Delhi Capitals have pulled clear of the bottom place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 standings after a convincing away win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday (April 12). The win for DC, only their second of the season was manufactured by brilliant batting knocks of Jake Fraser-McGurk (55) and Rishabh Pant (41) as they laid the foundation for the six-wicket win for the visitors. The win also sees RCB now occupy the bottom spot while DC look to build momentum in the IPL 2024 playoff race.
DC pull clear of bottom spot
Needing 168 runs to win, DC did not have the best start after losing David Warner (8) in the powerplay of their innings. However, Prithvi Shaw (32) and Fraser-McGurk made sure of no more hesitation in the chase to steady the innings. However, it was Fraser-McGurk’s partnership with Pant that helped deliver the knockoutblow to LSG. They stitched a partnership of 77 runs for the third wicket which helped DC register their second win of the IPL 2024. Tristan Stubbs (15) and Shai Hope (11) would then help the side get over the line in Lucknow and win by six wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Batting first, LSG made a decent start to their innings as skipper KL Rahul (39) and Quinton de Kock (19) got the home side going. However, it was after De Kock’s dismissal that things went horribly wrong for LSG as they were reduced to 94/7 with quick fall of wickets. Marcus Stoinis (8), Devdutt Padikkal (3) and Nicholas Pooran (0) all disappointed with the bat leaving LSG in sixes and sevens.
Ayush Badoni (unbeaten 55) and Arshad Khan (20) would then lay the foundation for a comeback in the contest as LSG put 167/7 on the board in their 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for DC having ended with figures of 20/3 while Khaleel Ahmed ended with 41/2 in his four overs.
LSG next take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday as they attempt to get back to winning ways. On the other hand, DC face Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.
