<p>It is a battle between illiteracy and literacy in Tushar Jalota's new satire 'Dasvi'. Featuring Abhishek Bachchan as a corrupt illiterate, pompous CM of an imaginary state called Harit Pradesh, 'Dasvi' explores the lawlessness and corruption that exists in an Indian state where several ministers win electoral seats on the basis of influence, intimidation and muscle power but are seldom aware of the basics, and many times not even qualified to run a state.<br />

It is a premise that we have known all too well, but Jalota along with writers Suresh Nair and Ritesh Shah infuse humour into a partly inspired and part fictionalised story making 'Dasvi' quite heartwarming and entertaining.&nbsp;<br />

Bachchan plays the brash Ganga Ram Chaudhary, CM of Harit Pradesh who is put behind bars for one of the numerous scams he and his men are embroiled in. He knows he will be out in a matter of days and places his wife Bimla Devi (Nimrat Kaur) in his place as the acting CM. The initial few days inside the jail are mostly enjoyable for Chaudhary is given the usual VIP treatment that is meted out to most political leaders in Indian jails. Things go awry for him when a new superintendent Jyoti Desval (Yami Gautam Dhar) takes charge of the jail. A stickler&nbsp;for rules, Jyoti cuts Ganga to size and makes him do odd jobs inside the jail just like inmates. To escape the ordeal initially and then later after facing humiliation, Ganga Ram decides to take his 10th board exams which seems a herculean task for someone who has not studied beyond class VII. He declares that he would not take up the CM's post until he clears his 10th or dasvi.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, his wife, a coy housewife who has served her husband all her life, suddenly realises the importance of power and respect as she becomes the CM and isn't quite willing to leave it up once her husband is back. How Ganga ram overcomes his fear of subjects like Maths, Science and Hindi and attempts his exams forms the rest of the story.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
With punchlines galore,- “<em>Mall banega toh maal aayega. School banenge toh berozgari badhegi,</em>" (Contructing a mall will get you moolah, constructing a school will lead to unemployment) and quirky references to films like Taare Zameen Par, 'Dasvi' manages to keep the viewers smiling throughout.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
It helps that the casting is pitch-perfect. Despite several of his films not doing well at the box office, Bachchan has time and again proved his versatility. He is particularly good at comedy and 'Dasvi' seems like a perfect choice. His accent does slip a bit in some scenes, but as the gregarious, Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Bachchan is a delight to watch. He isn't hamming, the humour is sly and that's why more enjoyable.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
While Bachchan is the central character, the women are equally good sometimes even overpowering the lead actor with sheer screen presence and convincing performance. It was so refreshing to watch Nimrat Kaur play a role that is diametrically different from her real-life character. Initially submissive and meek, Bimla Devi comes into her own eventually and the transformation is a delight to watch. Gautam's role is of a no-nonsense cop who knows how to run a jail but also is a reformist and the actress truly delivers her part.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
'Dasvi' writing though only scratches the surface at times and doesn't delve deeper perhaps to keep the comedic mood alive. It does address a lot of issues- corruption, red-tapism, honour killing, middle school education and even dyslexia- a disorder that Bachchan himself had in his childhood, but it never goes too deep into any of these issues. The second half picks up pace but towards the climax, it seems slightly stretched.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Despite the flaws, I would recommend 'Dasvi'. It is well-intended, has its funny moments and is entertaining.&nbsp;<br />

Amitabh Bachchan hits back at trolls when asked why promoting Abhishek's 'Dasvi'

<p>Abhishek Bachchan and the team of 'Dasvi' organised the first screening of the film in Agra Central Jail on Wednesday.&nbsp;<br />

The actor had promised to hold an exclusive screening at the location for the inmates and kept his word.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Team 'Dasvi`, including Abhishek as well as co-stars Yami Gautam, Nimrat Kaur and director Tushar Jalota returned to the city to screen Dasvi for 2,000 prisoners.<br />
<br />
The grand set-up saw senior officials welcome the cast and crew of the upcoming film, which tells the story of Ganga Ram Chaudhary (Abhishek), an illiterate politician who finds takes up education as his new challenge whle in prison.<br />
<br />
Nimrat plays the role of Bimla Devi, Chaudhary's wife who has now taken over his Chief Minister seat while he is in jail. Yami marks her presence as IPS officer Jyoti Deswal. Abhishek took to his social media and shared a heartfelt note on fulfilling his promise.<br />
<br />
"A promise is a promise!! Last night I managed to fulfil a commitment I made a year ago. The first screening of our film #Dasvi was held for the guards and inmates of Agra Central Jail. We shot the film here. Their reactions are memories I will remember and cherish for a lifetime.</p>

It's unlike any other character he has played on screen and Bachchan delivers. So does Chitrangada Singh who plays his wife, completely in awe with the mysterious man.&nbsp;<br />

On his work front, Abhishek was last seen as `Bittu Tiwari` in Anurag Basu`s directorial film `Ludo`. The star has also started shooting for Shah Rukh Khan`s upcoming production titled `Bob Biswas`, which will be directed by Diya Annapurna Ghosh and directed by Gauri Khan, Gaurav Verma along with Sujoy Ghosh, in which he will be playing the lead role. Junior Bachchan is also awaiting the release of `The Big Bull`, which is being produced by Ajay Devgn. The film marks the duo`s reunion after seven years since they last collaborated in Rohit Shetty`s `Bol Bachchan.`It is being helmed by Kookie Gulati and as per media reports, the feature will star Ileana D`Cruz. <p>Bollywood's yesteryear actor-singer Bhagwan Dada's song 'Qismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram Kabhi Garam' forms the theme of Anurag Basu's lyrical, poetic anthology 'Ludo'. A story of chaos, of finding love, of finding happiness as life takes its unpredictable course much like a game of dice, 'Ludo' warms you up with its stunning frames, heartwarming performances and its little details.</p>

<p>At the core of the story is Sattu Bhai, a gangster (Pankaj Tripathi) who also serves as the common thread in the four stories. There's a leaked sex tape that an estranged couple must take care of, a desperate wife takes the help of her childhood friend and admirer to get her husband out of the jail who has been wrongly implicated, two uncanny people- united by circumstances and fate are on the run with two big bags full of cash and an ex henchman finds himself in the company of a six-year-old who gives him life lessons that help him find closure.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Much like his previous films, Basu makes 'Ludo' a visually rich experience. Each of the scenes is framed stunningly, with the filmmaker serving as the cinematographer as well as the writer of the film. As a result, Basu implements exactly how he may have envisioned each of the scenes. The characters and their story graph are based on the colours of a Ludo board game. Green is for envy, red is for anger, blue is used for bullying and yellow for happiness. He demarcates the characters and their storyline accordingly- thereby making the film look like a rich palette of colours. Of course, when it comes to Basu, he pays dollops of tribute to filmmakers from the world over. In 'Ludo' there were scenes that looked like an ode to Wong Kar Wai's 'In The Mood For Love' and some of the chase sequences were similar to Charlie Chaplin's style and some to Jacky Chan's. And while many would argue that Basu unnecessary lifts ideas, I feel his tributes are very well incorporated into the plot of a film.&nbsp;</p>

It's always a delight to watch Tripathi who doesn't just deliver the best lines but also emotes through his eyes and expressions. There's, of course, Rajkummar Rao who, once again proves that given a good script, he can prove his mettle at comedy. Rao plays a lovelorn Aaloo, who willingly lets hid childhood crush Pinky (Sana Fatima Sheikh) govern his life. He can do anything for her- give up his life savings, rescue her husband from the jail and even get rid of a dead body. Channelising his inner Mithun, Rao's Aalu is a delight to watch - particularly because of how the actor plays him effortlessly.&nbsp;</p>

Bachchan plays Bittu- a once dreaded criminal - who now after serving 6 years jail term- pines for his daughter and estranged wife ( Asha Negi). Circumstances lead him to the Inayat's character- a seven-year-old who is too smart for her age and who herself pines for the attention of her busy parents. Some of the most heartwarming scenes of the film feature these two. The child is talkative while the man is brooding and the two form an uncanny bond of friendship.&nbsp;</p>

One knows how to manipulate the man who has loved her all her life (Sheikh), one openly seeks a rich man to settle down with as a trophy wife (Sanya Malhotra), one is calculative, smart and foresees a better future with a man she has just met(Pearle Maaney). The women in 'Ludo' may not always be speaking out- but are strong individuals who know what they want in life and how to get it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since it is an anthology, the filmmaker takes leisurely time to establish each of the plots. A lot is happening on screen and the filmmaker gives a detailed introduction of each track. As a result, the film appears to be long. With multiple chase sequence and several intertwining of plots, it can become a task to keep track of each of the stories. It is certainly a bit chaotic but the flaw is salvaged because of the detailed screenplay which most often leaves you smiling.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Anurag Basu and Pritam have in the last decade made some memorable music together. 'Ludo' does not have as many songs as Basu's last screen outing 'Jagga Jasoos' but even then they are beautiful and leave the last impression. If 'Aabaad Barbaad' is about unrequited love, in 'Meri Tum Ho' love takes ownership. The songs are so picturesque - you want to keep watching them over and over again.</p>

Like how Rohit Saraf and Pearle Maaney fall in love or how Sanya Malhotra goes on a wild goose chase looking for a missing camera with Aditya Roy Kapur two days before her wedding.&nbsp;There is chaos almost at all times, and much like the police in the film, you may be a little frazzled with what's happening on screen. But much like Basu (who also serves as the narrator) himself- you need to sit back and enjoy the chaos on screen. Everyone is chasing something- love, money, happiness - which you may relate to.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Anthologies are always elaborate, 'Ludo' is no different but its actors, the music and its overall message make this one a winner.&nbsp;<br />

This move will bring immense relief to scores of employees across the sector which has been one of the worst hit, through this pandemic."</p>

<p>"BookMyShow recognises that we are in extraordinary times and is mindful of social distancing and sanitisation amongst other factors. The health and safety of all - from cine-goers to cinema partners, production houses and execution agencies - will be of paramount importance and BookMyShow will uphold all SOPs as mandated for our users` safe movie watching experience," the statement added.</p>

In fact, we had been proposing a 50 per cent capacity. It is in keeping up with the norm of every other industry. Most of the countries are also following the same norm. As of now, our software is being modified in accordance with that so that the audience have a seamless experience while booking tickets online," he said.</p>

<p>However, to open up, there is a lot of work to be done.</p>

<p>"The good part is that separate teams handle each property and we also have two weeks, it seems sufficient time for us to prepare. As it is, we have planned for the reopening all this while, so there shouldn`t be a problem. While couple of state governments are yet to give a go ahead on the reopening of theatres, we are likely to open all the major properties in other states in the stipulated time. On the content side, the producers are already having conversations about releasing the films. We have limited time slots, so the content shouldn`t be a problem. In the first few weeks, there may not be an overflow of content but things would resume to normalcy soon," said Sunil.</p>

<p>A month after recovering from coronavirus, Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan took to Instagram on Friday to urge fans to wear a mask. The actor advised his followers not to "take this virus lightly".</p>
