Julen Lopetegui officially succeeds David Moyes at West Ham United; to officially start work on 1 July
West Ham United have announced Julen Lopetegui as their new manager as he succeeds David Moyes at the London club. The announcement comes three days after the Hammers ended their Premier League campaign onSundaywhere they finished ninth and made it to the quarterfinal of the Europa League.While the announcement was made on Thursday (May 23), Lopetegui will start work with the West Ham sideofficiallyfrom July 1.
Lopetegui opens up on West Hammove
“I feelvery happy, first of all, to be able to be part of the future of this big Club,” said Lopetegui. “We will try to put our stamp on the Club.
“I feel that we have a fantastic platform. I think the last few years have beenvery goodyears to have this base, of course, but my ambition as a coach is always to be better and better, to achieve more and bigger aims and to encourage and improve the players, the team, and to compete because football is about this – to compete. We are very ambitious about this,” the former Real Madrid boss added.
Thiswill be Lopetegui’s second job in England, havingpreviously been in charge of Wolves during the 2022-23 season. He parted ways with the Wolves before the start of the 2023-24 season in August and has been without a club since then.

He went down as one of thegreatestmanagers in the history of the East London sideleadingthem to UEFA Europa Conference League success in the 2022-23 season. He led the Hammers to one Europa League semifinal and one quarterfinal in other European runs.
Lopeteguicomes witha proven resume at West Ham, having previously managed clubs like Real Madrid and Sevilla. With the latter, he won the Europa League in 2020 but had a brief spell with Real Madrid before being sacked in 2019. He was also Spain’s managerhavingtaken charge in 2016, butwas sackedon the eve of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after announcing his intention to manage Real Madrid.
