For Bollywood, beautiful women have fair skin, according to an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based computer analysis which reveals that conception of beauty has remained consistent through the years in the film industry centred in Mumbai. 
 
The automated computer analysis was led by Indian-origin researchers at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in the US. 
 
The research revealed that babies whose births were depicted in Bollywood films from the 1950s and 60s were more often than not boys; in today`s films, boy and girl newborns are about evenly split. 
 
In the 50s and 60s, dowries were socially acceptable; today, not so much. 
 
The researchers, led by Kunal Khadilkar and Ashiqur KhudaBukhsh of CMU`s Language Technologies Institute (LTI), gathered 100 Bollywood movies from each of the past seven decades along with 100 of the top-grossing Hollywood moves from the same periods. 
 
They then used statistical language models to analyse subtitles of those 1,400 films for gender and social biases, looking for such factors as what words are closely associated with each other. 
 
"Most cultural studies of movies might consider five or 10 movies," said Khadilkar, a master`s student in LTI. 
 
"Our method can look at 2,000 movies in a matter of days." 
 
For instance, the researchers assessed beauty conventions in movies by using a so-called cloze test. 
 
Essentially, it`s a fill-in-the-blank exercise: "A beautiful woman should have BLANK skin." 
 
A language model normally would predict "soft" as the answer, the researchers noted. 
 
But when the model was trained with the Bollywood subtitles, the consistent prediction became "fair". 
 
The same thing happened when Hollywood subtitles were used, though the bias was less pronounced, said the study. 
 
To assess the prevalence of male characters, the researchers used a metric called Male Pronoun Ratio (MPR), which compares the occurrence of male pronouns such as "he" and "him" with the total occurrences of male and female pronouns. 
 
From 1950 through today, the MPR for Bollywood and Hollywood movies ranged from roughly 60 to 65 MPR. 
 
Looking at words associated with dowry over the years, the researchers found such words as "loan," "debt" and "jewelry" in Bollywood films of the 50s, which suggested compliance. 
 
By the 1970s, other words, such as "consent" and "responsibility," began to appear. Finally, in the 2000s, the words most closely associated with dowry -- including "trouble," "divorce" and "refused" -- indicate noncompliance or its consequences. 
 
"All of these things we kind of knew," said KhudaBukhsh, an LTI project scientist, "but now we have numbers to quantify them. And we can also see the progress over the last 70 years as these biases have been reduced."

Tennis star Venus Williams is known for her dedication and wins on the court but when she is not smashing the tennis ball with her powerful moves, she&nbsp;loves to try all the latest beauty trends and treatments.

"My dermatologist in New York has incredible peels for the face and body, and the hands and feet peel so beautifully. And honestly, the butt peels so nicely, too. I love a good treatment."

I honestly like to keep it simpler and do something like a Laser Genesis treatment, some red light therapy, constant exfoliation, and chemical peels. Nothing too crazy, but those sorts of things really turn over your skin and make it look beautiful. And if you keep it up and can continue your routine at home, you'll be amazed at how well it works," she told NewBeauty.

While she's also tried "more intense treatments for prevention and correction" like non-invasive skin-tightening and lifting and radiofrequency contouring, the star decided they weren't right for her.

"They're both a little too painful for me, but they're definitely two gold standards for anti-aging," Williams said.

The star also opened up about turning 40 last June, which she admitted wasn't as big of a deal as people make it seem. "I'm really fine with it. I'm really fortunate to have really good genes, honestly. I think a lot of times it comes down to that and how you take care of yourself," Williams said.

But even if it’s more television show than crowd fest this year, the parade will provide a respite from the doldrums of a closed Broadway with performances by the casts of “Hamilton,” “Mean Girls,” “Jagged Little Pill,” and “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations,” all shows that have not taken the stage since March.

Parade organizers said the Broadway performances will be filmed and then aired with the rest of the parade on the morning of Nov. 26. Given the virus and the long layoff since March, the appearances are requiring rigorous rehearsals and meticulous planning to make sure that the entertainers are back on game and the performers and production team do not pose a health risk to one another.

Sergio Trujillo, the Tony Award-winning choreographer of “Ain’t Too Proud,” said that he choreographed a new number to a medley of two Temptations songs, “My Girl” and “Get Ready.” Last year, the entire cast of the show performed at the outset of the parade broadcast, but this time, Trujillo kept the number to the five stars. He said he choreographed with social distancing in mind, making sure that the formations were staggered and the performers could keep separated while dancing.

“Anything we can do to make sure our Broadway lovers stay engaged and invested,” Trujillo said.

Anyone involved in the performance gets a coronavirus test and a temperature check before convening, and everyone will wear masks on the set, though the performers will be able to remove them to sing, he said.

In a typical year, Macy’s and NBC work together to select the Broadway shows that will perform live on Thanksgiving Day, usually emphasizing productions with flashy, dance-heavy numbers. This year, some producers said that they would not be able to make the performance work because their cast members were spending the pandemic shutdown period outside the state or country, said Wesley Whatley, the parade’s creative producer.

The four performances that ultimately came together are being paid for by NBC, giving the performers a welcome paycheck after months of no work.

This is the 94th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and it has been reimagined in almost every way. Usually, it has 8,000 to 10,000 people working the route, said Susan Tercero, the event’s executive producer. This year, there will be about 1,500. And there will be an in-person audience of zero (the area surrounding the parade route will be shut down, even during planning, so there will be no opportunity for street viewing).

“We still wanted to deliver what people expect on a Thanksgiving morning,” Tercero said. “But it’s going to look like a parade during COVID times: We’re going to have people in masks, and we’re going to be socially distanced.”

The show, to air on NBC, will be hosted by Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker and will feature a typical roster of celebrities from the worlds of music and television.
