. Bringing the equation down to 22 off 14, Rayudu (8-ball 19) fell caught and bowled with Dhoni coming out to bat.&nbsp;He fell for a first-ball duck as Mohit's twin strikes dented CSK in the 13th over.</p>
