The first episode quickly reveals all the main faces of Rudra's life - his estranged wife Shaila, portrayed by Esha, his co-worker, his boss played by Ashwini Kalsekar. Then there is Raashii Khanna who makes her OTT debut with the complex yet the intriguing character of Dr Aliyah Choksi, a criminal and super-intelligent person who builds an unusual bond with Rudra.</p>

<p>The screenplay is not as intriguing as we expected but we must add that the story is simple and is an easy watch. So, it manages to grip the audience without giving a headache.</p>

<p>There are some flaws of course in this old-school hero drama with the story being stretched unnecessarily demanding viewers' time with long dialogues.&nbsp;</p>

Khanna's role is smart, her eyes are shiny and grab your attention every time she comes in the frame, but somewhere her character lacks depth and feels like something is unfinished.</p>

<p>Note-worthy performances are delivered by Atul Kulkarni as a cop and Ashwini Kalsekar as a boss and KC Shankar. Meanwhile, Esha, who has made her way back to acting, is not impressive at all.</p>

<p>All over, Ajay Devgn starrer series is truly an Indian version with ample drama, emotion, thriller. Somewhere the story falters with slow screenplay, stretched episodes and has various flaws, but good casting manages to save the series.</p>

Visual opulence, stunning sets make the film a quintessential Bhansali big-budget blockbuster but 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' scores over and above the obvious- for its performances, for a distinctly feminist voice, for re-telling a story about a section that is always overlooked in Indian society.</p>

<p>Based on chapters from the book ‘Mafia Queens Of Mumbai’ by Hussain Zaidi, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' is set in the early 1950s and spans over 15 years nearly and showcases the journey of a girl called Ganga who came to Mumbai to become a heroine, was sold off to a brothel by her lover and eventually made Kamathipura- Mumbai's famous red-light district, her home and its people her family.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bhatt plays the young vulnerable, starry-eyed Ganga, who decides to elope one day with the man who she thinks loves her and has promised her the stars. On her arrival to Bombay, she is taken to a brothel, sold off and kept captive for two days without any water or food. Guilty of running away from home without informing her parents, ashamed of the place she is has been sold to, Ganga decides to stay back and make prostitution her profession. Over some time, Ganga becomes Gangu, a name to reckon with in the area, who knows her worth and fights for the rights of her people.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A terrible encounter with a client makes Gangu go to the local ganglord Rahim Lala (Ajay Devgn) for justice. Impressed by her honesty, the two strike an uncanny friendship, helping Gangu gain prominence in the area, win local elections and become the voice of the people there.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Fuelled by theatrics, stunning camera work and detailed screenplay, 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' is an engrossing&nbsp;<br />

She offers her name as mother's name and when probed to reveal the father's name, nonchalantly declares 'Dev Anand' highlighting the patriarchy that is imbibed in the system. Then a scene where she delivers a long lecture at Azad Maidaan- she uses humour and facts to highlight the importance of prostitutes in society. In another scene, she reasons with the women why do men have so much arrogance when women are the ones who handle everything.&nbsp;</p>

But Alia brings in so much gravitas to her character that it is hard to look at anyone else in the film when Alia is around. TV actor Shantanu Maheshwari makes an impressive debut as Afsan, the man who falls head over heels for Gangu, never crosses the line and gains respect and affection from her in return. Bhatt and Maheshwari's scenes are all about first love and the two beautifully perform to it. Vijay Raaz plays a eunuch with so grace and dignity and is the person who makes Gangu aspire for a political career. Then there Jim Sarbh, who plays a journalist who helps Gangu become a national sensation. The actors fit their role well and deliver to their script, never overstepping Bhatt - who is truly the hero of the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The songs have the Bhansali trademark. Slow soulful numbers- mostly picturised when Bhatt is seen romancing Maheshwari. The fast numbers are traditional Garba numbers- which may remind you of songs of 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee- a frequent collaborator with Bhansali- makes the film visually so rich. Scenes where the girls get dressed sitting on a bench minutes before they head out to attract possible customers seem like paintings. For the unversed, the advance bookings were not opened for the Akshay Kumar-starrer till Thursday night due to a tiff between the producers and exhibitors on revenue sharing. Reportedly, the producers of the film demanded a 60 per cent revenue share in the first week and also wanted theatre owners to provide a maximum number of shows to 'Sooryavanshi'.<br />

Thankfully, the stalemate between multiplex chains and the producers of `Sooryavanshi`, Reliance Entertainment finally ended.<br />

Shetty presents Akshay Kumar as the daredevil,&nbsp;a reckless cop Veer Suryavanshi, who has a problem in remembering names and following protocols. But since he is always successful in nabbing the wrong guy, all is forgiven by his seniors. He also has a problematic relationship with his wife Ria (Katrina Kaif) who is on the verge of leaving him and migrating to Australia with their son.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
While his domestic life is not hunky-dory, at work he is given a mission to nab some of the key members of terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba who are planning an attack on Mumbai and conduct a series of blasts across the city - in a similar fashion as the 1993 blasts that had rocked the city. Kumar and his team of extremely well-built men have limited time to thwart a calamity of gigantic proportion but when has time constraint been a problem for our Bollywood hero.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The film plays to the gallery from the beginning, stereotypes most Muslim characters and starts blaming the neighbour country almost from the start of the film. Just when you settle down to watch a nationalistic, anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan film, Shetty flips the narrative and tries to show some 'good', honest and patriotic Muslim characters. If there are four scenes where the film bashes a certain community, it quickly tries to correct itself in the next two scenes- explaining that how the film is not anti-religion but anti-terrorism. It's like they are almost trying to justify their jingoistic narrative with constant harping of how unified our country is.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Akshay Kumar looks fit but slightly uninterested in the film. He appears weary, tired in many of the scenes and not in his usual elements. Surprising, because he gets to perform high-octane stunts. He hangs from helicopters and jumps off buildings and speeding cars yet Kumar's performance appears slightly jaded. He looks tired and he is not in his usual elements. The film's leading lady Katrina Kaif usually huffs and puffs in anger or appears sexy and beautiful serenading the hero in songs. There's isn't much for her to do in a Rohit Shetty film and we aren't surprised.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Rohit Shetty sticks to basics. He has his characters breaking into random Marathi on and off, blows of cars and buses, and even gets a tanker in the end. But unlike his previous films, 'Sooryavanshi' meanders too much around the main plot. Till the interval, the film lacks thrills and is quite -dare-I-say- boring. It doesn't help that the film has an extremely jarring background score which can make you go deaf by the end.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The real action begins when Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn join in during the climax playing their cop avatars Simbaa and Singham respectively. Singh hams through his part but still brings in the laughs while Devgn gets to bash the goons in his signature style. It is a delight to watch the three actors together- especially the two action heroes of the 1990s- play their old selves on screen, performing mind-numbing stunts, and bashing up the bad guys.&nbsp;</p>

'Sooryavanshi' comes at a time when a certain section of the society is quite polarised with its views. And who better than Akshay Kumar to deliver a message of communal harmony while bashing the villains. It could be a coincidence that all of them belong to the minority community or maybe not.&nbsp;<br />

'Sooryavanshi' only manages to create half of the impact that it intended to create on its audience. We have seen better Rohit Shetty films, we have seen better films from Akshay Kumar. It does leave you partially deaf, though.&nbsp;</p>

It's like they are almost trying to justify their jingoistic narrative with constant harping of how unified our country is. Akshay Kumar looks fit but slightly uninterested in the film. He appears weary, tired in many of the scenes and not in his usual elements. Surprising, because he gets to perform high-octane stunts. He hangs from helicopters and jumps off buildings and speeding cars yet Kumar's performance appears slightly jaded. He looks tired and he is not in his usual elements. The film's leading lady Katrina Kaif usually huffs and puffs in anger or appears sexy and beautiful serenading the hero in songs. There's isn't much for her to do in a Rohit Shetty film and we aren't surprised. Rohit Shetty sticks to basics. He has his characters breaking into random Marathi on and off, blows of cars and buses, and even gets a tanker in the end. But unlike his previous films, 'Sooryavanshi' meanders too much around the main plot. Till the interval, the film lacks thrills and is quite -dare-I-say- boring. It doesn't help that the film has an extremely jarring background score which can make you go deaf by the end. The real action begins when Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn join in during the climax playing their cop avatars Simbaa and Singham respectively. Singh hams through his part but still brings in the laughs while Devgn gets to bash the goons in his signature style. It is a delight to watch the three actors together- especially the two action heroes of the 1990s- play their old selves on screen, performing mind-numbing stunts, and bashing up the bad guys. 'Sooryavanshi' comes at a time when a certain section of the society is quite polarised with its views. And who better than Akshay Kumar to deliver a message of communal harmony while bashing the villains. It could be a coincidence that all of them belong to the minority community or maybe not. 'Sooryavanshi' only manages to create half of the impact that it intended to create on its audience. We have seen better Rohit Shetty films, we have seen better films from Akshay Kumar. It does leave you partially deaf, though.

The film ‘Mayday’ stars Ajay, Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh in the lead. It has been shot in Mumbai as well as Hyderabad so far. For the later part of the year, the actor is scouting for locations for the final schedule of shoot in Russia with a lean crew. The report also claimed that the final leg of the shoot will start in Mid-October. Reportedly, the 8-day final leg shoot will be shot at one of the 5 airports in Russia with Ajay, Rakul Preet Singh and Boman Irani.

<p>Every time you think that Bollywood cannot get more ridiculous with its content, it unlocks a new level. Filmmaker Abhishek Dudhaiya could have done wonders with the actual story of 'Bhuj: The Pride Of India'. The plot which is based on a real-life incident of how locals in the remote area of Bhuj, Gujarat, built an airstrip overnight under the able guidance of Airforce&nbsp;officer Vijay Srinivas Karnik during 1971 India-Pakistan war holds potential. The airstrip was built overnight mostly by women of nearby villages in order for the Airforce planes&nbsp;carrying the Indian army to land safely. It is truly a story of teamwork, courage and valour that would make for a wonderful film especially during the&nbsp;Indian Independence weekend. But what we get in 'Bhuj: The Pride Of India' is far from inspiring or entertaining.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is Ajay Devgn, who also serves as one of the co-producers of this bizarre film, playing Squadron Leader Vijay Srinivas Karnik. He has a lot going on when his airbase is attacked by the Pakistani Airforce, leaving many of his men injured or dead and an airstrip damaged&nbsp;for flying operations. In an extremely chaotic narrative- which loses focus of the timeline with a blink of an eye- we understand that Karnik gets able support from a local informer Ranchordas Pagi (Sanjay Dutt), a fighter pilot (Ammy Virk), an Army officer (Sharad Kelkar), a spy in Pakistan( Nora Fatehi) and a local woman(Sonakshi Sinha) who fights panthers nonchalantly with a sickle in one hand,&nbsp;holding a baby in the other, to ward off a catastrophe that could have cost India its western regions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With excruciating details given by glum looking actors on kilometres, distances, various airbases that fly off the head in greater speed than the Pakistani fighter jets bombarding Indian airbases- one's able to understand that the Bhuj Airbase, during the 1971 war, was targeted by the Pakistani army to gain control over western India. This was in retaliation to the Indian army's involvement in the Bangladesh liberation movement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While I may have sat through 113 minutes of the film to understand the crux of the plot so that it saves time for others, the film painstakingly takes more than 90 minutes to make the audience understand the actual story with multiple jump cuts, out of tune songs, kohl-eyed men, dollops of 'Jai Hind' thrown in at regular intervals and overall Islamophobia and Pakistani bashing. At one point, Fatehi's character shouts back at a Pakistani army officer that his country is the biggest traitor of Islam- a line meant for the gallery.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film has laughable CGI. I found myself laughing at the elaborate aerial stunts that the Indian and Pakistan fighters jets are shown to be embroiled in - exchanging missiles back and forth generously but missing the target predictably.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Not just the CGI but the action sequences, the screenplay, the dialogues all are unintentionally funny. The Pakistani characters sporadically break into complicated Urdu terms in the middle of proper Hindi sentences just to reiterate that they are Muslim. Then Sonakshi Sinha's character breaks into the most off-tune bhajan or war song (not sure ) in the history of Bollywood music amid rebuilding a crucial airstrip. Most characters shout but not speak to each other. Much like the screenplay, on several occasions, random extras run across the screen cluelessly. Devgn always sashays around the airstrip with two men by his side. When he is not ramp walking on the airstrip, he is rising from the ashes likes a Phoenix after surviving multiple aerial bombings at the base.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There's also south actress Pranitha Subhash who plays Devgn's wife- who in the two-hour runtime has not got a single dialogue. Her role involves looking at her husband helplessly throughout the film. The film is not just badly written but also has choppy editing. So many scenes just make no sense to an already jarring narrative.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Loud, jingoistic, irrational and borderline ridiculous- 'Bhuj:The Pride of India' is not for the faint-hearted. Keep the bottle of aspirin handy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On her birthday, Ajay Devgn wished wife with a special message. He wrote, &nbsp;"You have managed to bring a smile to my face for the longest time now... happy birthday dearest Kajol, will try to make it as special as you are.” The post carries a throwback picture of the two where Kajol laughs as Ajay smilingly looks on.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Maidaan’ hits a literal roadblock as sets got damaged by the cyclone that swept over the Indian subcontinent. Cyclone Tauktae hit the coastal regions of Maharashtra on May 17. It has led to the death of many people and has caused massive damage to property.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The cyclone damaged the sets of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/topics/ajay-devgn">Ajay Devgn</a>’s ‘Maidaan’.</p>

<p>There has been no casualty on the sets of the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The filming had begun earlier this year for the film but was stopped mid-way after the coronavirus cases increased exponentially in India. A large portion of the film is yet to be shot.</p>

<p>Joining him in the cause are others like filmmakers Anand Pandit, Boney Kapoor, Luv Ranjan, Rajneesh Khanuja, Leena Yadav, Ashim Bajaj, Sameer Nair, Deepak Dhar, Rishi Negi, entrepreneur Tarun Rathi and action-director RP Yadav who have made a contribution of over Rs 1 crore to the Smiley Account, the business development cell of the BMC.</p>
