Aam Aadmi Party rages as President forwards BJP's demand to 'dismiss' Delhi govt

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

President Droupadi Murmu has forwarded a memorandum from Bharatiya Janata Party's MLAs to the Ministry of Home Affairs, demanding the dismissal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is currently imprisoned, which is causing delay in administrative work.

AAP responded and criticised the move. Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi accused the BJP of trying to remove the Kejriwal government through backdoor.

Atishi alleged that it was a conspiracy by BJPto avert certain defeat in next year's Assembly election.

She said, "BJP has already accepted defeat in the upcoming Delhi elections. BJP's only job is to topple the elected government. BJP is afraid of CM Kejriwal," adding, "This is BJP's new conspiracy. BJP will get zero seats in Delhi elections."

Meanwhile, AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also lashed out at the BJP, declaring that his party is prepared for the elections.

"If BJP feels that it wants to lose quickly, then it should announce the date of Delhi assembly elections tomorrow itself. We are ready for the elections," Singh said.

BJP'S memorandum

The memorandum highlighted the failure of the Delhi government to constitute the 6th Delhi Finance Commission and alleged inaction on the Comptroller and Auditor General's report.

Delhi BJP leader Vijender Gupta, in a statement, said that Kejriwal’s refusal to resign after being in jail for over four months on corruption charges has caused a "paralysis of governance."

He added, "Kejriwal has refused to resign, creating an unprecedented situation that has led to a complete breakdown of governance in Delhi."

"The complaint wasn't about the current 4-month-old government but rather about the governance of the past 10 years. We need a full account of the Delhi government's performance in the last 10 years," Gupta stressed.
