&ldquo;We do not support terrorism in any form, and locals should not be a target for terrorists, and we have no doubt about it," he said.
&ldquo;However, if local forces are targeting the Indian government, it becomes easy to target Pakistan," Asif asserted.
Another statement by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, devoid of any condemnation, said, "We are concerned about the loss of tourists&rsquo; lives in an attack in the Anantnag district [propaganda terminology]. We extend our condolences to the near ones of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery".

Kalathiya, an employee of a prominent nationalised bank, was on vacation in Kashmir with his wife, Sheetal and their children, Niti and Naksh. He was working in the bank's insurance department at the Kandivli branch in Mumbai, a post he'd held for a year, having previously been stationed in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
He was to celebrate his birthday on April 23, news agencies reported, citing sources.
"Kalathiya's cousin told us that he shifted to Mumbai four years ago due to job transfer. He had gone to Pahalgam with his wife and two children. His wife and children are safe," Surat disaster management department's revenue officer Sajid Merujay said.
Apart from Kalathiya, Yatish Parmar and his son Smit Parmar from Gujarat's Bhavnagar were among the 26 persons killed in the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday, as per officials.
"Three persons from Gujarat -- two from Bhavnagar and one from Surat -- were killed in the attack, while two were injured. The victim hailing from Surat lived in Mumbai. We are in touch with the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir government to bring back the bodies. We have also started efforts to bring back other tourists who survived the attack," state Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said.

One of the victims who was brutally shot dead in the Pahalgam terror attack was Shubham Dwivedi from Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur.
Dwivedi got married in February and was on a short vacation in Kashmir with his wife.
His brother said that the terrorist began firing after asking the names of the individuals.

He said that his sister-in-law called and told him that Dwivedi was hit in the head and that the body of the deceased would be released after 2-3 days after completing all the procedures.
"Shubham Bhaiya got married on February 12 this year. He was in Pahalgam with his wife. My sister-in-law called my uncle and told him that Shubham was shot in the head. It is also being said that the firing started after asking for the names of the individuals... We have received information that the body will be released after 2-3 days after completing all the procedures..." he said.

Alert troops intercepted and engaged the infiltrators in a firefight along the Loc, the army said.
"The operation is in progress," it added.

Pahalgam terrorist attack: Trump offered America's 'full support' to India in call with PM Modi

A deadly terror attack at the popular tourist area of Pahalgam in South Kashmir on Tuesday (April 22) left multiple people dead and at least 20 others injured, officials confirmed. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Srinagar in the evening and was received by CM Omar Abdullah and senior officials at the airport. Shah was holding meeting with LG Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah and other high-level officials following Pahalgam terrorist attack.
<h2 data-start="279" data-end="297">What happened?</h2>
According to a senior police officer, a group of two to three terrorists opened fire on a group of unarmed, innocent tourists at Baisaran, a scenic off-road meadow in Pahalgam. The injured were quickly taken to hospital, with several said to be in critical condition.
This is the first such attack targeting tourists in 2025. The last time militants targeted tourists was in May last year, also in Pahalgam, when two people were wounded.
<h2 data-start="740" data-end="766">Reactions from leaders</h2>
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the assault as unprecedented in recent times. &ldquo;Needless to say, this attack is much larger than anything we&rsquo;ve seen directed at civilians in recent years,&rdquo; he said. He added that the final death toll was still being confirmed and urged patience as official information is gathered.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack strongly, vowing that those responsible for the &ldquo;heinous act will be brought to justice.&rdquo; He also said that their &ldquo;evil agenda will never succeed.&rdquo;
Home Minister Amit Shah echoed the prime minister's sentiments, stating that the attackers &ldquo;won&rsquo;t be spared.&rdquo; He confirmed that one person had died and around 20 others were injured in the incident, including tourists. Shah is expected to travel to Srinagar for an urgent security meeting after speaking with Prime Minister Modi over the phone.

A deadly terror attack at the popular tourist area of Pahalgam in South Kashmir on Tuesday (April 22) left multiple people dead and at least 20 others injured, officials confirmed. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Srinagar in the evening and was received by CM Omar Abdullah and senior officials at the airport. Shah was holding meeting with LG Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah and other high-level officials following Pahalgam terrorist attack. What happened? According to a senior police officer, a group of two to three terrorists opened fire on a group of unarmed, innocent tourists at Baisaran, a scenic off-road meadow in Pahalgam. The injured were quickly taken to hospital, with several said to be in critical condition. This is the first such attack targeting tourists in 2025. The last time militants targeted tourists was in May last year, also in Pahalgam, when two people were wounded. Reactions from leaders Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the assault as unprecedented in recent times. “Needless to say, this attack is much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years,” he said. He added that the final death toll was still being confirmed and urged patience as official information is gathered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack strongly, vowing that those responsible for the “heinous act will be brought to justice.” He also said that their “evil agenda will never succeed.” Home Minister Amit Shah echoed the prime minister's sentiments, stating that the attackers “won’t be spared.” He confirmed that one person had died and around 20 others were injured in the incident, including tourists. <h2>PM Modi vows to bring justice</h2>
PM Modi condemned the attack on tourists and vowerd that those behind the heinous act would be brought to justice.&nbsp;
"They (terrorists) will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger," PM Modi said in a post on X.&nbsp;
He also conveyed his condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the terror attack.&nbsp;
The tourists said that the attackers seemed to be targeting Hindu tourists. &ldquo;Three to four people attacked us. I told them &ndash; kill me too, you&rsquo;ve already killed my husband. One of them said, &lsquo;I won&rsquo;t kill you. Go tell this to Modi&rsquo;,&rdquo; one of the tourists recounted.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers came out of the thick pine forests surrounding the area and started shooting at civilians, triggering chaos and panic.

US President Donald Trump expressed condolences, saying that the US stands strong with India against terrorism.
"We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all," he said in a post on X.&nbsp;
Trump is also scheduled to talk to PM Modi regarding the attack in J&amp;K, White House press secretary said.&nbsp;
Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his condolences in a statement and said that "this brutal crime has no justification whatsoever."
"Kindly accept the sincere condolences over the tragic consequences of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, whose victims were civilians &mdash; citizens of various countries. We expect that its organisers and perpetrators will face deserved punishment. I would like to reiterate our commitment to further increasing cooperation with Indian partners in fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," he said.&nbsp;
Ukraine has also issued a statement and said that it is deeply concerned over the attack on tourists at Pahalgam, J&amp;K. "We endure the loss of life from terrorism daily and firmly condemn terrorism in all its forms. When innocent people are murdered, it brings unbearable pain. The perpetrators should be held accountable," it said.

<h2>Deadliest attack since Pulwama</h2>
The deadly incident took place when terrorists opened fire near the scenic Baisaran meadow, around six kilometres from Pahalgam town. The attack resulted in at least 27 deaths, including two foreign nationals and two locals, making it the most severe strike in the Valley since Pulwama in 2019.
The attack came at a time when the tourist season in the region was gaining momentum and coincided with a visit by US Vice President J D Vance to India.
