Michael Slater arrested over 19 charges related to assault and stalking
Former Australia opener Michael Slater is remanded in police custody over several charges related to domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. The cricketer-turned-commentator faces 19 charges relating to alleged offences committed between December 5, 2023 and April 12, 2024.
Slater's case was also mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday (April 15).
Meanwhile, the police confirmed the arrest of the 54-year-old broadcaster from his Sunshine Coast address on Friday over several reported alleged domestic violence incidents. His charges included domestic violence, unlawful stalking and intimidation, breaking into house with intent at night, common assault, body shaming and choking or suffocation.
Slater was further charged with breaching bail and ten counts of domestic violence order.
The ex-stylish opener will remain in police custody with his case due to be mentioned in the same court on Thursday.
Slater made his international debut against England during the 1993 Ashes. In a career spanning around a decade, Slater wore the Baggy Green 74 times, scoring 5312 runs at an average of 42.83, including 14 hundreds. Slater also played 42 ODIs for Australia.

Retiring in 2004, Slater took up the commentator’s job, making a name for himself in the commentary box since.
A repeatoffender
It’s not the first time that Slater has been remanded in police custody. The former right-handed opener, in March last year, was arrested over an altercation with police at Noosa Heads unit complex.
While he was arrested forassault, he later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of obstructing police.
As per the Magistrates court, the police went to his unit amid concerns for his welfare just before March 31st midnight. Upon arriving at his complex, Slater was found in a drunken state and was being aggressive and refusing to let the officers in.
Police prosecutor, Senior Constable David Hoffmann, said Slater verbally abused everyone and needed to be restrained. However, during his arrest, Slater struggled with the officers, causing one to sustain a cut to his finger from the handcuffs.
After being presented in front of the judge, Slater said he lost everything, including his job.
"Unfortunately, having lived a high-profile life at the top of my game, I've dropped the ball after my marriage broke up, and I'm struggling with not living with my three beautiful kids,” Slater admitted.
