Bayern Munich will welcome Robert Lewandowski's Barcelona to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, hoping to jolt themselves out of a poor run of Bundesliga form. Despite Wednesday's impressive 2-0 win at Inter Milan, Bayern have drawn three games in a row and sit in the unfamiliar position of third place after six matches.

While Bayern have not struggled to find the back of the net this season with 31 goals in nine games, they have missed Lewandowski's penetration at crucial moments in recent weeks. Lewandowski has had a dominant start to life in Spain, scoring six times in five La Liga matches for Barcelona to sit in his usual spot atop the goalscoring charts.

With four wins and a draw, Barcelona are unbeaten in the league and sit second behind Real Madrid. In the Champions League, Lewandowski opened his account with a hat-trick in Barcelona's 5-1 home win against Viktoria Plzen.

Speaking directly after their 2-2 home draw with Stuttgart on Saturday, Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said his team knew better than most the kind of damage Lewandowski could inflict.

"We have been warned," Salihamidzic said about his former striker's form for his new club.

Bayern have a strong recent Champions League record against Barcelona, with two 3-0 wins last season along with an 8-2 quarter-final thumping on the way to winning the 2020 title.

The six-time European champions are however fully aware that this Barcelona side is stronger than some of the recent incarnations.

"Worried? I don't know (about that)," Salihamidzic said on Saturday when asked if his side were fearful ahead of Barca's visit.

"We have to shift up two gears, even three against Barcelona.

"Barcelona have top players, play good football (and) 'Lewa' is up front, he uses every opportunity."

Manager Julian Nagelsmann said his side's Bundesliga form will not change the preparation for Tuesday's game.

"I approach the week the way I would have done it if we had won," Nagelsmann said on Saturday.

"We're trying to come up with a good idea for Barcelona, which will be difficult.

"I would have done the same thing if we had won 4-0 today."

After his side's 2-0 win over Inter, Nagelsmann said his side were "looking forward" to taking on the man who scored 344 goals in 375 Bayern appearances.

"I am looking forward to it (the reunion with Lewandowski). Not so much as an opponent because he's very dangerous, but as a person I will be pleased to see him."

Nagelsmann said he hoped fans would welcome Lewandowski back warmly, despite the acrimonious nature of his departure.

"I hope the fans will honour that too, regardless of how things were with his departure."

Bayern forward Thomas Mueller, who said he was "mad at ourselves for the first time this season" after the draw with Stuttgart, said he was happy for the focus to shift away from his side's domestic problems.

Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to stay at Manchester United after the Portuguese forward failed to get a move away from the club before the transfer window shut on Friday (September 02). Ronaldo had made his desire to leave United clear after the club's failure to secure Champions League football last season.

The Portuguese icon wanted to join a club competing in the Champions League to still be fighting for major trophies in what are the final few years of his career. However, none of the top European clubs showcased any interest in landing the 37-year-old despite his agent Jorge Mendes' continuous attempts to find a new club for his client.

The likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Napoli among others were all contacted by Mendes to secure Ronaldo's move away from United. However, no move materialised for the Portuguese, who will be competing in the Europa League for the first time in his career this season.

But you don't have to feel sorry for him. He's a great footballer who has achieved great things in recent years," Salihamidzic told Sky Sports Germany.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United from Juventus last summer and was the club's top-scorer in the Premier League with 18 goals. However, despite his heroics, United endured a horrible season and failed to finish inside the top four. United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer midway through their campaign before parting ways with interim manager Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season.

UEFA confirms Champions League group stage draw pots for the upcoming season

Former Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has slammed the Bundesliga giants for 'lying' to the fans over his exit terms this summer. Lewandowski, who enjoyed a stunning 8-year spell at Bayern, left the German club this summer to secure a switch to Barcelona in a deal worth around 50 million euros.

Lewandowski had made it clear to Bayern this summer that he wanted to leave the club with FC Barcelona interested in his services. The Polish striker, who had one year left on his contract, was not willing to sign an extension and remained firm on leaving despite Bayern publically claiming he was not for sale.

The Polish striker, who played an instrumental role in Bayern Munich's success over the last few years, recently opened up on his move to Barcelona and denied the reports that he wanted to leave due to Erlin Haaland's potential arrival at the club. Norweigan striker Haaland was heavily linked with Bayern before completing a move to Manchester City earlier this summer.

"(My exit) had nothing to do with Erling [Haaland]," Lewandowski told ESPN when asked if Haaland's potential arrival was one of the reasons behind his departure from Bayern.

"I am the guy who even if something's not good for me -- truth is more important. I don't want to speak about what happened exactly. But if the question is if the decision to move was because of him, no, I didn't see the problem if he joined Bayern Munich," he added.

Lewandowski then went on to slam Bayern Munich for internal politics at the club and feeding wrong information to the fans about his move to Barcelona. The 33-year-old striker, who was one of the favourites to win the Ballon d'Or in 2020, said a lot of 'bullsh*t' was spoken about him by the club before his transfer to Barcelona.

And in the end I know that something doesn't work well with my person as well and I knew that, OK I see and I feel that maybe it's a good time to move out of Bayern Munich and join Barcelona," Lewandowski told ESPN about his move.

"I had a very good relationship with my teammates, with the staff, with the coach, and these are all things I'm going to miss because I spent a beautiful time there. And we were not only friends from the pitch but also something more. But in the end this chapter is over and I open a new chapter in my life and a new chapter in my career.

"So I feel that I'm in the right position, right place. So everything that's happened in the last maybe few weeks before I left Bayern Munich, that was also of course a lot of politics. The club tried to find an argument why they can sell me to another club because before it was difficult to explain maybe to the fans. And I had to accept that even though it was a lot of bullsh*t, a lot of sh*t said about me. Not true, but in the end I knew that the fans, even in this period, still support me a lot," he added.

On Tuesday (July 25), Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Carrington and joined the Manchester United camp for training ahead of the new EPL season. Ronaldo was set to have a discussion with new manager Erik ten Hag regarding his future at the club. Despite the talk, it seems Ronaldo is still keen to leave Man United and start afresh in a new club.

Ronaldo remains adamant to leave the Red Devils and join a club where he can compete for major titles. With United finishing sixth in the last EPL season, he will miss Champions League football as well for the 2022/23 season. Earlier, the Portuguese captain had missed the club's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, for personal reasons, which raised speculations of his exit.

Hence, Ronaldo and Erik had a discussion but it seems there hasn't been any change of plans from the former's end, as per a report in English media. Despite him not being willing to stay back at Man United, he trained professionally as ever and the team environment also remains positive. Nonetheless, the superstar footballer's keenness to join somewhere else remains the biggest roadblock. Thus, his agent Jorge Mendes is still on his toes to find a new club for Ronaldo.

While many top clubs have not shown much interest, due to financial constraints or other factors, it seems Ronaldo has no choice but to play the waiting game for now.

Nonetheless, the superstar footballer's keenness to join somewhere else remains the biggest roadblock. Thus, his agent Jorge Mendes is still on his toes to find a new club for Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo keen to exit Manchester United, club maintains he is not for sale: Report

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move to several top European clubs this summer after expressing his desire to leave Manchester United. Ronaldo returned to United last year from Juventus and enjoyed a prolific season with the club, scoring 18 goals in the Premier League. However, United endured a disastrous campaign and finished 6th in the league to miss out on Champions League football.

Ronaldo reportedly wants to spend the final few years of his career playing for a club competing in the Champions League and believes United do not have the quality in their squad required to challenge for titles. Hence, he has informed the club about his desire to leave in search of a fresh challenge.

Ronaldo has been linked with a move to top clubs like Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich among others. However, none of them have shown concrete interest in signing the 37-year-old, who is regarded as one of the greatest of all time. Both Ronaldo's age and his playing style is a concern for clubs, who believe Ronaldo won't fit into their playing style.

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn recently explained why Bayern don't want to make a move for Ronaldo this summer despite him scoring a total of 24 goals for United across competitions last season. Kahn said he personally regards Ronaldo as one of the greatest footballers of all time but he doesn't fit the club's philosophy.

"We discussed this issue because otherwise, we would not be doing our job properly. I personally consider Cristiano Ronaldo one of the greatest footballers ever on this planet," Kahn told Germany's SportBild magazine.

"But we came to the conclusion that despite all the appreciation for Cristiano, he would not have fit in our philosophy in the current situation," he added.

Bayern are in desperate need of striking reinforcements ahead of the new season after Polis striker Robert Lewandowski joined FC Barcelona this summer. Nonetheless, Bayern have signed Senegalese forward Sadio Mane from Liverpool and would expect him to shoulder goal-scoring responsibilities in Lewandowski's absence.

'We discussed the issue': Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn explains why club won't sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Manchester and joined the Manchester United camp on Tuesday (July 26). The superstar footballer touched down in Manchester along with his superagent Jorge Mendes to hold talks with new manager Erik ten Hag regarding his future with the Red Devils, ahead of the commencement of the new EPL season.

As per various reports, Ronaldo is eager to cut short his stay at the premier club -- with one year still remaining in his contract -- after the Red Devils failed to make a mark in the last EPL season, ending sixth and missing out on Champions League football for the 2022/23 season. Thus, Ronaldo is eager to be associated with a club where he can compete in the Champions League and, hence, the 37-year-old isn't happy with how things have panned out for him in his ongoing second innings at the club. Thus, reports suggest that the Portuguese captain has handed in a transfer request. His absence from Man United's pre-season tour of Bangkok and Australia for personal reasons further raised speculations of his exit.

Was Alex Ferguson part of Ronaldo's meeting with Ten Hag over his Man UTD future? Here's the truth

Bayern Munich are on the lookout for a striker after the departure of Robert Lewandowski, who joined FC Barcelona in the ongoing summer transfer window. Lewandowski enjoyed a stunning stint at Bayern and helped the reigning Bundesliga champions continue their domination in the German top flight. The Polish striker was the club's one of the best players over the last few seasons but was allowed to leave after expressing his desire for a move.

Though Bayern have already roped in Senegalese forward Sadio Mane from Liverpool, who will bolster their attack next season, they still have space for an out-and-out striker. Bayer were heavily linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer but the club distanced itself from the speculations.

England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is another forward who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich. Kane, who was close to leaving Tottenham Hotspur last season, extended his stay with the Premier League club after being priced out of a move. However, he can be an option for Bayern.

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann recently addressed the speculations regarding Kane and said he is a brilliant but very expensive player.

“Very expensive, that’s the problem. But a brilliant player, one of the best forwards, and perhaps one of two or three centre forwards who really can play as a centre forward. The last couple of years he did not play centre forward. Most of the time, he dropped a little bit at No.10. He is good as a No.10 as well," Nagelsmann said in a press conference when asked about the prospect of signing Kane, as quoted by Goal.com.

However, Nagelsmann hinted he and the club are open to signing the England striker, who is one of the best goalscorers in the world at present. The Bayern manager said Kane will score a lot of goals for the club if he was to join the Bundesliga giants.

"He is very strong, has a strong body and it’s possible that he would score a lot of goals in the Bundesliga, but it will be tough, I think, for Bayern Munich. We will see what will happen in the future," said the Bayern manager.

Earlier, Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn was also asked about a potential move for Kane. The Bayern CEO said the club was not interested in signing Kane this summer but didn't rule out a 'dream move' for him in the future.

“He's under contract with Tottenham. Sure, an absolute top striker, but that's all a dream of the future. Now we have to look at getting the squad together for the current season. Let's see what else happens," Kahn had said.

Can Harry Kane replace Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich? Julian Nagelsmann responds to speculations

Will Cristiano Ronaldo stay put at Manchester United or will the superstar footballer join a new club? This remains a burning question in the football fraternity ahead of the commencement of the new EPL season. While at first it was believed that the Portugal captain will stay at the Red Devils, the situation has turned quite a lot as the 37-year-old is reportedly keen to start afresh in a new club. After Man United finished sixth last season, they will miss out on Champions League football for 2022/23 season, hence, Ronaldo is keen to make a move.

When Ronaldo's teammate and Man United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was asked about the Portuguese superstar's future with the club, the 27-year-old also remained puzzled. "I don't know what Cristiano said to the club and to the manager," Fernandes said recently. "I don't know what's going on in his head, if he wants to leave. I didn't ask them that," he opined.

"From everything we know. He had some family problems so we have to respect his space, give him some space and that's it. The only thing I asked Cristiano when he didn't turn up was if everything was OK with the family. He told me what was going on, that's it and nothing more," Fernandes added.

It's official! Bayern Munich confirm agreement with FC Barcelona for Robert Lewandowski's transfer

Bayern Munich seem to have finally given up on their desire to keep Robert Lewandowski at the club as the Polish striker is all set to join FC Barcelona this summer after the two clubs reportedly agreed a deal for him. Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in the world at present and his arrival will significantly bolster Barcelona's attack next season.

Lewandowski had just one year remaining on his existing contract at Bayern Munich and had already made up his mind to not sign an extension. He had also reportedly informed the club about his wish to leave the Bundesliga giants this summer in search of a fresh challenge. The Polish striker had his heart set on a move to FC Barcelona.

As per a report in Sky Sports, FC Barcelona have agreed a deal worth 50 million euros (USD 54 million) to sign the Polish striker this summer. Bayern Munich were earlier holding out for a bigger fee for their star striker but the two clubs have now come to a compromise over a deal worth 50 million euros.

As per the report, Lewandowski is all set to fly to Spain on Saturday (July 16) for his medical at FC Barcelona before the Spanish club can officially announce the transfer. A lot has been said and written about Cristiano Ronaldo's possible exit from Manchester United. Commencing his second innings at the Red Devils last year, Ronaldo's presence also couldn't help United finish the last EPL season on a high, ending at the sixth spot, and missing out on Champions League football as well.

While Ronaldo had made it clear that he is not going anywhere and will continue to be at the premier club, things have changed in the past few weeks. Since his agent has reportedly held discussions with several top clubs, which includes Chelsea, Bayern Munich, PSG, etc. (even though not much interest has been shown), a new twist has unfolded in Ronaldo's transfer saga.

As per reports, the Portuguese superstar has now received a mind-boggling offer from a club in Saudi Arabia. It has been reported by TVI and CNN Portugal, that the club has made a staggering and irresistible offer to rope in the Man United superstar with a transfer fee of £30 million and a salary of £105 million per year. Despite being 37, the Portuguese captain Ronaldo remains in huge demand across the footballing fraternity. He is one of the fittest athletes overall and bagged a total of 24 goals across competitions last season for the Red Devils.

The main reason for Ronaldo's willingness to reportedly leave the Old Trafford outfit is to continue chasing big titles at a club that can challenge for all major trophies. Thus, he is reportedly keen to move on and join some other top club. However, the search is on.

Recently, ahead of Man United's friendly tie versus Liverpool in Bangkok, new manager Erik ten Hag had cleared the air regarding Ronaldo's future at the club. UNBELIEVABLE! Saudi club makes irresistible offer for Man United's Cristiano Ronaldo: Report

Manchester United is aiming for a revamp ahead of the new EPL season. Despite that, the Red Devils haven't made a lot of signings. Thus, this has left Cristiano Ronaldo miffed and as per reports, he has been offered by his agent to move to Bayern Munich or Chelsea. While the Red Devils have maintained their stance that the star striker isn't up for sale, his agent Jorge Mendes is trying hard to find the best solution for the superstar footballer amid United's struggles for making a plethora of promising signings.

While there still is a couple of months for the summer transfer window to end, things might change with regard to Ronaldo. However, if he plans to switch and move to Chelsea or any other club, Man United might reportedly replace him with Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker Neymar.

Talking about the 30-year-old Neymar, the Brazilian's case is quite opposite. Although the Brazilian hasn't indicated that he is willing to make a move from PSG, the French club is said to be looking to offload him for the right price. There are those who suggest that Neymar could be available for EUR 50 million this summer. Thus, Man United can certainly afford him at that price if they lose Ronaldo's services.

According to a report carried out in RMC Sport, Neymar remains top of Man United's wishlist as a potential replacement for Ronaldo.

After the Red Devils ended sixth in the last EPL season, there were speculations of Ronaldo leaving the club. Back then, he stated, "I was happy to be back in a club that really raised my career so it was unbelievable, the feeling when I came back again," Ronaldo said. "I was and still am very happy to be here," Ronaldo told Manchester United in an interview early this month. "The most important thing for me is to try to win the games and try to win some championship... but I believe that Manchester will be back where they belong. Sometimes it takes time, but I still believe," he added.

Thus, it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds for Ronaldo, also for Neymar, in the coming few weeks.

Robert Lewandowski's move to Barcelona in doubt after Bayern Munich increase asking price for star striker

Bayern Munich have agreed terms with Liverpool to sign Sadio Mane, British media reported on Friday.
German champions Bayern will pay a fee in the region of 35 million pounds ($42.71 million) for the signature of the 30-year-old Senegal forward, who had a year left on his Liverpool contract, Sky Sports and the BBC reported. He is expected to sign a three-year contract and will undergo a medical next week.

Mane will leave Anfield after 269 appearances, having scored 120 goals in all competitions, a stellar return that helped the club to the Champions League title in 2018-19 and the Premier League crown a season later.

He was among Liverpool`s stand-out performers last season, netting 23 times as Juergen Klopp`s side secured the domestic cup double and narrowly missed out on the league title to Manchester City.

Mane won six trophies in all following his 34 million pounds switch from Southampton in June 2016, forming a potent attacking trio with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Bayern Munich agree deal to sign Liverpool star Sadio Mane - Reports

Robert Lewandowski has once again reaffirmed his desire to leave Bayern Munich this season to take up a fresh challenge in his career. One of the greatest goal-scorers of the present era, Lewandowski has been a prolific striker for the Bundesliga giants since joining the club in 2014 and his stature has grown with every passing season. Lewandowski played an instrumental role in Bayern's last Champions League triumph in 2020 and has been a force to reckon with in the Bundesliga over the years.

The Polis striker enjoyed a fabulous campaign in 2021-22 where he was unstoppable for Bayern across all competitions with a whopping 50 goals. The winner of the FIFA Best Award for the last two seasons was also seen as the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or in 2020 but the event had to be scrapped due to COVID-19.

While many would expect Bayern to do all that is possible to keep their top-scorer last season at the club at all cost, Lewandowski has hinted his relationship with the club is at an all-time low. The Polis striker said he was not listened to by the club till the end and felt something 'died inside him' during negotiations for a new contract.

“I am leaving because I want more emotions in my life. They didn’t want to listen to me until the end. Something died inside me, and it’s impossible to get over that. Even if you want to be professional, you can’t make up for it," Lewandowski told OneSport.

After spending eight years at Bayern Munich and scoring hundreds of goals for the club while helping them dominate in Germany and in Europe, Lewandowski feels he has given his all and should be let go of respectfully. The Polish superstar doesn't want to spoil his relationship with the club and take a one-sided decision.

“When you have been at the club for so many years, you were always ready, you were available, despite the injuries and pain you gave your best, I think it will be best to find a good solution for both sides. And not to look for a one-sided decision," Lewandowski said.

“That does not make sense. Not after this time. After such a successful path and on my part of readiness and support, this loyalty and respect are probably more important than this business," he added.

Bayern might block Lewandowski's move away from the club as he still has one year left on his current contract which expires in 2023. However, the Polish striker is in no mood to stay and has set his heart on switching clubs this year.

When asked if Bayern can potentially stop him from moving, Lewandowski sent a strong warning to the club and said no player would want to join such a club where players are not allowed to make decisions on their future as per their own choice.

“What for? What kind of player will then want to come to Bayern knowing that something like this could happen to him? Where are the loyalty and respect then?

“I have always been ready, I have spent eight beautiful years here, I have met so many wonderful people and I would like it to stay that way in my head," Lewandowski said. He has been heavily linked to FC Barcelona this summer and has reportedly made up his mind to join the La Liga giants ahead of the new season.

'What kind of player will come to Bayern then?': Lewandowski warns Bundesliga giants not to block his transfer

Robert Lewandowski said Monday that his time with Bayern Munich was over, without specifying his future plans, amid reports that Barcelona have made him an offer. "Today it is certain that my story with Bayern has come to an end," the Polish star striker told reporters in Warsaw.

"I can't imagine further cooperation, after what has happened over the last few months. A transfer will be the best solution. I trust that Bayern won't stop me, just because they can," he added.

With a year left on Lewandowski's contract, Barcelona have reportedly made an offer of 32 million euros ($34.5 million) to sign him. In an interview with Polish broadcaster Eleven Sports PL, Lewandowski dropped a teaser about how he would enjoy living in Spain.

"I think it's a really good place -- not just to go on holiday there," he said, adding that he has a house in Mallorca.

Bayern CEO Oliver Khan and director of sports Hasan Salihamidzic have both publically stated the club will not let Lewandowski leave before 2023. Earlier this month, Lewandowski's agent Pini Zahavi warned Bayern against insisting on the contract.

"Of course they can keep Robert for another year, to be fair he has a contract until 2023, but I wouldn't recommend that to them," Zahavi told German daily Bild.

He added that the issue for Lewandowski is not about extra money.

"He has felt disrespected by those in charge (at Bayern) for months, that's the truth. FC Bayern has not lost Lewandowski the player, but Robert the person."

Zahavi said he hopes Bayern's senior figures "will think about it again" and allow Lewandowski the opportunity "to fulfil a lifelong dream and move to the club (Barcelona) he has always dreamed of."

A back-to-back winner of FIFA's best male player award, Lewandowski has won every title available since joining Bayern in 2014, including eight Bundesliga trophies for a total of 10 having won two with ex-club Dortmund.

He added that the issue for Lewandowski is not about extra money. "He has felt disrespected by those in charge (at Bayern) for months, that's the truth. FC Bayern has not lost Lewandowski the player, but Robert the person." Zahavi said he hopes Bayern's senior figures "will think about it again" and allow Lewandowski the opportunity "to fulfil a lifelong dream and move to the club (Barcelona) he has always dreamed of." A back-to-back winner of FIFA's best male player award, Lewandowski has won every title available since joining Bayern in 2014, including eight Bundesliga trophies for a total of 10 having won two with ex-club Dortmund. 'My story has come to an end': Robert Lewandowski confirms he will be leaving Bayern Munich

Champions Bayern Munich squandered a two-goal lead to end their season with a 2-2 draw at VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday but of more concern was confirmation that top striker Robert Lewandowski said he wanted to leave the club.

With the Pole in the starting line-up after informing the club of his wish to leave and not extend his contract that runs out next year, Bayern were in control from the start.

Josip Stanisic headed them in front in the 17th minute, setting a new league record with the club`s 48th away goal in a season.

Bundesliga: Sloppy Bayern Munich draw in season finale, Robert Lewandowski ready to leave

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said he had turned down Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich "a few times" to stay at Anfield and urged his side to "enjoy the journey" as they keep up their quadruple chase against Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Liverpool won the League Cup in February. They trail Premier League leaders Manchester City by three points with two games to go, and they will face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Asked about the challenges the side face, Klopp told reporters at Liverpool`s training ground on Friday: "Which club should I go to, to have a different situation? I could have gone to Bayern a few times, I could have won more titles in my life, pretty sure I would say - I didn`t do it."

"I had a contract here... and that`s completely fine. The world is not full of winners, the world is full of triers hopefully. And I try and sometimes I win with some other people together. I am happy with that."

Liverpool are aiming to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2006, having lost to Chelsea in their last final appearance a decade ago.

"It would mean the world to us, that`s the truth," said Klopp, who signed a new contract last month that will keep him at the club until 2026.

The German added that they were desperate for FA Cup success but they would savour a remarkable season even if they lose.

Jurgen Klopp reveals he turned down an offer from Bayern Munich to extend stay at Liverpool

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski heaped praise on the German team`s 'huge achievement' after they won their 10th consecutive Bundesliga crown with three games to spare on Saturday.

Bayern defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in front of a sold-out home crowd to go 12 points clear at the top of the table.
They have now won 31 Bundesliga titles since the introduction of the top division in 1963, and 32 German league crowns in all.

"It`s not always easy to be consistent and play great football throughout the campaign," Lewandowski said.
"Perhaps in a couple of years, people will realise what a huge achievement 10 titles in a row is."

Forward Thomas Mueller, who became the first player to win 11 league titles, said nothing could beat the feeling of winning the Bundesliga.

"You don`t have that situation often enough, to win the championship against your direct rivals in a home game. We really wanted to do that," Mueller said.

Midfielder Jamal Musiala said he was "overwhelmed" after scoring the third goal which sealed their victory against Dortmund, while Joshua Kimmich also delighted with their "special" achievement.

"It may seem normal for outsiders, but it takes a lot of hard work. We`re really happy and proud to reach this big goal," Kimmich added.

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn said they cannot simply push a button to make striker Robert Lewandowski sign a new contract. Poland international Lewandowski, who has scored 32 league goals this season and is on course to finish as the Bundesliga`s top scorer for a fifth straight year, is contracted to Bayern until 2023.

"We are in communication with Robert and want him to stay with Bayern for as long as possible," Kahn told Sport1.

"Apparently, some believe that such talks and contract negotiations are like an online manager`s game, where I click somewhere and he then extends his contract.

"Robert is a player who has the potential to score 30, 40 goals every year. Of course, at some point such players get the idea: `I have achieved everything here and won everything`. Then it takes time to convince them to stay."

Kahn also hit out at the online abuse suffered by coach Julian Nagelsmann, who said he had received hundreds of death threats following their Champions League quarter-final exit.

"You have to be able to take criticism and put it behind you," Kahn said. "That`s part and parcel of playing for FC Bayern.

Bayern Munich were stunned as underdogs Villarreal scored an 88th-minute equaliser through substitute Samuel Chukwueze to snatch a 1-1 draw and reach the Champions League semi-finals with a 2-1 aggregate win over the Germans on Tuesday.

Six-time European champions Bayern, who had won 12 of their previous 13 home games in the competition, levelled the tie when Robert Lewandowski drilled the ball in off the post after 52 minutes with his 13th Champions League goal of the season.

Yet despite controlling the game they failed to score again. Instead, it was Villarreal, semi-finalists in 2006, who netted against the run of play with Chukwueze beating goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with a left-foot effort to silence the home crowd.

Villarreal will play Liverpool or Benfica in the last four, with the English side leading 3-1 after the first leg in Portugal, with the return at Anfield on Wednesday. "We feel a lot of happiness. Ever since the draw paired us with Bayern, we have been telling ourselves that we could do it," Villarreal forward Gerard Moreno said. "The belief and the way this team competes has helped us to achieve it."

"In the first leg we made the mistake of not finishing the tie, and all the comments serve as motivation for us. They made the mistake today of not killing us off and we took advantage of that."

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann fielded an attacking formation with Jamal Musiala, Lewandowski and Thomas Mueller upfront but they had only one effort on target in the first half with Musiala`s weak header on the half-hour mark.
Villarreal, unchanged from last week`s 1-0 win in Spain, were comfortable with staying back and efficiently absorbing the waves of Bayern attacks while remaining a threat on the break.

But Unai Emery`s team looked out of sorts after the break, piling up errors and losing possession as Bayern instantly upped the pressure. Home defender Dayot Upamecano should have done better when his shot from eight metres flew over the bar in the 49th minute but Lewandowski did not miss three minutes later.

Bayern intercepted a sloppy Villarreal pass and the Pole finished the quick move with a low drive off the post.
The Bavarians, who had scored a total of 20 goals in their previous four home games in the competition this term, came close to a second goal in the 71st but Mueller`s diving header went wide.

It was left to Villarreal, Europa League winners last year, to punished the hosts with a sucker punch through Nigeria winger Chukwueze, to reach the semis for the first time in 16 years.

"If you want to achieve something in this competition you need to beat the big teams," Emery said. "We took the first step (in the last 16) with Juventus. With Bayern we analysed the game well."

"Now Benfica or Liverpool it is the same. We have a semi- where we will try to use our chances," he added.

Samuel Chukwueze's late equaliser helps Villarreal shock Bayern Munich to reach Champions League semis

Villarreal stunned six times European Cup winners Bayern Munich with a deserved 1-0 win after creating a hatful of chances in a frantic Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday.

In the end Nigerian-born Dutch forward Arnaut Danjuma's eighth minute strike gave Unai Emery's side a slender lead for the second leg at the Allianz Arena in Munich next Tuesday.

Villarreal took the game to Bayern and should probably have won by a larger margin given their clear opportunities.

The Europa League holders suffocated Julian Nagelsmann’s team, who struggled to find their touch in the final third, and were a constant menace to keeper Manuel Neuer on the counter.

Villarreal had a Francis Coquelin effort chalked off by VAR for offside while Gerard Moreno almost scored twice - first with a long-range strike that hit the post and later trying to lob Neuer with an effort from inside his own half that went wide.

Danjuma and Alfonso Pedraza wasted two clear chances in the last few minutes, missing the target from inside the area.

"Our team is very hungry and humble," Man-of-the-Match Giovani Lo Celso told Movistar Plus. "But we faced one of the best teams in the world and we go out with the sensation that we should have scored several more goals."

"We knew that we needed to shorten the field for them - they are a team that can’t have spaces to work the ball. We played our game, we are a team that always try to be the protagonist and we had a lot of opportunities to win by a bigger margin."

Villarreal coach Unai Emery has won a record four Europa League titles - three with Sevilla - and his current side look to have inherited his DNA and adapted it to the Champions League in their efforts to compete toe-to-toe with the leading clubs.

They eliminated Juventus in the last 16 and have now shocked Bayern, who were unbeaten in this year's competition and tasted their first Champions League defeat away from home since 2017.

The build-up to Villarreal's winner started with Moreno, who is the heart and soul of the Yellow Submarine.

He received the ball close to the right touchline and played it through to Lo Celso whose low cross was struck first time by Dani Parejo. Neuer looked to have it covered but Danjuma got there first and stroked the ball home from close range.

"We know that it will be a completely different game in Germany," captain Parejo told reporters.

A world record crowd for a women’s football match of 91,553 saw Barcelona cruise into the Champions League semi-finals by thrashing Real Madrid 5-2 at Camp Nou on Wednesday to seal an 8-3 win on aggregate.

The crowd figure surpassed the previous record for a women’s match when 90,185 watched the 1999 World Cup final between the United States and China at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

It also smashed the previous record attendance for a women’s club fixture, set in March 2019 as 60,739 supporters saw Barca beat Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain needed extra-time to secure a 2-2 home draw with Bayern Munich to progress 4-3 on aggregate.

Barcelona were eager to give Wednesday’s fixture as much visibility as possible.

The club’s 147,000 members were allowed 24 hours to book up to four free tickets, with only an administration charge due of 2.50 euros. Non-members were then able to buy tickets for between 9 to 15 euros.

The reigning European champions advance to the semi-finals where they will face the winners of Arsenal and Wolfsburg.

Alexia Putellas, winner of the women’s Ballon d’Or in November, added Barcelona’s fourth after also scoring twice in the 3-1 first leg win.

“It was magical – the game finished and nobody wanted to go home,” Putellas said.

“We were celebrating with the fans, it’s amazing. There were so many people, so many girls. What happened today was historic.”

Bachmann puts PSG through

It started well for Barca when, in the eighth minute, Jenni Hermoso passed back for Mapi Leon out on the right and her in-swinging cross caught Misa out of position, the ball curling over the Madrid goalkeeper and in.

But Barca’s lead was short-lived as Olga Carmona’s driven shot caught the right elbow of Irene Paredes and Olga steered the penalty into the corner.

Madrid were gaining in confidence as the half wore on and shortly after the interval, they pulled ahead, Claudia Zornoza scoring a stunning goal from distance. With Madrid breaking through the middle on the break, Zornoza took over, spotted Sandra Panos off her line and lobbed the keeper from all of 40 yards.

Barca’s aggregate advantage was cut to one and nerves might have begun to take hold. Instead, they scored twice in three minutes to all-but end Madrid’s hopes.

First, Madrid were beaten to a loose ball in midfield and Hermoso played quickly to Aitana Bonmati, who was given too much room to nip inside and find the corner.

Then, Fridolina Rolfo’s overhit pass was tidied up by Claudia Pina, who drifted forward and clipped a shot into the far corner.

With progress secured, Barcelona began to enjoy themselves and seven minutes later, Putellas made it four, her shot through the legs of Babett Peter squirming through the hands of Misa, who should have done better.

Caroline Hansen added a fifth at the back post after a surging run down the left by Rolfo. The biggest cheer of the night then came in injury-time, when the big screen showed the attendance.

In Paris, substitute Ramona Bachmann grabbed the extra-time goal which gave PSG an aggregate 4-3 win over a Bayern side missing 12 players through injury and illness.

Swiss star Bachmann drifted away from her marker to score into the far corner past the dive of goalkeeper Janina Leitzig.

Sandy Baltimore had given the French side a 17th minute lead with a clever lob.

However, Bayern levelled on the night through Saki Kumagai just two minutes later.

Klara Buehl, who had also scored in the first leg, then put the German side in front and level on aggregate on 54 minutes with a shot deflected in by Lea Schueller.

PSG will face either seven-time champions Lyon or Juventus for a place in the final.

What happened today was historic.” Bachmann puts PSG through It started well for Barca when, in the eighth minute, Jenni Hermoso passed back for Mapi Leon out on the right and her in-swinging cross caught Misa out of position, the ball curling over the Madrid goalkeeper and in. But Barca’s lead was short-lived as Olga Carmona’s driven shot caught the right elbow of Irene Paredes and Olga steered the penalty into the corner. Lewandowski attains special feat, not even achieved by Ronaldo and Messi, in Champions League history

Bayern Munich were at their clinical best as they blew RB Salzburg away in the UEFA Champions League round of 16-second leg on Tuesday, Robert Lewandowski scoring the first three of their seven goals.

If Bayern were somewhat subdued during their 1-1 draw in Austria in the first leg, they were anything but in this Munich return at Allianz Arena.

Lewandowski, not for the first time, spearheaded the goal glut for Julian Nagelsmann's men, converting two penalties after being felled by Maximilian Wober twice then blocking a clearance from goalkeeper Philipp Kohn and tapping in to seal a quickfire hat-trick inside 23 minutes.

Serge Gnabry all but rubber-stamped Bayern's place in the last eight with a fourth goal before half-time but there was no let-up after the break.

Thomas Muller gleefully helped himself to two goals, either side of Maurits Kjaergaard's excellent consolation, with Leroy Sana thumping in number seven late on - it was a record seventh time the Bavarian outfit had hit seven in a game in the competition.
