Speaking to the news agency PTI, a police official said that the case was registered following a complaint lodged by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju. The case was booked at Nagarampalem police station in Guntur. The charges against Reddy, others Reddy, IPS officers PV Sunil Kumar and PSR Sitaramanjaneyulu, retired police officer R Vijay Paul and former Guntur Government General Hospital superintendent G Prabhavati were booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 120 B, 166, 167, 197, 307, 326, 465 and 506 read with 34. The attempt to murder case is three years old. In the complaint, TDP MLA Krishna Raju said that he was tortured by Sitaramanjaneyulu, and R Vijay Paul. Then Government General Hospital (GGH), Guntur, Superintendent, Dr Prabhavathi gave false medical certificates,” the TDP MLA said. “The police officers beat me up severely in custody, did not allow medicines, took my mobile phone and tortured me to tell the password,” he added.
