MS Dhoni, once again, thrilled the crowd and billions watching on TV with his whirlwind knock against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday (April 19) in IPL 2024, and CSK’s head coach Stephen Fleming is not surprised by it. Per Fleming, MS Dhoni’s batting during the pre-season training and even during the tournament, with a strike rate of a whopping 255, has been crisp. However, his troubling knee has restricted him from coming earlier despite being in terrific form. Chennai might have suffered an eight-wicket defeat against Lucknow at Ekana - their second loss in three away contested matches thus far; the fans in attendance witnessed the Dhoni masterclass, who smashed a brilliant unbeaten 28 off nine balls, powering CSK to go past 170 in the first innings. His brief stay during the last two overs saw him smash three fours and two sixes, including a monster 101m six to Yash Thakur in the final over. Watch the Video here – 𝙎𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚! He, however, touched upon his troubling knee injury, addressing the concerns around it. ALSO READ: IPL 2024, Match 35, Delhi Capitals vs SunRisers Hyderabad – Match preview and result prediction “It's inspirational, isn't it,” Fleming said of Dhoni's performances this season. “His batting this year, even in training, has been very crisp. The team isn't surprised with what he is doing because his skill level during the pre-season was very high. Other years, he has obviously had problems with his knee, and he is sort of recovering from that, which is why there is only a certain amount of balls he can function well. “I think everyone wants to see him for longer as we do, but that amount of time is about right. We need him for the tournament, and that 2-3 over cameo he is owning that space. It's up to the rest of the batting unit to get us to a good position where he can push us over the top. He is doing that pretty much every time at the moment, which is great to watch,” the head coach continued. Proud of his achievements for India and CSK MS Dhoni is perhaps the greatest Indian captain, having won three ICC trophies – the only skipper to do so, and countless ones with Chennai Super Kings. His aura goes beyond the cricketer that he is, and Fleming gets why he receives so much love worldwide. Speaking on the same lines, Fleming said he is proud of Dhoni for what he achieved for his country and this franchise in the IPL. "What an amazing atmosphere when he comes out and does play and entertain, it's exhilarating," Fleming said. "We are incredibly proud of what he has achieved. We marvel at the amount of love that he gets. It's no surprise with what he has done with Indian cricket and with CSK with us. We are incredibly proud that he is a part of our side and is pretty much the heartbeat of the side. We thoroughly enjoy it. We know we are beneficiaries of the career that he has had and is having. We enjoy every minute of it,” CSK’s head coach added.

IPL 2024: Fleming lauds MS Dhoni’s skill-set in pre-season as Mahi turns back clock against LSG

Match 34 of the IPL 2024 edition will see the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns with hosts Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the&nbsp;Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday evening (April 19). Lucknow, who are coming into this game on the back of twin defeats, will have to be at their very best to beat Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai.

Talking about CSK, the five-time winners come into this game with&nbsp;a lot of confidence due to their 20-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday (April 14). It was their first-ever away win of the season, which will boost their confidence coming to Lucknow as KL Rahul &amp; Co. also enjoy a good home record. Lucknow recently lost their first home game, to Delhi Capitals (DC), thus, will feel the pressure against the Yellow Army.

For Lucknow, Quinton de Kock is due for runs whereas Rahul also needs to up the ante. No. 3 remains their major issue and they would hope for Marcus Stoinis to get some runs. They are a team who defend well and will be confident with their bowling unit, especially with the likely return of pacer Mayank Yadav. On the other hand, CSK are doing most things right. Ruturaj and Shivam Dube are among the runs but they will hope for Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane to contribute more. Daryl Mitchell, however, might run out of chances, with Moeen Ali not getting a consistent run.&nbsp;

Chennai also have the spinners and variety in the pace department to pose a decent threat to Lucknow on Friday evening.&nbsp;

Match preview and result prediction: Overall, do not expect a run-fest as 200 has not been scored at this venue in this edition so far. Anything over 165 can be challenging for the side chasing. A determined Lucknow team will be eager to put their best foot forward but Chennai have enough resources to push forward&nbsp;their opposition's&nbsp;losing streak.

IPL 2024, Match 34: Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings – Match preview and result prediction

Ahead of Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) home game versus Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 19 (Friday), there is a massive boost for KL Rahul &amp; Co. as Mayank Yadav has returned to bowling at full tilt after having shaken off the niggle he was carrying recently. The Indian pacer has been a revelation in IPL 2024 due to his raw pace and yorkers. He has so far claimed six wickets in three games.&nbsp;

The 21-year-old Mayank got injured during his side's win over Gujarat Titans (GT), at home, and subsequently missed the games versus Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).&nbsp;Since his injury, Lucknow has lost two games on the trot and are in need to get back to winning ways.&nbsp;

LSG's official handle on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a video of Mayank returning back to bowling at the nets on Wednesday (April 17). Here is the clip:

Mayank has already bowled two of the fastest deliveries of IPL 2024 -- having clocked 155.8 kmph and 156.7 kmph. The pacer's speed and accuracy have impressed many former cricketers and experts of the game, with some also backing him for India's T20 World Cup squad. If the youngster has to make a surprise entry in India's T20 WC squad, he will hope to carry on with the momentum earned and help Lucknow reach the playoffs.&nbsp;

It will be interesting to see how Mayank makes a comeback after a good start in his debut IPL season. At present, Rahul-led LSG are in the fifth place with three wins and equal number of losses under their belt.&nbsp;

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Suresh Raina has stated that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be&nbsp;back for another season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the current campaign wraps up next month.&nbsp;

The 2024 season is being billed as the swansong campaign for Dhoni who relinquished his captaincy duties on the eve of the start of the tournament. MS Dhoni to play IPL 2025? Former teammate Suresh Raina drops major hint

Mumbai Indians succumbed to a 20-run defeat at home against Chennai Super Kings in the first El Clasico of the season, despite a valiant century from former captain Rohit Sharma (105*). The difference between a win and defeat for CSK was a certain MS Dhoni whose four-ball 20-run cameo provided the momentum that the five-time champions needed to get over the line and turned out to be the exact deficit margin for MI.

Apart from Dhoni, it was the spell from Matheesha Pathirana, aka the 'Baby Malinga' that turned the tide in CSK's favour. Chasing the daunting target of 207, MI were off the blocks in a blistering manner as Sharma and Ishan Kishan (23) pummeled absolutely everything out of the ground.&nbsp;

Such was the nonchalance in the duo's strokeplay that MI raced to 63 in the powerplay phase. However, Pathirana, summoned into the attack in the eighth over, struck on the first ball as Kishan flicked a length ball straight to Shardul Thakur at short midwicket.&nbsp;

IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings slay Mumbai Indians in their den after MS Dhoni's blitzkrieg

Matheesha Pathirana has been making right noises since his IPL debut (for CSK) last season, mainly for his yorkers, but more so for his celebration too, attracting everyone’s attention. While his death bowling, including searing toe-crushers and back-of-the-hand slower ones is as impressive as anything the fans have seen, his unique celebration too falls in the same category.

Pathirana was CSK’s best bowler against Mumbai Indians the other night, picking four wickets, and each time celebrated with his unique celebration of folding his hands and closing his eyes. The celebration resembles that of WWE superstar The Undertaker.&nbsp;

Shivam Dube, another CSK superstar from MI’s game, who hit a brilliant 66 off 38 balls, including hitting two sixes and 10 fours, chatted with Pathirana after the game, and asked him a question around his celebration.&nbsp;

Although Dube was expecting an answer around the Undertaker, Pathirana said he does this because he’s a huge Cristiano Ronaldo fan, and tries to mimic his celebration.

"No, it is not The Undertaker. I follow Cristiano Ronaldo and try to do his celebration. I try to close my eyes. I can't do that, unfortunately," Pathirana told Dube during their post-match interaction.

"So, that's why you become The Undertaker?" Dube questioned as both broke into laughter.

<h2>Pathirana continues to shine for CSK</h2>

The 21-year-old has been a find for the five-time champions, contributing to their success (by helping them win the title last year. The improved Pathirana delivered against the high-flying MI while defending 206 at the Wankhede Stadium.&nbsp;

At a time when Mumbai openers were cruising ahead, Pathirana’s introduction broke their momentum, as the Sri Lanka seamer picked wicket on the first ball of his spell by dismissing Ishan Kishan. He then got the big fish in Suryakumar Yadav two balls later to further dent MI’s chances.&nbsp;

Pathirana was CSK’s best bowler against Mumbai Indians the other night, picking four wickets, and each time celebrated with his unique celebration of folding his hands and closing his eyes. The celebration resembles that of WWE superstar The Undertaker. Shivam Dube, another CSK superstar from MI’s game, who hit a brilliant 66 off 38 balls, including hitting two sixes and 10 fours, chatted with Pathirana after the game, and asked him a question around his celebration. Pathirana continues to shine for CSK The 21-year-old has been a find for the five-time champions, contributing to their success (by helping them win the title last year. The improved Pathirana delivered against the high-flying MI while defending 206 at the Wankhede Stadium. At a time when Mumbai openers were cruising ahead, Pathirana’s introduction broke their momentum, as the Sri Lanka seamer picked wicket on the first ball of his spell by dismissing Ishan Kishan. He then got the big fish in Suryakumar Yadav two balls later to further dent MI’s chances. The death-over specialist removed Tilak Varma and Romario Shepherd to put MI on the mat, eventually returning with figures of four for 28. IPL 2024: ‘So that’s why you become The Undertaker’ – Dube questions Pathirana for ‘unique celebration’

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach Eric Simons believes MS Dhoni's four-ball 20-run cameo in the final over had a psychological effect on Mumbai Indians during the season's first El Clasico at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (Apr 14).

CSK were nowhere near the 200-run mark on the flat Mumbai pitch but Dhoni, who walked out to bat after Daryl Mitchell was dismissed on the second ball of the over, managed to hit Hardik Panyda for a hattrick of sixes - effectively changing the tide of the match. The last ball yielded a couple and Dhoni signed off with a match-winning innings. “Such an important thing is the psychological pressure you put an opposition in when you go into the break. You go to the changeroom and you have an over like that, it gives you massive momentum. They were looking to restrict us under 200 and suddenly they were facing 206 with an over like that. MS Dhoni continues to amaze us,” Simons said in the post-match press conference. Simons heaped praise on the veteran saying Dhoni had been striking the white ball cleanly all throughout his stay with CSK, including the pre-season camp. “To go out there and hit the first ball like that for six and continue the way he did was exceptional. He has been batting exceptionally well in the nets all the way through, pre-season and into the tournament. It was just another unbelievable MS Dhoni moment.” Watch | ‘Mayhem Singh Dhoni in full flow’: Fans go wild as Dhoni hits hattrick of sixes to take CSK past 200 The CSK coach revealed that owing to Dhoni's prowess in the death overs, the management used his batting template when planning for the bowlers who have the responsibility to finish the matches. "We can test out our theories against him, and we know that we are going to do well,” Simons added. CSK with the away win CSK had been winless on the road so far in the tournament but the five-time champions came up with smart plans and managed to thwart MI in their den. Despite posting a formidable target, MI were in the hunt with Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma collecting 63 runs in the first six overs. However, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad adjusted his gameplan with CSK bowlers forcing the MI batters to hit to the long side of the park. Sharma waged a lone battle by hitting a valiant eighth century of his T20 career but none of the other batters could step up and help him. (With inputs from agencies)

IPL 2024: CSK coach says MS Dhoni’s knock ‘psychologically’ affected MI

Former England cricketer is of the view that Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya is masking his feelings by wearing a smily constantly to cope with the barrage of criticism coming his way. The veteran player said Pandya was 'smiling too much', acting like 'he was happy' when the truth was somewhat different.&nbsp;

Pandya-led MI succumbed in the season's first El Clasico against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 20 runs where certain decisions taken by&nbsp;the new captain came under heavy scrutiny.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"I actually think, with Hardik Pandya, everything away from the game is affecting him so much. He's smiling too much when he does the toss. He's trying to act like he is so happy. He is not happy. I have been there. I have been in the firing line. And I can tell you now, it affects you. If what's happening to Hardik Pandya," said Pietersen.&nbsp;

Ever since assuming the captaincy role at MI after a shock move from Gujarat Titans (GT), Pandya has been subjected to constant boos from the fans, including the home crowd at Wankhede.&nbsp;

"The boos we have been hearing just now and I know they are happy to see former CSK captain, the lion smacking him all over the park, it hurts you. Because he has emotions. And he is an Indian player and he doesn't want to be treated like this. So, when this is happening, it's affecting him, it's affecting his cricket and something needs to happen," Pietersen added.&nbsp;

The cricketer-turned-commentator also slammed Pandya for not deviating from Plan A when Shivam Dube was at the crease. Pandya did not bring any of the spinners against Dube as the match-ups favoured the left-hand batter. However, Pietersen quizzed if the rigidity shown by Pandya ultimately cost MI the match.

"What I saw this evening wasn't good enough. I saw a captain that had plan A from a team meeting that was five hours ago and a captain that didn't want to go to plan B when he should have gone to plan B. Like how on this Earth have you not bowled a spinner when your seamers are going for 20. Brian Lara said can we please bowl a spinner? Somebody needs to bowl here. You need to change the pace of the game," Pietersen said on Star Sports.&nbsp;

Pandya was also responsible for conceding 26&nbsp;runs in the final over where MS Dhoni smashed a hattrick of sixes to take CSK above the 200-run mark.&nbsp;

Winning is very important to get the momentum. We were able to win two games convincingly. That's the beauty about IPL, everyone has to contribute.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK captain):&nbsp;Would have bowled first, something we can't control. Need to do well in all three departments. This is the beauty of IPL. always fluctuating. Mumbai Indians won the toss and have opted to field

MI vs CSK Live Score Full Scorecard: What they said?

Stephen Fleming (CSK head coach):&nbsp;So not by design, but more through results, it's worked out to a couple of successful franchises that have had opportunities to push ahead of the others (on CSK-MI rivalry). But look, in saying that every time you play a team these days, it feels like a massive rivalry or a massive game. So we try to keep things reasonably simple and part of the process of this game is to keep emotions down and just enjoy the occasion for what it is.&nbsp;

Mohammad Nabi (MI all-rounder):&nbsp;Every batsman thinks that an off-spinner is there to hit. As a batsman, even I think so when I face an off-spinner. I think there is a chance for two sixes. When I am bowling, I think as a batsman to survive. If the conditions are bad, not much would be in my hands. In that case, I attack the batsman, try to take the wicket. To survive, I try yorkers, wide yorkers, or bowl slow. I try my best to survive those six balls.&nbsp;

Hardik Pandya (MI captain): We would like to bowl first, dew will come into play. It looks better than the last game, expecting a lot of runs. Need to stick to the basics. Winning is very important to get the momentum. We were able to win two games convincingly. That's the beauty about IPL, everyone has to contribute. Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK captain): Would have bowled first, something we can't control. Need to do well in all three departments. This is the beauty of IPL. always fluctuating. Good contest for both teams, two teams up for grabs. The team playing better will win. Pathirana comes in for Theekshana, that's the only change. Stephen Fleming (CSK head coach): So not by design, but more through results, it's worked out to a couple of successful franchises that have had opportunities to push ahead of the others (on CSK-MI rivalry). But look, in saying that every time you play a team these days, it feels like a massive rivalry or a massive game. So we try to keep things reasonably simple and part of the process of this game is to keep emotions down and just enjoy the occasion for what it is. Mohammad Nabi (MI all-rounder): Every batsman thinks that an off-spinner is there to hit. As a batsman, even I think so when I face an off-spinner. I think there is a chance for two sixes. When I am bowling, I think as a batsman to survive. If the conditions are bad, not much would be in my hands. In that case, I attack the batsman, try to take the wicket. To survive, I try yorkers, wide yorkers, or bowl slow. I try my best to survive those six balls. MI vs CSK Match Highlights, IPL 2024: Chennai beat Mumbai by 20 runs at Wankhede

Mahendra Singh Dhoni enthralled the capacity crowd at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (Apr 14) by smashing a hattrick of sixes in the 20th over to guide Chennai Super Kings (CSK) past the 200-run mark. Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya bowled the pivotal over but could not stop Dhoni from using his long levers to turn back the clock.&nbsp;

Dhoni walked out to bat in the final over after Daryl Mitchell played an attritional 14-ball 17-run innings before holing out at long on to Mohammad Nabi. Dhoni, who has only faced a handful of deliveries throughout the tournament, deposited the first ball over long off for a massive six.&nbsp;

The very next ball, Pandya delivered another length one in the arc and Dhoni, using his strong bottom hand, tonked it flat over midwicket. The third delivery was a loosener on the pads and Dhoni merely guided it over the long leg fence to collect his third maximum of the night. The last ball yielded a couple and Dhoni signed off with a four-ball 20-run cameo.&nbsp;

A third added: "I don’t think there’ll ever be anyone like MS DHONI. Statistically and by records? Surely yes. But there’ll NEVER be an another HIM."

<h2>CSK put in to bat</h2>

Pandya won the toss and opted to field first. CSK surprised everyone by promoting Ajinkya Rahane up the order to open the innings instead of Ruturaj Gaikwad.&nbsp;

However, the ploy did not work as Rahane failed to break free and departed in the second over. Rachin Ravindra's poor form with the bat continued and he fell after toe-edging one of the deliveries from Shreyas Gopal. A shrewd review from Ishan Kishan and Pandya allowed MI to claw their nails in the game further.

Just when it looked like CSK would struggle to power through, Gaikwad (69) took the onus upon himself and started to cart MI bowlers to all parts of the Wankhede. He found an ideal foil in Shivam Dube (66*) who murdered anything dropped in his arc.&nbsp;

‘Mayhem Singh Dhoni in full flow’: Fans go wild as Dhoni hits hattrick of sixes to take CSK past 200 - WATCH

Since winning the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, the Indian Team has not been able to lift&nbsp;the trophy again. While failing to deliver on D-days is deemed one of the reasons, the selectors, on their part, failing to pick the right squad is also pointed as an excuse for India’s dry run in this tournament. However, Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has a solution.

Speaking to the media ahead of MI vs CSK’s IPL game at the Wankhede on Sunday night, Fleming, while reverting to one of the questions surrounding Shivam Dube’s chances of breaking into India's T20 WC squad, said the Indian selectors must decide on the template they want to play at the tournament and then pick the team around it.

This advice is a much-needed one for the BCCI selectors, who have a massive task of picking the best 15 for the 20-team-tournament, starting on June 1 in the Caribbean and the USA.&nbsp;

“The thing for me is, what type of game plan do they want to play during the World Cup? What have they identified as the right style of play for India in an away condition?” Fleming said.

“Then put players into that rather than just picking players and trying to find a game plan. I would be looking at the style of play that I would want, and then pick the players that are in-form and can perform the role that will best win that design,” CSK’s head coach continued.

<h2>‘Hardest job in the world’</h2>

While backing the selectors for doing the hardest job in Indian cricket to name a team worthy of lifting an ICC title, Fleming explained his reasons behind opting for Dube for the marquee event.&nbsp;

Dube has been CSK’s standout batter this season, smashing 176 runs in four matches, striking at 160.

“It’s probably one of the hardest jobs in world cricket, isn’t it, being an Indian selector? On one hand, very jealous as a New Zealander looking at the amount of talent that is on show and new players every game sort of pop up,” Fleming said.

“I love his power. I’m biased, aren’t I? But I think when you have a bit different power like that; I would have him in the side,” the head coach added.

Meanwhile, the Indian selectors are said to be naming the T20 World Cup squad by the end of April or by May’s first week.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has predicted which team Rohit Sharma could play for next season in the Indian Premier League. Following replacing him with Hardik Pandya as the team’s new captain ahead of IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians cleared their intentions of going ahead with a new captain, leaving Rohit’s position in the team up in the air. However, considering the mega auction takes place next year, Rohit might go into it as one of the marquee players.

Vaughan, a cricket pundit, feels outside of Mumbai Indians there’s only one team where he fits and it's Chennai Super Kings. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad was named MS Dhoni’s successor at CSK, with Dhoni stepping aside from captaincy a day before the start of this season, Vaughan feels Rohit, if picked by CSK, will replace him as the team’s new captain.

“Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai? Replace Dhoni? Gaikwad is doing it (the captaincy) this year, and it might be just (an act of) holding position for Rohit next year. I see him in Chennai,” Vaughan speculated when asked about Rohit’s potential franchise next year, during the recent episode of BeerBiceps podcast.

To which, the host, Ranveer Allahbadia said, “That'd be heartbreaking, honestly. For MI fans, that'd be terrible. I wouldn't mind him going to (Sunrisers) Hyderabad; he played for Deccan Chargers, so that would be romantic.”

Meanwhile, commenting on this ongoing and unpleasant saga of Pandya replacing Rohit as the franchise’s new captain, Michael said Pandya’s return to MI was bound to put pressure on him anyway; now with captaincy being bestowed upon him, it further mounted. Sharing his thoughts on whom of the two he would have picked, Vaughan said,&nbsp;

"I personally would've captained Rohit. Hardik coming back to MI is big enough pressure in itself, and Rohit is obviously going to be the Indian T20 captain," Vaughan noted.

<h2>Rohit’s run at MI set to be over</h2>

With the mega auction happening next year and no word on the retention policy out yet, all teams could retain a maximum of three to five players as things stand.&nbsp;

Considering the future, Mumbai, like any other team, would like to retain their youngsters, meaning Rohit might miss out on that list, and Mumbai could also skip opting for him at the auction.&nbsp;

Rohit, a six-time IPL winner, having led Mumbai Indians to five titles starting from 2013, could actually move to a new franchise from next season onwards.&nbsp;

Chennai Super Kings captain and veteran MS Dhoni is a gigantic figure in the dressing room, and for what he brings to the table, he is regarded as one of cricket’s greatest. CSK’s batting coach, Michael Hussey, caught up with Ravi Ashwin on #KuttiStorieswithAsh and shared insights on what makes Dhoni the legend, also emphasising how, every season, MS brings the best out of his players.

Hussey and Dhoni have shared the dressing room since 2008, having won several IPL trophies together in the yellow jersey.&nbsp;Dhoni’s best trait, which, per Hussey, keeps him ahead of everyone, is his ability to spot good players for a particular position and back them.

With this, Dhoni instils trust in those players, be it the youngsters or even top names from other countries, creating a winning environment in the dressing room.

"I think he's got a great feel for what it takes to create a winning environment and put a team together that will, in the long term, have success," Hussey said while chatting with Ravi Ashwin.&nbsp;

"Again, there's that trust in the players...We've hardly changed the team over the years. There's been that continuity. He looks for good players to play that particular role, but he also looks for good people. And once he has got those good people, he will really back them to the hilt,” the CSK batting coach added.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)&nbsp;registered their third win of the&nbsp;Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on Monday (April 8). After the latest win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opened up on his stint and stated he is enjoying the new role. Gaikwad, who was handed the captaincy on the eve of the opening of the IPL 2024 season, has so far helped CSK&nbsp;win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) and on Monday against KKR.

<h2>Gaikwad opens up on captaincy role</h2>

"I don't want to be a specific kind of character," Gaikwad said. "Just like to flow things as they're flowing. Keep the culture of the CSK basically going. That's what I feel. The success we've had, the things we have been doing, I don't want to change a single bit of it. I just want to come there, take my own decisions and just give as much freedom as possible because that's what has been happening since when I joined CSK. Nothing really changes and I'm enjoying myself."

While MS Dhoni is still the undesignated leader of the side, Gaikwad unlike Ravindra Jadeja in 2022 has got off to a good start. He has been brilliant with his captaincy while changing the bowlers and field placements and also using the impact sub during a crucial period.&nbsp;

IPL 2024: Ruturaj Gaikwad opens up on captaincy after win against KKR, says 'I'm enjoying myself'

Chennai Super Kings returned to winnings ways on Monday (Apr 8) at 'fortress' Chepauk, beating Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets, chasing an under-par target of 138. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (67*) shepherded the chase with immaculate precision, scoring his first fifty of the season, when it looked like CSK might struggle the same way as KKR did on the slow pitch.&nbsp;

Rachin Ravindra (15) opened the batting with Gaikwad and stroked a few good shots before Vaibhav Arora got his number in the fourth over. A returning Daryl Mitchell (25) walked out to bat at no. 3 and started rotating the strike without much fuss.&nbsp;

While most KKR batters attempted to murder the ball, Gaikwad used his finesse and artistry to carve it to different parts of the park. His craft was most evidently on display when Anukul Roy came to bowl in the powerplay. Gaikwad simply made room for himself and timed the ball to the fence on three occasions, setting the tone of the chase.&nbsp;

From thereon, it was a stroll in the park for CSK as none of the KKR bowlers could utilise the conditions to their advantage. The two-time champions and their record buy, Mitchell Starc, once again failed to come good while Varun Chakaravarthy lacked that decisive punch.

Narine did flatten Mitchell's offstump as the Kiwi ran down the track and played the wrong line, but it proved inconsequential in the match's grander scheme. Gaikwad joined by Shivam Dube (28) provided the finishing touches and CSK cantered to their third win of the tournament.&nbsp; MS Dhoni did play a cameo at the end, providing the fairytale finish to the 'Thala' fans.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>KKR struggle at Chepauk&nbsp;</h2>

The foundation of the impressive victory was laid in the first innings when the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande took down the powerful KKR batting order.&nbsp;

Deshpande struck with the first ball of the match by sending Phil Salt back to the pavilion on a golden duck. Sunil Narine (27) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (24) did salvage the powerplay phase by stitching a 56-run partnership but things soon unravelled.&nbsp;

Jadeja, brought&nbsp;in to bowl the seventh&nbsp;over&nbsp;struck twice to send both the batters home before coming in the subsequent over and accounting for Venkatesh Iyer's dismissal as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;

IPL 2024: CSK return to winning ways, beat KKR by 7 wickets at 'fortress' Chepauk

Shane Watson had an incredible run in international cricket and also in the IPL. During his IPL career, he played for several franchises and won titles for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Watson, who ended with&nbsp;3,874 runs and 92 wickets in the IPL played&nbsp;for the MS Dhoni-led CSK franchise in his last three years, from 2018-2020. Watson recalled his CSK days and reminisced a funny incident involving Dhoni.

Speaking on #TheInsiders on JioCinema, Watson revealed, "I remember the first time that I played at CSK and one of the first things MS Dhoni said to the whole group was ‘Whatever we do, we want to win the FairPlay award but now that we’ve got you Watson (Shane Watson) the chance of us winning that has significantly reduced.’ And then, that great man ended up walking onto the field in one game and I was like well….Maybe not!”

The incident Watson was talking about was when Dhoni walked onto the field during CSK's away game versus Rajasthan Royals (RR), at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur during IPL 2019. Chasing 152, Chennai were left with 8 to get off the last two deliveries when the penultimate ball, bowled by Ben Stokes, was a slower full toss above waist height as Mitchell Santner-Ravindra Jadeja ran two and the leg umpire signalled&nbsp;it a no-ball. There was a lot of chaos and drama regarding it being a legitimate delivery or not and just then, Dhoni stormed onto the field to have a heated argument with the umpires. Eventually, it wasn't deemed a no-ball but Santer-Jadeja did the job for CSK with a last-ball six.

IPL 2024: 'He ended up walking onto the field' - Shane Watson recalls funny incident with MS Dhoni at CSK

Ahead of match 22 in IPL 2024, where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday (April 8) in Chennai, Gautam Gambhir -- former KKR skipper and their current mentor -- recalled his IPL rivalry with MS Dhoni. Gambhir heaped praise on the former CSK and Indian captain Dhoni. He went onto add that during his KKR captaincy days, he had to be at his tactical best to overcome Dhoni when the latter was leading the Super Kings. It is to be noted that Gambhir-led KKR won their maiden IPL title in 2012, beating CSK by five wickets in Chennai.&nbsp;

Talking on Star Sports, Gambhir stated that both Dhoni and he have been very competitive and always wanted to win. He said, "I wanted to win. I am very clear in my mind. Friends, mutual respect, everything will remain. But when you are in the middle, I am captaining KKR and he is captaining CSK. If you ask him, he will probably give you the same answer. It's about winning. Obviously, MS is the most successful captain India will ever have. I don't think anyone can reach that level - winning 3 ICC trophies."

"But, yes, in the IPL, enjoyed every bit of it because I knew MS had that tactical mindset. He is very good tactically. Knew how to control the spinners, how to set the fields against them and would never give up as well. He batted at No. 6 or 7, and we knew that till he was there, he could finish off the game."

The former Indian opener added, "Even if they needed 20 runs in an over, and MS was in the middle, he could finish off that game. At the same time, I knew I had the bowling attack to challenge anyone in the Super Kings. Knew that tactically had to be better than him in every front because he is not that aggressive on the field, but knew he would not give up. Chennai is that kind of a team, against whom you know you are not winning until the last ball was bowled."

Both Dhoni and Gambhir have been regarded as one of the finest IPL captains. The two have shared a great rivalry during their respective captaincy days. On Monday evening, CSK will host KKR in match 22 of the ongoing edition with Dhoni representing the defending champions as a keeper-batter; having handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad whereas Gambhir will don the mentor's hat as Kolkata will look to remain unbeaten with four successive wins.

IPL 2024: ‘MS Dhoni is not that aggressive, but...’ - Gautam Gambhir lauds CSK star, recalls rivalry with him

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke feels Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star MS Dhoni should not be promoted up&nbsp;the batting order in IPL 2024&nbsp;. Since Dhoni's 16-ball 37* versus Delhi Capitals (DC), in match 13, where he kept Chennai in with a slight chance in their unsuccessful chase in Visakhapatnam, many former cricketers feel that the Yellow Army should make use of Dhoni's form and send him up the order. However, Clarke heaped praise on Dhoni, calling him the 'best finisher the game has ever seen', but stated that the veteran should bat at No. 8.

In a panel discussion on Star Sports, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar stated, "Which means he will have to come ahead of somebody like a Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube. Is that the right call? I Wonder. May be not. I want him to replicate what he did last season. Few balls and maximum impact. And even in that match, when he got 30-odd, he got it in 16-17 balls. MS Dhoni’s strengths lies in his wicketkeeping, being a guide to Ruturaj and his cameos. Sending him at No. 3 or No. 4 may not be such a great idea."

Clarke joined in and agreed with Manjrekar by saying, "You are spot on, Sanjay. He doesn’t need to. That’s never been his role in any format of the game. There might have been occasions when he goes up the order. But, generally, he is a finisher. He is probably the best finisher the game has ever seen. So he doesn’t have to change that. The other thing about having MS Dhoni in your team, that should give the players in front of him feel confident, and maybe take a few risks a little bit earlier. He has got enough jobs, and he has done it for a long period of time. It’s time for other players to step up."

Dhoni-starrer CSK are at the fourth spot in the points table, with two wins and equal number of losses. Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai will host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who are unbeaten in the ongoing edition, in match 22 on Monday evening (April 8). The defending champions will be looking to return to winning ways versus Shreyas Iyer &amp; Co.

Also read: IPL 2024, CSK vs KKR Match Preview: Chennai aim to wrest losing streak against Kolkata juggernaut at home Clarke joined in and agreed with Manjrekar by saying, "You are spot on, Sanjay. It’s time for other players to step up." Dhoni-starrer CSK are at the fourth spot in the points table, with two wins and equal number of losses. Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai will host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who are unbeaten in the ongoing edition, in match 22 on Monday evening (April 8). The defending champions will be looking to return to winning ways versus Shreyas Iyer & Co.

IPL 2024: 'Let MS Dhoni remain a finisher' - Clarke not in favour of former CSK captain batting up the order

Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets in match 18 of the IPL 2024 edition on Friday (April 5) in Hyderabad. Being asked to bat first, the Yellow Army only managed 165 for 5, on a sluggish surface, with Shivam Dube (45) being their top-scorer. In reply, Cummins &amp; Co. chased it down with six wickets courtesy of Abhishek Sharma's blazing 12-ball 37 and Aiden Markram's 50.

After the clash, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming reckoned that the five-time winners certainly missed their death-over specialist bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana. The Bangladeshi pacer is back home in Bangladesh due to visa issues whereas Pathirana missed the SRH clash due to a niggle. In their absence, who have shared 11 wickets so far in this edition, Chennai used seven bowlers but couldn't stop SRH from chasing down a moderate 166 on a tricky wicket.&nbsp;

In their run-chase, SRH were 78 for 1 in the first six overs, very much closing the game by then. Only Moeen Ali (3-0-23-2) stood tall and delayed the inevitable for a brief period.&nbsp;

Fleming agreed that his side missed Mustafizur and Pathirana during the post-match presser, "Without a doubt, it's It's part of the IPL. He's not here, so we can't use him. But having injuries and losing players in an IPL is part of the process."

The New Zealander opined that though they played Mukesh Choudhary -- their find of IPL 2022 -- the young pacer had an off day, with a spell of 1-0-27-0.

"We had a chance to introduce Mukesh Chaudhary today. He was good for us a while back. It wasn't his day. But that's part of the IPL It's managing players, and when you do find yourself a little bit short on firepower, it's finding the new hero," stated Fleming.

Further, he added, "And, it didn't happen today, but we put trust in the players that we introduced and they've been training well and doing the job. Tough baptism. The first five or six overs were the best to bat, and the aggressive way in which they played showed that. So, being able to get a wicket first over and maybe shut down the second, it could have been a competitive score, but maybe 15 short and, not quite accurate enough for first six overs with the ball."

CSK will now face KKR, who are unbeaten so far, at their home ground, i.e. the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on April 8 and hope to return to winning ways. They remain at the third spot, with two wins and equal number of defeats.

IPL 2024: CSK coach rues missing Mustafizur, Pathirana after Yellow Army's loss to SRH

Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody has lavished huge praise on Pat Cummins after the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets in match 18 of IPL 2024 on Friday (April 5) in Hyderabad. Cummins-led SRH opted to bowl first and restricted Ruturaj Gaikwad &amp; Co. for 165 for 5&nbsp;before chasing down a moderate 166 in 18.1 overs, courtesy of Abhishek Sharma's 12-ball 37 and Aiden Markram's 50.

Moody lauded Cummins who&nbsp;doesn't shy away from resorting to unorthodox&nbsp;tactics, which one may not think at first. Prior to IPL 2024, Cummins had no experience of captaining a T20 team across any level, however, Moody believes the Australian Test and ODI skipper has cracked the code to lead well&nbsp;in the shortest format as well. The former cricketer compared him with legendary captain MS Dhoni.

<h2>'He is a bit like MS Dhoni'</h2>

After SRH's win over CSK, Moody told ESPNCricinfo, "The one thing I like about Cummins is he is a bit like MS Dhoni. He is prepared to make a decision that most people don’t think about, but makes you feel like ‘Why didn’t I think about that?’ Like the Abhishek Sharma over. It was quite an odd decision when you look at the other options they could have gone with."

He added, "You have arguably the best new ball bowler in IPL history in Bhuvneshwar Kumar. You have got an off spinner against left-handers. You think Markram would be another one. There was plenty of other ways he could have gone. But he committed to that and it looked like from the get go, he convinced&nbsp;himself that it was the right decision."

Cummins rotated his bowlers smartly on a sluggish surface at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad versus a famed Chennai batting lineup. He started with Abhishek Sharma bowling the first over of the match, after Chennai were asked to bat first, and used as many as seven bowlers -- including himself -- to restrict CSK to 165-5 before SRH's power-hitters propelled them to a six-wicket win.

Cummins-led SRH are at the fifth spot, with two wins and equal number of losses, whereas CSK remain at the third spot despite two successive defeats.

IPL 2024: Pat Cummins is a bit like MS Dhoni - Tom Moody hails SRH captain after CSK clash

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Shane Watson is hoping&nbsp;that the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led unit will learn from their mistakes during their 20-run loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) and return to winning ways when they face hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 18 of IPL 2024, on Friday (April 5), in Hyderabad. Watson feels CSK will not be hesitant to promote MS Dhoni up the order after the veteran made a brilliant 16-ball 37* in his side's unsuccessful 192-run chase versus Delhi in match 13, on March 31.

Chennai were in the hunt during their 192-run chase versus Rishabh Pant &amp; Co. after Ajinkya Rahane gave them a platform with a 30-ball 45. However, the asking rate kept going up and ordinary knocks from Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja as well as Sameer Rizvi's golden duck dented them before Dhoni's blistering cameo. Nonetheless, it was not enough for them to win the game as they ended with 171-6. Following his knock, many believed Chennai missed a trick by sending Dhoni at No. 8, when they needed 72 off 23 balls.

Watson, however, believes that the Yellow Army is one side that&nbsp;learns&nbsp;from its&nbsp;mistakes instantly and, hence, will use Dhoni up the order if the situation arises going ahead after the DC clash.

Ahead of CSK's away game versus SRH, Watson said, "CSK will be learning from the little things that went wrong against Delhi in their last game and make the most of the things that went incredibly well. One thing was Dhoni, the way he batted, coming in late in the game, which will mean that hopefully, he'll move up the order when an opportunity presents itself, because he batted as well as I've seen him for a long time."

"The lessons that CSK learned, that's the reason why they've been so successful for so long because they'll find out little elements they need to get better, they need to execute better and where they went wrong and they'll learn from that. So they'll be ready to go against Hyderabad," he added.

Dhoni made an impact with the bat in IPL 2023, with useful cameos, and has started in a similar manner this season.

Chennai are in the top 4 at the moment, occupying the third spot and will look to return to winning ways against Hyderabad, against whom they enjoy a solid 14-5 head-to-head record. However, they won't have it easy against Pat Cummins &amp; Co. who started their home run in IPL 2024 by registering the highest team total, 277/3, last week (versus Mumbai Indians).

SRH, on the other hand, are in the seventh spot with one win from three games. They lost their last encounter to Gujarat Titans (GT) by seven wickets.

IPL 2024: 'Hopefully he'll move up' - Shane Watson backs MS Dhoni to bat higher for CSK after cameo vs DC

On Friday (April 5), the action continues in the IPL 2024 edition as Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will host the Chennai Super Kings, in match 18, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. While SRH are coming into this game on the back of a seven-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans (GT), Chennai also lost their first game of the season -- after two successive wins -- when they faced Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam.

Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK opened their campaign in style by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the season-opener by six wickets. They went onto beat GT at home as well, by 63 runs but lost to Delhi by 20 runs in their first game on the road. SRH, on the other hand, have entertained with much-improved batting performances, thriving on intent and a lot of freedom to express from the word go, but will need more consistency now. They lost a thriller to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), chasing over 220, and beat Mumbai Indians (MI) after posting the highest-ever team score in IPL; i.e. 277/3. However, they fell flat versus Gujarat in a moderate-scoring encounter.&nbsp;

Match preview and result prediction: Both teams will have to contend with a black soil pitch, hence, hitting through the line won't be easy for the batters. While it can be expected that this might not be a high-scorer, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori has not ruled it out completely. Still, expect a 170-plus affair and chasing might not be easy this evening.

IPL 2024, Match 18: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings – Match preview and result prediction

IN PICS | IPL 2024: Teams with most IPL matches

Bangladesh and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) seamer Mustafizur Rahman has headed home to sort his visa application for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA, starting June 1. Due to this, he will miss CSK’s next game against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday (April 5). The left-arm seamer will return to India on either Sunday or Monday, depending on when he receives his passport. A Monday (April 8) return might see him missing Chennai’s next tie against Kolkata Knight Riders.

"Mustafizur arrived last night from the IPL for US visa purposes for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He will be giving his fingerprint at the US embassy tomorrow (April 4) and later will travel back to India to join Chennai," BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

His absence will force CSK to change their winning combination, as the Chennai-based outfit might bring Maheesh Theekshana or England all-rounder Moeen Ali in his place for the away game against SRH. If Chennai decides to play an Indian pacer in his place, the left-arm quick Mukesh Choudhary is also an option.&nbsp;

Choudhary, who hasn’t played any competitive cricket since December 2022 due to multiple injuries, admitted going through a tough time but thanked the franchise for backing him during this period.

"It was a tough time for me, but I'm thankful to CSK for helping me through the recovery process. Now, I'm fully fit and ready to play whenever the team wants me," Mukesh, who by the end of IPL 2022 had suffered a rib fracture and lower back injury, said ahead of IPL 2024.

Meanwhile, Mustafizur has done wonders for CSK thus far in the tournament, leading the wicket-taking chart with seven wickets from three games at an average of 15.14 and an economy rate of 8.83. His exploits against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the season opener and three wickets in the next two games helped him bag the purple cap.

<h2>Mustafizur to leave CSK after April</h2>

As confirmed by Yunus, Rahman’s NOC for the IPL runs only till the end of April, as he will return home for national duty, to play against Zimbabwe in the five-match T20I series starting May 3.&nbsp;

"His NOC for the tournament runs till April 30 and we are expecting him to be back after that from IPL," Yunus concluded.

IPL 2024: CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman to miss SRH clash, to fly home to sort out visa for T20 World Cup

Delhi Capitals might have won their first game of IPL 2024, but the talk of the town has been MS Dhoni’s unbeaten innings of 37 runs from 16 balls that included three sixes and four fours. Although his exploits came a bit too late for the CSK team as it&nbsp;lost the match by 20 runs, the fans cherished Dhoni’s brief stay at the crease as he entertained all with his vintage shot-making. Even CSK coach Stephen Fleming hailed MS’ knock, pointing out his one-handed six off Anrich Nortje in the last over to be the best of the day.

For the first time this season, Dhoni came out to bat, but at number eight, when CSK was almost out of the chase. Despite having a bleak chance of winning their third game on the trot, Dhoni went bonkers from ball one, smashing Mukesh Kumar for a four off a pull to begin with.&nbsp;

He then took on Khaleel Ahmed in the next over, slamming him for a four and a six before Kumar returned to bowl a brilliant penultimate over to put DC in the winning position. However, with over 40 needed off the last over, Dhoni took on DC seamer Nortje, hitting him for 20 runs, including two sixes and as many fours. MS Dhoni had&nbsp;undergone a&nbsp;knee surgery ahead of this season, and per Fleming, he&nbsp;trained well and looked in good form while rehabbing.

"It was beautiful, wasn't it? And even the one-handed one over midwicket. He has been playing incredibly well in the pre-season," Fleming said at his post-match press conference.&nbsp;

"He's coming back from quite a serious operation. He has been rehabbing well, and his batting has been superb. And that performance gave a positive vibe towards the end of a tough day. So, to get to within 20 [runs] is important run-rate-wise, and the way he played was spectacular,” he added.

<h2>DC opens account in Vizag</h2>

Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals team opened their account in IPL 2024 by beating table-toppers CSK in their second home venue in Vizag on Sunday. Prithvi Shaw’s inclusion in the XI turned out to be massive as he, along with David Warner, got Delhi off to a flyer. Pant scored his maiden fifty this season to propel DC to 191 for five in the first innings.

Chennai lost openers early but Rahane and Mitchell stitched a 68-run stand for the third wicket to keep them alive in the chase. However, a flurry of wickets at the wrong time for CSK saw DC take advantage and walk away with a win eventually.

Delhi Capitals might have won their first game of IPL 2024, but the talk of the town has been MS Dhoni’s unbeaten innings of 37 runs from 16 balls that included three sixes and four fours.

Although his exploits came a bit too late for the CSK team as it lost the match by 20 runs, the fans cherished Dhoni’s brief stay at the crease as he entertained all with his vintage shot-making. Even CSK coach Stephen Fleming hailed MS’ knock, pointing out his one-handed six off Anrich Nortje in the last over to be the best of the day. Despite having a bleak chance of winning their third game on the trot, Dhoni went bonkers from ball one, smashing Mukesh Kumar for a four off a pull to begin with. IPL 2024: ‘Wasn’t it beautiful’ - CSK coach Fleming hails MS Dhoni’s one-handed six

Led by a lethal opening burst from Khaleel Ahmed, Delhi Capitals defeated Chennai Super Kings to secure their first win of the IPL 2024 campaign. Defending a target of 192, CSK needed a rocking start from their on-song openers but both Rachin Ravindra and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to get going and departed inside the first three overs.&nbsp;

From thereon, it was an uphill battle all the way through for CSK who fell short by 20 runs in the end, despite a late surge from MS Dhoni (37) and Ravindra Jadeja (21). The former CSK skipper walked out to bat for the first time this season and treated the Vizag crowd to some delicious stroke-making.&nbsp;

While the openers departed cheaply, the middle-order tried its best to keep up with the required run-rate but the pair of Ajinkya Rahane and Daryly Mitchell struggled against a disciplined bowling lineup. Mitchell lost his shape a few times trying to force the issue and eventually departed against Axar Patel who caught a sharp one off his own bowling.&nbsp;

<h2>DC post challenging total</h2>

Playing at the new home ground, Capitals came out of the blocks in blistering&nbsp;manner,&nbsp; courtesy of David Warner and freshly recalled Prithvi Shaw. The duo stitched a 93-run partnership by the halfway mark, forcing Ruturaj to make quick changes to the bowling queue.&nbsp;

Just when it seemed like DC were running away with the match, Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana pulled a rabbit out of the hat by plucking a stunner in the short third-man region to send Warner home.&nbsp;

Pathirana's heroics in the field did not stop there as he came in to bowl and cleaned up Mitchell Marsh as well Tristan Stubbs in the same over. The Australian all-rounder was starting to tee off before Pathirana darted in his slingy, pacy yorker at the base of the stumps which Marsh could not dig out.&nbsp;

Despite the setbacks, DC skipper Rishabh Pant (52) kept coming at the bowlers and compiled his first fifty after returning to professional cricket, post the horrific car accident. His innings was perhaps the difference between a win and a loss for the Capitals that desperately needed to get off the mark&nbsp;

IPL 2024: DC beat CSK by 20 runs at Vizag despite late MS Dhoni fireworks

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shashtri has opined that the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season will be the last time we see MS Dhoni take the field, especially after the latter handed over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad.&nbsp;

The decision to pass on the captaincy armband was announced on the eve of&nbsp;CSK's opening match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), earlier this month, which took the fans by surprise.&nbsp;

"This is MS Dhoni's last season okay, very clear. You know depends how his body copes with everything, whether he plays the whole season or doesn't play the whole season, only time will tell," Shastri told the host broadcaster.&nbsp;

Asked to decode why Dhoni had given up on captaincy, Shastri said he wanted to ease the process for Gaikwad.&nbsp;

"But what he has done is that he said, I don't want to give the job to Ruturaj halfway through the tournament. Be in the hot seat from the outside, I am watching from the back, if he needs some help I'm there to help him out but I think as compared to the year when Jadeja was captain, MS will take more and more of the backseat and probably contribute just in a little way between the drinks break or something like that," Shastri added.

IPL 2024: ‘This is his last season,’ Ravi Shastri on MS Dhoni’s IPL future

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made a bright start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season having registered back-to-back wins against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). During the opening match against RCB,&nbsp;Sameer Rizvi, signed for a whopping amount of $1 million (INR 8.4 crore) during the auctions in December was&nbsp;handed his debut cap. Having received his cap in the presence of MS Dhoni, Rizvi opened up on the dream and what it was like playing alongside the former India captain.

<h2>Rizvi opens up on the move</h2>

"It was a very nice feeling to be picked by CSK," Rizvi said.

"It was my dream to meet and play with Mahi bhaiya. And, that dream was fulfilled. Apart from that, I really did not expect to get picked by CSK or any other franchise for this amount. But I think they [CSK] showed faith in me, so I really liked that. One thing that I like most about this team is everyone backs one another, all of them are very helpful; it is amazing," he added.

In his opening two matches for CSK, Rizvi is yet to prove himself as he managed to&nbsp;score only&nbsp;14 runs against GT while he did not get to bat against RCB on the opening night. He has been one of the brightest stars of the domestic format and scored 309 runs in 13 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His performance did not go unnoticed and was signed by CSK in December.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take inspiration from their women's counterpart to win their maiden title in the IPL 2024 edition, which kicks off on March 22 (Friday). RCB, under Faf du Plessis, open their campaign versus defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in the season-opener. The three-time runners-up will hope for a bright start and to go all the distance this time around after failing to reach the playoffs last year.&nbsp;

In the IPL 2024 mini-auction, held in Dubai in December 2023, the Virat Kohli-starrer added quite a few interesting names to their roster. Hence, there are strong hopes from the Bengaluru camp to go all the way in the upcoming season. At present, they are only among three sides (along with Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings) from the initial season who are yet to win a title. Will they turn it around this year? Only time will tell...
