A day after torrential rains lashed Delhi-NCR, the governmentorderedschools to remain shut on Thursday, August 1. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) hadissued a red alert forheavy rains on Wednesday in thenational capital.
The weather department has also issued an orange alert in Delhi, predicting moderate rains along with thunderstorms and lighting in the next 24 hours in many parts of the region. The rainfall activity islikely to continue till August 5 in the national capital region.

Several areas in the city got waterlogged due to the sudden downpours on Wednesday, causinglong traffic jams and inconvenience to residents. A video of waterlogging outside the new Parliament building, along with leaks in the lobby, was shared on X.

Many areas in NCR are also affected by waterlogging including Noida and Gurugram. Some schools in Gurugram have also announced a holiday for Thursday as many parts of the city are waterlogged.
Many areas in Delhi recorded over 100 mm of rainfall, according to IMD data from 8:30 am on Wednesday till 5:30 am on Thursday. Safdarjung recorded 107.6 mm of rain, Najafgarh recorded 112.5 mm, and Mayur Vihar measured 147.5 mm of rain.

The incessant rains in Delhi-NCR resulted in airlines issuing advisories for passengers as many flights were affected. At least 10 flights arriving in the national capital were diverted, while eight were rerouted to Jaipur and two to Lucknow due to severe weather conditions.
IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Uttarakhand. While heavy rain activity is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan at isolated places.
The weather department has forecastthunderstorms and lightning activity at isolated places over Northwest Indian states.
