IndiGo airlines has denied reports that it has cancelled 84 flights following the grounding of 13 of its Airbus new engine option (NEO) planes due to engine trouble.
The airlines clarified that only eight of its NEO planes had been grounded and the affected passengers had been "accomodated with suitable options."
"There is misleading information being spread by a section of media on IndiGo's flight cancellations," IndiGo President Aditya Ghosh said in its statement.
"Our schedule had already been planned in the month of June on the non-availability of the aircraft for the month of July, August and September. No new flight cancellations have been made. The affected passengers have already been accommodated with suitable options," the airlines said in a statement.
Media reports said earlier in the day that Pratt and Whitney engine issues had forced IndiGo to cancel 84 flights and ground 13 A320 Neo planes.
IndiGo has faced delays in receiving planes from Airbus because of ongoing problems with engines developed by the United Technologies-owned Pratt and Whitne.
A total of 667 flights were cancelled by the IndiGo airlines between June 21 and July 3 this year. Sixty-one flights have been cancelled on June 27 alone, because of the grounding of these planes, ANI reports.
