Saba Qamar exclusive on her multi-layered character in Pakistani drama series Mrs and Mr Shameem
Pakistani actress Saba Qamar
Hindi Medium actress Saba Qamar is extremely proud of her role in Pakistani drama series Mrs and MrShameem, opposite actor Nouman Ijaz. The Pakistani actress plays the role of a girl named Umaina who sees many ups and downs in her life before finding balance.
Considered by many as one of the finest actresses of Pakistan, Saba has proved time and again that she is truly a one-of-a-kind performer. Now that the web show Mrs and MrShameem has premiered on Zindagi channel’s YouTube, the Pakistani actress spoke about taking up Umaina’s role as a challenge as she internalised her character’s troubles to make fiction meet reality.

On playing Umaina, Saba Qamar told WION, “Umaina is a character that has surprised me as an actor; it has length, width, and depth or whatever you want to call it. While I do relate to the character, which is as feisty as I am in real life, Umaina lives in a very different situation, she is a wild child, fearless, full of fun and vibrant.”
Mrs and MrShameem is about Saba and Nouman’s characters as their lives get intertwined after the former is left to fend for herself without any support system. Umaina is a fierce, independent girl who gets cheated on. In the course of the show, Umaina goes from being an outspoken woman to a pregnant, abandoned by her lover, vulnerable person seeking love and validation in a world which often fails to understand women.
On playing a character that is multi-layered and difficult to emote, Saba said, “Of course this role comes with a lot of work and various emotions are portrayed by her character. So I took it as nothing less than a challenge when I decided to play this role. To portray those emotions for the viewers to see what Umaina was going through in each scene was a task but the storyline is such that it all came naturally to me. I have never played anything like Umaina before. You will get to know it once you watch it. It's inspiring and at the same time talks about society, which doesn’t treat those who are different kindly.”

Saba was perfect for role, says director
Director Kashif Nisar commended Saba for bringing Umaina to life and said, “Umaina’s character cannot be easily played since there are so many emotions and feelings her character goes through, but Saba has done an excellent job in playing her role. While we were casting for the show, I knew that Saba would perfectly fit into the world of Umaina and showcase the several stages of her life journey with perfection. I am very glad that we had Saba to play the role of Umaina and cannot imagine what Mrs. & Mr. Shameem would be without her.”
