Women's WC Final: England look for title defence as undefeated Australia gears up for seventh championship

<p>Danni Wyatt scored her second one-day international century and Sophie Ecclestone took six wickets as champions England crushed South Africa by 137 runs on Thursday to set up a mouthwatering Women's World Cup final against heavyweights Australia.</p>

<p>Wyatt, dropped five times, punished South Africa with 129 off 125 balls to help England build an imposing 293 for eight at Christchurch's Hagley Oval.<br />
South Africa had won the toss and elected to field.</p>

<p>Ecclestone, the world's top-ranked spinner, celebrated a personal best 6-36 as South Africa collapsed to be all out for 156.</p>

<p>"Really pleased, that was a really complete performance from the girls today, something we’ve been searching for," England captain Heather Knight said.</p>

<p>Resuming the third session at 215/5, Mark Wood dismissed Cameron Green on 74 runs as he got caught out by Zak Crawley, with the team's total at 236/6. Carey was then joined by Starc who took the team's total to 241/6 before the rain ended the play on Day 1.</p>

<p>Earlier before the tea break, Travis Head scored his fourth Test hundred but fell on the next ball. For Green, it was back to-back fifties as Australia went past the 200-run mark in the second session.</p>

<p>Stokes rode his luck during his 66-run knock as he incredibly escaped a bowled dismissal off the bowling of Cameron Green. The incident happened during the 31st over of England's first innings when Stokes was batting in the middle. It was an in-swinging delivery from Green which almost knocked off Stokes' off stump.</p>

<p>The ball nipped back in and kissed the off stump but the bails remained intact and didn't fall which saw Stokes survive. The England all-rounder&nbsp;along with Green and other Aussie players were left stunned as the bails didn't even move. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to react to Stokes' escape and raised a valid question.</p>

<p>Tendulkar asked the cricket fans if a law should be introduced called 'hitting the stumps' to be fair to the bowlers when a ball hits the stump but bails are not dislodged. <p>Former India and South Africa coach Gary Kirsten has expressed interest in coaching England's Test side, saying it would be a "lovely project " to revive the fortunes of Joe Root and his men.</p>

<p>Current head coach Chris Silverwood's job hangs in balance as England's Ashes hopes went up in smoke in 12 days after Australia retained the Urn with an innings and 14-run win in just two days and a session in the Boxing Day Test earlier this week.</p>

<p>Kirsten had guided India to No.1 in the Test rankings for the first time in December 2009, just over a year after taking over. He later achieved the same feat with South Africa.</p>

<p>"Listen, it (the England job) is always a consideration because it's a tremendous honour,' Kirsten told the 'I News'.<br />
This is not the first time the South African has expressed interest in the job, Kirsten was the frontrunner to become England's coach twice before.</p>
