5 Sixes in one over! England’s Jos Buttler hammers USA’s Harmeet Singh in record run chase at T20 WC – WATCH

Jos Buttler is easily the best T20 batter for a reason. The veteran batter has plenty of records to boast, adding another one to his tally during the USA game in Super 8s of the T20 World Cup the other night. Chasing a moderate 116, Buttler went berserk, whacking an unbeaten 83 off 38 balls, including eight massive sixes. That inning included an over of USA off-spinner Harmeet Singh, who conceded 32 runs – second most in T20Is, with Buttler hitting him for five sixes in that over.

The right-hander smashed the slow left-armer to all parts of the ground, becoming only the second batter after India’s Yuvraj Singh to hit five sixes in an over in T20Is. Notably, Yuvraj hit six sixes in an over against England’s Stuart Broad during the inaugural edition.

Meanwhile, Buttler was on song against the tournament debutants, the USA, with Phil Salt playing a handy knock to ensure England won the match within the asked period to qualify for the semis. They completed the run chase inside ten overs, finishing as the group leaders, something Buttler always wanted.

"Yeah, it was, absolutely," Buttler replied when asked if topping the group was their ultimate aim.

"You've got to earn the right to start with, to try and get in, and then once we got through a few overs, we were really trying to target the [short] side with the wind. We paid the USA a lot of respect, but when we came here, we talked a lot about our intensity. If we could bring that on the field, we thought we'd be too good,” he continued.

Although the defending champions struggled throughout the tournament, with their draw against Scotland, loss to Australia (in the Group Stage) and narrow defeat to South Africa in the Super 8s, they stood up when the chips were down, proving why they deserve to play the semis.

Buttler praises hat-trick taker Jordan

Chris Jordan created history in Barbados, his birthplace, by picking a hat-trick and becoming the first English men’s player to do so in T20Is. He picked four wickets in total, all coming in the 19th over.

“We wanted to bring CJ back in to add a little bit of depth to the batting line-up as well, with his all-round capabilities, and we know what he's capable of with the ball. He executed fantastically well, and a World Cup hat-trick is a great effort,” Buttler said of Jordan.

Meanwhile, should India qualify for the semis, they will take on England in the second semifinal in Guyana on June 27.
