The District Disaster Management Authority in Gurugram has issued a work-from-home advisory for Tuesday (August 25), following heavy rainfall across the National Capital Region on Monday (August 24) that led to widespread waterlogging and severe traffic congestion. The advisory was issued after heavy rain affected several parts of Gurugram, raising concerns over further waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
"In view of the heavy rainfall in Gurugram on 24 August 2026, there is a possibility of waterlogging and traffic congestion at various locations across the district," said the notice issued by the deputy commissioner. The order urged corporate offices, government and private schools, and other institutions to advise their employees and staff to work from home on August 25. "The advisory will help reduce traffic congestion and facilitate smooth repair and maintenance works on roads and drains by civic agencies," the notice added further.
Heavy rain causes waterlogging across Gurugram
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Gurugram and Faridabad on Monday, warning of heavy rainfall. As conditions improved, the alert was subsequently downgraded to yellow for the Delhi-NCR region. Intense spells of rain inundated several arterial roads, residential areas and highways across Gurugram. Several locations reported ankle-to-knee-deep water, affecting traffic movement and daily commuting.
Waterlogging was reported in Sector 10 near Euro International School, South City-1, Tulip Chowk and the 60-metre road in Sector 69, Narsinghpur, Sectors 9, 14 and 45, DLF Phase 3's V Block, Ardee City towards Sector 52, Sector 52A, Sector 5 and the Airia Mall stretch on Sohna Road.

Traffic hit as roads remain waterlogged
The heavy rainfall also triggered major traffic disruptions across Gurugram, with vehicles moving slowly in several parts of the city. Traffic jams stretching up to four kilometres were reported at some locations. “Traffic teams have been deployed on site for managing vehicle movement, and assistance from local police stations has also been taken. We will take up route diversions wherever necessary,” ACP traffic (headquarters and highways) Satyapal Yadav was quoted as saying. The work-from-home advisory is aimed at reducing the number of vehicles on roads while civic agencies carry out repair, drainage and maintenance work in areas affected by the rainfall.
