Former Punjab chief minister Sukhbir Badal has accused Rajiv Gandhi on Monday after senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler revealed that Rajiv Gandhi took several rounds of North Delhi with Tytler to asses riot-hit situation in 1984, and asked him to contain the riots.

Badal while demanding CBI enquiry said, "it means that the then Prime Minister was supervising the killings. CBI must look into it, very serious issue."

Jagdish Tytler was then the sitting Member of Parliament from North Delhi.

Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh called the allegations of former Punjab chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who accused Rajiv Gandhi of supervising the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, false and said, "this is not true."

In 1984, Violent riots broke out in India after Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards, leading to the Sikh massacre.

Rajiv Gandhi is regarded as a controversial leader for his alleged role in the anti-Sikh riots, he has also been criticised for his reluctance to bring the army from Meerut to handle the mob.

Rajiv Gandhi was also assassinated while campaigning for the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha Congress candidate by a woman later identified as Thenmozhi Rajaratnam.
