According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression in the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean will turn into a deep depression in the next 24 hours.
As per the weather forecasters, the system is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall in Puducherry and Chennai from November 25 to November 27.
Wind speeds of 65 km/h to 75 km/h are likely to affect the region between November 25 and 26.

The low-pressure area in the East Equatorial Indian Ocean and the southeast Bay of Bengal has been shifting west-northwestwards, according to the IMD.
Here's what weather forecasters say
According to the weather forecasters, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall (64.5–204.5 mm) between November 25 and 27, while widespread showers are likely on November 28 and 29.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Kerala and Mahe with isolated thunderstorms from November 27 to 29.

From November 27 to 30, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam will observe isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall while Rayalaseema will receive light rain between November 27 and 28.
"Yesterday's well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining East EquatorialIndian Ocean moved west-northwestwards, intensified into a depression and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of today, the 24th November 2024 over the central part of South Bay of Bengal and adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean near latitude 5.0°N and longitude 85.3°E, about 600 km southeast of Trincomale, 880 km southeast of Nagapattinam, 980 km southeast of Puducherry and 1050 km south-southeast of Chennai,” stated the IMD on X.

The IMD on November 24 said that the low-pressure system has been experiencing maximum sustained winds of 10-15 knots with gusts up to 20 knots.
It is expected that the sea conditions over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the East Equatorial Indian Ocean will remain moderate to rough.
Strong westerly wind anomalies have been forecast by the IMD over the south Bay of Bengal and easterly wind anomalies to its north as well as over the south and central Bay of Bengal starting from November 24 to 30. The fishermen working along Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts have been issued a warning.
