IndiGo flight carrying 110 students from Iran has reached Delhi International Airport on early Thursday (Jun 19) under ‘Operation Sindhu’. The students were evacuated amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as tensions escalate between Israel and Iran.

The first batch of students, all from Urmia Medical University, were brought from Iran to Armenia by road and brought to Delhi via flight. The flight was delayed by three hours, NDTV reported.

As Israel and Iran trade missiles and drones for the sixth day, families of the Indian students in Iran have been seeking help from the government.

According to reports, there are over 13,000 Indian students in Iran. Most of them are pursuing medical degrees.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students' Association thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for their timely evacuation efforts amid the conflict in the Middle East.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced ‘Operation Sindhu’, which is aimed at evacuating Indian nationals from Iran.

“Operation Sindhu begins,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X, sharing images of Indian students boarding the flight to Delhi.

“India launched Operation Sindhu to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran. India evacuated 110 students from northern Iran who crossed into Armenia under the supervision of our Missions in Iran and Armenia on 17th June. They departed from Yerevan on a special flight and will arrive in New Delhi in the early hours of 19th June 2025,” he added.

“India accords the highest priority to the safety and security of her nationals abroad,” he said.
