Hours after Supreme Court ruled out an SIT probe intocircumstances surrounding special CBI judge BH Loya's death in 2014, the Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted the truth has its own way of catching up with people like Amit Shah.

''Indians are deeply intelligent. Most Indians, including those in the BJP, instinctively understand the truth about Mr Amit Shah. The truth has its own way of catching up with people like him,'' Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet without referringto the case.

Rahul's statement was in reaction to the apex court's dismissal of a batch of PILs demanding a probe into the circumstances surrounding special CBI judge BH Loya's death in 2014.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud held that there was absolutely no merit in the petitions and said Loya died of natural causes.

Loya had been hearing the politically sensitive Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, in which then Gujarat home minister Amit Shah was an accused. After Loya's death, Shah was discharged and the CBI refused to file an appeal against the verdict.

Immediately after the verdict was pronounced both BJP and Congress indulged in a political mudslinging. The BJP alleged the "invisible hand" behind the pleas was of Rahul Gandhi as part of "a conspiracy to finish the political career" of the ruling party chief Amit Shah. The party also demanded an apology from the Congress president.

The Congress, on the other hand, described the verdict as a ''sad letter day'' in India's history.

Attacking the BJP for accusing Congress president Rahul Gandhi's as being the invisible hand behind the petitions seeking the probe, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala termed the allegations as a malicious attempt which showed the ruling party's jitteriness
