Sophie Turner has finally opened up about the challenges of being a single mother following her high-profile divorce from Joe Jonas. The 28-year-old revealed how tough it has been for her to raise her two daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, while promoting her upcoming series Joan. The show, set in the 1980s, follows the story of a single mother and jewel thief.
“If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it,” Turner told The Sunday Times. "It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way … but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter."
Turner also stressed the importance of showing children the hard work parents do for them. She explained how filming Joan changed her during a challenging period in her life, shortly before Jonas, 35, filed for divorce in September 2023. “Joan gave me a lot of strength,” she noted, adding that the character taught her resilience and strong will.
While Turner joked about learning a “good ring swap in a handbag” from her character, she also addressed the societal pressures of motherhood. “There’s so much shame that comes with motherhood,” she said. “You go to work, you’re shamed. If you don’t go to work, you’re shamed.”

Turner and Jonas married in 2019 but ended their four-year marriage in 2023.
The ex-couple's divorce also led to a heated custody battle. Turner even sued Jonas for the return of their daughters' passports to move them back to the UK. Jonas’s representatives called the claims “misleading,” but the two eventually reached a custody agreement through mediation.
Both Turner and Jonas have moved on with their personal lives. Turner has been linked to British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson while Jonas has been seen spending time with model Stormi Bree and actress Laila Abdallah.
