Gervonta Davis knocked out challenger Frank 'The Ghost' Martin in eighth round to retain his WBA lightweight world champion title. Davis, popularly referred as Tank, now has professional record of 30-0 with 28 KOs in them.

Davis had Martin on the ropes in the eighth round and landed a vicious uppercut before knocking him out with a powerful left hook. Martin was flat on the canvas after the punch as the referee started a countdown which ended in Davis busting The Ghost. Watch the knock out punch below:

"I knew that he was going to tire down," Davis said after the fight. "That's what I was doing. Stand there, be a target so he could tire himself out, and once he tired himself out, I started picking him apart."

Martin, however, said that it was him being comfortable after landing some blows in the earlier rounds that led to his knock out.

"I felt like in the beginning I was in control, then got a little too comfortable," Martin said. "I got comfortable chilling on the ropes, trying to find that bigger shot. It wasn't presenting itself, I stopped doing my movement. Once I stopped doing my movement, he was able to land more shots."

The bout had started with Davis entering the ring on 'Ghostbusters' theme song as a 'cheeky' response to Martin's nick name.

Martin led in first three rounds while the next two rounds were even-steven. The bout changed significantly in the next two rounds as Davis took on Martin and landed multiple blows.

The winner, who was fighting for the first time in 14 months, referred his jail time as a contributor in his growth. The boxer was sentenced 90 days in house arrest but was later taken into custody for violating the terms of parole in hit-and-run case dating back to 2020.

"It made me a better person by patience and things like that," Davis said.

"Stuff happens in life where you've got to go through it and not try to get it around it. It made me a better person, it made me a better father, it made me a better everything. I want to be a better athlete as I continue to build and be great in my career," he added.
