<h2>What does the violation of Article 2.12 mean?</h2>

<p>As per the ICC's Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel, the violation of Article 2.12 means,&nbsp;"Any form of inappropriate physical contact is prohibited in cricket. Without limitation, Players will breach this regulation if they deliberately, recklessly and/or negligently walk or run into or shoulder another Player or Umpire. When assessing the seriousness of the breach, the following factors (without limitation) shall be taken into account: (i) the context of the particular situation, including, without limitation, whether the contact was deliberate (i.e. intentional), reckless, negligent, and/or avoidable; (ii) the force of the contact; (iii) any resulting injury to the person with whom contact was made; and (iv) the person with whom contact was made."</p>

<p>The incident took place during the 81st over of England's second innings in Hyderabad.&nbsp; During the over, Bumrah obstructed&nbsp;Pope's path while running between the wickets which led to an avoidable collision. Notably, the pacer has admitted to the offence and no formal hearing is required.</p>

But preparation hasn't changed. You cannot go into India underprepared, you cannot go into India over-prepared. You could be in India six weeks before and still not be prepared for that first Test and the emotion of that."</p>

<p>"I love the new approach with Ben Stokes, Brendon McCullum and Rob Key, and everything the ECB has done. But I'm sorry, you'd never go to an Ashes series three days before. You'd never go to Australia three days before the Gabba. Why go three days before (to) Hyderabad? We've got five Test matches in India, you've got to prepare in the right way with overs under your belt, balls faced, and acclimatising," he added.</p>

<p>England's last Test series win in India came in 2012/13. Back then, the visitors reached India&nbsp;almost two weeks in advance. Meanwhile, the last Test series between both sides ended in a 2-2 stalemate, held in the United Kingdom from 2021-22.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India hasn't lost a Test series at home in over a decade, having last gone down against England in 2012.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Frankly, I'd be a little bit terrified if I was playing. Most of the guys haven't played any long-form cricket since July. Very few of the squad were involved a great deal in the rundown of the County Championship, which finished at the back end of September. We're now three months down the road with nobody having had any sort of middle practice at all," Butcher said on Wisden Cricket Weekly Podcast.</p>

<p>"Everybody believes that going to India that you're unlikely to win a five-Test match series in India, right? But what people will be less likely to be gentle about is if you go there without having done the requisite getting ready for it and then get battered," Butcher said.</p>

<h2><strong>England ease past Netherlands</strong></h2>

<p>Knowing a defeat could spell the end of their hopes to qualify for the Champions Trophy, England came good against the Netherlands in a one-sided contest. Having set up a mammoth 340-run target, England bowlers were at their excellency with the ball and bowled out the opposition at 179 in 37.2 overs. The win was important as they climbed to seventh place and now sit in pole position to reach the Champions Trophy.</p>

<p>Teja Nidamanuru top-scored with 41 off 34 while there were starts for captain Scott Edwards (38), Wesley Barresi (37), and Sybrand Engelbrecht (33). Ben Stokes provides silver lining to dark English campaign, scores maiden World Cup ton against Netherlands

<p>Former England bowler Steve Harmison finds no sense in the team playing Ben Stokes despite getting knocked out of the World Cup 2023. Harmison argues knowing Ben is confirmed to undergo knee surgery following the marquee event, and England must send him home to protect him and prepare him for the India Tests in January next year. England is due to face the Netherlands and Pakistan in their remaining two matches.</p>

<p>Harmison added it requires strong leadership to let Stokes leave the World Cup at this hour and head home for surgery on his troubled left knee. The lanky seamer suggested it should be ECB's director of men's cricket, Robert Key, to step ahead and take this call.</p>

<p>"I am amazed Ben is still in the country, I don't see any point in him being there," Harmison told PA.</p>

<p>"I'm sure that conversation has been had but it needs strong leadership. It needs someone to say, 'Ben, you're going home. Here's a ticket, there's the plane, get on it'.</p>

<p>"I think Rob Key, as director of cricket, should probably take that decision and if I was (Test coach) Brendon McCullum I'd be doing everything I could to encourage him,” Harmison added.</p>

<p>Stokes has had issues with his left knee since the Ashes this year, where he bowled for limited-overs only. Following the home Ashes that ended with a 2-2 result, Stokes came out of ODI retirement to feature in the showpiece event, where he played as a specialist batter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I've got a good relationship with Ben, and I know for a fact he won't thank me for saying this, but I'm saying it because it's what is best for the England cricket team. It's common sense," Harmison added.</p>

<h2>He is the most important player in Test line-up</h2>

<p>Arguing that Stokes is the single-most-important player in the Test squad that has taken the world by storm with its newest playing style, which everyone calls Bazball.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Harmison noted that it’s important for Stokes to get some rest after going under the knife, and for which he must head home now.</p>

<p>"You never know what they are going to find with a big op, or what the rehab looks like," added Harmison. "So, give yourself the extra time because it could be the difference between being fully fit for the first Test or the third.</p>

<p>England batter Ben Stokes scored 64 in the ODI World Cup 2023 match against Australia on November 4 but it wasn't enough as defending champions lost the game by 33 runs. Stokes also hit three sixes in his innings and one of them broke a chair as well. Stokes' innings came at a time when England were looking good to win but crumbled after his wicket.</p>

<p>As for the six, it came off Travis Head's ball in the 32nd over when Stokes deposited a short ball over deep midwicket area. The ball hit a chair and made a hole into it before bouncing ahead. Have a look at the video here:</p>

<p>Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was on fire against England in ODI World Cup 2023 in Lucknow as India romped home with a 100-run win for their sixth victory on the trot in the tournament. The India pacer, who was playing only his second game of the tournament, was particularly lethal against Ben Stokes. Shami bowled 10 balls to Stokes, conceded no run and then dismissed the batter as well.</p>

<h2><strong>Stokes signs new deal</strong></h2>

<p>Stokes appears to have kept his options open ahead of the renewal of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) and the ECB next year, which aligns with a new cycle of broadcast rights.</p>

<p>After missing out on all action in World Cup 2023 with a left hip injury, champion player Ben Stokes will return to contention for selection for the crucial South Africa clash in Mumbai. England captain Jos Buttler declared him ‘almost fit’ ahead of the Afghanistan CWC match in Delhi, but upon regaining full fitness, Stokes will resume batting in nets to push for a case in the XI.</p>

<p>A 2019 World Cup winner with England, Stokes, unretired from the ODIs earlier this year to remain available for the marquee event. After his record-breaking 182 against New Zealand at the Oval in September, Stokes is out of action since and even sat out of England’s first three CWC games, wherein they lost two of them.</p>

<p>Stokes will participate in the practice sessions on Thursday evening and Friday morning.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But on the flip side, he seemed excited for his first game of this campaign, saying he worked hard to be here.</p>

<p>"[It was] a frustrating little niggle to get before the tournament starts," Stokes told BBC on Thursday. "But I have worked very hard to get back to where I am and making myself ready to be available for selection."</p>

<p>"We have had a few days off since the last game and the first training session here in Mumbai. [I will] give it a good push but, yes, I think everything is pretty good. I am in a good place,” the star all-rounder added.</p>

<h2>‘Still a long way to go'</h2>

<p>Given their stance on the points table, England found itself in a tricky situation considering sealing the semis berth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, Stokes believes there's a lot of cricket left in the tournament, and England can make a comeback.</p>

<p>"We are only three games into a tournament," Stokes said. "There is still a long way to go. It [the loss to Afghanistan] was disappointing in the moment, but at the end of the day, we have lost a game of cricket in a World Cup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Everyone is going to lose games, and it's one of those things we had to deal with quickly, understand that we didn't perform well but move on, and understand we have a lot more cricket left to play,” Stokes added.</p>

<p>Pathan's remarks come after England suffered a morale-downing defeat against Afghanistan on Sunday (Oct 15) where the team sorely missed someone like Stokes to steer the ship when things went south.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Bring in Ben Stokes even if he is 99 per cent&nbsp;fit. You need him. You brought him for his experience. They won't have a chance to come back if they lose the next match. It won't happen every time," said Pathan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pathan reflected on England's 2019 WC Campaign where the team lost three games in the league stage and yet managed to emerge with the ultimate prize.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In the 2019 World Cup, England lost three matches. They lost to Sri Lanka, Pakistan and one more match. They became the world champions despite that. So it's not that everything is over but if they get too late in playing their main team and their better bowlers, they will not be able to catch the wagon."</p>
