Acting on the complaint of a Jaipur-based advocate, a consumer disputes redressal commission in the north Indian city has issued a notice to the Bollywood actors. The complaint states that the advertisement is misleading and holds no truth.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Jaipur also issued a similar notice to Vimal Kumar Agarwal, chairman of JB Industries that manufactures Vimal Pan Masala, and directed all parties to appear before it on March 19.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The notice issued by commission chairman Gyarsilal Meena states, "The hearing date has been fixed at 10 am. If you fail to appear in person or through your authorised representative, the complaint will be decided ex parte on the above-mentioned hearing date.&rdquo;</p>
<p>The commission also directed all the actors and the pan masala manufacturing company to file their responses within 30 days from the day of receipt of the notice.</p>
<h2><strong>Lawyer complains pan masala ad is "misleading"</strong></h2>
<p>The notice was issued on the basis of a complaint by Jaipur-based advocate Yogendra Singh Badiyal, who claimed the advertisement says "daane daane mein hai kesar ka dum (every grain of the said pan masala has the power of saffron)".&nbsp;</p>
<p>In his complaint, he says that the "applicant number one (JB Industries) is making crores of rupees and the common people are regularly consuming the pan masala which is harmful for health and inviting serious diseases like cancer.&rdquo;</p>
<p>The lawyer continued that the advert is luring the public to purchase the brand "in the name of saffron-containing gutkha".</p>
<p>"Common people are getting confused in the name of saffron while there is no mixture of any substance like saffron in the said product," he said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;The price of saffron in the market is Rs 4 lakh (400,00) per kg and the pan masala costs only Rs 5&rdquo;, he said.</p>
<p>"The saffron cannot be mixed, leave alone its fragrance," he added.</p>

Irfan Pathan, Ajay Devgn announce season 2 of World Championship of Legends

<p>Can we let the epics be? Rohit Shetty's latest film <em>Singham Again </em>- a part of his elaborate cop universe essembles some of the biggest stars of Bollywood to narrate an unoriginal story and borrows the full plot from Hindu epic mythology <em>Ramayan</em>. But at a time when films like <em>Adipurush</em> and the anime <em>Ramayan </em>are already available in the digital space, how good an idea is it to again refurbish a known story and force-feed it through Shetty's larger-than-life, over-the-top cop universe? Questions such as this and a few more remain unanswered throughout the runtime of the film.</p>

<p>The plot thanks to the makers and a very elaborate trailer (longest for a Hindi film, they claim) is already known. And so when you walk into the theatres, aware of the story, you expect the film to entertain you with its dialogue <em>baazi</em>, its action sequences and more. Yet Shetty's film - the third in the Singham franchise - is formulaic and plays to gallery with predictable moves and lines.</p>

<h2><strong>The Plot of <em>Singham Again</em></strong></h2>

<p>In Rohit Shetty's modern-day <em>Ramayan,</em> Ajay Devgn aka Singham is Ram and Kareena Kapoor Khan is Sita who is abducted by Arjun, the Raavan. New entrants Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff join the cop universe along with old faces Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar and together Singham and his army of braveheart <em>deshbakhts,</em> they head to Sri Lanka to save and rescue Avni. Yes, exactly how it's shown in the trailer- just an elaborate version of the 5 minute trailer where each character is given an extended introduction scene- a fight sequence and a Ramayan parallel, just so that no one ever gets confused as to who plays what.</p>

<h2>What works and what does not</h2>

<p>The last Shetty film that I had genuinely enjoyed was <em>Simmba</em>. Singh in his over-the-top cop avatar entertained and how! In <em>Singham Again,</em> I desperately waited for the actor's appearance knowing that he would be getting the best lines. And writers Milap Zaveri, Shantanu Srivastava, Vidhi Ghodgaonkar and Shetty do reserve the best lines for Singh who alone uplifts the second half with his buffoonery. Sure it is over the top but it comes as a much-needed respite amid long drawn mythology lesson.</p>

<p>Singham's first half is awfully slow. The action sequences, the picturesque locations of Kashmir, Devgn's swagger and the SUVs do not do much to uplift the film's first half. Deepika and Tiger Shroff's introduction scenes seem straight out of other films that the actors have featured in. Deepika's looks like a character from Shetty's other blockbuster Chennai Express while Shroff seemed to have been recruited directly from the sets of Baaghi while learning Kalaripayattu. Arjun Kapoor grins too much and creates less mayhem for the evil character he is poised as. All black ensemble and an errie background score also don't make this Raavan appear too dangerous.</p>

<p>The film salvages itself in the scenes where Singh uses his perfect comic timing to uplift a generic plot. There are references to<em> Gangs Of Wasseypur, Gadar </em>- all delivered by Singh that make you&nbsp;crack up. The plot thanks to the makers and a very elaborate trailer (longest for a Hindi film, they claim) is already known. And so when you walk into the theatres, aware of the story, you expect the film to entertain you with its dialogue baazi, its action sequences and more. Yet Shetty's film - the third in the Singham franchise - is formulaic and plays to gallery with predictable moves and lines. Yes, exactly how it's shown in the trailer- just an elaborate version of the 5 minute trailer where each character is given an extended introduction scene- a fight sequence and a Ramayan parallel, just so that no one ever gets confused as to who plays what. What works and what does not The last Shetty film that I had genuinely enjoyed was Simmba. Singh in his over-the-top cop avatar entertained and how! In Singham Again, I desperately waited for the actor's appearance knowing that he would be getting the best lines. And writers Milap Zaveri, Shantanu Srivastava, Vidhi Ghodgaonkar and Shetty do reserve the best lines for Singh who alone uplifts the second half with his buffoonery. Sure it is over the top but it comes as a much-needed respite amid long drawn mythology lesson. Singham's first half is awfully slow. The action sequences, the picturesque locations of Kashmir, Devgn's swagger and the SUVs do not do much to uplift the film's first half. Deepika and Tiger Shroff's introduction scenes seem straight out of other films that the actors have featured in. Deepika's looks like a character from Shetty's other blockbuster Chennai Express while Shroff seemed to have been recruited directly from the sets of Baaghi while learning Kalaripayattu. Arjun Kapoor grins too much and creates less mayhem for the evil character he is poised as. All black ensemble and an errie background score also don't make this Raavan appear too dangerous. The film salvages itself in the scenes where Singh uses his perfect comic timing to uplift a generic plot. There are references to Gangs Of Wasseypur, Gadar - all delivered by Singh that make you crack up. “The story is by Kshitij Patwardhan. When Kshitij met Rohit, he already had this thought that what if we marry Ramayan with the <em>Singham</em> cop universe and create this story and I think Rohit loved it. Ideally, there should be no friction; we can easily co-exist. There is room for two films, especially during Diwali. I don’t understand this competitive argument, nor do I support it. Why can’t two films succeed on the same Friday? It’s happened before. I hope both Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again perform well. Ajay Devgn and I go way back—he starred in my non-comedy films Deewangee and Pyar Toh Hona Hi Tha. I’ve also worked on several hits with Akshay, and Singham director Rohit Shetty is a friend. Ajay Devgn’s Naam waited 10 years: Film set to release on November 22

<p>Indian filmmaker Amit Sharma, who has helmed projects like National Award-winning film <em>Badhaai Ho</em>&nbsp;and <em>Tevar&nbsp;</em>among others, is on cloud nine with the achievements of his recent offering,<em> Maidaan</em>. The movie revolving around the life and times of Syed Abdul Rahim, a pioneering football coach in India between 1952 and 1962, won the prestigious Best Asian Film Award at the Septimius Awards 2024 in Amsterdam.</p>

<p>"It's a proud moment, and it's for all of us. It is not <em>Maidaan</em>, it's the best Indian film in the whole of Asia. That's a bigger term and when an Indian film gets an award, competing with the whole of Asia, I just wanted to flaunt our Indian flag at that moment..." said the filmmaker in an exclusive interview with WION.</p>

<p>"I actually saw all the nominations over there on the screen - just before announcing the award. Then the announcement happened," said Sharma. "Nobody knew who I was. But then after I had the award in my hand, everybody wanted to know me," he said, adding, "They were coming from all over the world. So,&nbsp;in my heart, I wanted it. <p>The<em> Lust Stories 2</em>&nbsp;director also revealed a little about his conversation with Cuba Gooding Junior at the award ceremony. "He came to me and he said, you know, 'I've heard of Bollywood. I have seen some things, but, you know, all the films are music, dance and all that, and I've heard of this film. But I saw the saw trailer, it's on football.' So he said, 'even I got the award - let's click a picture together. Let's do cheers!" Sharma added that while people at the award ceremony weren't expecting an Indian film to take home the trophy, many of them reached out to him after watching <em>Maidaan</em>&nbsp;and appreciated his work.</p>

<p>"I was not very happy with the kind of numbers the film did. I was expecting more - because the kind of film it was, the feel it was giving on the big screen when you have Ajay Devgn, Gajraj Rao and Priyamani on your side," he said. Notably, the sports drama's subsequent release on OTT gave the film a bigger viewing window and many reached out to the filmmaker expressing how much they liked the film.</p>

<p>"It took about five and a half years to make that film. But the kind of reviews I got for the film, like everybody wrote amazing about this. I got so many calls... So, appreciation is the biggest award and it compensated for that," he shared.</p>

<p><em>Maidaan</em>&nbsp;was also amongst the films submitted in the race to become India's official entry for Oscars 2025. With <em>Laapataa Ladies</em>&nbsp;being announced as the Film Federation of India's pick, Sharma said, "I don't have to say anything about it - the selectors have selected the film. They must have thought about it. Everybody was expecting their film going for Oscars and even I was expecting that. But the selectors must have thought about it and only then taken the decision."</p>

<p>When asked if <em>Maidaan</em>&nbsp;will be submitted as an individual entry, Sharma said he would have a conversation with his producers and added, "I think this is the kind of story which will resonate with the world. Firstly, it's on a sport which is played by the whole world. Then it's an underdog story and nobody knows that India was so good in football at that time. Let's see what everybody collectively decides and takes this call." The director, however, has only good things to say about the movie revolving around two lost brides. "It is a wonderful film. I really liked it. So a big congratulations to Kiran Rao. It's a fantastic film, superb film."</p>

<p>Sharma, who was also elected to the Cannes Lions Craft Jury in 2016, explained how the perception towards Indian films is now changing. "The discrimination of how Indian films are treated or perceived outside India - it's important to break that. Because that is something which you need to tell them - the kind of emotions we carry, the western culture is not like that. Their emotion is dry. We are big on family, culture and expressing our feelings - things that might be considered loud otherwise. So, when an Indian film makes the cut, everyone takes notice," he explained.</p>

"In the past, films like 'Lagaan' have made it to Academy Awards, and it should have won, but the competition is so huge. We have to make, produce and direct the kind of films that can actually go and compete to win an Oscar because we haven't received an Oscar for a film yet... We got for Naatu Naatu, but not for the film. The western mindset is also changing for Indian films - example is in front of us - so now it's our responsibility also that we make those kinds of films and we enter those films. It can be in any language, not just Hindi. It can be Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or any other language. We have such a vast culture - we should promote and send those films for competition. The main thing is Indian film winning -&nbsp;<em>teri nahi, meri nahi, India ki film jeetni chaiye</em> - that's the most important thing. I am really hoping<em> Laapataa Ladies</em>&nbsp;wins at the Academy Awards," he opined.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At a time when re-releasing old films is helping the Indian box office make its way out of a slump, the filmmaker-producer is positive that good films which may not have worked during their initial release will get their due now. "Some of the good films that did not do too well at the time, like some of them are performing even better than their first release. 'Tumbbad', for example, I don't follow collections as such, but somebody told me the film broke its lifetime collection record in the first week only. It's good appreciation for the makers," he said, adding, that it's also a positive sign that people are returning to cinema halls for the big-screen experience.<br />

Up next, Sharma is juggling between two subjects - one of which is a war film that he's certain he'd make one day. "I have always wanted to make a war film - I've loved watching war films since I was a kid - it was always on my wishlist. I'll definitely make a war film - whether it's made now or in 2-3 years. I don't want to see what the trend is, I want to do things that excite me... Also, you need to get the actors - so for whichever film I find the cast, I will make that first," he signed off.</p>

<p><em>Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha</em>&nbsp;has made a conscious decision of postponing its release date. This means that <em>Kill</em> will be the only film that will run in theatres this weekend. The Tabu and Ajay Devgn starrer decided to postpone the film “on the request of the exhibitors and the distribution fraternity”.&nbsp;</p>

It had players like Chuni Goswami (Amartya Ray), PK Banerjee (Chaitanya Sharma), and Arun&nbsp;Ghosh - men who became stalwarts in the subsequent years in Indian football. The newly formed team has a herculean task ahead - and coming fourth in the 1956 Olympics doesn't help their case. How Rahim and his boys chart history at the 1962 Asian Games by winning Gold forms the rest of the story.&nbsp;</p>

It is Rahim's battle against bureaucracy and bias that is very well defined and I had hoped there would be more action on the field instead. Shama along with writers Saiwyn Quadras, Aman Rai and Atul Shahi shift the focus to the field only in the second half when the pace of the story truly picks up redeeming the dragging first half. The last hour of the film is truly exhilarating when the men in jerseys fight back with all their might on the field and create history.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shot by Tushar Kanti Ray and Fyodor Lyass, the film's camera work enhances the climax well - making it gripping and nail-biting even though you know the outcome.&nbsp;<br />

India&nbsp;</em>- a film that remains a textbook example of how to make sports biopics. <em>Maidaan </em>has a similar trope - an underdog who rises above all the odds and delivers along with a team that never gives up on him.&nbsp;<br />

<em>Maidaan</em> has Devgn delivering a restrained&nbsp;performance after a long time. He plays Rahim, a man who is sure of his craft but also humble and vulnerable at times. The film rests on his shoulders and he delivers well to his part.&nbsp;<br />

The rest of the actors - Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, Rudranil Ghosh, Amartya Ray, and Chaitanya Sharma have limited screen time but complement the narrative well. Rahman's background score is far superior than the soundtrack that he has composed for the film.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Bollywood is gearing up to release two big-budget films- <em>Bade Miyan Chote Miyan</em> and <em>Maidaan</em>- this Eid. The films- headlined by A-list Bollywood stars- were set to clash at the box office on April 10. However, the makers of both films have pushed the release date by a day.&nbsp;<br />

Now, both <em>Bade Miyan and Chote Miyan</em> and <em>Maidaan</em> will be released on April 11 and Maidaan will have paid previews available on April 10 from 6 pm onwards.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
<em>Maidaan</em> features Ajay Devgn and is a period drama by Amit Sharma, while Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff team up for the first time for Ali Abbas Zafar's action-comedy<em> Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.&nbsp;</em><br />

On Monday, the lead actors of the two films took to Instagram to announce the change in release date.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Janki Bodiwala may have come across as a new face to many as she made her Bollywood debut last month in Ajay Devgn-R Madahavn-Jyothika starrer <em>Shaitaan&nbsp;</em>but the actress is a well-known face in Gujarati cinema.&nbsp;<br />

A dentistry student, Janki made an impressive debut in Gujrati coming-of-age film <em>Chhello Divas</em> in 2015 and subsequently delivered hits like <em>Tamburo</em> and <em>Bau Na Vichar. </em>Her Bollywood debut <em>Shaitaan</em> helmed by Vikas Bahl is a remake of a Gujarati film called<em> Vash.</em> Directed by Krsihnadev Yagnik the original film too featured Janki and she said she was initially surprised when she was asked to reprise her role in the Hindi remake.&nbsp;<br />

"I was surprised when they told me they wanted to cast me for the same role. I was also nervous because now I would have to share screen space with Ajay Sir, Madhavan Sir and Jyothika Ma'am- all great actors and prove myself in front of them," said Janki.<br />

"I observed Ajay Devgn a lot on sets. He is punctual and prepared and ready with his scenes always. If you are an actor- no matter how big a name you are you must be prepared for a scene before you come to the sets. &nbsp;He and Jyothika Ma'am were very sporting also. I had to push them, and hurt them due to the demand of the script and I was quite nervous about it- but Ajay sir made me very comfortable, and asked me to be more aggressive so that it looks&nbsp;authentic. And the same with Jyothika. She looks so delicate but she did action scene herself - did not use body double. I loved their dedication to the craft. "<br />

<strong>On the difference in<em> Vash</em> and <em>Shaitaan</em> script</strong><br />
<br />
"The baseline is the same for both Gujarati and Hindi films. Both films talk of the ills of black magic. But of course, the graph and the vision of the two directors are different. Vikas sir's vision for my character was crooked. The way she smiles, the way she locks her parents in the storeroom - that was added in the Hindi film- not part of the original.&nbsp;The scene where I am sitting on top of the gas cylinder was an addition to the Hindi film. That chunk is not there in the Gujarati film," pointed out the actress.&nbsp;<br />

<strong>Eating biscuits and getting a sugar rush for a scene</strong><br />
<br />
A scene in <em>Shaitaan</em> involved Madhavan's character commanding Janaki to eat up an entire packet of raw tea leaves. Janaki revealed that the packet had Oreo biscuit crumbs in it.&nbsp;<br />

"In <em>Vash</em>, the tea packet was filled with Oreo in the top layer but had tea leaves in the bottom. Because of multiple takes, I did eat a lot of the tea leaves. In Shaitaan, however, the box was filled with biscuit crumbs and by the end of it- I had a major sugar rush.</p>

Kudos to the screenplay writer Aameel Kiyan Khan for writing something so gripping that even when I read the script I was feeling the same rush that the viewers had while watching the film," the actress said.&nbsp;<br />

She did find the physical action in the film difficult. "One has to be cautious that no one gets hurt while you are performing. But I was lucky- both while filming Gujarati and Hindi film- that my co-actors were supportive, they told me that that it is part of your job, even if we get hurt - don't worry, just do your job. If you have to show aggression on screen, do it- so that it looks authentic," she added.&nbsp;<br />

"The scene where my character urinates in front of her father was beautifully written. It demanded a lot from me as an actor and that scene was special. As an actor I had to show emotions to my father and through my eyes tell him to not come near me or else I would be compelled to hit him. Also, the subsequent sequence where Jyothika ma'am comes and changes my shorts was very aesthetically shot. It was such a delicate scene but so well written. As a performer I enjoyed doing that scene," recalled Janki.</p>

Ajay will be seen playing Indian coach Rahim who created history and records for India. Rahim trained and coached the players of that time for the impending Asian Games.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Based on a true story, <em>Maidaan</em> is directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma. Ajay essays the role of legendary Indian coach Syed Abdul Rahim, a man who breathes football and has the title of being called the architect of modern Indian football. In the trailer, his wife, played by Priyamani, calls football his first love.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Set in the timeline of the 1950s-60s, Syed Abdul Rahim dreams of forming a world-class football team which will put India on the world map. Based on their talents and without considering their socio-economic conditions, Syed Abdul Rahim chooses underdogs for the national team. The struggle begins when the government doesn't show the same faith in the team. The film's trailer pegs Maidaan very much like Chake De, where against odds, Ajay drives the team to victory.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film tackles those issues, how it is much more about politics than the actual sport -- which decides&nbsp;a game's fate in a country dealing with poverty and unemployment issues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As for the record, under Syed Abdul Rahim, India&nbsp;won gold medals in the Asian Games of (1951-Delhi and 1962-Jakarta) and played semi-finals of the Summer Olympics (1956-Melbourne) making India the first ever Asian country to achieve this place.</p>

<p>Never judge a book by its cover, and never judge a film by its trailer. Filmmaker Vikas Bahl's latest,&nbsp;<em>Shaitaan</em>'s first trailer had got the audience curious. The film's casting- Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan and Jyothika- the premise, the thrilling elements shown in the trailer- all made <em>Shaitaan </em>look very interesting. But does it match up to the expectations? Only partially.&nbsp;<br />

The story is simple. Based on the Gujarati film<em> Vash,</em> Shaitaan has Ajay Devgn playing Kabir who takes his family to their vacation home outside the city. On their way to the farmhouse, during a tea break at a local dhaba, they meet Vanraj (R Madhavan) -an over-friendly man who befriends the family of four over a cup of tea. Vanraj is particularly interested in talking to Kabir's teenage daughter Janvi (Janki Bodiwala) who seems too enamoured by the man in no time.<br />

Kabir and his wife Jyoti (Jyothika) do not suspect anything until hours later Vanraj ends up entering their sprawling farmhouse on the pretext of getting his phone charged. He doesn't leave and soon enough the family realises that he has hypnotised Janvi to an extent that she is now following every instruction of his to the T. She first hurts her younger brother Dhruv (Anngad Raj), slaps her father, and is also ready to stab her mother- all on Vanraj's instructions, who casually lies on their plush couch and plays a sinister game of controlling the family.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
At one point Kabir- a doting father- tells his daughter that he would find her from any corner of the earth if need be. But deep into the night as Vanraj creates mayhem, he is compelled to think if sacrificing his darling daughter to Vanraj might be a better idea- just to save his young, bleeding son and his wife.&nbsp;<br />

Shaitaan's screenplay by Aamil Keeyan Khan helps to create the perfect premise for the psychological horror film. Especially Madhavan, who plays his baddie act with such nonchalance that you understand how it's easy to be friends with someone so charming. He casually instructs a hypnotised Janvi to kill her family. He smiles and threatens the family with dire consequences if they don't listen to him and give their daughter to him.&nbsp;</p>

Complementing him in every scene is actress Janki Bodiwala who reprises her role as Janvi after playing it in the original Guajarati film. Janvi is aware of the ill deeds she is doing but is helpless. Janki's dialogues are limited but the young actress uses physical expression to deliver a stunning act. As the possessed Janvi, Janki manages to give you the creeps.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Ajay Devgn, meanwhile, plays the helpless father with much restraint. Considering he is the producer of the film and is known to play the larger-than-life hero in most films, you expect him to outwit Madhavan's character easily but the plot limits his reactions. Jyothika emotes through her eyes and delivers the role of a mother who doesn't want to give up the fight that easily.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Shaitaan starts on a high but ends with a whimper. Bahl's direction soars high in establishing a credible, edgy plot that loses focus in the second half. By the time the film is in its climactic finale,&nbsp;it becomes melodramatic and feels too stretched.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
I had hoped that Shaitaan would leave a lasting impression but it actually has a middling effect. You want to laud R Madhavan and Janaki Bodiwala's credible performances but the weak script lets the actors down to a great extent.&nbsp;Shaitaan was released in theatres this Friday.&nbsp;</p>
