Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Ambati Rayudu has wished for Rohit Sharma to join the MS Dhoni-led Yellow Army ahead of the IPL 2025 season. At present, all the ten IPL franchises are gearing up for IPL 2024 which gets underway on March 22 in Chennai. Before the season-opener, Rayudu wished for Rohit to become a part of CSK, MI's arch-rivals, from the 2025 season onwards and win titles with them as well. Rohit was replaced by Hardik Pandya as the MI skipper for IPL 2024, in Dec 2023, and will feature only as a player in the upcoming season.

MI's move to replace Rohit with Hardik raised a lot of eyebrows. It will be interesting to see how he fits under captain Hardik and if the latter can replicate his success in MI, IPL's joint-most successful franchise. After winning four titles with Rohit-led MI, Hardik moved to the Gujarat Titans (GT) and captained them in 2022 and 2023, leading them to the final in successive editions and winning in 2022.

However, it will be interesting to see how Hardik manages a star-studded MI line-up in IPL 2024. Also, all eyes will be on Rohit who will only feature as a batter this time around. Meanwhile, Rayudu -- who has won the IPL both under MI and CSK -- feels Rohit should move to Chennai in the coming years and increase his trophy count. Here's why:

It's his call on whether or not he wants to lead or not," Rayudu told News24 while also mentioning that MI must have informed Rohit of the captaincy change.

At present, there are no talks of Rohit willing to make a move from MI. The IPL 2024 season will give a clear picture of how he still fits into MI's scheme of things, without the leadership tag. He has won the IPL six times, five as MI captain. Hence, he remains a big name in their setup. Nonetheless, if things aren't quite right for him in the dugout, he might make a move elsewhere (which will certainly grab a lot of eyeballs). If he replaces Dhoni as CSK captain going ahead, it will surely be a big development in the IPL and add a new chapter in the MI-CSK rivalry.

Despite being an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), all-rounder Moeen Ali is unaware of captain MS Dhoni's plans for him in the upcoming season.

The 17th edition of IPL gets underway on March 22 with Chennai Super Kings squaring up against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Moeen will be playing his fourth season with the successful franchise.

'Don't know what he'll come up with': CSK all-rounder Moeen Ali on MS Dhoni's plans

Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa has advised Rishabh Pant to not rush his comeback ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 edition, which gets underway on March 22. Pant has worked hard on regaining full fitness after a horrific car crash in Dec 2022. Since then, he has been away from action and will mark his return to competitive cricket during the forthcoming season. DC franchise has already announced that the swashbuckling left-hander will return as the captain but won't keep wickets during the first half at least.

'Pant shouldn’t rush the process'

Ahead of Pant's much-awaited return, Uthappa told in an interview with InsideSport, "Well as far as Rishabh Pant is concerned, it all depends on his fitness and how he recovers from what has been a tough year and a half for him. I think, we should send all those energies to him that he recovers and comes back to his best. It’s good to see He’s back in the nets, he’s hitting the ball well, doing centre wicketkeeping practice. He shouldn’t rush the process."

IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant should not rush his comeback - Former CSK star's advice to DC captain

Former Indian stumper Parthiv Patel feels only MS Dhoni can put an end to the speculations regarding his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ahead of IPL 2024, which kicks off on March 22 in Chennai, there is massive hype regarding Dhoni's stint in competitive cricket. Moreover, the upcoming season can be the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain's last appearance in the cash-rich league, hence, the craze regarding his comeback has escalated further.

With the hype building around Dhoni, Parthiv feels that the chatter around the 42-year-old's potential IPL retirement is only set to grow further in the coming days.

"Coming off to play once every 10 months, every time we end up talking about these two months being his (Dhoni) last of cricket...This is a question that only he can answer," Parthiv told JioCinema.

Parthiv also stressed that the upcoming IPL season will once again test Dhoni the batter, who plays cricket only twice a year now. Last year, he ended with only 104 runs at an average of 26 but played an impactful role down the order, striking at 182.46.

In this regard, Parthiv added, "Over the course of these sixteen IPL seasons, we have seen big names who have not played a lot of domestic or any other format of cricket, end up struggling in the tournament...We have seen it happen with players like Mathew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist."

Dube was involved in a vital 44-run third-wicket stand with Tilak Varma (26) and added another 45 with Jitesh Sharma (31) before finishing the game in style. After the game, he credited learnings from MS Dhoni, with whom he shared the dressing room in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp during IPL 2023. Dube was quoted as saying on Jio Cinema, "It felt very good to get a good opportunity. I was keeping myself ready to not miss an opportunity. When I came to bat, I wanted to finish the match. I learned it from Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni), I wanted to finish the match well."
Chennai Super Kings batter (CSK) Ambati Rayudu retired from the IPL last year, leaving behind a spot to be filled ahead of this season. Record winner Ambati Rayudu opens up on IPL journey, picks CSK over MI as special team

Chennai Super Kings suffered a huge blow in the lead-up to the upcoming season as their star all-rounder, Ben Stokes, decided to opt out of IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness, with the franchise 'in support of his decision'. CSK, who recently was said to take a call on Stokes’ future in the franchise owing to his knee-related issues, for which he is sure to undergo surgery, will now be without their most expensive purchase in the tournament history.

Bought for a whopping INR 16.25 crore (US$ 1.98 million approx. at the time) ahead of the IPL 2023, Stokes played just two matches for the CSK, scoring 15 runs in total and bowling just one over.
Although Stokes’ knee issue had been a cause of concern for him for some time now, it flared up during the New Zealand series in February last year, with CSK coach Stephen Fleming admitting waiting for Stokes to get ‘100% fit’ before asking him to bowl.

Chennai Super Kings' Ben Stokes opts out of IPL 2024, franchise 'in support of his decision'

England all-rounder Ben Stokes is set to be released by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a little more than a year after acquiring his services at the mini-auction, according to Crizbuzz. Stokes was bought by the five-time champions for a hefty fee of $1.98 million (Rs 16.25 crore).

Stokes' exclusion from the CSK squad is likely based on his unavailability for the 2024 season. After the end of a disastrous World Cup campaign with England, Stokes revealed that he will have to undergo surgery on his left knee which will require at least a two-month recovery period.

The CSK hierarchy is unwilling to take chances of Stokes turning up fine for the league, scheduled for March-May 2024. Notably, communication between CSK and Stokes' camp has been inconclusive even after the South Indian side approached the former England captain.

"We would not consider releasing Stokes if he could be available because he is a big match player, and we hold him in the highest regard. But if he can't make it to the season, we will have blocked Rs 16 crore with which we could acquire some quality players," a CSK official was quoted as saying by the publication.

Stokes' CSK inclusion

At the time of the auction, Stokes' inclusion in the CSK squad was seen as a future move with many pundits naming him as the successor of MS Dhoni. There were widespread rumours that Dhoni would hang up his boots at the end of the campaign last year. However, after CSK won the trophy, it appears that Dhoni would give another year of his services to CSK.

While CSK won the title, Stokes only played two games in the season which was marred by injuries. While any other team would have felt Stokes' absence, CSK went on to lift another title, beating Gujarat Titans in the final.

Former India skipper MS Dhoni provided a crucial update on whether or not he'll be returning to the next season of Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, who had gone under the knife after winning the title last season, offered the insight at an event in Bengaluru on October 26.

“Knee has survived the operation, going through the rehab patch, the doctor told me you would feel much better by November. But no problem in day-to-day routine,” said the 42-year-old. Shall he decide to return, it will be Dhoni's 17th IPL season after starting out in 2008 during the inaugural season of the cash-rich league.

A lot depends on the body, I have 6-7 months to decide. It will be more like a gift from my side, it's not easy for me but that's a gift. The way they've shown their love and affection, I think that's something I need to do for them," he had said.

Dhoni taught me to how to perform well in T20 cricket - Matheesha Pathirana

Former India captain MS Dhoni underwent surgery on his troubling knee following the end of IPL 2023. MS Dhoni's wife, Sakshi Dhoni, in a recent interaction with a set of fans during a movie screening, provided the latest update.

It's fair to say the grit and unwavering dedication MS Dhoni showed throughout the tournament while playing with the troubled knee is commendable. A fighter at heart, Dhoni, ensured he remained available for the team but also captained his side to the joint-most fifth IPL title, beating Gujarat Titans in a three-day rain-hit final in Ahmedabad.

Even during the tournament that many thought to be his last as a professional cricketer, Dhoni decided to keep his cards (retirement plans) close to his chest and instead gave his beloved fans a glimmer of hope of watching him return to the field for one last time next season in IPL 2024.

MS Dhoni shares a great rapport with several current Indian players. Often, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and the likes have expressed their gratitude towards the former Indian captain for guiding them during their early days. Since 2018, Dhoni's relationship with Deepak Chahar has also been talked about. The two have been playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since their readmission in the Indian Premier League in 2018 and share a great camaraderie on and outside the field.

While Chahar is Dhoni's go-to-bowler, especially, in the early overs, he has improved bowling at the death as well under his Chennai captain's guidance.
The final match against England

Batting first, Indian cricket team registered a total of 129 in the rain-interrupted final of the 2013 Champions Trophy. Relentless rain in Birmingham had forced the sides to play 20 overs each. Virat Kohli emerged as India's highest scorer with a fine knock of 43 off 34 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja contributed significantly by pulling off a vital innings of 33 not out. With three wickets to his name, Ravi Bopara emerged as England’s best bowler.

England, during the run chase, lost four wickets for just 46 runs. Ravi Bopara and Eoin Morgan weathered the storm by stitching a solid partnership of 64. Ishant Sharma, eventually, provided the most crucial breakthrough by dismissing Morgan for 33. Ishant Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two wickets each to restrict the England cricket team to 124. Jadeja was adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round performance.

CSK celebrate 10th anniversary of Team India’s Champions Trophy victory

MS Dhoni played the entire IPL 2023 edition with a knee injury. Battling fitness issues, the 41-year-old legendary player led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with aplomb, came up with some vital runs down the order, marshalled his troops really well to lead the Yellow Army to their fifth title with a five-wicket win in the season finale, where they beat defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on May 30.

After the win, Dhoni stated that he will work hard to try and come back in IPL 2024 for his ardent fans, who came in large numbers in every game featuring CSK as it was believed to be the Chennai skipper's last season. Dhoni underwent knee surgery in Mumbai soon after IPL 2023's conclusion and is expected to rest till the end of this year before he feels ready to resume training once again. At present, nothing can be said about his availability for IPL 2024. Amid all this, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan provided a vital update.

"We aren't going to ask him 'what are you going to do, how' etc."

Viswanathan told ESPNCricinfo, "Actually, he told us immediately after the final is over, he'll fly to Mumbai, have surgery and go back to Ranchi for rehab. In Mumbai, after Ruturaj's wedding [on June 4], I visited him. It was a courtesy call. He's quite comfortable. He said he'll rest for three weeks and then start his rehab. And like he said, he's not going to play until January-February. We don't need to remind him about all that."

Will MS Dhoni turn up for IPL 2024? CSK CEO provides update on legendary player's availability

Kasi Viswanathan, Chennai Super Kings CEO, revealed that captain MS Dhoni didn’t consider missing a single IPL game this season due to his troubled knee. Kasi further said that 'captain cool' never complained about it to anyone throughout the season, and it was only after winning the title against Gujarat Titans when Dhoni informed the management about him going under the knife.

Kasi added none from the management asked MS to take a call on his troubled knee during the tournament, knowing MS would rest himself if it needed to be. The long-serving boss of IPL’s most famous franchise showered praises on CSK’s oldest player, saying despite going through the pain, Dhoni stood by his team and showed commitment, for which he needs to get appreciated.

"We never asked him things like 'do you want to play or do you want to sit out.' If he can't, he would've told us straightaway," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told ESPNcricinfo Tamil in an interview. "We knew it was a struggle for him to play, but his commitment to the team, his leadership and how the team benefits everyone knows. From that perspective, you have to appreciate him."

MS Dhoni didn't consider missing a single IPL game due to troubled knee, reveals CSK's CEO

After leading Chennai Super Kings to a dream run in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, MS Dhoni is enjoying a vacation in his hometown Ranchi. Dhoni recently became the first player to lead a franchise in over 200 matches in the IPL. The World Cup-winning skipper also emerged as the first cricketer in the history of the tournament to feature in 250 games. Chennai Super Kings, under the leadership of Dhoni, got the better of Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final to lift the trophy for a record-equaling fifth time. The Chennai-based franchise touched Mumbai Indians’ record of five IPL titles. Following a stellar outing in the tournament, Dhoni seems to be making full use of his free time and having some fun moments with his friends and relatives. The official Instagram handle of Whistle Podu Army, the fan club of the Chennai-based franchise, shared a picture in which Dhoni can be seen sporting a colourful outfit. “Recent picture of Thala in Ranchi,” the caption read. ‘Champion for life’: Former India spinner pens heartfelt note for MS Dhoni

IPL 2023 edition ended in the early hours on Tuesday (May 30) with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerging on top of defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) to win their fifth title overall. MS Dhoni & Co. ended second in the points table after the end of the league stage before being the first team to enter the final with a win in Qualifier 1. In the summit clash, they won by five wickets (DLS method) in a rain-marred contest.

Opting to bowl first, the Yellow Army were in for a leather hunt as GT rode on Shubman Gill's 39 (20), Wriddhiman Saha's 39-ball 54, and Sai Sudharsan's 96 (47) to post 214/4. In reply, CSK needed 171 in 15 overs, after a lengthy rain break, and chased down the score courtesy of quickfire knocks from Ruturaj Gaikwad (16-ball 26), Devon Conway's 25-ball 47, Ajinkya Rahane's 13-ball 27, Shivam Dube's 32* (21), Ambati Rayudu's 8-ball 18 and Ravindra Jadeja's 6-ball 15*.

Recently, former Pakistan captain and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja reviewed the recently-concluded IPL season and said it will be remembered for the 'colour yellow and for MS Dhoni'. He heaped praises on the Indian legend and said his 'humility, captaincy and calmness will be remembered for ages'.

There cannot be a bigger compliment for MS Dhoni," Ramiz said on his YouTube channel.

Fans gathered in large numbers in every CSK game to catch a glimpse of Dhoni, who most believe played his last season. However, after winning the final, Dhoni said he will aim to play in the next edition if his body permits.

His humility, captaincy and calmness will be remembered for ages: Ramiz Raja lauds MS Dhoni

IPL 2023 final ended in the early hours on Tuesday (May 30) with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerging on top of defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in a rain-marred contest. Being asked to bat first, Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat rode on Shubman Gill's 39 (20), Wriddhiman Saha's 39-ball 54 and Sai Sudharsan's 47-ball 96 to post 214 for 4. In reply, CSK's run-chase was halted for more than two hours due to rain and a wet outfield. After play resumed, CSK needed 171 in 15 overs.

Chennai rode on a bright start from Ruturaj Gaikwad (16-ball 26) and Devon Conway (25-ball 47) before cameos from Ajinkya Rahane (13-ball 27), Shivam Dube (21-ball 32 not out), Ambati Rayudu's 8-ball 18 and Ravindra Jadeja's 6-ball 15 propelled them to a stunning five-wicket win (DLS method) to clinch their fifth IPL title overall, most along with arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI).

Recently, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar blamed Hardik Pandya for GT losing the battle as his talk, along with head coach Ashish Nehra's message from the dugout, disrupted Mohit Sharma's flow in the last over when he made the equation tougher for CSK, needing 10 from 2 balls after they required 13 off last 6 balls.

"He (Mohit) had bowled the first 3-4 delivery absolutely brilliantly. Then, for some strange reason, some water was sent to him. In the middle of the over, some drink was sent to him. Then Hardik Pandya came and spoke with him," Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.
