Ex-Haryana CM ML Khattar takes oath as minister
Prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former chief minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar was sworn-in as a minister in Narendra Modi 3.0 cabinet on Sunday (June 9). He won from the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency afterdefeatingCongress's Divyanshu Budhiraja by a margin of over 200,000 votes.
Earlier, he represented the Karnal constituency in the Haryana Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2024.
Who is Manohar Lal Khattar?
Khattar's political journey commenced in 1977 as he worked full-time as a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker. He joined the BJP in 1994 and worked as General Secretary of Haryana BJP from 2000 to 2014.
Khattar first contested from the Karnal constituency in the Haryana Legislative Assembly election and was elected in 2014. On October 26, 2014, he assumed the role of Haryana CM. In 2019, he was re-elected as an MLA from the Karnal seat, again securing the CM seat, before stepping down on March 12 this year.
His resignation came amidst rumours of a rift in the coalition of BJP and Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in the state.

Khattar was fielded from Karnal Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 elections and he won with a handsome margin, reaffirming his relevance in the country's political landscape.
Khattar's early life
Khattar was born in a Punjabi Hindu family in the Nindana village of Meham tehsil in the Rohtak district.
He completed his matriculation from Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government College in Rohtak. He used to manage a store close to Sadar Bazaar in Delhi while pursuing his bachelor's degree at the University of Delhi.
