IND vs AUS, 3rd Test: Mayank Agarwal shines on debut, India are 215/2 at stumps on Day 1

Mayank Agarwal made an early mark in Test cricket as he notched up 76 runs on debut against Australia on day one of the ongoing the Boxing Day Test on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara established 92-run stand to take India's scorecard to 215 at the loss of two wickets at stumps.

While Pujara slammed his 21st Test half-century, Kohli is three runs short to reach the 50-digit mark. The two will resume the game on Day 2.

Pujara, who will resume the game at 68 tomorrow, played a patient inning to keep the team's momentum going after India lost debutant Mayank Agarwal, who scored crucial 76 runs.

Amid the opening combination chaos, Mayank's 161-ball inning provided India with a steady start on day one.

It was Australian pacer Pat Cummins who dismissed both the openers - Mayank and Hanuman Vihari. Spinner Nathan Lyon was the costliest bowler of the day as he gave away 59 runs in his 21 overs.

Vihari's wicket was the first blood which Australian drew in the initial hours of the Boxing Day Test.

Mayank, who found a perfect partner in Chesteshwar Pujara, was composed throughout his inning and hit some shots which highlight talent the young batsman possess.
To reach his maiden fifty, the opener came down the track and drilled it back past the non-striker for a four.

Earlier, Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat in the third Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne on Wednesday.
