India: Teen jumps to death, leaves behind 'log out note' tied to online game addiction

A 16-year-old boy from the Indian state ofMaharashtra's Pimpri-Chinchwad passed away after jumping from the 14th floor of his building, as per the police report. Initial investigations suggest that his addiction to online games may have led to this tragic incident.

The incident took placeat around 12:30 am (local time)last Friday (July 26). A case of accidental death has been filed at the Ravet police station.

The boy, who was aClass 10th student in Pune, was doing well academically. He lived with his mother in a residential society in Kiwale.

According to police, a boy in Kiwale allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 14th floor of a residential building. Initial investigations indicate that the boy had been playing an online game on his laptop.

In the boy's room, police discovered two sketches and a note. The note, titled "Log out note," included a strategy map for a multiplayer combat game. Additionally, many other sketches and maps were found in his notebook. One of the sketches showed his room and the building with "jump" marked at the balcony, the spot from which he allegedly jumped.

"The family members of the boy have informed us that he was addicted to online gaming. We have recovered his laptop also. We are yet to open it because his family members do not know the password," Swapna Gore, the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) of Pimpri Chinchwad said.

"My son was even scared of going to the balcony earlier. His behaviour changed in the past few months after he started playing online games. He used to get aggressive even if I took away his laptop. We think that there was a task in the online game in which he was supposed to jump from the building, and he did it without thinking of the consequences," the boy's mother told reporters.
