BJP announces nine candidates for Sept 3 Rajya Sabha bypolls

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Indiaon Tuesday (Aug 20) announced candidates for the nine Rajya Sabha seat polls that would be held on September 3. In a post on X, the BJP released the list of itscandidates.

The BJP has fielded Union MinistersRavneet Singh Bittu from Rajasthan and George Kurian from Madhya Pradesh. The saffron party also fielded former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaderMamata Mohanta from Odisha and ex-Congress leader Kiran Choudhary from Haryana.

Both Mohanta and Choudhary had recently joined the BJP.

A look at the other BJP candidates

Manan Kumar Mishra will contest the by-polls from Bihar, Dhairyashil Patil from Maharashtra and Rajib Bhattacharjee from Tripura. From Assam, the BJPhas fielded Mission Ranjan Das and former Union Minister Rameswar Teli.

Elections will be held in September to fill up the12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats in nine states.

Ten of these seats fell vacant as the sitting members, including Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, were elected to the Lok Sabha.

Bypolls are also being held for two seats in Telangana and Odisha.
