NFL player Billy Price, former first-round pick in 2018 draft, has announced his retirement on Saturday (May 25) at the age of 29 due to risk of internal bleeding. Price had undergone a surgery for pulmonary embolism but the doctors advised to play as the blood thinner created risk of bleeding. Price had to undergo an emergency surgery to remove a saddle clot, which was entering his both lungs.

Price announced his decision on social media platform Instagram with picture of a quote which read: "In the blink of an eye it could all be taken away."

The caption of the post read: "In the blink of an eye, everything can be taken away. On April 24th I had emergency pulmonary embolism surgery to remove a saddle clot that was entering both of my lungs. As a healthy 29 year old, an unprovoked pulmonary embolism with no further medical explanation is terrifying. I am truly thankful to be alive today. Unfortunately, I will be retiring from the NFL as the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners creates tremendous risk."

"I am truly thankful for the opportunity to have played in some of the greatest atmospheres around the world. I am thankful to have trained and played alongside men who will continue to make Pro Bowls, All Pro Rosters and Hall of Fame recognitions."

Price is one of the rare first-round picks for the position he played at. He was selected 21st overall as a center by the Cincinnati Bengals - a franchise close to his alma mater Ohio State. He had played offensive guard for the first three years before becoming the center in the senior year and won the national championship the same year - 2014.

Price played first three years with the Bengals before moving to New York Giants in 2021-22 and then to Arizona Cardinals for 2022-23 season.
