Police in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on Friday (July 12) registered an “attempt to murder” case against former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, two senior IPS (Indian Police Service) officers, and two retired officials.
Speaking to the news agency PTI, a police official said that the case was registered following a complaint lodged by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju. The case was booked at Nagarampalem police station in Guntur.
The charges against Reddy, others
Reddy, IPS officers PV Sunil Kumar and PSR Sitaramanjaneyulu, retired police officer R Vijay Paul and former Guntur Government General Hospital superintendent G Prabhavati were booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 120 B, 166, 167, 197, 307, 326, 465 and 506 read with 34.

Kumar is the former chief of the CID (Crime Investigation Department).
The attempt to murder case is three years old. In the complaint, TDP MLA Krishna Raju said that he was tortured by Sitaramanjaneyulu, and R Vijay Paul.
'Cops tortured me in custody'
Raju alleged that the CID police arrested him in May 2021 on charges of sedition, in the Indian city of Hyderabad, brought him to the CID office located in Guntur and used third-degree on him.

“The police officers tortured me in custody and did not follow the legal procedure. Then Government General Hospital (GGH), Guntur, Superintendent, Dr Prabhavathi gave false medical certificates,” the TDP MLA said.
“The police officers beat me up severely in custody, did not allow medicines, took my mobile phone and tortured me to tell the password,” he added.
