Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni remains undecided on his IPL future yet, according to the franchise’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan, who says that they hope he (Dhoni) gives his confirmation before the submission deadline (Oct 31). Per the latest reports, CSK's top brass is awaiting Dhoni’s decision before listing their retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction later next month.

"We have still no confirmation from him, though we will like him to continue playing for us," Viswanathan said in a chat with ESPNcricinfo. "Hope he will confirm before 31st [October]."

Meanwhile, the IPL’s governing council and the BCCI kept October 31 as the deadline for all teams to submit their final retention list.&nbsp;

With the reintroduction of an IPL rule, scrapped in 2021, any player who last played for his country at least five years ago is eligible to play as an uncapped player. MS Dhoni, who announced his international retirement on August 20, 2020, ticks this box, becoming eligible to play as an uncapped player for CSK should he be retained.

While Dhoni’s last international tournament was the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, which the hosts won, Dhoni played in the cash-rich league since.&nbsp;

Before the start of IPL 2024, Dhoni relinquished the CSK captaincy, handing over the baton to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. In his first season as the new CSK skipper, Gaikwad failed to guide CSK to the playoffs.

MS Dhoni, however, with a troubled knee, scored 161 runs at a whopping strike rate of 220 as a finisher.

<h2>For how much can CSK retain MS Dhoni?</h2>

Should MS give a green signal about his IPL 2025 participation, CSK would retain their former captain for just INR 4 crore from the 120-crore auction purse.

All 10 IPL teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, of which a maximum of five can be capped internationals, leaving room for an uncapped player.&nbsp;

Besides, the IPL has set the minimum deduction from the purse auction for each player retained (order wise) – with the first player to cost a franchise INR 18 crore, the second INR 14 crore, INR 11 crore for the third one, INR 18 crore for the next, and INR 14 crore for the fifth and final player, though the teams are free to pay more than these figures to their retained players.

Last-year runners-up, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), is the only team to have made their retention list public, with them paying INR 23 crore to Heinrich Klaasen, INR 18 crore to their captain Pat Cummins, and INR 14 crore to opener Abhishek Sharma.&nbsp;

‘Hope he will confirm…’ - MS Dhoni undecided over IPL 2025 participation, says CSK's Kasi Viswanathan

Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni are the two most successful IPL captains, having won five titles each with Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), respectively. Even though both share common leadership traits and have tactical heads over their shoulders, Rohit’s MI had outdone Dhoni’s CSK in three IPL finals.&nbsp;

Harbhajan Singh, the former multi-time IPL winner and among the handful of players who represented both franchises, revealed why Mumbai Indians were better than Dhoni's CSK in crunch situations.

Though CSK’s maiden title came in 2010 when they beat the home side (Mumbai Indians), the Mumbai-based outfit beat CSK in three IPL finals since (2013, 2015 and 2019), with Rohit leading against Dhoni on all occasions.

So, what did they do better to go one step ahead of the genius of MS Dhoni? Harbhajan Singh explains.

“The tricks Dhoni used to come up with, we worked to find a solution,” Harbhajan said in a chat with Sports Yaari. “In pressure situations, MI did better than CSK. When I left MI to join CSK, I got a lot of love. Bowled well and won a championship, got a runners-up medal as well.”

“In that match (IPL 2018), Dwayne Bravo's magical batting and Kedar Jadhav's show earned CSK the title. Else, MI would've won again. To overcome Dhoni, you have to think better, play your cards better. It isn't easy. MI have done it as they had better players, and the planning was also good," Harbhajan noted while recalling the close group stage encounter between both teams in IPL 2018.

<h2>Rohit is no less than Dhoni</h2>

MS Dhoni is by far the only captain in cricket history to win three ICC titles, besides winning the Test mace in 2009. Since he left, first Virat Kohli and now Rohit Sharma have carried forward the legacy; Harbhajan feels like every captain Rohit tasted his share of success and no less than anyone regarding helping strengthen India’s stance on the world stage.

“Why do you compare the two? Dhoni led the team and took it forward; Rohit is also doing the same. Every cup you win, you put hope in others. That is important. The better captain is the one who inspires you to win. If we talk about achievements, Rohit is not lesser than Dhoni. Dada, Kohli, Dhoni, Rohit, everyone has contributed in their own way to take the team forward. Now, the fight is within to take the team even a step further," the former India spinner added.

‘Rohit is no less than Dhoni’ – Harbhajan Singh recalls how ‘MI tactics’ outdone MSD in three IPL finals

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auctions fast approaching, franchises are set to lay out plans for the next campaign. Part of the conversation could see Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retain a chunk of star names including Ravindra Jadeja and Gaikwad. However, the biggest name that is in the headlines is MS Dhoni as fans await his future. According to reports, CSK will retain Dhoni if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approves amendments to the retention policy.

<h2>CSK set to retain Dhoni?</h2>

According to reliable media reports, the CSK have shortlisted names to be retained for the IPL 2025. This includes Jadeja and Gaikwad while Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana are also in the hat. However, Dhoni remains the biggest name that CSK are looking to retain. It is reported that CSK will retain Dhoni once they get the green light from the BCCI for retention policy amendments.

If that is the case, part of the agreement remains that Dhoni will be retained as the lowest bid category as per mutual agreement.

The legendary former India captain will turn 44 in 2025 indicating his days are numbered as a playing sensation. Like IPL 2024, it is expected that the upcoming season will be Dhoni’s last for the franchise before he announces his retirement from professional cricket.

While his status as a legend remains intact, he will look to add more titles to his trophy cabinet. He has lifted the IPL title on five occasions, being captain on all those occasions. He also lifted the now-abolished Champions League on two occasions.

<h2>Jadeja, Gaikwad retain faith</h2>

Jadeja who has previously been on the hotspot for a reported spat with the CSK management will be retained. It is expected that he will be the most valuable retention at the franchise while Gaikwad will be retained as the captain of the side. In case the BCCI approves the retention amendments, Shivam Dube will be the third Indian player on the list along with Pathirana. In case the retention policy is amended, CSK will release Dube for auctions and retain Dhoni.

CSK set to retain Jadeja, Ruturaj for IPL 2025; Dhoni retention subject to policy amendment from BCCI: Reports

Tushar Deshpande is an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) line-up. After joining the team in 2022, he didn't have the best of starts. Since 2023, he has been able to turn things around and become a regular in the playing XI. In 2023, he ended with 21 scalps as MS Dhoni &amp; Co. won the title for the fifth time. In 2024, he returned with 17 wickets. Although Deshpande has been expensive occasionally, he has made a mark of taking wickets at crucial junctures. The 29-year-old,&nbsp;who recently made his international debut during the Zimbabwe tour, recalled how Dhoni groomed him when he joined CSK and the advice he received from the India legend.

Talking to ESPNCricinfo, Deshpande said, "[Dhoni told me]: 'You have everything to succeed at international level. But you have to be calm during your run-up. Don't get distracted by the crowd. Just take a deep breath, stay calm and bowl.' If Mahi tells you that you have everything to be successful at the international level, boss, that itself is an achievement."

Deshpande recalled IPL 2023's opening game between then defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and CSK, in Ahmedabad. Back then, the Yellow Army failed to defend 178/7, with the Chennai pacer ending with figures of 3.2-0-51-1. Dhoni, however, backed Deshpande as the speedster remembered the former Indian captain saying, "Mahi came to me and said: 'You haven't made any mistakes. You bowled all good balls. It was not your day today. In the next match repeat the same."

However, Deshpande's biggest learning from Dhoni came during a match simulation in the CSK nets. He revealed, "I was bowling good yorkers, but suddenly I bowled a bouncer and got hit for a 100-metre six. He asked me: 'Kyun daala bouncer?' [Why did you bowl the bouncer?] I told him I thought he was expecting the yorker. He told me: Don't play cricket in the mind. Yorker is a yorker and no one can hit you."

Deshpande added, "He was telling me we keep trying to play ahead of the game instead of staying in the present. The other thing he told me is to focus on my fitness, which is important for fast bowlers."

Under Dhoni, Deshpande has improved his bowling and made his international debut during India's five T20Is versus hosts Zimbabwe, following the 2024 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, there remains no clarity regarding Dhoni's IPL future. He was succeeded by Ruturaj Gaikwad as the CSK captain ahead of IPL 2024.&nbsp;

'Dhoni hit me for a 100m six, asked 'why did you bowl a bouncer?': CSK pacer recalls advice from India legend

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain and IPL veteran MS Dhoni could play as an uncapped player for the franchise next season, as BCCI mulls reactivating old rule, per the latest reports. In a sensational development, the former five-time winners could retain Dhoni under the uncapped player category ahead of the mega auction - a win-win situation for both MSD and CSK.

The Indian Board is said to be returning to&nbsp;its old&nbsp;rule, which says that&nbsp;any international cricketer who has retired for over five years shall be put in the uncapped player category.&nbsp;

Dhoni, who last played for India during the 2019 ODI World Cup and announced his retirement on August 15, 2020, completed five years and is now eligible to play as an uncapped player in the Indian Premier League.&nbsp;Moreover, this will also help CSK retain other players at higher prices, as for the uncapped ones, per the previous rule, the franchises can have their services for as high as INR 4 crore. During the last mega auction in 2022, CSK retained Dhoni for INR 12 crore.

<h2>BCCI likely to reactivate 'old rule'</h2>

Following the high-profile meeting between the BCCI and IPL team owners on July 31 in Mumbai, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan revealed the board itself mentioned that they could reactivate this rule.&nbsp;

"I've no idea about it. We've not requested for it. They (the BCCI) have themselves told us that the 'uncapped player rule' may be kept, that's all. They (the BCCI) haven't announced anything as yet. The rules and regulations will be announced by the BCCI,” Kasi said during a chat with Times of India (TOI).&nbsp;

Meanwhile, during a promotional event in Hyderabad earlier this year, Dhoni commented on his prospect of playing the next IPL season.

“There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but it needs to be in the best interest of the team,” Dhoni said.

MS Dhoni to play as ‘uncapped player’ for CSK in IPL 2025 as BCCI mulls reactivating old rule – Reports

Former India great and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni awaits changes in the revised ‘IPL retention policy’ before taking a final call on his future in the cash-rich league.&nbsp;

Following the much-talked-about governing council meeting late on Wednesday night (July 31) in Mumbai, the BCCI and IPL will come out with the final decision on the players’ retention and the future of the mega auction sooner. Dhoni, who turned 43 in July this year, says he has time and several factors to consider before going public with his decision.

"There is a lot of time for it," Dhoni said at an event in Hyderabad, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. "We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court.

"So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team,” he continued.

Meanwhile, the BCCI met IPL franchise owners and other stakeholders to discuss several topics, with the agenda including discussions on the future of the Impact Player rule, which the BCCI introduced in 2022; how many player retentions should happen and how often should a mega auction take place?

Considering MS Dhoni’s age and reflexes, which looks far from diminishing, he used the Impact Player Rule to his advantage in IPL 2024. With the latest reports suggesting that some team owners have urged the board to scrap this rule, Dhoni’s future could hang in limbo.

<h2>Time is inching closer</h2>

Just before the start of IPL 2024, MS Dhoni relinquished the CSK captaincy, handing over the baton to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. That step, however, cleared some air over Dhoni’s IPL future, with everyone anticipating the end of his cricketing career.&nbsp;

However, with Dhoni showing a willingness to continue being part of the squad for perhaps one more season, eyeing his record sixth IPL trophy, the chances of him staying around are also there.

In IPL 2024, Dhoni made headlines for smashing humongous sixes, bashing 13 and 14 fours, respectively. His strike rate of 220.54 was enough to keep CSK in the playoff race until they lost an away thriller to bow out of the tournament.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is an IPL legend. In 264 contested matches, he scored 5243 runs, striking at over 137. Dhoni had led CSK to joint-most five IPL trophies, last won in 2023.&nbsp;

Time is inching closer Just before the start of IPL 2024, MS Dhoni relinquished the CSK captaincy, handing over the baton to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. That step, however, cleared some air over Dhoni’s IPL future, with everyone anticipating the end of his cricketing career. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is an IPL legend. In 264 contested matches, he scored 5243 runs, striking at over 137. Dhoni had led CSK to joint-most five IPL trophies, last won in 2023. (With inputs from agencies)

MS Dhoni waiting for revised ‘retention policies’ to decide on IPL future

Delhi Capitals captain and ace keeper-batter Rishabh Pant could join MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in a trade deal ahead of IPL 2025, per the latest reports. The most capped Delhi player, Pant, could switch bases for the first time since his league debut, as franchise owners are undecided on his retention. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giant captain (LSG) KL Rahul might leave the team and rejoin Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the upcoming season.

Pant returned to on-field cricket last year for the first time since suffering multiple injuries in a horrific road accident on New Year’s Eve in 2022. After NCA cleared him to take the field, Pant returned to captain Delhi Capitals last year. Following a shallow start to the 17th edition, Pant was among the runs, finishing the tournament with 446 runs in 13 innings, averaging 40.55.

However, despite his valiant efforts as a captain and batter, he failed to guide his team to a playoff finish, as they ended up sixth on the points table, with seven wins and as many losses.&nbsp;

With head coach Ricky Ponting also departing and considering the mega auction will take place ahead of the next season, DC’s decision-makers are contemplating removing Pant from the captaincy and trading with a player at CSK.

And being unclear about MS Dhoni’s participation in the next edition, Pant’s trade to the franchise could be a win-win situation for both the team and the batter.&nbsp;

But, per a report in Dainik Jagran, Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly wishes to stick with Pant as a marquee player in the side going forward.

<h2>Rahul to lead RCB</h2>

KL Rahul has been the mainstay for LSG since the side’s debut in 2022. But after what unfolded last year following the game against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), when owner Sanjeev Goenka publicly lashed out at his team’s captain, the relationship between the two turned sour.

Although Goenka did invite Rahul over dinner at his place to mend things, it seemed to have gone too far by then.

Considering the new season is approaching, Rahul is reportedly returning to RCB and replacing Faf du Plessis as the side’s new captain. With Faf unlikely to get retained or picked at the auction table, given his age,&nbsp;he remains fittest among many. Rahul’s appointment as the new captain could help the owners build a team around him, aiming for the long-eluded IPL trophy.&nbsp;

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pace bowler Tushar Deshpande did not leave the opportunity to get even with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after the latter crashed out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday (May 22) against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Deshpande shared an Instagram story mocking the Bengaluru side but later deleted it due to public backlash. Deshpande, who finished the season with 17 wickets, shared a post by a CSK fan page which had an image of the Bengaluru Cant. Railway Station with the caption, “Nothing just a railway station in Bengaluru!”. The CSK seamer further wrote, “CSK fans are built different” while tagging the account. Deshpande was clapping back as RCB players had celebrated wildly after defeating CSK in the final league match of the tournament to qualify for the Eliminator. The defeat meant that CSK could not qualify for the playoffs for only the third time in tournament's 17-year history. However, RCB was criticised post the match as MS Dhoni walked off the pitch without shaking hands with the Bengaluru players who were oblivious and busy celebrating the win. Videos on social media showed Dhoni waiting for the RCB players to come around and do the obligatory handshake. However, after no one approached him, Dhoni made his way to the dressing room, prompting Virat Kohli to follow him inside and have a chat with the veteran star. You have to play with the same hunger," said Rayudu. "Don't think you will win the IPL trophy just by beating CSK. You will have to come next year once again," he added. I don't think in the past 16 years any Indian batter apart from Virat Kohli has scored more than 1,000 runs, and Virat is at 8,000. Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has revealed that he prefers Instagram as his preferred mode of social media over X (formerly Twitter). Dhoni, who has a relatively low-key social media presence, is only available to the fans during the Indian Premier League (IPL) and at the odd promotional events. Speaking on the Dubai Eye 103.8 YouTube channel, Dhoni said the reason for his preference was the less controversial nature of Instagram. "I prefer Instagram over Twitter. Twitter, I believe that nothing good has happened over Twitter. You know, especially in India, there is always a controversy. Somebody will write something, and it turns into a controversy. I was like, you know, why do I need to be there?" said Dhoni. "You know, it used to be 140 characters. You cannot elaborate. Imagine me putting something over there, and then it is left up to the people to read it, and they just interpret what they want to interpret," he added. The CSK batter said even though he preferred Instagram, he liked to stay less active on the platform since fewer distractions in life are better. "So, I'm like, no, no, that's not really for me. Instagram still, I like it because, you know, I could put up my picture or a video or something and just leave it. That is also changing no," said Dhoni. "So I still prefer Instagram, but I am not very active because, I don't know, I feel, you know, less distractions are better, but in between, on and off, I will put something for the fans, you know, so that they know, okay, I am somewhere good, you know, in good hands. So I am doing what I like," he added. Also read | IPL 2024: ‘We have seen the last of MS...,’ Dhoni to retire? Amid the speculations surrounding MS Dhoni's future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has provided an update. Dhoni did not hint at his potential retirement following CSK's last match of the season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), leading to specuation that he was planning to come back for one last hurrah. Viswanathan said there had not been "any discussions" regarding Dhoni's future so far, and that the former CSK captain would inform them about his decision at the right time. “There were no discussions in the dressing room about it. We have never asked him about his future and neither has he said anything about it. When he takes a decision, he will inform us, until then we will not interfere," Viswanathan told The Indian Express newspaper. CSK have to make the tough call on players it wants to hold onto ahead of the mega auctions planned by the BCCI. Since Dhoni is a luxury squad player at this stage in his career, retaining him will be a high risk for the franchise. If BCCI changes the retention rules and increases the number of players a club can retain, it could possibly influence Dhoni's decision as to whether or not to come back to play for the cricket-loving Chennai crowd. Dhoni's former CSK teammate Ambati Rayudu has already stated that 'Thala' would be coming back for the 2025 season. “I don’t think this is his last game. I just don’t see him wanting to end on this note,” Rayudu said on Star Sports. “With the impact player role as well, it gives him the opportunity to be able to come in those last few overs and truly make that impact," said Rayudu. “BCCI better not remove the impact player role because we still want to see MS Dhoni play. So, it’s up to BCCI now. Do we want to see MS Dhoni play or not,” he added. Also read | IPL 2024: ‘We have seen the last of MS...,’ Dhoni to retire? Former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain, Virat Kohli, has revealed his retirement plans, saying he would be away from the public limelight for a long time once he has decided to hang up his boots. Kohli, 35, is perhaps in the last stretch of his international career with many regarding the upcoming T20 World Cup as his last hurrah in the shortest format of the game. Quizzed during an RCB promotional event about his retirement and what fuels his insatiable hunger for excellence, the Indian batter gave a nuanced answer. "It's quite simple. I think as a sportsman, we do have an end-date to our careers. So I am just working backwards. I don't want to finish my career thinking 'oh, what if I have done this on that particular day' because I can't keep going on and on forever. So it's just about not leaving any undone business behind and not have any regrets later, which I am sure I won't," said Kohli. "Once I am done, I will be gone, you won't see me for a while (smiles). So I want to give it everything I have till the time I play, and that's the only thing that keeps me going," he added. As the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) heads into its business end, all eyes are on the final round-robin match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday (May 18). The match could potentially decide which team heads into the playoffs but there is a high possibility that it may get washed out due to the rain threat looming large. According to weather reports, there is a 73 per cent chance of rain during the daytime which is expected to rise to 80 per cent around 6 pm. Apart from the rainfall, the meteorologists have predicted thunderstorms which further dents the chances of the game being completed. The only saving grace remains the state-of-the-art outfield at Chinnaswamy, known for its superb drainage system. If the rain stays put for a few hours, despite the match starting late, the ground will be ready for a full match. While RCB need a definite win and few other results to go its way, a no-result will allow CSK to make it to the top-4 and challenge for a title defence. RCB have staged a remarkable comeback in the second half of the tournament, winning five consecutive matches to revive their playoff aspirations. The batters have been firing all cylinders and it has made the contest, which otherwise would have been a dead rubber - the most anticipated of the round. Former New Zealand cricketer and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach, Stephen Fleming, is being touted as BCCI's favourite to replace Rahul Dravid, according to a report in&nbsp;Indian Express.&nbsp;

BCCI on Monday (May 13) opened the process to select the next head coach for the senior men's cricket team. The last date for the submission of the application is May 27 i.e. the day of the IPL final.&nbsp;

If Fleming does indeed take the job, it will mean he would have to give up on his franchise commitments. The Indian head coach job requires the candidate to be with the team for 10 months a year.&nbsp;

Additionally,&nbsp;Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, has made it clear that there will be no split coaching duties - meaning Fleming will have to chalk plans for the three formats.

Langer is currently serving as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) head coach, having previously coached Australia to T20 World Cup victory in 2021 while retaining the Ashes on two separate occasions viz,. 2019 and 2021. BCCI eyeing CSK head coach Stephen Fleming as Rahul Dravid’s successor: Report

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was given out for obstructing the field during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday (May 12) evening.&nbsp;Jadeja was adjudged out in a rather unconventional manner as he attempted to steal a second run with the match tantalisingly poised for a grandstand finish.&nbsp;

The incident transpired in the 16th over of the match with CSK requiring 22 runs for the win. Facing the penultimate ball of the over bowled by Avesh Khan, Jadeja bunted a short of good length delivery down to third man and called for a double.&nbsp;

However, the fielder arrived on the ball early and released it to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson. Jadeja, meanwhile, set off for the second run, only to be sent back by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad who had no interest in taking the extra run. Stranded in the middle of the pitch, Jadeja turned and attempted to&nbsp;make a late dash to the crease.

Samson, upon collecting the ball took a shy at the non-striker's&nbsp;stump but only managed to hit Jadeja who was running in front of the stumps. The umpires went upstairs where the third umpire, after multiple replays, concluded that Jadeja had indeed changed his path deliberately to avoid getting runout.&nbsp;

While it looked like Jadeja had no choice to turn around and run in the trajectory he followed, third umpire Anil Chaudhary asserted that the CSK batter had looked behind for the throw from Samson and adjusted his position accordingly.

Ahead of the final home game of the season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday (May 12) requested its fans to stay back in the stadium after the end of the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The franchise released a statement saying it had "planned something&nbsp;special", and it needed fans to hang around.&nbsp;

There has been a huge demand of tickets for CSK's final league match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Speculations are rife that it could be MS Dhoni's last hurrah in front of the passionate Chepauk crowd as a place in the top 4 is not yet guaranteed for CSK.

<h2>Dhoni on his future</h2>

Dhoni is a five-time champion with CSK, having led the franchise since its inception. Quizzed last year about his retirement&nbsp;after CSK won the final against Gujarat Titans, Dhoni said he wanted to come back for the fans one more time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Circumstantially if you see, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say ‘Thank you very much’, but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another nine&nbsp;months and come back and play at least one&nbsp;more season of IPL,” Dhoni told commentator Harsha Bhogle.&nbsp;

"A lot depends on the body, I have 6-7 months to decide. It will be more like a gift from my side, it's not easy for me but that's a gift. The way they've shown their love and affection, I think that's something I need to do for them," he added.&nbsp;

Dhoni underwent a knee surgery and despite playing no professional cricket since then, has been one of the most dangerous death-over batters in the league.

<h2>Raina makes bold claim</h2>

Earlier this season, Dhoni's close friend and former teammate, Suresh Raina, claimed that Dhoni will be back for IPL 2025. Quizzed&nbsp;during a discussion on Jio Cinema if the ex-CSK skipper will turn up in 2025, Raina gave a one-word reply.&nbsp;

"Khelenge (He'll play)," said Raina with a wry smile.&nbsp;

Raina's former Indian teammate RP Singh, sitting beside him also agreed that Dhoni might give the fans another year of his services.&nbsp;

"It doesn't seem like this will be his last season," said Singh.&nbsp;

If CSK do advance to the playoffs, there could be a possibility that the Chepauk crowd might get to witness Dhoni in action again. Qualifier 2 and the big final will be taking place in Chennai - meaning, Dhoni could be there for his swansong.&nbsp;

IPL 2024: MS Dhoni to play his last match? CSK requests fans to stay back after clash vs RR

Amid mounting criticism from former players as to why MS Dhoni was batting extremely low down the order for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), it has been reported that the former captain's delayed arrival at the crease was due to an injury he was nursing.

Amid mounting criticism from former players as to why MS Dhoni was batting extremely low down the order for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), it has been reported that the former captain's delayed arrival at the crease was due to an injury he was nursing. Ever since Dhoni came down at no. 9 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), the likes of Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh have launched an attack on him, suggesting that the former Indian batter should not be part of the playing XI if he cannot come up the order. However, a report in the Times of India, citing CSK sources, claims that Dhoni has a muscle tear in his leg which has reduced his ability to run for too long. The injury happened early on in the season but due to the absence of the team's second wicketkeeper - Devon Conway, who is also out due to injury, Dhoni has been forced to take the field. Dhoni is reportedly taking medicines before coming to bat or field and has actively attempted to minimise his running. Notably, in one of the previous matches, Dhoni had refused a single to Daryl Mitchell in the last over and later got a runout on the final ball, taking the extra run. "We are virtually playing with our ‘B' team. Those who are criticizing Dhoni don't know the sacrifice that he is doing for this team," the CSK source was quoted as saying. Also read | 'Include a pacer than send MS Dhoni at No. 9' - Harbhajan SLAMS CSK star for his batting slot vs PBKS What did Harbhajan say? During the match, Harbhajan came down heavy on Dhoni as well as the CSK think tank. The former off-spinner said Dhini should not be playing and instead his spot should go to a pacer. "MS Dhoni shouldn't play if he wants to bat at the number 9 slot. It is better to include a fast bowler than him in the playing XI. He is the decision-maker and has let down his team by not coming out to bat," said Harbhajan on Star Sports. “CSK were in a need of quick runs and Dhoni has done that in the previous games. It was shocking that he stayed back in the important contest against Punjab Kings. Even if CSK win today, I will still call out Dhoni. Let people say anything. I will say what is right." CSK are currently in the top 4 but will need to keep their winning streak going to secure a playoff spot. One slip-up and the five-time champions may slide down the table into the mid-table logjam where several teams are sitting on the same points. (With inputs from agencies)

IPL 2024: Reason behind MS Dhoni's decision to bat down the order revealed

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has slammed MS Dhoni for batting as low as No. 9 during Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) clash versus Punjab Kings in match 53 of the IPL 2024 edition on Sunday (May 5). Locking horns at the picturesque&nbsp;Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala, Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK thrashed Punjab by 28 runs after defending 167 for 9 with ease. Sam Curran-led PBKS only managed 139-9 in return after opting to bowl first. Despite the win, former CSK spinner Harbhajan has slammed Dhoni for coming out to bat at No. 9.

Since the 2023 edition, Dhoni has been in decent form but has batted very low; at No. 6 or below. While many feel his fitness issues have&nbsp;prevented him from batting ahead, Harbhajan -- and many others -- expected Dhoni to come out early when CSK were reeling at 75 for 4 in less than 10 overs. He came out to bat at No. 9, in the penultimate over&nbsp;and was dismissed for a golden duck. Thus, Bhajji lashed out at the legendary captain for not taking more responsibility with the bat. He feels Ruturaj&nbsp;&amp; Co. should play an extra pacer if Dhoni has to bat so low, even after Shardul Thakur.

<h2>'Nothing happens without his permission and I am not ready to accept that...'</h2>

Speaking on Star Sports, during the halfway stage, Harbhajan said, "MS Dhoni shouldn't play if he wants to bat at the number 9 slot. It is better to include a fast bowler than him in the playing XI. He is the decision-maker and has let down his team by not coming out to bat."

He&nbsp;further opined, “Shardul Thakur came ahead of him. Thakur can never hit shots like Dhoni and I don't understand why Dhoni made this mistake. Nothing happens without his permission and I am not ready to accept that this decision to demote him was taken by someone else."

“CSK were in a need of quick runs and Dhoni has done that in the previous games. It was shocking that he stayed back in the important contest against Punjab Kings. Even if CSK win today, I will still call out Dhoni. Let people say anything. I will say what is right,” Harbhajan added.

Meanwhile, Chennai captain Ruturaj reflected on his side's first-ever win over Punjab in the last six meetings and said at the post-match presentation, "Everyone believed the wicket was slow. Even low bounce. Just that the start we got, we were thinking of pushing till 180-200. After losing wickets, thought 160-170 was a good score. Don't know what he's doing, but even in pre-season he was clocking 150kph (on Simarjeet). He didn't get too many chances, but it's never too late. Were thinking of going with an impact batter, but then we thought the batter will give 10-15 runs, but he could give 2-3 wickets. Some of the guys were struggling with flu. Weren't even sure till the morning who's playing or not. To get the win, really happy with that."

CSK are at the third spot with 12 points from 11 games and are very much in contention to qualify for the playoffs. The Yellow Army fans will hope for Dhoni to bat a little higher and continue to strike in the manner he has in the ongoing edition. In IPL 2024, he is striking at&nbsp;224.49 with 110 runs in 49 balls.

In the lead-up to the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday (May 5), head coach Stephen Fleming had provided a grim outlook of the squad. CSK are already without the services of an injured Deepak Chahar while Mustafizur Rahman has returned to Bangladesh due to national team commitments.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Deepak Chahar doesn't look good. Initial feeling wasn't great. So we are waiting for more positive report. Physio and doctors will have a look. Sri Lankan boys are off to get visa. So we are hoping that their process is smooth. And we get them back for our next game up north (at Dharamshala)," said Fleming earlier this week.&nbsp;

"Tushar Deshpande got flu, so we had to make a few changes today, which is a bit unusual. But again that's part of it and we have got resources. It's just they haven't got time to be comfortable about their roles and us to be comfortable with the game plan that we are struggling with," Fleming added.

MS Dhoni’s CSK gave Pathirana a platform to blossom into the cricketer he is today, and the youngster is all but grateful for that. Speaking on the latest episode of ‘Lions Upclose’, Pathirana expressed his gratitude to Dhoni, saying the India veteran is like a fatherly figure to him on the cricket field. Pathirana’s inclusion helped CSK win the IPL last season, picking 19 wickets from 12 matches at an economy of 8.01. Meanwhile, in six games played in IPL 2024 thus far, Pathirana has already picked 13 wickets at a better economy of under eight. Detailing what it means to have Dhoni by his side, Pathirana said how his father takes care of him at home, MS also ensures Pathirana is in the right space in IPL. The Sri Lankan seamer added Dhoni generally doesn’t talk much during the game but keeps giving him crucial advice off the field. "He's not telling a lot of things when I am on the field and off the field. He tells just small things, but it makes a lot of difference. So those little things, I take a lot of confidence (from)," he continued. ‘He’s approachable’ Echoing the exact words of countless MS ex-teammates of how approachable the CSK captain is, Pathirana said whenever he needs Dhoni’s advice, he reaches out to him without hesitation. "Off the field, we don't talk that much; but if I have to ask something from him, definitely I would go to him and ask. Every time he is telling me, 'enjoy your game and take care of your body'." Meanwhile, as things stand, Chennai is sitting in the fifth spot with five wins and as many losses in IPL 2024.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will look to come out of the two-loss rut against high-flying SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on April 28. While SRH too lost their last game against last-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), they are still at the forefront of the redefined high-scoring season.

SRH currently are placed third on the 10-team points table with five wins and three losses in eight games while CSK find themselves in the lower half with four wins and four losses in eight games played so far.

CSK are going in a pattern as of now, starting with two wins then losing two with the same cycle repeating for the next four games.&nbsp;Their last two losses came against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), one at home and one away as they look to get a grip on their season with playoffs approaching.

SRH, on the other hand, have redefined batting this season, especially in the powerplay with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma leading the charge. The duo has been aptly supported by Heinrich Klaasen in the middle with Nitish Reddy and Abdul Samad doing damage lower down the order.

SRH have gone past 200 five times this season - four while batting first and one while chasing - and lost only while chasing that too by just four runs, scoring 204 in reply to Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) 208.

Playing at home certainly gives some advantage to CSK but SRH will be buoyed by LSG chasing down 210 in the last match at Chepauk. Similarly, CSK would be hoping to reprise RCB's act of using the spinners in the powerplay to pin down SRH openers.

With more than half the season done, the game becomes crucial for CSK more so than SRH as they look for rise above the mid-table logjam, especially with Delhi Capitals turning things around.

IPL 2024 CSK vs SRH, Match 46 Preview: Chennai aim to bounce back from consecutive losses vs Hyderabad at home

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) returned to winning ways on Sunday (Apr 28), defeating SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 78 runs after captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (98) played another masterful knock to set up the game nicely for the home side. Chasing a daunting target of 213, SRH's famed top-order could not get going as Tushar Deshpande struck thrice in the powerplay, ensuring that the 2016 champions always played the catch-up game.&nbsp;

Dangerman Travis Head was the first to depart as he scythed a wide outside off delivery, straight into the big mittens of Daryl Mitchell stationed on the deep point boundary. On the very next delivery, impact sub Anmolpreet Singh returned to the pavilion as the ball kissed the leading edge and went towards Moeen Ali on the ring.&nbsp;

Abhishek Sharma, one of the most lethal hitters of the tournament, did thump a few lusty blows but even he fell to Deshpande's guile. Nitish Reddy forged a brief 32-run partnership with Aiden Markram but never looked threatening.&nbsp;

Skipper Gaikwad brought Matheesha Pathirana after the halfway mark and he instantly made an impact by flattening the middle stump of Markram. The South African's wicket was perhaps the final nail in the coffin for SunRisers who never recovered from there and eventually went down with a whimper.&nbsp;

Having lost the toss yet again, CSK were invited to bat first on a track that was conducive to stroke-making. However, SRH bowlers kept a tight lid on proceedings at the start and managed to get Ajinkya Rahane's number, whose poor form with the bat continued.&nbsp;

Mitchell shrugged off his woes with the bat by smashing his maiden IPL half-century while Gaikwad, looking imperious yet again, fell two runs short of back-to-back centuries. However, by the time both batters were dismissed, CSK were well on their way to a total above 200. Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni applied the finishing touches as the hosts finished with a competitive 212 on board.&nbsp;

CSK vs SRH IPL Match Highlights: Chennai beat Hyderabad by 78 runs at Chepauk

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey has backed allrounder Ravindra Jadeja after his promotion to no. 4 in the batting lineup has invited criticism from the fans and pundits alike. Jadeja has been called out for his poor rotation of strike and inability to strike the long ball early in the innings.&nbsp;

However, the CSK coach downplayed the criticism saying Jadeja was playing a different role and that he was adapting to the various situations he had been sent into.&nbsp;

"He (Jadeja) is playing a different role. In the last few years, he had come in late to bat in the back end. This year, we have asked him to come in at the No. 4 position. Sometimes, according to the situation, you need to be free and go quickly," said Hussey.&nbsp;

"But other times, you can take a bit of time to build a partnership when a couple of wickets fall in the powerplay. He is doing a pretty good job of reading the situation and playing accordingly."

<h2>CSK lose two on bounce</h2>

Jadeja was given the additional batting responsibilities in the last two matches - both against Lucknow Super Giants. The left-hander walked out to bat after CSK lost two quick wickets in the powerplay and was forced to do the rebuild job.&nbsp;

"If you look at his (Jadeja’s) innings against LSG in Lucknow, he scored quickly. His fifty came off 30-odd balls, he was able to find the boundaries quickly. His strengths are working the ball into the gaps using the pace, running between the wickets and picking the right time to attack the right bowlers," added Hussey.&nbsp;

IPL 2024: CSK coach Michael Hussey comes in defence of Ravindra Jadeja over batting concerns

Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has slammed media publications for attributing false remarks to him that went viral on social media. After Rayudu's former franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), lost the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), he was quoted to have criticised captain Rutuiraj Gaikwad for his poor field placements.&nbsp;

Rayudu, who retired from IPL last year, took to his social media handles and released a statement saying he was not even on commentary duties on the day of the match. Instead, he was 'picking mangoes' at his farm.&nbsp;

“I was not even commentating on the said day...I was at my farm picking mangoes... please be responsible when writing something...don’t spread nonsense," said Rayudu while reposting the contentious articles.&nbsp;

<h2>Comments taken out of context</h2>

Notably, it is not the first instance when Rayudu has been caught in a storm for his comments, or the lack thereof. After his statement about the difference in culture in the Chennai and Mumbai franchises went viral, Rayudu had to come out in a damage-control mode.&nbsp;

Rayudu said his comments were taken out of context and that he was only talking about how MI's process is different&nbsp;and "there is positive pressure in which a player is forged".

"I have loved my 8 years at MI..am ever grateful... @mipaltan, please win some games fast," Rayudu said in a post on X, former Twitter.

After Rayudu's former franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), lost the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), he was quoted to have criticised captain Rutuiraj Gaikwad for his poor field placements. Rayudu, who retired from IPL last year, took to his social media handles and released a statement saying he was not even on commentary duties on the day of the match. Instead, he was 'picking mangoes' at his farm. “I was not even commentating on the said day...I was at my farm picking mangoes... please be responsible when writing something...don’t spread nonsense," said Rayudu while reposting the contentious articles. https://t.co/2bzFkwTpn9 @MensXP I was not even commentating on the said day.. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Marcus Stoinis produced one of the finest T20 performances on Tuesday (Apr 23) to tame Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on their home turf at Chepauk. Post the Australian's on-field heroics, LSG's social media team shared a video where Stoinis could be seen explaining how MS Dhoni simplified his approach towards the game, especially while chasing a target.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Stoinis applied the advice to good effect against Dhoni's team and helped LSG do the double over record champions within the space of a week.&nbsp;

"MS Dhoni told this one thing to me. He said in big games, everyone thinks that I've got to do something extra. I've got to do something different. His mantra and how he speaks to himself is he stays there, he stands still and he says everyone else is going to change," said Stoinis.&nbsp;

"I'm going to be the only one here that doesn't change and that holds him ahead of everyone else.," Stoinis said in the video," he added.

IPL 2024: Marcus Stoinis reveals mantra given by MS Dhoni he used to annihilate CSK

In match 39 of IPL 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) rode on Ruturaj Gaikwad's sublime 108* to post 210/4 versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday (April 23). In reply, Lucknow managed to edge past Chennai courtesy of Marcus Stoinis' 124 not out in the last over. With this, CSK have now lost two games on the trot, both to Lucknow, and need to up their game to stay alive in the playoffs race. After the game, head coach Stephen Fleming reacted to Chennai's overall campaign so far, which has been inconsistent, and admitted that the defending champions aren't 'firing on all cylinders'.

At the post-match press conference, Fleming said, "Ruturaj did that today, so hopefully he can continue his form and the others can pick that up... We're not firing on all cylinders by any means but we're in each game and we're asking teams to play well to beat us. We just got to get a little bit better."

The New Zealander also spoke about preparing to find the perfect combination as wily pacer Mustafizur Rahman's departure nears. It is to be noted that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not extended the NOC for the pacer and, thus, he would need to move out of the IPL on May 1. The speedster has been a vital cog in the CSK line-up, taking 12 wickets -- most from Chennai and fourth overall.

In this regard, Fleming opined, "We've got another change coming up with Mustafizur [leaving] in a couple of games. So, we're just trying to prepare and get a side that will give us the run home. We've had injuries, we've been a little bit unsettled, but the main thing is getting guys in key areas and in form. That sometimes takes a bit of time." He added, "Yes, there has been more change; some were forced upon us and some of it is form."

Chennai are out of the top four and currently occupy the fifth spot, with four wins and an equal number of losses. They remain at home for their next two games, hosting the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) respectively before being on the road. Thus, they need to make the most of their upcoming home encounters and gain more consistency.

CSK vs LSG: 'We're not firing on all cylinders' - Fleming reacts after Stoinis' heroics blow away Yellow Army

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has slammed Chennai Super Kings (CSK)&nbsp;captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for dropping Rachin Ravindra during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday (Apr 23).&nbsp;

Sehwag said Gaikwad was deviating from CSK's core philosophy of giving the long rope to players by making constant changes to the squad composition.&nbsp;

“They aren't playing bad, but this is the first time I have seen Chennai making constant changes. Gaikwad was opening, then Rahane was sent top of the order, now Gaikwad is back as opener and today Rachin Ravindra has been given a break. These are not good signs for CSK," said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.

Sehwag said the Kiwi batter was not even batting poorly which warranted exclusion from the squad.&nbsp;

"Every time they have done that, they failed to make the playoffs. It's not that Rachin batted horribly so far, couple of his innings were good. Usually, CSK stick with the players," said the ex-Indian opener.&nbsp;

"But first they benched Daryl Mitchell, now Rachin, it could be someone else in the next game. These are not good changes. And these are not tactical changes. I feel CSK look in bit of a haste in making these changes in the last few matches."

CSK's success over the years in the tournament has been built on the belief that players should be given a consistent run to show their true potential. Head coach Stephen Fleming and former captain MS Dhoni instilled the philosophy that has served the franchise well so far, as the five trophies show.&nbsp;

Ruturaj lost the toss yet again as LSG captain KL Rahul opted to bowl first. Rahane opened the batting alongside Gaikwad but the former could not get going and lost to the guile of Matt Henry who bowled excellent lines to set him up.&nbsp;

Mitchell's poor form with the bat continued as he played a laborious 10-ball 11-run innings before being dismissed by Yash Thakur. CSK management persisted with Ravindra Jadeja on the no. 4 spot but the southpaw could not impose himself on the game and departed in the 12th over.&nbsp;

IPL 2024: ‘These are not good signs,’ Sehwag blasts CSK for dropping Rachin Ravindra

With stardom comes speculations, and Suresh Raina has faced the brunt of it. India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Raina addressed the long-pending rumour surrounding his absence from IPL 2020 (in the UAE). While several reports suggested he got into a rift with the team management over not getting a balcony room, Raina rubbished all those reports, saying the reality was something else.

In a tell-all interview with Lallantop, Raina revealed the real reason behind opting against playing for CSK that season. Squashing all the rubbish reports of not playing because of not getting the balcony room, Raina said due to bereavement in his family, he remained unavailable for selection and left the bio-bubble to be with his near and dear ones.

“There was bereavement in the family. In my uncle's family, there were deaths. A group of gangsters killed the entire family. It happened in Pathankot."

“So, I went there. But there was a bio-bubble in the IPL, where you couldn't return. My father was very upset."&nbsp;

“When the Kachche gang did what they did, my entire family was under stress. I thought cricket came next; I could play anytime; first, my family was important,” Raina revealed.

<h2>‘Family comes first’</h2>

Speaking further on this, Raina said he did tell MS Dhoni and the team management, as everyone was on the same page on why he headed home, remaining unavailable for selection for the complete season.

“Yes, I told this to MS Dhoni and the team management,” Raina continued. “Family comes first.”

However, upon his return to the franchise the next season in 2021, Chennai beat Kolkata in the final to win the IPL trophy for the fourth time. That edition was also Raina’s last season in the cash-rich league before announcing his retirement.

"Then I returned, we played the 2021 season. We won the trophy,” he said. "But the previous year, the family was in chaos. They were all in depression already due to Covid-19 and then this happened."

"I thought I should go home and be with my family,” Raina added.

The left-handed batter Raina added that considering the condition worldwide because of the COVID-19 virus, he couldn’t return to the setup because he had to be in a bio bubble for two weeks, so he decided to skip that season.

“Definitely (on the statement that bio-bubbles weren't safe). The virus was everywhere. Everybody was getting tested for Covid-19. Everybody was getting tested every day.”&nbsp;

“I couldn't go back because of the bio-security bubble. You have to be in isolation for 15 days before coming back. After that, you have to be tested. So I had to be in the hotel for 30 days. So, I thought it was not practical,” Raina added.

CSK legend Suresh Raina breaks silence on skipping IPL 2020, rubbishes reports of rift over ‘balcony room’

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Suresh Raina has taken a sly dig at the struggling and trophyless teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saying those who 'partied hard' were still without any silverware.&nbsp;

Raina's statement was a jab at the likes of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) who are yet to win an IPL trophy in the tournament's 17-year&nbsp;history.&nbsp;

"Chennai never partied. That's why they have been the most successful. 2-3 teams who partied have not won the IPL yet," Raina told Lallantop.&nbsp;

Quizzed if he was referring to RCB in particular, Raina had a chuckle but did not name drop any team.&nbsp;

"No, there are a few teams who haven't won, they must have partied hard," Raina added, referring to the infamous IPL after-parties.

Notably, during IPL's early years, glitz, glamour and Bollywood were an intricate part of the product. Routine mega after-parties were the norm and IPL somewhat gained notoriety for its rather 'risque' element.&nbsp;

However, according to Raina, CSK never partook in such activities and the results reflected on the ground.&nbsp;

"We (CSK) didn't do it. That's why we have 5 IPL trophies and 2 Champions League trophies. MI also have won 5 trophies," he added.

<h2>Conscious call from CSK</h2>

Raina said it was a conscious call from the CSK team management and players to not indulge in such vices.&nbsp;

"The entire team was particular about not partying late into the night. We are also playing for India, keep in mind. If I don't play well, why will my captain select me? Now, I am free, I have retired. We can party," said Raina.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ipl-2024-csk-coach-says-ms-dhonis-knock-psychologically-affected-mi-711500">Also read |&nbsp;IPL 2024: CSK coach says MS Dhoni’s knock ‘psychologically’ affected MI</a>

The former all-rounder explained the decision saying teams played in the grueling summer months of April-May where partying late at night could have serious impact on player's performance.&nbsp;

"If you party late into the night, how will you play in the morning? In May-June's heat, how will you play afternoon games if you have partied all night?"

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Suresh Raina has taken a sly dig at the struggling and trophyless teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saying those who 'partied hard' were still without any silverware. Raina's statement was a jab at the likes of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) who are yet to win an IPL trophy in the tournament's 17-year history. "Chennai never partied. That's why they have been the most successful. 2-3 teams who partied have not won the IPL yet," Raina told Lallantop. Quizzed if he was referring to RCB in particular, Raina had a chuckle but did not name drop any team. "No, there are a few teams who haven't won, they must have partied hard," Raina added, referring to the infamous IPL after-parties. Notably, during IPL's early years, glitz, glamour and Bollywood were an intricate part of the product. Routine mega after-parties were the norm and IPL somewhat gained notoriety for its rather 'risque' element. However, according to Raina, CSK never partook in such activities and the results reflected on the ground. "We (CSK) didn't do it. That's why we have 5 IPL trophies and 2 Champions League trophies. MI also have won 5 trophies," he added. Also read | MS Dhoni to play IPL 2025? Now, I am free, I have retired. We can party," said Raina.
