Indian archery team wins gold after 14 years in World Cup.
India men's archery team of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav created history on Sunday (Apr 28) by beating reigning Olympic champions South Korea to win a World Cup gold medal. The last time India won a gold in Archery World Cup was back in 2010.
On Sunday, India men's team showed great composure against the mighty Koreans and won the battle 5-1 (57-57, 57-55, 55-53) to secure the World Cup Stage 1 gold, currently being played in Shanghai, China. Indian team had their task cut out for them against a team which included Tokyo Olympics gold medal winners Kim Woojin and Kim Je Deok.

Indian archers, nonetheless, showed great intent byshooting three 10s including two Xs (closer to centre) and three 9s to match the Koreans in the opening set. The Indians won the second set 57-55 and took a 3-1 lead as the rivals slipped and shot in two arrows in 8-ring.
In the final set, the pressure became too much for the Olympic winners to handle as they managed just 53 points in six attempts while the Indian trio shot 55, effectively winning the gold by 5-1 scoreline. Have a look at the video below:

Speaking on the victory, former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Rahul Banerjee, who was part of India's World Cup medal win in 2010, said: “The nerves always kick in when Korea is in the final. But now, no one can doubt our ability to defeat them. They have been showing perfect rhythm right from the qualifying round and it’s definitely one of the biggest wins in archery. They will now have to hold on to this momentum till Paris"
The victory became source of inspiration for India's mixed team of Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj who beat Mexico by 6-0 to win the Bronze medal.
