Australia's Alex De Minaur saved three match points on his way to a battling 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (7/3) victory over Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to clinch the ATP Tour DC Open crown on Sunday. Seventh seed De Minaur looked to be heading for defeat against his 12th-seeded Spanish opponent after trailing 5-2 in the deciding set in Washington. But Davidovich Fokina -- chasing the first ATP title of his career after losing in three previous final appearances -- failed to capitalise on his hefty lead. The Spaniard appeared to tighten when serving for the match at 5-3 up to allow De Minaur to claw it back to 5-4. But Davidovich Fokina responded to that missed opportunity by then earning three match points on De Minaur's serve in the next game. Yet once again, the Spaniard was unable to take advantage and De Minaur survived to hold serve and level the match at 5-5. The next two games went on serve to set up the tie break and De Minaur was quickly in control, sealing victory on the first of three match points with an ace, to settle a 3hr 2mins slugfest. De Minaur said he had never doubted his ability to turn around the final. "I spoke to Jonas today. We've been racing each other for five years now and we have raised each other to a higher level," he said. Despite the rain, tens of thousands of spectators packed Montmartre to follow Pogacar's progress through the narrow streets of the popular tourist spot. He played to the delighted crowds by racing to the head of the peloton near the Moulin Rouge cabaret at the foot of the climb before Van Aert produced a well-timed attack to drop Pogacar and charge to the finish line on the Champs-Elysees avenue. Pogacar was fourth on the day but after wins in 2020, 2021 and 2024, he again proved untouchable in the world's greatest bike race. Vingegaard, the champion in 2022 and 2023, suffered two shocking off-days and ended second overall, 4min 24sec adrift. "I had some of my worst days here and some of the best," he said after the race, adding he would turn his attention to the Tour of Spain. "I'll have a week off now, and then start training for the Vuelta," he said. In the first week, he struck on rolling runs in the north and west at Rouen and the Mur de Bretagne. He then turned the screw on the slopes of the Pyrenees in week two with his rivals as good as vanquished. Vingegaard suffered on the stage-five time trial, and again in the second week at the Hautacam mountain, leaving the Dane in shock as his form abandoned him. Not all was well between India and England after the Manchester Test ended in a stalemate on Sunday (July 27), leaving hosts leading the series 2-1 with one match remaining. It was Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja who took the centre stage when the former had offered a handshake to end the match in a draw. India’s refusal to shake hands and continue playing was justified as Jadeja and Washington Sundar both approached their tons in the Manchester Test.

Stokes-Jadeja take centre stage
With Jadeja unbeaten on 89 and Sundar on 80, Stokes offered a handshake (offer for a draw), but the Indian batters were clear with their intent and wanted to score their respective tons. After the refusal, Stokes gave the ball to part-time bowlers Joe Root and Harry Brook as they bowled the consequent five overs, helping the Indian duo to reach their respective tons at Old Trafford. Immediately after the hundreds, Indian batters decided to accept the offer for a draw, but things did not go well. After the draw was accepted, English players approached Indian batters and offered a handshake, but Stokes did not shake hands with Jadeja initially. He went to Washington Sundar and returned before Jadeja offered a word to the English captain. They would later shake hands after a heated conversation in the middle, but with no eye contact. Interestingly, the matter did not escalate and at the time of writing was not reported to the match referee. ALSO READ | IND vs ENG 2025: Bumrah unlocks unwanted record in Manchester as England punish India on day 4
What happened on Day 5 of the Manchester Test?
Trailing by 237 runs at the start of Day 5, India lost KL Rahul in the first session on 90 before Shubman Gill fell for 103. Rahul was unfortunate to miss out on a ton, but Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja helped India reach 425/4 before the match was called off for a draw. England beat Spain 3-1 on penalties to clinch the Women's Euro 2025 and defend their title after Sunday's final had finished 1-1 at the end of extra time. Chloe Kelly scored the decisive kick in a shoot-out which saw three Spain players, including reigning Ballon d'Or Aitana Bonmati, all missing from the spot. Mariona Caldentey had earlier gave Spain the lead-- who beat England 1-0 in the 2023 Women's World Cup final -- into the lead at St Jakob-Park in Basel, but Alessia Russo equalised early in the second half. It seemed that Spain would be repeating their win against England in Sydney two years earlier as they controlled the game at Basel's St Jakob-Park and were ahead by Mariona Caldentey's first-half header.England, however, did not panic as they had already been behind against Sweden in the quarter-finals and Italy in the semis before they managed to emerge victorious. Sarina Wiegman's England are thus back-to-back European champions, their victory here three years on from when they beat Germany in extra time at Wembley to lift a first women's major trophy. Beating Spain here makes up for the pain of losing that World Cup final in 2023, and the win also secures Wiegman's position as one of the great coaches. She has now won three consecutive European Championships, having led her native Netherlands to victory in 2017 before doing the same with England three years ago. Spain, meanwhile, fell short in their quest to add a maiden European Championship title to the World Cup they won in Australia. Spain controlled the possession as would be expected, but eventually paid the price for failing to put the match to bed against an England team who never know when they are beaten. Wiegman's side had been 2-0 behind against Sweden in the quarter-finals before scoring twice to take the match into extra time as they went on to win on penalties. Then came Michelle Agyemang's 96th-minute equaliser robbed Italy in the semi-final in Geneva, when Kelly scored the winner in extra time.England had actually not played all that well for much of their march to the final, but it did not matter.Wiegman had gambled on the fitness of Lauren James and come out on top, but not quite as she intended -- having limped off with an ankle injury against Italy, the Chelsea winger did not make it to half-time and was substituted by Kelly. By then Spain were already ahead, scoring when Bonmati and Athenea del Castillo played each other to tee up Ona Battle and her cross from the right was nodded in by Caldentey. Montse Tome's Spain, who had seven players from Barcelona in their starting team, had already dominated prior to that and it seemed England's best chance was that their opponents would be complacent. The pick of that was when the game remained goalless, when Spain goalkeeper Cata Coll made a sloppy short pass to Laia Aleixandri in her own goal area. Lauren Hemp was quick to pounce on the chance but Coll was well alert to cover. Even at 1-0, though, it seemed like England were very much in the match, and they pounced when the opportunity arose in the 57th minute when Kelly crossed from the left for her Arsenal teammate Russo to equalise. Womens Euro 2025 Final Hannah Hamptons heroics help Lionesses beat Spain on penalties defend title

It seemed that Spain would be repeating their win against England in Sydney two years earlier as they controlled the game at Basel's St Jakob-Park and were ahead by Mariona Caldentey's first-half header. England, however, did not panic as they had already been behind against Sweden in the quarter-finals and Italy in the semis before they managed to emerge victorious. Then came Michelle Agyemang's 96th-minute equaliser robbed Italy in the semi-final in Geneva, when Kelly scored the winner in extra time. England had actually not played all that well for much of their march to the final, but it did not matter. Wiegman had gambled on the fitness of Lauren James and come out on top, but not quite as she intended -- having limped off with an ankle injury against Italy, the Chelsea winger did not make it to half-time and was substituted by Kelly. Ravindra Jadeja notched up his second Test hundred, and Washington Sundar completed his maiden as the pair helped India pull off a draw in the Manchester Test against England, with the five-match Test series still alive. At a time when Jadeja and Washington were approaching their respective tons, a rather tired and frustrated Stokes approached them for a handshake, which in cricketing terms means that he agreed to a draw, wishing for an early finish to his game. That whole episode turned slightly ugly after Jadeja, perhaps rightfully, denied shaking hands with the English captain, indicating that India wished to continue batting, which irked Stokes. Although Stokes did pass on some remarks, the batting pair stood unfazed, completing their respective centuries soon after, and then agreed to wrap up this game. Meanwhile, the Oval will host the fifth and final Test starting next Thursday (Jul 31).

His dismissal, however, brought England back in the game, only for them to surrender to the two bowling all-rounders, who never looked like backing down from the challenge. The ‘handshake’ saga There was, however, a brief moment of unpleasantness and distress between both teams on the field.

Trailing behind by 311 runs, India scored 425 for four in their second innings, winning all sessions since losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan off successive deliveries on the stroke of tea the previous day.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has done his bit to enter the record books during the Manchester Test against England. The ace cricketer has been in brilliant touch with the bat this series, scoring multiple fifties, while playing several handy knocks. Being the most-capped Indian player on the team sheet, Jadeja brought his experience into this series, helping India push for a draw at Old Trafford. Although his wickets column has looked gloomy, there’s no doubt about his batting in the four contested matches thus far. During day five of the ongoing Test, he joined former West Indies great Sir Gary Sobers on two lists. Jadeja was Team India’s highest wicket-taker in the first innings, returning with four to his name. He followed it up with a magnificent half-century in the second innings, with his fellow all-rounder Washington Sundar also completing his. Their partnership (100 and counting) weathered challenging day five batting conditions in Manchester, as the pair played through the second session, with India leading by 11 runs. Also read | Shubman Gill tears record books with Manchester 100 but departs just before lunch on day 5 However, his second-inning knock saw him become only the third all-rounder to score more than 1000 runs and pick up 30-plus wickets in another country. India’s Jadeja is only the third player ever and the first Indian to do so, having completed over 1030 runs (and counting) and 34 Test wickets in the UK. Jadeja also equalled Sobers’ record for hitting the most fifties by a batter batting at number six or lower in a Test series in England. His latest fifty saw him go equal with perhaps the greatest all-rounder of all time (5) on this list. While Sobers has five fifties in eight innings (at that order), Jadeja also has as many in the same number of outings in the UK. Dressed in a sleek athletic kit, with her hair tied back in a neat ponytail and a composed expression that rarely gives away emotion, Shefali Arora looks every bit the focused athlete she is. But what truly stands out isn’t just her appearance—it’s her unwavering gaze. Even while speaking to WION exclusively, her eyes kept darting toward the court where a match was underway. It wasn’t her turn to play, but her mind was clearly still in the game. Currently ranked No. 6 in India in singles as per the DUPR rankings, Shefali is part of the wave of young athletes propelling pickleball into mainstream sporting consciousness in the country. Her journey, however, didn’t begin on a pickleball court—it began with a tennis racquet, long hours of training under her father’s guidance, and over a decade of competitive play. Shefali was participating in fourth leg of the ongoing Picklebay India Tour in Delhi after it witnessed action-packed editions in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Shefali won the final in women’s singles open category along with cash prize of Rs 10000. “I’ve been playing tennis for more than ten years,” she recalls. “My dad has been my coach throughout. Born and brought up in Delhi, Shefali's affair with pickleball started in October 2024, when a fellow tennis player suggested she try her hand at a major tournament being held in the capital. Despite her limited exposure to the sport at the time, she entered the pro category. “It was a big tournament, and I’d barely played the sport before,” she said. “But it was fun. The vibe was different—community-driven and energetic. That experience made me realise this wasn’t just a hobby sport—it had serious potential.”
From curiosity to commitment
Initially, Shefali balanced both tennis and pickleball. But as she played more leagues and interacted with the pickleball community, the shift began to happen naturally. The sport's unique blend of tennis, table tennis, and badminton intrigued her—and her tennis foundation gave her a distinct edge. “The strokes felt familiar, but the pace and space were different. Pickleball is played on a smaller court, so you have to recalibrate power, control, and consistency.” That recalibration didn’t take long. With her background in competitive tennis—including international tournaments—Shefali adapted quickly, rising through India’s pickleball ranks in under a year. With a tennis racquet in hand for most of her formative years, Shefali believes that tennis players do enjoy a natural advantage when transitioning to pickleball. “We’re used to driving from the back of the court with more power. Our muscle memory helps, especially with volleys and positioning.” Still, the transition isn’t seamless. She points out that tennis players often need to unlearn overhitting and learn how to play with “touch” rather than just force—something that can only come with time on court. “The first few weeks are hard. You end up hitting out a lot. But with time, you gain better control over your shots.”
Leaving tennis behind?
When asked whether tennis is still a part of her competitive calendar, Shefali answers with quiet honesty. “I’ve been playing more pickleball recently. Unless there’s a major tennis tournament that I can’t miss, I’m focused on this now.” She knows her tennis rankings will drop as a result, but she’s clear-eyed about her current goals. “If a big tournament comes up and I can enter, I’ll play. But pickleball is where I’m growing right now.”
The future of pickleball in India
Once seen as a casual, post-work hobby, pickleball is now evolving into a serious sport with international circuits, club leagues, and ranking systems. And Shefali is excited to be at the forefront of its growth in India. “A few years ago, I didn’t know this sport existed. But now there are multiple courts across country and it’s expanding to other northern states. Even smaller towns like those in Maharashtra are producing excellent players.” She emphasises the need for grassroots infrastructure, especially in rural and Tier-2 cities. “The one drawback is that it ideally needs a synthetic surface. But people are adapting—even cement courts are being used. Many old tennis courts are converting to pickleball courts because it’s bringing in players and money.” With cricket entering the Olympics and chess also being considered for future inclusion, Shefali believes that pickleball could also be headed for international multisport events like the Asian Games or Commonwealth Games. “There have been talks about it entering the Olympics someday. It started in the US, but now countries across Asia are picking it up fast. The momentum is real.” She’s also had the chance to interact with international players—peers who, like her, are watching India’s rise in the sport with interest. “They believe India has always been strong in athletics. Now, with more exposure, we’re catching up quickly.” One of the most important figures in Shefali’s journey remains her father, who coached her through her entire tennis career and continues to guide her training philosophy. “He’s strict on court, no doubt. He has his rules. But off the court, he’s very open. He let me travel, handle college life on my own, and make mistakes. That experience matters.” The duo share a different dynamic depending on the setting.“We fight on court sometimes—normal coach-player stuff. But off the court, we’re like friends.”
Advice to young players
While Shefali is now fully invested in pickleball, she strongly recommends tennis as the base sport for children looking to pursue racket sports seriously. “Start with tennis. The stroke mechanics, the movements—they build the right muscle memory. Then, if they choose to try pickleball, it’ll be an easier switch.” She sees a long-term future in pickleball—not just for herself, but for the next generation of Indian athletes. Whether or not the sport makes it to the Olympics in the next few years, she’s convinced it’s here to stay. “It’s not just a hobby anymore. It’s a real sport. And India’s just getting started.” Picklebay is India’s first comprehensive pickleball platform, enabling players to discover courts, join tournaments, find playing partners, and be part of a thriving community. Now active across Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, Picklebay is building a digitally connected future for the sport in India. The Picklebay India Tour is a first-of-its-kind effort to create a competitive yet community-driven national circuit for pickleball. The Delhi leg is the latest stop in the ongoing 10-city tour, which has already witnessed tremendous participation and enthusiasm in its first three editions.

But we played the wrong strokes and targeted Aaron too much. That cost us,” he said after the match. They beat another Malaysian pair, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi, in a tight quarterfinal clash (21-18, 21-14) to get here. This was also their fourth Super 1000 semifinal of the year, having made the last four at the India Open, Singapore Open, and Malaysia Open. Satwik, reflecting on the season, said it hasn’t been smooth. “After the Olympics, there were a lot of changes. I was injured, changed trainers and had personal issues. Every time we pick up momentum, something breaks it. But we’re doing all the right things. We just need to play more consistently and stay fit.” The pair has sent entries for the Macau Open (Super 300), but the bigger target is the World Championships in Paris from August 25 to 31.

The Indian duo lost in straight games to Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou, Jiangsu, China.

From Murali Muralidaran to Wasim Akram, the world of cricket has been blessed with some great bowlers over the last few decades. Renowned for their excellent bowling display, these bowlers broke records left, right and centre. And one of the records includes the most five-fors in the ODI format, as we take a look at the list of bowlers to top the milestone.
1) Waqar Younis
Former Pakistan right-arm pacer Waqar Younis, known for his sheer pace in the 90s, leads the tally with the most five-wicket hauls (13) in ODI cricket. Interestingly, Younis also once picked five wicket hauls in three matches on the trot back in 1990.
2) Muthiah Muralidaran
Sri Lankan legendary leg-spinner Muthiah Muralidaran, who was a beast in Test cricket with 800 wickets, was equally effective in the ODI format. Murali scalped 534 wickets with 10 five-wicket hauls in 350 outings. Along with most wickets in Test cricket, Muralidharan also holds the record for leading the ODI wicket tally with 534 wickets. Also read | IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill breaks 9-year-old Virat Kohli record, now chases Gavaskar’s historic Test feat
3) Mitchell Starc
The only left-handed pacer on this list, Mitchell Starc, has nine five-wicket hauls and counting in ODI cricket. Starc is the only active player on this list, with a total of 244 ODI wickets in 127 games so far. Interestingly, Starc bagged the 'Player of the Tournament' award back in the 2015 ODI World Cup, which Australia won against New Zealand. Starc's pace bowling in the 2015 World Cup, which included 22 wickets in eight innings with an average of 10.18, proved to be crucial in Australia's win.
4) Brett Lee
In 221 matches, Brett Lee picked up five wickets in a match on nine occasions. With 380 wickets, Lee was the fastest bowler to reach 300 and 350 wickets in 50-over cricket, respectively. Notably, Brett Lee has the second most wickets in ODIs for Australia, missing the top spot to Glenn McGrath by two wickets.
5) Shahid Afridi
Fondly known as 'Boom Boom Afridi', Shahid scalped nine five-wicket hauls in ODI cricket history, the second most by a Pakistan cricketer. Afridi was a true all-rounder with contributions in all three departments of the game (bat, bowl and field). In his stellar 19-year career, Afridi was one of the five Pakistani players to cross 1000 runs, pick up 50 wickets and grab 50 catches in ODIs. He was also the youngest (16 years 217 days) to score an ODI century. Back in 1996, he scored 104 in 52 balls against Sri Lanka in Nairobi, Kenya.

Shubman Gill cannot stop scoring runs, but it hasn’t helped India much on this tour. The newly-appointed Indian Test skipper tore record books with his fourth hundred in as many games against England this time, equalling Sunil Gavaskar and Sir Donald Bradman’s tally of most centuries by a captain in a Test series. In a massive development surrounding the India vs Pakistan game in the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the complete schedule. The UAE will host the eight-team tournament in September (9 to 28). Outside of ACC’s five full members, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, the remaining three teams are the hosts (UAE), Hong Kong and Oman, with all divided into two groups; India and Pakistan are drawn in one, Group A, alongside UAE and Oman, while the remaining four in Group B. It, however, contradicts the very notion behind India's boycott of Pakistan on all fronts following the attack on India’s Kashmir by Pakistani-based terrorists (in April), which further led to escalating cross-border action a fortnight later.
Here is the complete schedule of the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup –

September 9: Afghanistan vs Hong Kong

September 10: India vs UAE

September 11: Bangladesh vs Hong Kong

September 12: Pakistan vs Oman

September 13: Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka

September 14: India vs Pakistan

September 15: UAE vs Oman

September 15: Sri Lanka vs Hong Kong

September 16: Bangladesh vs Afghanistan

September 17: Pakistan vs UAE

September 18: Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan

September 19: India vs Oman

Super 4 stage:

September 20: B1 vs B2

September 21: A1 vs A2

September 23: A2 vs B1

September 24: A1 vs B2

September 25: A2 vs B2

September 26: A1 vs B1

FINAL: September 28

Match-fixing is the darkest chapter in any sport and it raises serious questions about the honesty and credibility of the players involved. In India, cricket is treated like a religion, where fans worship their favorite cricketers. Every Indian cricket fan is emotionally attached to the sport, serving as a heartbeat for many fans. Unfortunately, there have been numerous incidents where Indian cricketers have faced allegations of match-fixing. These scandals have shocked the entire world, leaving the fans with a sense of doubt towards their beloved heroes. Let's take a look at the top five scandals in Indian cricket history.
1. Mohammed Azharuddin
Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin was banned for life by the BCCI in 2000 for his alleged involvement in match-fixing during South Africa's tour of India in 2000. He was accused of introducing South African captain Hansie Cronje to bookies and reportedly confessed to fixing three ODIs against South Africa in Rajkot (1996), during the Pepsi Cup in Sri Lanka (1997), and in Pakistan (1999), according to a report by ESPNCricinfo.
