<h2>Bayern secure Laimer’s signing</h2>

"I'm in the right place here," Laimer said in a statement Bayern released on Friday.

"It's a dream come true for me. FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world."

"We are delighted to have signed Konrad Laimer... together we will hopefully now celebrate many more great victories and titles,” Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said.

The midfielder won back-to-back DFB Pokal titles with Leipzig and was part of the side that reached the semifinals of the Champions League in 2020. He was one of the main men in former manager Julian Nagelsmann’s squad during his time at Leipzig. Laimer’s contract will run until 2027 and will be expected to compete against Leon Goretzka and other midfielders.

The 26-year-old played 190 games for Leipzig, scoring 15 goals and assisting 19 more in all competitions. He was linked with the German giants for months and was a long-term target before Nagelsmann’s departure from the club in March.

<h2>Bayern bolster ranks</h2>

Having become Bayern’s first signing of the summer, Bayern will look to bolster their ranks and will look to challenge for the treble. In the 2022-23 season, they won the Bundesliga on the final day of the season while they faced elimination from the Champions League in the quarterfinal. Bayer were eliminated in the quarterfinal of the DFB Pokal at the hands of Freiburg while all this happened after Thomas Tuchel took over from Nagelsmann in March.

Laimer will join a star-studded Bayern midfield which includes Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka and fellow Austrian Marcel Sabitzer.

Sabitzer, who will return to Bayern after spending the second half of the season on loan at Manchester United, also joined Munich from RB Leipzig.

Declan Rice will leave West Ham United in the close season, chairman David Sullivan said on Thursday, a day after the midfielder captained the club to their first European trophy in 58 years. Sullivan said a gentleman's agreement means Rice can leave despite a year remaining on his contract with the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

When asked if Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final was Rice's last game for the club, Sullivan told Talksport: "I think it has to be.

"We promised him he could go. He set his heart on going. You can't ask for a man who has committed more to us this season. In due course, he has to get on and we have to get a replacement, or several replacements.

Rice was also named the Europa Conference League player of the season and was among six West Ham players who made the competition's team of the season.

Rice joined West Ham's academy from Chelsea as a teenager and has been ever-present since his breakthrough season in 2017-18. He took over the captaincy after Mark Noble's retirement last year.

The 24-year-old played 50 games in all competitions this season as West Ham finished 14th in the Premier League before clinching the Europa Conference League in Prague on Wednesday.

Rice has played more than 200 games for West Ham and also earned 41 caps for England since his international debut in 2019.

<h2>Bayern, City, and Barcelona chase Rice</h2>

After winning the Europa Conference League, West Ham was sure to receive some offers for their captain. Valued at around £100 million ($124 million), Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and FC Barcelona are some of the top teams chasing Rice for that decisive position that he plays in.

<h2>Bayern part ways with&nbsp;Kahn,&nbsp;Salihamidzic</h2>

"You have probably heard what we have decided with the supervisory board," club president Herbert Hainer told media in the mixed zone in Cologne where, the club salvaged their 33rd German league title when Jamal Musiala hit an 89th-minute winner.

An hour after the &nbsp;final whistle the club posted a statement on their website.

"Oliver Kahn is no longer CEO of FC Bayern Munchen," it said.&nbsp;

"Hasan Salihamidzic will also be replaced as board member for sport. This was decided by the club's supervisory board. Kahn will be replaced by the current vice-chairman of the board Jan-Christian Dreesen. Salihamidzic's successor is still to be decided."

Dreesen, who was vice-chairman, had announced he planned to leave the club at the end of the season.

"The decision to part with Oliver Kahn was anything but easy for the supervisory board. Nevertheless, due to the overall development, we have come to the decision to make a new appointment at the top of the executive board," Hainer said in the statement.

Bayern's two strong men paid for a tumultuous season in which they went out in the quarter-finals of the German Cup and Champions League and only took the league title when Borussia Dortmund, who started the final day in first, could only draw at home against Mainz.

<h2>What went wrong?</h2>

Salihamidzic and Kahn took the gamble of parting company with young coach Julian Nagelsmann at the end of March and replacing him with Thomas Tuchel, a switch that did not lead to an improvement in results.

Salihamidzic, who is 46, played more than 230 Bundesliga games for the club. He took over as sports director in July 2017 and joined the club's management board in the summer of 2020.&nbsp;

In his time in the post, the club won the Champions League in 2020 and the Bundesliga every year.&nbsp;

Oliver Kahn, who is 53, played more than 420 league games in goal for Bayern. He&nbsp;took over as chairman of the board in July 2021.&nbsp;

He did not make the trip to Cologne on Saturday, officially due to a flu.&nbsp;

In the 15th minute of the contest, Andreas Hanche-Olsen scored for Mainz to give them a 1-0 lead. That lead could have lasted for just four minutes before Sebastien Haller missed a penalty and failed to bring back Dortmund into the contest. The lead was soon doubled for Mainz as Karim Onisiwo scored for Mainz and handed the title initiative to Bayern.

Bayern had also taken a 1-0 lead against Koln at halftime as Kingsley Coman scored for the record champions. At half time, it was Bayern Munich who had the title in their hands before a dramatic second half followed.

In the 69th minute of the Dortmund game, Raphaël Guerreiro scored for Dortmund to make it 1-2 but the title still was in Munich’s hand as they lead 1-0 against Koln. At that moment, Bayern had 71 points while Dortmund were on 70 points.

With nine minutes remaining, Dortmund were thrown a lifeline as a VAR call came in favour of Koln and saw a penalty awarded to them. Dejan Ljubicic converted from the 12 yards which saw the pendulum swing in Dortmund’s favour. At that moment, Bayern’s draw saw Dortmund clinch the title. However, an 89th-minute winner from Jamal Musiala saw them win the contest 2-1 while Dortmund’s late rescue act saw them pull the affairs at 2-2 against Mainz.

However, the set of results was not enough for Dortmund as both teams ended with 71 points each from 34 matches, and a superior goal difference (+54) saw them clinch the Bundesliga title for the 11th consecutive time.

Last weekend's 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace earned Mason a first win during his second stint as Tottenham interim boss.

Borussia Dortmund went top of the Bundesliga table after a 4-0 home win over Eintracht Frankfurt, making the most of Bayern Munich's earlier 3-1 loss at Mainz on Saturday.

A double from Dutch forward Donyell Malen and goals from English teenager Jude Bellingham and veteran Mats Hummels snared the three points for Dortmund, setting up a knife-edged title race with five games remaining.

With Bayern's game finishing an hour before kickoff in Dortmund, the home side knew a win would take them outright first on the table.

Bellingham settled Dortmund's nerves early, collecting a pass from Julian Brandt pass before pirouetting and firing a shot home.

Malen doubled up five minutes later, scoring for the fifth consecutive league match, before Hummels headed in a third &nbsp;just before halftime.&nbsp;

Malen scored his second midway through the second half, again assisted by Karim Adeyemi.

Unlike last week, where Dortmund gave away 2-0 and 3-2 leads against a ten-man Stuttgart to draw 3-3, there would be no late collapse as the home side leapfrogged Bayern into first by one point.

Dortmund have five more matches, three of which are at home, as they pursue their first league title in a decade.

Dortmund manager Edin Terzic said "we showed how well we can play today", but would not bite when asked if his side were on the way to a title.

"It was a really good step in the right direction."

Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner lamented the home side's "brutal efficiency" and has now lost eight from eight against Dortmund.&nbsp;

Defender Ruben Dias echoed his manager's sentiments, saying the tournament was "special" for City.

"We really want to be in it and to see it through. It will be a difficult match, but it is what the competition is all about, beating the best," Dias told reporters. "We are happy to be here. Every season the work you have to do is to stay in competitions - the Premier League, the Champions League, all the cups - the biggest goal is to stay in competitions as long as you can."

Moreover, with a tough run in the Bundesliga expected while a last eight clash against Manchester City in the Champions League also to come, the board believed that Tuchel was the right man for the job.

Bayern signed Nagelsmann to a five-year deal just two years ago but nerves have been fraying as the perennial Bundesliga champions struggle to hold onto their title. Despite their uninspiring league form, Bayern remain in the hunt in the league, as well as the domestic and European cup competitions. They brushed aside French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16, winning 3-0 across both legs. The German champions will face English Premier League title holders Manchester City in the quarter-finals in April.

In the Champions League, they have strung together eight victories from as many matches played against opponents including Barcelona, Inter Milan and PSG. Bayern have conceded just twice in their European campaign, against the Czechs of Viktoria Plzen.

Nagelsmann's potential replacement Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, but has been without a club since leaving the English side in September.

Tuchel had already been in touch with Bayern in recent days, according to German sports magazine Kicker.

Nagelsmann, 35, would leave Bayern after less than two years in charge. &nbsp;The Bavarian side's next fixture is a top-of-the-table clash against Dortmund in Munich on April 1.

"That is now a must-win game for us, because it will be very difficult to win the title otherwise," Nagelsmann said after the Leverkusen defeat.

Despite being in second place in the table, Bayern are enduring their worst league campaign in 11 years with only 52 points from 25 games. They have been defeated three times -- by Augsburg in mid-September, at Borussia Monchengladbach in mid-February and then against Leverkusen. They have also drawn seven games.

Nagelsmann arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 to replace Hansi Flick who had led Bayern to the Bundesliga title, German Cup, Champions League, German and European Super Cups and Club World Cup. Flick then left to take over the German national team. Nagelsmann has a contract at the club until the summer of 2026.

Substitute Serge Gnabry scored in the last minute of regular time to wrap a 3-0 aggregate victory for the six-time European champions.

Bayern reached the last eight for the fourth straight year, while PSG will need to wait at least another season to lift the coveted trophy for the first time.

Champions League: Wounded PSG face Bayern in Germany; Spurs host AC Milan in crunch second leg

Kylian Mbappe became Paris Saint-Germain's all-time top scorer with his 201st goal for the club as the Ligue 1 leaders warmed up for their crunch trip to Bayern Munich with a 4-2 win over Nantes on Saturday.

The France superstar had equalled Edinson Cavani's previous record mark of 200 goals with a brace in last week's win at Marseille and went one better by netting in stoppage time at the Parc des Princes.

PSG had earlier squandered a two-goal lead, with Lionel Messi putting them ahead and a Jaouen Hadjam own goal making it 2-0 inside 17 minutes before Nantes fought back to draw level.

Ludovic Blas pulled one back for the visitors and Ignatius Ganago equalised, but Mbappe set up Danilo Pereira to put PSG back in front on the hour mark and then claimed his record-breaking goal late on.

Mbappe reached the record in just 247 appearances since signing from Monaco aged 18 in 2017.

Uruguay star Cavani needed 298 games, and seven years, to establish the previous record in 2020.

The 24-year-old Mbappe was handed a trophy by the club after the game to mark his record in an on-field presentation.

"I play to make history and I have always said I wanted to make history in France, in the capital of my country, in my city, and I am doing that. It's magnificent, but there is still a lot to be done," Mbappe, who finished the game as captain, told broadcaster Canal Plus.

"For me, as a native Parisian, this is special. If someone had said to me I would score the goal to beat the record while wearing the captain's armband, I would not have believed it."

The result saw PSG open up a lead of 11 points at the top of Ligue 1 before nearest rivals Marseille play on Sunday, and before the Qatar-owned club go to Bayern for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday.

PSG trail 1-0 from the first leg against the Bavarians and failure to progress to the quarter-finals in Europe would put a major dampener on the end of their season.

<h2>Hakimi watches from stands</h2>

Injured Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi watched from the stands at the Parc des Princes a day after he was charged with rape following accusations made by a 24-year-old woman.

Neymar was also a spectator and will not be back for the match against Bayern, while centre-back Presnel Kimpembe is set to miss the remainder of the season with an achilles injury.

Coach Christophe Galtier lost two more defenders to injury in the second half against Nantes, with skipper Marquinhos and stand-in right-back Nordi Mukiele both having to come off.

Before the game there was a minute's applause for Just Fontaine, the legendary former France striker who scored 13 goals at the 1958 World Cup and who passed away on Wednesday aged 89.

Fontaine also coached PSG, leading them to promotion to the top tier of French football in 1974.

The Parisians went ahead in the 12th minute, with Messi turning in a deflected low cross from Nuno Mendes to score his 13th Ligue 1 goal this season.

The unfortunate Hadjam's own goal had PSG cruising, but a Blas shot that surprised Gianluigi Donnarumma just after the half-hour mark brought Nantes back into the game and Cameroonian forward Ganago's header made it 2-2 before the break.

PSG had also blown a two-goal lead in their last home game against Lille a fortnight ago before recovering to win 4-3, and they repeated the feat here with Mbappe playing a starring role.

His assist was headed in by Danilo to make it 3-2 just before the hosts were awarded a penalty for a foul on Mukiele, only for a VAR check to rule that the contact had taken place outside the box.

It looked like Mbappe would be made to wait for his record before he struck right at the end with a finish on the turn.

Earlier Lens missed the chance to climb above Marseille into second place as they drew 1-1 at home to northern rivals Lille, for whom Canada star Jonathan David grabbed the equaliser.
