From Gautam Gambhir to Virender Sehwag, cricket fraternity condoled the sudden demise of Congress veteran Sheila Dikshit, who passed away on Saturday following a cardiac arrest. The final rites of the former Chief Minister of Delhi will take place on Sunday.
Dikshit was the longest-serving chief minister of Delhi, having served in office for 15 years from 1998.
East Delhi MP and former Indian cricketer Gambhir took to Twitter to express grief. He wrote, "I'm deeply saddened to hear about the untimely death of Sheila Dixitji. A fierce champion of the people, she dedicated her life to better Delhi. A huge loss for the capital."
"My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friend," the cricketer-turned-politician added.
As per a statement issued by Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Dikshit was admitted on Saturday morning in a critical condition.
"Sheila Dikshit was managed well by a team of doctors. At 3:15 pm she again suffered a cardiac arrest. She was put on ventilator and at 3:55 pm she passed away peacefully," Dr Ashok Seth, Director of Escorts Fortis, New Delhi told media.
Former Indian batsman Sehwag tweeted, "Sad to hear about the passing away of #SheilaDixit ji."
"Heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones," added Sehwag, who hails from Delhi.
