Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who is bidding to win at home British Grand Prix for a record sixth time, reacted on this growing fan following on the social media.

The Briton has around 5.54 million followers on Twitter and has over 11 million followers on Instagram, currently.

"I am grateful for the ones the people that do support me and it's really heartwarming to see the support that I have every year and to see that grow," said Hamilton.

Hamilton is aiming to bounce back from a rare weekend of disappointment by winning his home British GP for a record sixth time this weekend. At Austrian GP, he had finished fifth two weeks ago.

"You know, I look at my social media every week and I don't understand why it's grown the way it is," said Hamilton.

"Why in one day….I woke up this morning and overnight 5,000 people followed me. I'm like why did they follow me, 5,000 people decided to follow me last night," he added.

If he wins the British GP, Hamilton will move clear of fellow Briton Jim Clark and Frenchman Alain Prost, with whom he shares the current record of five wins.
