Howard University revokes Sean Combs’ honorary degree in wake of assault video

Video shows Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs physically assaulting ex-Cassie Ventura

The sexual assault charges levelled against rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has shocked themusic fraternity and fans worldwide. After avideoshowing the rapper brutally assaulting his ex girlfriend R&B singer Cassandra "Cassie" Ventura in a hotel hallway came to fore, Howard Universityrevokedthe honorary degree presented to the rapper.

Released by CNN, the video confirmed all the charges thatsinger Cassie has mentioned in the lawsuit filed against the rapper.

On June 7, Howard University's Board of Trusteesvoted unanimously to retract the honorary degree, which was conferred to Combs in 2014.

In a statement, the universityclearly stated that they are taking this action as a result of therecently released video of the rapper.

“Mr. Combs’ behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor,” the board’s statement read.

“The University is unwavering in its opposition to all acts of interpersonal violence," it further read.

The Board has also directed the University administration to immediately terminate a ''gift agreement'' with Combs, by dissolving of ascholarship program in his name.

The have also advisedto return his $1 million contribution, and terminate a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.

Sean's Assault Video

In the 2016 surveillance video released by CCN on May 20,Combs can be seen assaulting his then girlfriend Cassie in a hallway of the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.

The footage showed the rapper walking out of his room in a towel in an angry mood as he reaches the hallway, where he grabs the rapper by her neck and throws her on the ground. In the clip, he can be seen mercilessly beating her, kicking and draggingher by holding her clothes.

Combs, who has been denying the allegations, has issued an apology andacknowledgedhis violent behavior

“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you gotta do that. I was fucked up. I mean, I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses,” Combs said in a video shared on Instagram.

“My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in this video. They’re disgusting. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now. I went and I sought professional help. I’ve been going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I am truly sorry," he further said.
