Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal approached the Supreme Court against the stay imposed on his interim bail by the Delhi High Court in the money laundering case connected to the alleged excise policy scam.

Kejriwal's lawyers have appealed for a hearing on Monday morning (June 24), said AAP.

Delhi High Court on Friday (Jun 21) directed an interim stay on Rouse Avenue Court's order of granting bail to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo and is likely to pronounce its order on June 25. 

"Till the pronouncement of this order, the operation of the impugned order shall remain stayed," a vacation bench of the high court said.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) had approached the High Court against the trial court's order. 

The bench comprising Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain and Justice Ravinder Dudeja, agreed to hear the ED's challenge following an urgent mention made by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the probing agency. 

SV Raju said during the hearing that the trial court's order was completely "perverse" and was contrary to the mandate of Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Earlier this week, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court had granted bail to Kejriwal on a bail bond of ₹1,00,000 ($1,195.74).

Arvind Kejriwal's arrest 

The AAP chief was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case pertaining to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and executing the Delhi government's excise policy. 

He was released on bail for a brief period during the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections and was asked to surrender on June 2, two days before the results of the polls were announced.

During this time Kejriwal addressed several public gatherings and held campaigns for his party before going back to jail.
