Jamal Khashoggi's fiancee pleads Premier League to block Saudi takeover

Late journalist Jamal Khashoggi's fiancee, Hatice Cengiz has asked England's top-flight league, the Premier League to block the takeover of Newcastle United by its overseas TV partner beIN Sports. Newcastle United are on the verge of a £300m-plus takeover by Saudi-backed consortium PCP Capitals, involving Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Public Investment Fund will be an important part of the deal that consists o three parties. The deal will include Saudi backed PCP Capital Partners, venture capital and private equity company run by British businesswoman Amanda Staveley, and real estate firm Reuben Brothers, which wants to buy the club from English businessman Mike Ashley.
Cengiz has criticized Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's move of taking over the premier league as a "PR tool" for distracting people's attention from the country's poor human rights records. Cengiz has held the Saudi government accountable for her fiance Jamal Khashoggi's murder.
She said: "UK authorities and the Premier League (sic) should not allow someone like Mohamed Bin Salman (sic), who has yet to face any accountability for the murder of my late fiancé, Jamal Khashoggi, to be so involved in sports in the UK,"
"Doing otherwise will greatly stain the reputation of the Premier League and the UK. Mohamed Bin Salman is strategically using international sports to repair his badly damaged reputation after the murder of Jamal."

In December 2019, the Saudi government sentenced five people to death after holding them guilty for Khashoggi's murder in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
