The iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will host the one-off Test between the game’s oldest rivals, Australia and England, in March 2027 to celebrate this format’s 150th anniversary, Cricket Australia announced in a statement on Sunday (August 18).&nbsp;

MCG and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) are locked in to host the Boxing Day and New Year’s Test, respectively, till 2031, while Adelaide Oval will host the pre-Christmas Test in either day and night or day format for the next seven years.

A standalone celebratory match at MCG will honour the inaugural Test played at this venue from March 15-19 in 1877.&nbsp;

"The 150th anniversary Test match at the MCG in March 2027 will be a wonderful celebration of the pinnacle format of the game at one of the world's great sporting arenas, and we can't wait to host England on that occasion,” Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Nick Hockley said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, this one-off match will replicate the Centenary Test held in 1977 (from 12-17 March) to mark 100 years of Test cricket, which Australia won by 45 runs. Veterans Rod Marsh and Derek Randall hit hundreds, while Dennis Lillee picked 11 wickets in that match.

This decision means the iconic Gabba in Brisbane, which hosted the season’s curtain-raiser for over four decades, will not host the opener from now. While Perth will host the 2025-26 men’s Ashes first Test, Gabba is guaranteed a pre-Christmas day-night Ashes Test besides being scheduled to host a Test match against India later this summer.

Given Brisbane will host the 2032 Summer Olympics, the Gabba will be redeveloped, meaning it will not host a Test match for a considerable period after the next men’s Ashes Test there.&nbsp;

"In Brisbane, it is harder [to plan] because of the infrastructure," Baird, CA chairman said.&nbsp;

"There is just uncertainty, so we're not sure of the long-term solution. What we do know is the Gabba has a use for life that ends in 2030. We need a solution and are working with the AFL as well on a long-term solution.

Asked to bat first, the pair of David Warner (39) and Travis Head (34) stitched a partnership of 70 runs for the opening wicket.

"I've been thinking about it for a while, a few weeks," he added. "England vs Australia has always been the pinnacle for me - I have loved the battles with Australia that have come my way and the team's way, I have a love affair with Ashes, and I think I wanted my last bat and bowl to be in Ashes cricket.

"I told Stokesy [Ben Stokes] last night and told the changing room this morning, and, to be honest, it just felt the right time, and I didn't want friends or Nottinghamshire team-mates to see things that might come out, so I prefer to just say it now, and just give it a good crack for the last Australia innings.

"I have thought a lot about it, and even up till 8 pm last night, I was 50/50. But when I went up to Stokesy's room and told him, I have felt really happy since and content with everything I have achieved," Broad added.

Australia may have retained the Ashes urn but their style of play in the ongoing series in England has left everyone baffled. With England ploughing their way via hyper-aggressive Bazball, the usually 'in you face' Aussies have stuck to a calm and content approach.&nbsp;

The juxtaposed styles of play were visible on the first two days of fifth Test as well. England scored 283 run in their first innings in just 54.4 overs while Australia scored almost similar runs (295) in almost double the number of overs. By looking at the Aussies play as less attacking team, former England skipper Michael Vaughan said that he's never seen the Kangaroos play with so much fear.

“They are taking home the urn, but I’ve never seen Australia play with so much fear,” Vaughan told BBC Test Match Special.

“They are usually so aggressive and try to take the game forward. They have just sat in to bat a long period of time without remembering you have to put a bit of pressure on the bowlers.”

“This morning I thought it was the worst I’ve ever seen Australia bat in my time watching them. They never play like that.”

Former Australia skipper Mark Taylor also thought that Australians should be more proactive in their approach.

“No doubt England bowled well, but you have to tell the opposition you are after them as much as they are after you,” Taylor said on Sky Sports commentary.

“I’m not suggesting for a minute we try to match Bazball, but be a bit more proactive.”

As for the match, the two teams will now engage in an one-inning shoot out after Australia were bowled out for 295 in their first innings on day 2. The visitors, although took a 12-run lead, but that seems negligible before England's aggressive style of play.

The Aussies, leading 2-1 in series, are looking to win their first Ashes in England in over two decades as England try and equal the home series.

"We are all professionals and adults here and think it's the first time for a long time that we've really been treated like adults and that's made a big difference," Khawaja added.

Khawaja's comments come a year after Australia's former head coach Justin Langer's resignation. While Australia enjoyed good success under Langer, he didn't have a smooth ride with the national team, with many raising concerns over his strict approach. In&nbsp;a documentary, Khawaja stated that players were afraid of Langer during Ashes 2019. Since his exit, Andrew McDonald has taken over and by Khawaja's recent admission, it seems the Australian players are now in a much better space in the dressing room.

Ashes 2023 edition's second Test kicks off on June 28 at Lord's. Khawaja-starrer Australia will look to go 2-0 up versus England and get closer to retaining the urn.

England Test captain Ben Stokes has assured fans that there's nothing to worry about regarding his knee and he fully plans to bowl in the upcoming Ashes series against Australia at home. Stokes's left knee has been a topic of discussions as the all-rounder has had to manage it for years and his recent catch in the one-off Test against Ireland put him in a bit of pain.

Speaking on the catch which he took at short fine leg to dismiss Ireland's Curtis Campher, Stokes, at the post-match presentation, said, "I actually didn't pick it (ball) up, and I actually landed quite awkwardly on it (knee). My weight went on the inside of my knee, like I hyper-extended."

The English captain was in discomfort after the catch and didn't bowl in the match, which England won by 10 wickets. He, however, had bowled before the start of play on day 3 and said he was 'happy with where I was.'

While the knee certainly has been a pain point for Stokes, he said that his discomfort after the catch was more of because of age and he twisted it in a strange way.

"I didn't quite see it so had to adjust myself and landed on my left leg and it twisted in a really strange way. It was fine, I just don't know what really happened. It was one of those things - but I am 32 tomorrow so that probably explains it," added the English skipper.

Stokes was also asked whether he'd sit out at any point during the course of the Ashes if he'd not able to bowl to which replied in a firm no.
