Police in the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan arrested an individual on Monday (Sep 16) for allegedly tampering with the national flag (Tricolour) by drawing a "crescent moon and black star" on it and waving it during theEid Milad procession in Kota.
The video of the incident went viral on social media, prompting the authorities to act on the matter. Initially, three boys were detained,
“The incident took place in Anantpura during the procession. After a video of the flag went viral, we took action as per law,” said Dilip Kumar Saini, Additional SP, Kota City.

Rajasthan Education Minister and MLA from Kota’s Ramganj Mandi, Madan Dilawar directed the authorities to take strict action in the matter.
Bajrang Dal and other Hindu outfits alleged that the incident was a planned conspiracy wherein the tampered flag was handed over to the minors.Yogendra Renwal, provincial convenor of Bajrang Dal, Kota, demanded that a case be lodged against those who planned the procession, according to a PTI report.
A similar incident was reported in the Saran district of the eastern state of Bihar. Police detained two persons for allegedly carrying the Tricolor with a 'crescent moon and star' in place of the Ashoka Chakra during a procession.
"A video went viral on social media showing a tricolour with a crescent moon and star symbol at its centre in place of the Ashoka Chakra, hoisted at a vehicle during Milad-un-Nabi procession," Saran police said.
"The flag was immediately seized...All other accused will soon be arrested," the statement added.
Interestingly, the police issued a warning that anyone sharing the said video on social media would face strict action.
